    Lightning

In the imp: This smells like this chill in the air before a storm over the ocean. I can't really describe it any other way & it's incredible that they managed to capture this scent! Wet on skin: The chill is gone, but the ocean & impending storm are still there. Not quite as ethereal-feeling as in the imp, but still amazing & evocative! Dry on skin: A soapy version of how it smelled wet. After a few hours: A little faded & slightly less soapy, buy about the same as dry. Verdict: Absolutely stunning at first, but the soapiness makes it smell less like a perfume & more like a laundry detergent. It's still nice, but not something I'd wear. I'd love to try this in a scent locket though!

    Olokun

In the imp: ocean & linen! So weird, yet so lovely! Wet on skin: Same as in the imp, except slightly stronger. Clean & fresh, like sticking your nose into a pile of laundry straight out of the dryer, only nicer! Dry on skin: More subtle now, like freshly washed linen drying in an ocean breeze. After a few hours: About the same as dry, only more subtle. Not as fresh-smelling, but still nice. Verdict: One of those "I never knew I wanted to smell like this" scents! Weird, yet very wearable!

    Elf

In the bottle: This is so well blended that it's actually really hard for me to pick out the individual notes! It smells like a clearing in a magical forest, but with no dominating "wood" scent (this is good for me, because most woods quickly turn to antiseptic on me!). Somewhere that elves would live, for sure! Wet on skin: Different, but still so well blended that I can't really tell what's changed! It's warmer, slightly muskier, sweeter (the honeycomb & florals?), juicier (the berries?), richer & more solid. More like an actual elf up close now, rather than the forest where they live. Dry on skin: Different again, but so gorgeous! Musky, sweet & woodsy, yet still somehow ethereal & light! Exactly what a Wood Elf should smell like! After a few hours: A dusty (almost smells like sandalwood), golden, honeycomb-scented musk. Lighter than before, but so very pretty! Definitely Elf-like! Verdict: This is one of my absolute favourite scents! I love it so much! It's gorgeous layered with "Good" as well - I need to experiment with other layers soon!

    The Ghost Children

In the bottle: I can't pick out any individual notes, but this fits the description quite well. Although I think it smells more like the perfume of an adult female ghost, rather than ghost children, it is most definitely a ghost perfume! Wet on skin: Slightly more "solid" feeling, but still very ghostly. Dry on skin: Like the lady of the house's room in an old, long-abandoned, haunted mansion. Dusty lace, faint antique perfume, dry (floral scented) soap, snuffed candles, old potpourri. Mysterious & ghostly! After a few hours: This has faded a lot, which really adds to the ghostly feel of it! There's only a hint of it now, like a ghost (still the ghost of a woman, not a child) has just floated past you. Very cool! Verdict: It's not the kind of scent I'd wear on a daily basis, but I'm sure I'll get a fair bit of use out of it! This perfume is REALLY pretty & very evocative!

    June 23, 1868

In the bottle: This smells like a vampire's garden, that's the only way I can describe it! Like a stone courtyard at night with wrought-iron gates, overgrown with weeds & various night-blooming flowers, outside a vampire's mansion. It's cold & dark & eerie & yet SO beautiful! Wet on skin: Almost exactly the same as wet, only slightly less cold & stone. Dry on skin: The flowers & "cold night" feeling have faded & the weedy smell has come out more. Like the same garden, only just after sunset or just before dawn. Not as pretty, but still really interesting. After a few hours: Somewhere in between how it smells wet & how it smells dry. Not as amazing as in the bottle, but really pretty & mysterious! Sort of a vintage floral - ever so slightly soapy, but not in a bad way. "Sepia toned" for sure! Verdict: I really want to try this in a scent locket, but even without one I'm really glad I decided to buy this! It's such a lovely scent! Not something I'd wear during the day though, this is a more ethereal floral, ideal for wearing at night!

    Aeval

In the imp: The sweet pea is a little hard to sniff out, but otherwise this is as described. Very pretty. Wet on skin: Slightly-sagey musk. Dry on skin: I wish the sweet pea note was a little stronger (it's almost not even there), but this is still lovely! Like a warmer, deeper version of how it smelled in the imp. After a few hours: It's blended together better & has faded quite a bit (musk is still the main note), but this is still really pretty. A sweet, herbally-floral musk. Verdict: A good perfume for when I don't want anything too strong, but still want to smell nice.

    Titania

In the imp: Exactly as described. This does indeed smell like a fairy perfume worthy of its namesake! Absolutely stunning! Wet on skin: Not as light & sparkly as in the imp. More musky. Dry on skin: Light, beautiful flowers, fresh fruits & something I can only describe as "fairy magic"! This is GORGEOUS! After a few hours: Much muskier than when it first dried, but still SO pretty! Verdict: This is one of my absolute favourite BPAL perfumes, especially for Spring & Summer! I really need to get a bottle of this!

