    Mr. Nancy

Yesterday before work I was undecided as to what scent to wear....so I let Fate decided and blindly dipped my hand into one of my bottle boxes. I came up with the partial of Mr. Nancy I was given some time ago and had never tested. It smells so odd in the bottle...definitly lime, but with a foody/tobacco/booze background. On me. Lime and something tropical. I kept hearing the lyrics "you put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up" in my head for the first hour of wearing. Also there was a zingy element that reminded me of Bakeneko though without the cinnamon that I am allergic to. My co-workers liked it....though one said I smelled like an expensive cigar. I THINK that was a compliment!.... Mr. Nancy gradually settled into a dark foody/sugar-rum with a hint of tobacco mix. I didn't put all that much on, but the throw was pretty intense (according to co-workers' reactions) and it lasted the 10 hours I was at work (through multiple hand washings...) I really like this one, but don't know if I'd wear it enough to justify a bottle at this point. It most certainly DOES fit the character to a "T"!

    Blue Moon 2007

Oh Pretty!!!! Just got some from a decant circle.....just in time to order a big bottle before it comes down for the second time! Cucumber and florals backed by light woods. Very cucumbery while wet but drying into sweet, mellow florals backed by the cucumber and woods. I can understand the "blue/aquatic" feel people are getting from this. Makes me think of lying on the bank of a little forest brook beside a field full of wild flowers while eating cucumber sandwiches. Glad I got to try it in time to still order a big bottle!!!

    Pink Moon 2007

Got my bottle from an online sale last night and decided to wear it to work. A good choice!! I adore carnations! And this is all sugary carnation (can't smell the phlox). It lasts and lasts through multiple hand washings (I have to wash my hands a lot at my job). The throw is good. My co-workers all gave this one enthusiastic thumbs up. Yup! This is my new happy time/silly mood scent! Yay!

    Schwarzer Mond

I can see why people compare Minotaur to this. They are both deep, deep resin scents....with musk and amber added for warmth. However, for me there are very distinct differences. Minotaur is golden glowing resin with a sweetness and light that SM doesn't have. Schwarzer Mond is dark, dark, dark....musty and musky and mysterious! The patchouli and myrrh are what I notice most. The patchouli is like none I've smelled before, except maybe the Essential oil bottle I've had for twelve years now. This is thick, complex and in NO WAY "dirty hippy"!!! The myrrh gives a sharp woody bite to pull this out of patchouli darkness. The amber and musk warm things up a bit A very lovely scent if you like resins. I definitly get a more masculine feel from this one than Minotaur. I could see wearing Minotaur while a mysterious, swarthy man in black accompanies me on a date while wearing SM. Mmmmmm, that would be a nice combination.....

    Minotaur

Oooooo!!!!! The first time I tried this (thanks to the lovely fountaingirl frimping me a sample!) my body chemistry was wonky and it was a bit too sharp (was craving the Candy Butcher right then, if that tells you anything...twas a PMS time....LOL!) But NOW?? Pure resin LOVE/LUST!!!!!! Oooo, this is so good I can bearly even type to TELL you how good it is! The musk gives a warm base, but its the blend of sharp, sexy resins that bowl me over and make my eyelids flutter! I can see how a person who's skin eats scent might get baby powder out of this, as it DOES have a softness to it, but as someone who burns pure resin incense regularly.....woah! I love it....LOVE it! Happily I have hit the decant left-over sales and will end up with a full (if thrown together from a few different decants) bottle of this. YAY!!!! This will age so well!!!! It'll be one of those "hide your bottle, or your friends will steal it"! scents!!! ADDED Oct. 19: WHAT!? I've not reviewed Minotaur yet?!!!!!!! This is my all time uber favorite, holy grail, go-to, must have scent!!! The resins are sexy, swarthy, and yet-sweet. The copal mixing with the black musk utterly slays me! It never really morphs much on me except to deepen and darken slightly. Throw is a perfect medium.....not excessive, but not "omg, must get down to the wrist to smell". And weartime?......ages! I feel spiritual (copal and frankincense type incenses always lift me up that way) and yet completely feral and sexy (mmmmmm......musk!) Perfect! Want more!!!!!! ARgh....I Have reviewed this one! my icon, for some reason is messing up so I didn't see my previous post..... Help mods.....how do I delete this review???

