    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Yes, it is way too big for GoogleDocs, especially when you start adding all your color-coding and whatnot. I used to have mine on GD, but it got to the point where it just wouldn't open anymore.

    L'Autunno Bath Oil

I don't know if I'd associate this with autumn, per se, but it's gorgeous. Tonight I used it at the end of my shower by pouring a bit into my hand and rubbing my skin down with it, then lightly rinsing. The oil in the bottle smells pretty close to cinnamon toast. At first application, the patchouli is incredibly strong, bolstered by resinous myrrh, but the earthy phase lasts for just a few seconds and gives way to a light and sweet herbal scent. The result is super-soft skin with no films or residue...and I keep sticking my head inside my bathrobe to sniff myself.

    Clémence

If you've tried Spanked and found it just a *bit* too raunchy, Clémence is for you. It's the same sultry cardamom, the same sexy patchouli. Clémence is sensual; she's definitely hinting at something dirty, but she's not screaming depravity like Spanked does. The clove is most powerful in the wet stage but backs off quickly. Carnation and tea notes make this spicy scent almost elegant. I'm looking at the full artwork on the BPAL site now, and the shibari-type bondage in the background is so appropriate: it's ultimately about sex and sexuality, but it's beautiful and almost subtle in its approach. It's absolutely intoxicating.

    War

Holy hell. War smells like damp basement and perm solution. The ginger is probably behind the mustiness I'm associating with "basement," but I very much think the red musks are to blame for the horrific sour notes. Honeysuckle makes this one a stomach-turner because it seems so out of place. Unless you enjoy red musk, join the peace movement and avoid War.

    Nostrum Remedium

Nostrum Remedium starts out very light and refreshing. I expected something stronger from the wasabi, but as far as I can tell all it's doing is making the scent feel "green." The tea leaf is in the forefront throughout the scent's lifetime, very lightly sweetened by honey. It's a pretty blend, but I can't see myself reaching for it often as it's got almost no throw and fades to something akin to that lingering soap smell you get after you bathe with hotel toiletries. It's nice, but it's not me.

    The Antikythera Mechanism

I wish I could say that I loved this one as much as most others did, but it's just teakwood on me. I wanted sweet heady tobacco to take center stage with vanilla adding a nice creaminess. Sadly, teakwood is making my arm smell like I just robbed the men's cologne department at Macy's.

    Pickled Imp

I can tell this will be my favorite of all the CD blends. It smells so damn similar to the Chaos Theory I adore that I thought I'd never be able to reproduce that it's like Beth made Pickled Imp just for me. In the bottle: Slightly astringent vanilla. If I make myself believe it's pine sap tweaking the smooth vanilla, I smell trees. Wet: Vanilla and spicy hot clove. I'm already in love. Dry: I smell like cookies. Baked goods. Every tasty morsel I can imagine. The cinnamon really warms my nose as I repeatedly sniff my arm and desperately try to avoid making sugar-and-spice cookies.

Sorry it took me so long to update! The Frederic and Worm Moon groups have been added to the bottom of the spreadsheet, and the room sprays were added to the BPTP tab.

    Stress Relief Elixir

Oh! I get packages of bath salts that smell like this! It's an awesome soft sweet mint and dry herbal/floral scent. Very soothing -- I will hoard my tiny half imp of it. Edit: I have since obtained two bottles of it. It's geranium, sage and peppermint. It's calming and uplifting all at once. I can't wait to get my bath oil of the same scent!

    Cinnamon girl...

Saw-Scaled Viper is very dry, and very heavy on the ginger, IMO. I don't get cinnamon at all from it.

A note to all: Frederic's entry will be included in the spreadsheet with the next big update. In case you were looking for him.

I don't maintain one with full descriptions, but you might find something here. ScentScribbles is maintained by foxfirefey of LJ and is a great online resource.

The link in my sig? It works just fine...right click and "Save as" to download the .xls. In fact, I just updated it with Sugar Moon & friends, and the recently publicized unreleased blends.

    TKO Massage Oil

I received a nice large decant of TKO yesterday and immediately tried it. The consistency is perfect, very light, and it soaks into the skin without being greasy or leaving a film. It left my hands very soft! The scent is...well, I woke up this morning and thought I smelled shortbread. I have no idea how I made that association, but it was definitely shortbread, and it was definitely wafting from my hands. It's not an overpowering scent, and I did fall asleep pretty quickly last night. There's more creamy vanilla in it than lavender, but I amp vanilla, so YMMV. Now to get the boyfiend to use it on me...

Thanks, I've only managed to mix up all the columns twice. I can't seem to get my sorts to apply to the entire sheet, as opposed to just one column, leaving all the others in thier previous orders. More experimenting in order... Well, you could hit Ctrl+A, and then hold the Ctrl key again and click the first row (line 1 on the left) to remove the header row (all the column titles) from the selection. Or you can click and hold row number 2 in the left column with your mouse and just drag your cursor all the way down to select everything. Then sort!

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Oh my goodness! I can't believe the amount of work and love that went into this. I just manually searched the forums to track down the category/subgroup names for the imps I just acquired in lots, so that I could look them up on the lab site, so I could log all the scents and their notes to create a listing to help me get familiar with things before my first imps arrive. It took me four hours. And then, about five minutes after I was done, I found this! So, I feel about 3 parts silly, and 97 parts grateful beyond belief! Thank-you. Now, silly q. When there are updates to this (or any other) sheet, do I need to copy and paste to insert or do they update on their own? I know, I know, but I haven't used excel since the early nineties, and I'm a mac girl to boot, so one can only hope I don't accidently wipe the entire thing in one fell swoop until I reacquaint myself with the program. You're welcome. When there are updates, I put the new lines at the bottom of the spreadsheet, and will change the date in my sig to reflect the last time the sheet was updated. The easiest way to get the updates is to open the version I have on my webspace, copy out the new lines, and paste into your local copy. I recommend changing the filename of your local version so that you don't accidentally wipe out the entire thing.
  19. The only thing I have found in BPAL that even reminded me of B&BW's Night-Blooming Jasmine was the floral in Snow White. Thanks; I'll have to get to the mall one of these days to see if there's any resemblance. I have a decant of Snow White '05, but I have no idea what Night-blooming Jasmine smells like.

    Favorite labdanum blends?

The rose barely came out for me on the drydown, but if you amp rose...
  21. I'd like to find a BPAL that resembles BB&W's Night-blooming Jasmine: * Fragrance Top Notes: Lilac, Jasmine * Fragrance Mid Notes: Violet Leaves, Freesia Petals, Spring Rain Accord * Fragrance Base Notes: Orris, Musk My future SIL likes it, and I'm coming up with a BPAL/BPTP/Arcana/etc. gift basket for her shower.

    Favorite labdanum blends?

Pulcinella & Teresina is the most labdanum heavy blend I've ever tried, but I do love Magdalene. The latter is pretty heavy on the florals, though, and the labdanum just gives it a rich note. If you don't want florals, you probably wouldn't want it.

notes listed according to their percentage?

I don't think it's percentage so much as top notes, middle notes, and base notes. It tends to be the case that the first notes listed are the ones I smell first, and so forth. Of course, that's not always the case, so I could be way off.

Looking for a scent to help a hangover

I use GRR when I've got a serious alcohol-induced headache. It's the only thing I can wear that doesn't make my stomach roll over.

What do bottles and labels look like?

Not all of 'em. Grr, Ugh, and Oof, at the very least, are white labels that have the scent's name in big colored letters.