    The Lights of Men's Lives

In the imp: Exactly as described - lots of waxy, smoky, lit candles with a really creepy overtone to it. Strange, but very cool! Wet on skin: Beeswax. An almost sickeningly sweet & smooth beeswax. I normally love the smell of real beeswax, but there's something old & creepy about this beeswax! Dry on skin: The beeswax still smells old & dusty, but much more realistic (& nicer) now. There's a hint of smoke too - like a whole lot of candles were extinguished at once & the room was allowed to air out a bit. After a few hours: Same as dry, maybe slightly more faded. Verdict: I don't think I'll get a huge amount of use out of this one (the imp is probably enough for me - for now at least), but I quite like it!

    Scarecrow

In the imp: I don't know how they do this, but this perfume does indeed smell just like the description! I can pick out a few individual notes that smell familiar to me, but I can't quite identify them. Wet on skin: Similar, but one of the familiar notes is now standing out a lot more. It has sort of a savoury-food feel to it now. Dry on skin: Savoury-ish cooking spices? I'm not sure what I'm smelling right now, but I'm not loving it! After a few hours: It's almost completely gone. I have to sniff really closely & I'm still hardly finding anything. Verdict: I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this. Normally I love the really evocative notes - even if they go bad on my skin, I like keeping the imps around to sniff occasionally just for fun, but I don't think I'll be keeping this one.

    Night's Bridge

In the imp: EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED! Just like being alone on a stone bridge at midnight. How do they do this??? Wet on skin: Completely different now, but with a similar feel. More like salt water at night, but the bridge or other stone buildings are nearby. Dry on skin: Changed again - warm, wet & dirty stone. Weird, but not unpleasant. After a few hours: Warm stone in the afternoon caked with dried sea salt &... creamy vanilla? Again, REALLY weird but not unpleasant. Verdict: I can't make up my mind about this one, it's doing all sorts of strange things on my skin! I think I need to test it again another day. It would be interesting to see how it works in a scent locket too.

    Aziraphale

In the imp: Dusty, musky woods, with a hint of old books. Wet on skin: Similar, but less dusty. More "wet" smelling (the only way I can describe it really!). More like a sapling than dry wood. Dry on skin: A light, mysterious Sandalwoody-musk with just a hint of dusty old books! I like it! After a few hours: About the same as dry, only more faded. Kind of like being in a library, actually! Verdict: This is a very gentle & subtle perfume (I can only smell it when I get close). It's just unusual enough to be interesting, while still being neutral enough to wear in situations where you need to be/feel serious.

    The Sea Foams Milk

In the imp: Milk. And. Ocean. What? How do they DO that??? Wet on skin: Same. So bizarre & yet... I love it! Dry on skin: Both notes are still there, but the effect is less "surrounded by ocean & milk" & more "outdoors, at a cafe near the beach, with a milky dessert" (like an unflavoured milkshake, unflavoured icecream or something covered completely in cream). Very weird & yet I still really like it! After a few hours: I'm not even sure how to describe this now, but it smells strangely... dry? Almost like sandalwood. Otherwise, pretty similar to how it was after it had just dried on my skin. Milky & salty & almost driftwood-ish. Verdict: Weird, but I kind of like it! I'd probably use it more in a scent locket though.

    Y'ha-nthlei

In the imp: Exactly as described. I don't even know what to make of this, but WOW it smells interesting! Chilly (in a cold-water sense, not just cold air) & frothy. Very evocative! Wet on skin: Less chilly & frothy (though both of those effects are still there), but otherwise unchanged. Dry on skin: The water has gotten murky now. Not awful, but certainly not as nice or exciting as it was wet or in the imp! After a few hours: Weird. My husband says this smells like a handsoap. It doesn't smell soapy to me, but the fake-smelling scents they add to cheap handsoaps? Yeah, it smells like those. It makes me think of a "marine" or "aquatic" inspired cheap handsoap/cleaner/air-freshener/etc. Verdict: This failed miserably on my skin, but it's SO exciting in the imp! Another for the "someday when I get a scent locket" pile!

    Mag Mell

In the imp: This smells BRIGHT & clean, but not soapy. Earthy, herb-y & grassy, but not dirty or murky. It smells like the colours white, yellow & light green should smell. The smell of the afterlife? Could be! This is most definitely not somewhere on earth! Wet on skin: Almost exactly the same, except it's slightly grounded by the amber. Dry on skin: Warmer, sweeter, softer. Not as stark, bright or clean as before, but more gentle & heaven-like. I think ginger is a very good note on me, because there's a really nice note in here that I don't normally associate with real ginger, but I smelled it in another BPAL ginger perfume too. After a few hours: That really nice note-that-doesn't-actually-smell-like-ginger-but-is-probably-BPAL-ginger is now the main note & it's making this smell so very pretty! Verdict: The end result of this is SO very different to how it starts, but all variations of this perfume are gorgeous! I think this one may become a favourite!

