  1. Mary Read is one of my all-time favorites and conveniently a GC. It's not super aquatic, but it definitely has an ocean-y vibe, and a couple aquatic notes (it's "salt air, ocean mist, aged patchouli, sarsaparilla, watered-down rum, leather-tinged musk, and a spray of gunpowder").

Then there's Octopus, from last year's Song of Nature LEs ("Pale moss, white kelp, sea buckthorn berry, ambergris accord, Somalian frankincense, rose geranium, and salt"). That one reminds me of a New England beach in cold weather.

Octopus is one of my favorite aquatics. It's not as powerful as others, so I use it when I don't want to show off but I'm still feeling oceanic!

  2. Yes please more of this forever.

I may actually have to snag a bottle of this, I don't do that very often.

Rose and pomegranate have done some very nice things on my skin and I keep getting compliments!

  3. I know there are a few threads floating around pertaining to bedtime BPAL and suchlike, but I'm wondering if anybody's had a scent that they wore to bed that knocked them out cold. I have some pretty nasty anxiety but I usually end up avoiding using meds right before going to bed because I'm usually doing homework and I need clarity for that. When it doesn't prevent me from sleeping entirely, it lends itself to some intense (but admittedly creative) nightmares. I've used Somnus and Baku pretty regularly but I think I've acquired some sort of immunity, regrettably. :(

Long story short, does anybody know of anything that would work in that vein?

  4. This one faded faster than I expected it to, all my other frankincense-based things stay on for at least six hours. However, I don't mind it as much with this, as it tapers out into a very pleasant woodiness towards the end. It comes on a little too strong at the start for my tastes, but it's well worth it to let it mellow.

  5. This is a totally unexpected reaction and has never happened to me before with any BPAL product.

This one burns on my skin. I put a dab on my neck and it's stinging in a really nasty way and it's freaking me out. :( Maybe it's just that my skin is dry, but that didn't happen with the Strawberry Moon I had on this morning.

I'm chalking this one up to ill-fated chemistry and giving the decant to a friend. I like the scent well enough, but I'll take not smelling like gingerbread over physical pain any day.

  6. For 2013:

I don't get much of the incense, weirdly enough. I do love it, however, because I get slammed with sense-memories of baking and spiced cider and various other kitchen-based activities.

Quite nice, overall, definitely a keeper!

  7. 2011.

Oh yes. Deep and boozy and sweet without being cloying. Incredibly liquid and slinky, perfect for a bleak autumn day. It fills you up and makes you want to settle down in it and just luxuriate.