    Thirteen (13): April 2007

I'm a 13 junkie, yes I AM!!! I have a big bottle of white label (Brach's chocolate orange sticks with a floral chaser), one and one-half bottle (its a half bottle because I just HAD to enable a few folk!) of orange label 10/06(chocolate, floral fantasticness!!!), and now a bottle of purple label 4/07. The new 13 is as different from the other 13s as they are from each other....and yet similiar in that it retains the base notes of chocolate and orange. In the bottle and on wet this smells just like that tea/tang mix that my mother made when I was growing up!!! Very spicy (the cardamom and clove) and the orange......very , very yummy and nostalgic for me. Drying down this gets sweeter and sweeter with the chocolate note coming out. Still spicy and herby....A hint of the catnip....if that is what that elusive minty note is.....my cats are unimpressed, but I'm in love with this scent! And the fig comes out more and more on the dry down....yummy! Oh, and as there is commentary on the consistency of oil....mine is clear with flecks of cocoa absolute in it. This is most likely another fall/winter scent for me.....with the nostalgic factor of it smelling almost exactly like that tea!!!

    Banded Sea Snake (2006)

Num, num, num!!!! I love BPAL mosses! and I love Snake Oil! The "green", deep scent of moss and olive leaf with the sweet vanilla of Snake Oil to ground it. Oh, yumminess! The dry down on me smells much the same as the wet...only milder. It does smell slightly masculine. If you love sweet scents on your guy (or if you ARE a guy who likes the sweeter masculine scents) you'll probably LOVE this!

    The Haunted Palace

Oh, this is lovely! In the bottle and on wet I smell three notes...amber (which always amps and lasts on me), rose, and blood orange. Dry--the rose comes out more but the orange and the amber really sweeten it, so it doesn't turn dusty or soapy at all. As this fades it turns to sweet amber on me. All scents with amber in them get to the mostly amber stage on my skin, but this retains a hint of the sweet orange and the floral rose. Very very nice! Never really caught the other notes....though the gardenia and vanilla might have helped sweeten the rose as well. No hint of the musk at all. **Edit**I do eventually smell the musk, but it is very faint....more like a warm base for the other notes rather than a big player in this scent's character list.

    Antique Lace

Icecreamy vanilla! with a titch of perfume background (possibly the linen scent?) Very pretty! Very evocative of the name/description. This is safe and innocent vanilla whereas Snake Oil is sharp, sinuous and evil vanilla. A nice contrast! Drydown smells pretty much like wet and lasts a good long time.....throw is moderate.

    Jailbait

In the imp and on wet this is fantastic bazooka joe bubblegum!!! (sigh....love it!) There IS an unfortunate 1/2 hour on dry down where the cinnamon/cardamom type essence comes out and gives me a bit of an allergic reaction, but then that fades and I'm left with a slightly sweet womany perfume. How I wish it stayed with the initial bubblegum!! I'll keep the imp, but daydream of a similiar scent that stays pure bubblegum....sigh.....

    O

In the imp this smells like dirty sweatsocks to me. Which is why I took so long to get an imp of my own (first smelled it from a friend's collection), but I learned that in the imp smell and on the skin smell are two different things (Bilquis taught me this....in imp....straight-ugh-almond. On skin....gorgeous!). On me.....this one is a morpher to be sure! On Wet....definately getting a bit of the sharp Snake Oil vanilla scent with something sweeter on top. On Drying...yes, honey comes to play with Snake oil. On Dry.....Karma Sutra honey dust! Swear to GODDESS it smells JUST like it! Incensy honey powder! And since this has amber in it I'm sure it will gradually fade out to a lovely amber leftover....which is what every scent that even has even a smidge of amber in it does on me (not that I mind, amber is one of my favorite notes ever). Not sure if I need a big bottle (I've got enough of various types and this isn't "OMG WOW!" enough to make me go running to order another, but who knows....I'll keep the imp and test often....if I reach a point where I'm wearing it a great deal I'll order big.