    Ave Maria Gratia Plena

In the imp: Woodsy, soft, warm & earthy. I can pick out the sage, sandalwood & lemon peel, but the rest is really well blended. I'm a bit worried that this might be too woodsy for me! Wet on skin: I have no idea what's going on, but this just went really strange & not in a good way. Orris & sandalwood maybe? Dry on skin: Oooooohhhh! That's WAY nicer than wet & in the imp! Soft, delicate rosewood-musk mostly, with hints of all the other notes in the background - JUST enough to give this a really beautiful effect! You can really only pick them out if you're actually trying to find them. After a few hours: Much more faded & the sandalwood is a little more noticeable, but otherwise about the same as dry. Verdict: This is really lovely! It definitely suits the inspiration! Jasmine normally amps on me (I love jasmine, so I don't mind), so it was weird that I could barely smell any in this!

    Wings of Azrael

Azrael is the Angel of Death, marked as the last being to die in the Apocalypse. Though a harbinger of doom, his duties are an act of mercy: he curtails human life before world-weariness and despair destroys our spirits. Warm myrrh swirled with a bittersweet blend of violet, Lily of the Valley, juniper, cypess and cajeput. In the imp: Notes are exactly as described. This is a holy, comforting floral & yet not comforting in a warm way - it's almost cold & stern. Exactly what I would expect the merciful Angel of Death to smell like! Wet on skin: The myrrh & florals are leading this, but I'm a little worried about what the juniper is doing! Juniper-scents haven't worked on me in the past, but there's always been something else in them that didn't like me, so I don't know if juniper is actually the culprit. Dry on skin: I'm not sure what's happening here... I think I like it? Not as nice as in the imp, but not unpleasant. After a few hours: Not as nice as in the imp but still quite a nice scent, a bit strange though. Most woods tend to turn into antiseptic on my skin & this hasn't, so I like that about it, but the woods still went a bit strange. It's a very woody-violet scent - VERY different from the scent in the imp! Verdict: I like this, but I don't know how often I'd wear it on my skin. I'd love to test it with a scent locket someday though!

    Cleric

In the imp: I don't know what most of these notes actually smell like on their own, but this is definitely how I would imagine a Cleric in D&D to smell - mysterious, magical & holy! Wet on skin: Pretty much the same! It's changed slightly, but I can't pick exactly what or how. It's a bit woodsier than I normally like, but not enough to put me off it. Dry on skin: Changed slightly again - now it's a bit drier, but also sweeter. Strange, but pretty! Still smells right for a D&D Cleric! After a few hours: This one just keeps morphing while still suiting the name! The rose amber, frankincense & myrrh are quite easy to pick out now. It keeps changing, but so far I'm liking everything it changes into. Verdict: This is really nice - a holy (I really think it's the myrrh/frankincense combo giving it that feel), woodsy, magical smell. Not a daily scent, but very, very cool! I really need to try layering this with some of the other RPG scents!

    Kyoto

In the imp: The main note is a scent I don't recognise - it smells rather like licorice, so I'm guessing that must be the star anise? There's a bit of sandalwood & a tiny hint of cherry blossom too (though really it smells more like the bark of a cherry blossom tree rather than the actual flowers, because it's so faint), but mostly it's the strange licoricey note. Wet on skin: It's MUCH fainter on my skin - the white sandalwood is the main note now, but this is really subtle at this point. Dry on skin: Star anise & the cherry blossom has shown up! Yum! The white sandalwood is here too, but not as noticeable. This smells strange, but weirdly familiar & I can't place it. I think I like it though? After a few hours: Much more subtle now, but otherwise about the same as dry. Verdict: This smells really familiar & I have no idea what it reminds me of! It's quite nice though. Not sure I'd ever buy a bottle of it, but I'll probably get some use out of the imp.

    Brown Jenkin

In the imp: Wow, this is really interesting! Notes are exactly as described - it's soft, dusty & woodsy, but it has a slightly creepy feel to it! Wet on skin: Mostly dry, dusty sandalwood. There's a hint of all the other notes & they do add a little something intriguing to it, but it's mainly just sandalwood on me. Dry on skin: This has faded a lot! Sandalwood is still the main note, but there's just enough of the others now to keep it interesting! After a few hours: Even more faded now. Sandalwood is still the main note & it's the only one I can really pick out, but it's not the only note. Verdict: "Soft, dusty & woodsy" still feels like the best way to describe this. It doesn't sound like something I'd normally go for, but I really like this one & can definitely see myself wearing it!

