  1. Asking for rec.s for my husband! His favorites are Troll and Loup Garou so far. He likes the, and I quote "Raaaarg" scents, and they seem to work on him. These scents are so off my beaten path (and he smells terrible in my "masculines" like Golden Priapus, which is just pink plastic on him) that I have no idea what else we might try. Anybody with thoughts?

He may enjoy Fighter, Malediction (which is very earthy and smoky), Rumpelstilzchen, Old Demons of the First Class, Djinn and even Jabberwocky since he likes Loup Garou.

  2. *This may* have been requested already; I just skimmed the last few posts because my dragons are fussy.*

I am a HUGE fan of the show Penny Dreadful, more specifically Vanessa Ives. Can anyone recommend a scent that would encapsulate the essence of Ms. Ives? I would also love to hear of any scent recommendations on the main cast as well (Sir Malcolm, The Creature, Mr. Chandler, etc).

    Mage~

Penny Dreadful is one of my favorite shows ever and for miss Vanessa I see just Penny Dreadful from the GC or I see her wearing Horror Sympathique. That's just what I vision in my head at least. I have always thought about what The Creature would wear and I think I see A Blot Upon The Earth from the Yule 2011 Frankenstein series.

  3. #83

In the bottle- Clean, soapy and like aftershave but it's more feminine if that makes any sense and I do believe there is a floral in here but I can't distinguish which one it is at the moment.

Wet on the skin- Still clean but it's definitely way more floral now and I think it may be carnation, marigold...........

Dry- Still very floral but now I do believe grey musk or grey amber is coming forth with vanilla and I think the floral note I am smelling may be lotus.

Out of all the ones I received this one has to be the best in my opinion so I think I will hold onto it. It's pretty but not stuffy. (:

  4. #66

In the bottle- Ground up dark cocoa with something nutty and vaguely citrus-y.

Wet on the skin- Something foul like bitter sour nuts or fruit. The nut aspect may be brazil nuts and I swear I am picking up persimmon, I can't be too sure.

Dry- Even more foul! The rotting nut aspect is even stronger and with the cocoa note it's not a good combination at all.

  5. I am the worst person at picking out notes but I will give it my best shot.

In the bottle this smells like straight up mint with citrus, maybe orange or maybe lemon. When I inhale deep enough the citrus component overtakes it. My Mother smelled this one and said that it smells like Doublemint Spearmint gum and I actually agree.

Wet on the skin the citrus note definitely comes out more and it actually verges on smelling a little tart, it's not bad but not what I was expecting for a Woods scent.

Dry on the skin it turns to smelling like menthol, a hint of cedar and a bit of eucalyptus but the tartness from the citrus is still lingering.

This was not what I expected and I wish I would of gotten more earthy notes but for what it is I actually do think it's nice and refreshing. Win! :)

EDIT: Okay now it smells like plastic and suntan lotion with menthol. I don't know about it now! These are so odd but yet you can't stop smelling them!

  6. There are these two I can think of right off the top of my head that aren't too masculine or medicinal.

Against Idleness and Mischief- Pollen-dusted honey, diligent tonka, steadfast chamomile, and goodly hyssop.

Veritas- The essence of honesty, integrity, and veracity: frankincense, white carnation, angelica, chamomile, and heliotrope.

I hope you find what you are looking for and welcome to the forum (:

  7. This HG makes me smile so much!

Sultry red musk, warm vanilla, smoky amber and sweet rum (almost like the rum in Ian but more feminine)

It's just a sexy scent and there is no other way to describe it honestly. The first thing that I can see in my mind is a raven or red haired Pirate Queen and her hair smelling like this. I know my brain is thinking this because of the gunpowder and the rum but it's a accuracy in my own mind. It's stunning and I think I will get good use out of it all year round.

  8. Just gorgeous!

This smells so sophisticated but not stuffy in the least. It's slightly sweet from the fig and vanilla orchid and the amber gives it a golden vibe that isn't too powdery. It turns into a soft white floral the longer it sits on my hair and honestly I can't quit grabbing the ends of my hair and inhaling constantly. I can't describe this any other way besides screaming elegant and womanly. The first thing that popped into my mind was "I can see Keira Knightley's character in Pride and Prejudice smelling like this........ Or well her lovely locks anyway"

I think it pairs beautifully with scents like Venus Erycina which is what I wore when I tested it but I think it would pair well with other white florals, oriental florals and even sweet scents that aren't too on the foodie side. :wub2:

  9. Thank you to my wonderful Fairy for picking this up for me because it is absolutely beautiful!

I have kept spraying this on my hair all day. I cannot get enough of it. It is indeed sweeter than most leather blends I have smelled. Truthfully, I can't really handle the leather in Eldritch Dark in my hair because mixed with the red musk it's very headache inducing during this warmer weather....... But this is magnificent! It's probably the softest leather I have come across. When I first spray it I get a blast of bourbon vanilla and ambergris and that does give it a saltiness like Lycanthrope mentions. The longer it sits the more the leather comes out but like I said earlier it's a sweeter leather, but nowhere near the lines of overbearingly sweet. Now that I think of it.... it gives off Jareth/Dorian vibes when the wind catches my hair and I can smell it. I think it would layer well with those blends and tons more. It's definitely a refined scent and not super abrasive.