    Monster Bait: Underpants

What an odd little scent! Its so light on it almost disappears. But then I find a vanilla/cream/sugar/rum/dusty/warm waft of scent rising from nowhere (wore it to work last night and it wafted for about 5 hours before vanishing....but then, I have to wash my hands/wrists frequently at work)...when I sniff my wrist I have to get right to the skin to smell it....but it DOES waft (a really, really weird thing....one usually thinks of "wafting" scents as being MUCH easier to smell close to the skin)! There is an exotic/dusty smell that I think is the saffron. I'm thinking this'll be a special occasion/scent locket scent since I really have to slather to get good effect. I agree with the above poster who said it was like orange label 13 (ah, 13, one of my favorites in white OR orange dress!) a scent with foody elements that isn't really foody at all when it comes right down to it. Verdict?....I like it alot! Not enough to track down more bottles (it just doesn't have enough "OMPH!"), but I'm glad I did find a good deal on a mostly full bottle. *Edit...the more I sniff myself, the more I like this....however, let me reiterate that its a GOOD thing its such a light scent....makes me less likely to sell my soul to buy more!!!

    Boomslang

Snake Oil with cocoa, teakwood, and rice milk. Chocolate Snake Oil! In the imp its got a lot of chocolate....on....chocolate for the first few minutes rapidly fading to Snake Oil with a hint of cocoa. I might take the above commenter's advice and layer with The Candy Butcher, which is my to-die-for chocolate scent.

    Euterpe

Ugh! The honeysuckle turns this immediately to soap on me. And after THAT mellows the lemon makes it smell like hairspray. Darn it! I wish the carnation and iris were more potent! I'll try this one again just to be sure, but I'm thinking its a no go.

    The Isles of Demons

Not quite sure how I feel about this one yet. This sticks extremely close to my skin....almost NO throw. I get kind of a sweet, green scent with an ozone overlay. Ick! Its turning into toilet bowl cleaner! Nope, not for me!!

    Khajuraho

... This is a blissful, euphoric blend based on an ancient Indian love potion: honey, date palm, tuberose, davana blossom, amber, white sandalwood, vanilla bean, Damask rose, and champaca flower. Mmmmmm, very incensy! The champaca flower is very strong on my skin, and sweetened by the honey. Sandalwood and vanilla bean warm and ground this a bit, which is good otherwise it would be too light on me. The other flowers are there, but very much in the background, though I do catch the rose swirling around in the mix. This is VERY much an "India" scent to me. Probably because of the champaca. I keep thinking of all the incense stores I've been in.....but this smells like expensive incense, not cheap. The throw isn't much. It stays pretty close to my skin. Wish I had a bottle of this!!

Mmmmmm.....Brach's chocolate orange sticks!! and a hint of a floral! Very different from the oct 06 version but just as yummy in a different way! And it lasts forever on me....with little change from first application except to get a bit softer. Managed to track down a bottle of this as well Now....I just need to try the 07 version! Ha!

    Haunted

I'm in love with this! Amber and musk are two of my favorite scents. On wet this DOES have a citrusy POW! but that fades very quickly on me and the amber dominates. It is kept from going too soft (like The Lion does on me) by the deep base of musk. The two notes then balance each other as they dry down. I used to have a Garden Botanika oil blend of amber musk and loved it so much I used it up! This is very similiar. Glad its a GC oil, for I'm sure I'll be getting a big bottle in the future.

