    Belle Époque

This smelled very strongly of opium at first, or at least the "Opium" perfume my mother wore when I was growing up. The note then faded and blended out to a pretty floral that wasn't too sweet. I don't really wear florals though, so I don't really know what to say other than it was nice. I didn't get the sandalwood or vanilla notes, though.

I was actually hoping for the sharp lime/lemongrass attack that people were complaining about but I never got it. Wet it was sweet and tart and lemony delicious. (no lime that I can pick out, though) Dry it slowly turned into a gorgeous "warm island"-creamy-coconut-floral-tropical smell. Really, really lovely. Medium throw. Wow. I don't like florals, or girly scents, and I thought this fragrance was emphatically "not me" but it's so... *pretty* I might end up buying a bottle anyway, which is saying something. I imagine it'd be great in warm weather.

    Absinthe

This didn't work for me at all. I love anise, but I got no anise or fennel, just a faint minty herbal, reminiscent of Envy but less soapy. It also faded pretty quickly. Oh well. ADDED Nov. 10: I got no anise from this at all, which was unfortunate as that was what I was hoping for. The first time I tried it I got a minty herbal, reminescent of Envy. The second time I got a strong, sweet, almost candied lemon while wet which faded down to a soft pleasant, feminine herbal. Nice, but not my thing.

Body chemistry is so interesting! I so wanted this to work, since it sounded delicious and reminded me of the KMFDM song. In the imp this was all minty, boozy and sweet. On my skin it turned into a strong blast of baby powder in under 10 seconds- giving it the dubious honor of being the only oil I've tried that I've ran to wash off. (the "baby powder" effect seems to have happened to a bunch of people...) I was so confused I grabbed my roommate and smeared it on her to see what the problem was. On her it was minty with a hint of booze. After a while she got a slight powdery tinge. Bizarre.