I am inlove with it! It is a masterpiece

  10. This really is unsettling! Guess it makes a ton of sense for a Plague XD

I agree with TTP in saying I get a hint of a plastic hose type of vibe when it first goes on. The smell is quite nausea inducing but I decided to let it blossom and dry hoping it would change..... But the unsettling smell didn't fade. When it fully dried it smells indeed like something with raisins and sweat. It's sour and just really funky.

This is definitely not a winner!

  11. I was most excited about this one and sadly it just doesn't do it for me.

I love my aquatic blends and this is super aquatic when it's wet and I like that but it soon takes a huge shift and goes super soapy and when I inhale deep enough I swear I am smelling a weird fruity quality. The soapy element is INTENSE and I don't mind super clean scents in the least bit but with a name like this I expected something a little bit darker.

A part of me wants to put it up for sale and then the other part wants me to keep it for a few weeks to see if it changes at all.

  12. Not once did I get the plastic phase and I am so thankful for that.

This blend is just beautiful. A true vanilla sandalwood from wet to dry. The cedar vaguely comes out to make a short appearance but it in no way turns to hamster cage or pencil shavings. I think this is the first cedar dominant blend I own that doesn't overwhelm or turn bad. I just wish the entire scent was a little bit stronger. I can only smell it when I put my nose right to my wrist. A keeper nonetheless (:

  13. I love this one way more than Mare Nectaris, personally.

The apricot and citrus combo is just divine. I get a ton more apricot on the wet stage and then the peach comes out on the dry stage. I get no geranium and no cardamom at all and that's just fine by me. Like everyone else has said, this is beautiful and cheerful and will be soooo good for the upcoming summer. I like this very much.

  14. Strong rosewater in the decant and nothing else.

When it's on though the rosewater tames itself and the cherries come forth and they smell syrupy like everyone else is mentioning. I can still smell the sharpness of the rosewater though buried underneath it all. Cherry tends to go fake or plastic on me and thankfully in this it does not. A slight powdery creaminess is coming through when it transfers into the dry down which is the orris but it isn't overwhelming. The bourbon is there but it doesn't take over like I thought it would. When it's fully dry it does smell like a rose dessert but not a super sweet one. This is nice but a decant is all I need.

  15. How are you liking Creeper Dragon since you were able to get a bottle. Was it one your fiancé picked out for you? What were all the ones she got from the Lupers? A ton of them have been huge winners this time around. One of them that was a surprise hit for me just so happens to be Venus Verticordia :thud: Just beautiful!

I can chime in about Mars Rigonemetis. It's a masculine scent to my nose but not overpowering knock you over masculine. A earthy, green masculine scent. I love forest-y type blends myself but this smells like a forest and a bit of cologne. Not one scent tends to overpower the other one.

I can put in a bit of feedback about Mary Shelley. I love licorice/anise type notes in fragrances now and I didn't when I first started my BPAL journey and to me the licorice vibe is very subtle. It almost has the same spice notes I find in Red Lantern and I think it adds a richness and a mysteriousness to the overall feel of it. It smells like one would imagine Mary Shelley herself sitting in a study writing her latest masterpiece and there is a lightning storm outside the windows and she is drinking a cup of black tea. It's magical!

  16. Lemongrass is my foe and I keep being mean to myself and trying blends with it in it just HOPING that maybe something will work.

This was one of those cases. I was hoping every other note would take over and leave the lemongrass as a subtle note, nope! Wet on me it was all lemongrass and a faint sweetness and I just couldn't even handle it. Dry a little of the carnation came forth and gave it a spiciness but it didn't change it enough. Not for me at all

I think I have finally learned my lesson.

  17. This is really beautiful.

I adore honeysuckle and this doesn't disappoint with the amount of it. It is the sweeter flower that I know and love with a nice dose of a effervescent vibe. It does indeed smell a little "shimmery" and very classic. The gardenia in this isn't sharp or unpleasant in the least bit, it smells quite subtle on me and I actually am not getting any of the red patchouli, but I am getting red amber on the full dry down. I agree with zankoku in the fact that It smells womanly in a perfume-y way but I actually like that about it. I feel I would wear this when I got really dressed up or put myself in a full Victorian outfit.

I must point out that this smells like a more perfume-y version of Delicate Ambrosial Dews of Heavenly Nectar, at least to my nose. Amazing!

  18. I really liked the beginning stages of this one. Lovely sandalwood and fresh pine needles and I thought it was going to stay that way for a while, nope. It soon turned into something that I knew I recognized and couldn't quite put my finger on but I immediately did not like it. Then as it fully dried it finally hit me....... It smells like Gacela of the Dark Death but just not as harsh. I did not like Gacela because it was just too intense on my skin and I don't like this either. This is going into the sale pile.

  19. This is straight up tobacco and black tea on me from start to finish and you know what, I like it. I love anise type notes in my fragrances lately and I am a sucker for all things tobacco. I am not quite sure it needs to be upgraded to a big bottle but I will enjoy my decant.

  20. This is a very to the point scent for me. Not overly complicated

Sweet, smoky, touch fruity and very delicious. The apricot is incredibly strong and the red musk makes it smell super deep. Like a sophisticated and more adult fruity scent. I hardly get any clove at all and I very faintly get vetiver except on the dry down mostly and that's what gives it the smoky feel. It does fade a little quickly on me as well but I still am kind of liking it.