    Tweedledum

In the imp: Exactly as described - this really does smell absurd! I'm a little nervous about the patchouli as that usually doesn't like me (it tends to go absolutely foul &/or cause severe headaches & nausea), but I'm hoping it will play nicely this time! Wet on skin: Patchouli seems to be the main note here but this is really weird because it didn't instantly go gross! It's smelling like how patchouli often smells on people who aren't me! The green tea is there too & the fruits are way off in the background. Dry on skin: WHY HELLO THERE MANGO & FIG! So nice of you to join us (& so intensely)! Yuuuuuuum! The green tea & patchouli are just playing nicely together in the background! Did I just say the patchouli is behaving itself? On MY skin? I don't want to jinx this, but so far this is smelling GORGEOUS! Mango & fig are most definitely my friends! After a few hours: *Whimper* This is so nice! It's basically the same as dry, except slightly faded. The patchouli is still behaving (it's almost not even there!), the mango & fig are still in charge & the green tea is just balancing it all nicely! Verdict: I love this! It smells like a fantasy tropical-island dessert (or cocktail)! Perfect for summer evenings!

    Shanghai

In the imp: As described! This is really light & delicate & gives the impression of a cool breeze on a warm spring day. Wet on skin: Almost exactly the same as in the imp! Very pretty! Dry on skin: The honeysuckle has faded noticeably (still there though), but otherwise about the same. Very dainty & fresh! After a few hours: About the same as dry, maybe the tiniest hint of soapiness. Sweet, clean & subtle, yet refreshing! Verdict: Just lovely! Perfect for when I want a pretty, yet mild scent!
  22. JuliskaMarie

    Muse

In the imp: A fairly intense & heady zesty-floral. Tuberose & Jasmine mainly, with a lot of lime & a little lotus. Wet on skin: The tuberose & jasmine have stepped back here - this is now mostly lotus, with a little bit of lime zest & a hint of tuberose & jasmine in the background. MUCH lighter & more delicate than in the imp! Dry on skin: The tuberose & jasmine are showing up a little more now, but this is still very light & delicate. Very pretty & slightly aquatic! After a few hours: Almost exactly the same as dry, only with a little less lime. Maybe the faintest hint of soapiness, but in the nicest possible way. Verdict: It's not super-exciting in any way (except in the early stages when the lime is obvious), but this is VERY pretty! Perfect for when I need a soft, sweet & fairly classic-smelling perfume!
  23. JuliskaMarie

    Absinthe

In the imp: It's been a while since I've had Absinthe, but this is more or less what I remember it smelling like, only the perfume is a bit more magical-smelling than the drink... so maybe it's what the Green Fairy smells like! Wet on skin: Not quite as fresh as in the imp - the same notes, but they've moved around a bit. Dry on skin: Less like the Green Fairy, more like actual Absinthe, only less alcoholic. Something in it has turned slightly soapy, but it's just giving the whole thing a really "clean" feeling at the moment. I quite like this! After a few hours: The soapiness is still there, but it doesn't ruin it. My husband says I smell like a lolly shop, haha! Verdict: It fades to a light, sweet lolly-soap smell fairly quickly, but it's still strangely nice! Not for days when I need a lasting perfume, but if I just need something pretty & exciting to boost my mood for a little while, this works wonderfully. I'd be curious to try it in a scent locket too!
  24. JuliskaMarie

    Amsterdam

In the imp: Tulips mainly, with a little peony & grass Wet on skin: Peonies! The tulips & grass are still there, but the peonies have taken the lead here. There's a very 'fresh' feel to this - like being next to a stream, in a really beautiful park in springtime! Dry on skin: All blended together now, so it's hard to pick out individual notes. A very sweet, fresh floral. After several hours: Slightly soapy floral. Still a really nice scent though. Verdict: This is a gorgeous springtime scent! While it does end up a bit soapy on me, it takes quite a while to get to that point, so it smells fresh for a fairly long time. I really like this one!
  25. JuliskaMarie

The Passionate Shepherd To His Love

(2013 Version) In the bottle: Clover! Everything else is there when I actually try to pick it out, but the clover is the dominant note here - it's so gorgeous! It smells like a light rain or heavy mist in a meadow in a fairytale! Wet on skin: Less clover now - the carnation & heather have taken the lead. It smells slightly more "solid" now. The airy/rainy/misty vibe is still there, just lessened quite a bit. Dry on skin: Carnation mainly, with hints of ivy, heather & clover. Different, but still pretty. After a few hours: Carnation & heather. Verdict: I really like this a lot! It's nice on my skin, but I LOVE it in the bottle - another one to test with a scent locket one day!