    Loviatar

A frimp in a swap I did.... In the imp sharp leather, myrrh and violet. On wet....the leather is the main note, but the myrrh and the violet are also sharply present. I'm almost headachy with the "wet" stage. On dry down....Oh, THANK you AMBER!!! My best friend amber has now come to play and turned this into a glowing warm, leather scent with a pale floral background. Verdict....I like! Not one I need a bottle of, but I definitly see potential for using up the imp!

    The Candy Butcher 2006

I don't know why everyone is getting florals from this. In the imp, on me wet, on me dry and several hours later...this is exactly as described. Rich, dark chocolate and a kind of clotted, thick cream. Perfect for my PMS needs!! I've tried my imp on twice in a row and its the same...had to go order a big bottle!!! I like Bliss, but its powdery and wan compared to The Candy Butcher on my skin. **love this one! Definitly up in my top ten. Have a lab fresh bottle AND bought another bottle from a friend...

    Glasya

I got this because all of the notes are ones I like and I've been looking for more musky scents besides Smut and Fenris Wolf. On my skin this amps rose like nothing else!!! Good thing I like rose! Its a warm rose to be sure, but I was really hoping the musk, dragon's blood and patchouli would dominate. Its strong and seems like it will last well. I'll keep it for the nonce in hopes it drys down better, but the rose is SOOOOO overpowering on me!

    Snake Oil

Hmmmm....thought I'd reviewed this before now! Let me just say, while Snake Oil is not always my #1 swoon scent, it IS the scent I end up applying when I'm not sure how I feel and I just want to smell good! Its got a sharp spice/vanilla to it that I didn't think I'd like. The spice was too sharp....too odd. But the more I tried it, the more it grew on me until I was forced to buy a big bottle. I love Smut, but sometimes it is just too heavy....so Snake Oil it is! I don't know why I like it so much, but I do! I can see why some people smell plastic. Its hard for me do truly describe Snake Oil. It reminds me of snakes, actually. A sharp bite and a warm slithery undertone. Can't wait to try the Pit!! ETA.....aged....two years or more ...Snake Oil becomes a patchouli/ vanilla heavenly scent. If you find it too medicinal or sharp fresh toss i in a dark box and forget about it for three or more years

    Bilquis

In the imp....ALMOND! Ugh. Almond and I do not get along. Happily and almost immediately on my skin the almond vanishes and I'm hit with an amazing blend of all the other notes! I definitly smell the florals with rose being prominent, but they are equally balanced by the musk, honey and apple. And it throws and lasts very, very well! This is an ultra feminine scent. Warm, floral and yummy. Very heady and sexual. I'm not quite convinced I need a full bottle yet (and I still have Mr. Ibis and Spider to try before I do my bottle purchase donation to the comic book fund), but Bilquis is definitly a lovely scent. BTW....had to go start reading American Gods again after applying....anyone else motivated by the Carousel to start a Gaiman reading fest??LOL! LOL! Had almost the same reaction! I haven't tried O on my skin yet (wasn't impressed when I sniffed a friend's imp), but Brisingamen is one of my absolute favorites and Les Bijoux is lovely as well (just bought a bottle for a co-worker's girlfriend because he liked it on me so much...LOL!)

    Thirteen (13): October 2006

Got a decant on a whim from the LJ forum....oh....wish this was a whole bottle!!! Yummy! Chocolate and orange with the florals and woods keeping it from being boring. Mostly chocolate and bright orange at first, but on the drydown I can smell the florals. They are soft and comforting. And my best friend, amber, is definitly lurking in the back letting me know that this scent will continue to mellow well (amber always does on me). Darn it! How am I going to find a bottle? *Edit* Got TWO bottles!!! Yay! And this is a scent that gets noticed and admired!

    Black Rose

Dark, heady rose in the imp. On wet--roses with a deep musky background Dry Down--Musk and amber with a faint whiff of rose. I love musk and amber and I love rose....but this wasn't spectacular enough to warrent a big bottle for me....the rose pooped out too soon and I have other musk/amber scents that I'm more partial to. I'll keep the imp though.
