  1. I was really looking foward to Pele, but it just wasn't intense enough for me. I was hoping for a deep, exotic scent but Pele is mostly just clean florals. When I rubbed my wrists together, the scent came out more. Very pretty, but I would like Pele if it was somehow more concentrated.

  2. Kali, the Black One, is the fearless Goddess of Destruction, Creation, Energy [in her Shakti aspect] and Dissolution. Also named Kaliratri [black Night] and Kalikamata [black Earth-Mother], she is the fiercest aspect of Devi, the supreme mother goddess. Kali is a protector Goddess, the destroyer of evil spirits and guardian of the faithful. She, along with her consort Shiva, represent the unending cycle of death and birth, sexual union, creation and destruction. Kali annihilates ignorance, maintains the natural order of the world, and blesses those who strive for spiritual awareness and knowledge of true holiness with infinite tenderness and motherly love. The constant, unending Work of Creation is called the "The Play of Kali". This perfume is a blend of the sacred blooms of cassia, hibiscus, musk rose, Himalayan wild tulip, lotus and osmanthus swirled with offertory dark chocolate, red wine, tobacco, balsam and honey.

Oh Kali, how I tried to love you! While wet, Kali is rosey and chocolately and nice. After it dries, all I get is something that reminds me of nailpolish remover. I think it's the combination of wine and florals. :P

  3. This was a dusty, powdery, bluish-purple scent. I discovered that I personally dislike violets -- they're a bit too strong for me to handle, but on the plus side, The Raven had good lasting power. I liked Sybaris a bit better than this one.

  4. Eve isn't a very rosey scent on me. The apple blossom comes out the strongest. I usually like scents that are sweeter, but I think I'll keep this one. I'd recommend it for someone who likes Ophelia, and think it would be interesting to try layered with O.

  5. While Wolfsbane definitely shows off BPAL's artistry, I'm not a person who likes herbal/green scents, so this one didn't work for me. I'd recommend it for someone who enjoys woodsy blends, or someone new who wants to experience a range of scents offered by BPAL.

  6. Persephone is one of the best BPAL scents I've ever tried. Unfortunately, rose tends to "wilt" on my skin after a few hours and I couldn't wear it anymore. I'd recommend this for anyone to try, just to experience it, even those who don't necessary like fruit or floral scents. If my skin chemistry didn't bring out the rose so much, I'd have bought a 5ml of this.

  7. I immediately liked the scent description for Blood Kiss for the vanilla, honey, clove, and cherries. It made me think of a poor man's Formula 54. :P I expected to love this scent, and did while it was wet. It seems that I'm only getting vetiver and musk now that it's dry though. I'll give it another try because the description sounds too good to give it up so soon.

  8. When I first put this on, it smells like evil almonds. :P After it dries, it smells like evil dark-colored hard candy and evil french milled soap. This isn't my type of scent at all, as it isn't sweet or spicy or floral or feminine in any way. This is one of the oddest perfume blends I've never smelled.

  9. The lovely Emu Nymph was kind enough to send some of this to me. At first I thought the blackberry wine was too strong for me to ever wear. I started wearing it to bed because even though it was strong, I thought it was so beautiful. I found that it helped me to relax, so I started wearing when I felt tense or had an upset stomach. Mabon is unlike any other scent I've worn, but I love it! I'd definitely like some more of this.

  10. Why was I so surprised that this really smelled like chocolate? Bliss layers beautifully with other scents, can be worn well by itself. It has good staying power because hours after the layered scents have faded, Bliss is still there. It's also not grossly sweet -- I love it! Must find a 5ml of this one.

  11. When I first put this on, I could smell the coconut with something warm in the background. The coconut fades on me after maybe 15 minutes and I'm left with a smoky rum scent. Very nice to wear on a cold day!

Perversion is a warm, cloudy gold color. It actually smells exactly like Snake Oil on me but without the spice. It seems to have good lasting power, and hasn't changed much since after the coconut went away. I'll definitely use up my imp.

  12. Sudha Segara smells lifeless on me. I'm not sure why, but it's like flat soda. This is very disappointing, as I was looking forward to this scent for a long time and it seems to work beautifully on other people. I'll give it a few more tries and hopefully I'll be able to update my review with good news.

ETA: Dana O'shee and Alice are my absolute favorite scents, but I don't get any of the creaminess in Sudha Segara that others are lucky enough to experience. I suppose my skin brings out the ginger too much. I could fully imagine this as a beautiful, milky-sweet ginger blend, and the color would be pale yellow. I wish Sudha Segara worked for me. :P

  13. I know what you're (possibly) thinking.  If my heart was just smashed into a thousand and one pieces, how can I possibly be thinking about perfume?

Dear, I think just about everyone here on the forums reaches for a favorite imp when they've got the blues, or if they're going through heartbreak. I went through it recently, so I'll list scents that were in rotation, or ones I was thinking of often:

    Dana O'shee

    Dragon's Milk

    Velvet

    Bliss

    Sudha Segara

    Gingerbread Poppet

Lampades (when I was feeling a bit more "tart" and didn't want to smell sweet, heh)

The note on Lampades also says that I wanted to wear a stronger scent at times, to appear that I was stronger and didn't need comforting.

  14. Jack smells more like peach cobbler than pumpkin pie on me. It's nice, but I have to sniff really hard to get past the peach smell. Perhaps Gingerbread Poppet (nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon) will smell more like what I was looking for in Jack, minus the peach.

In the future, I will probably stay away from peach scents because my skin seems to amplify the fruit so much. In the vial, Jack really does smell like something beautifully warm and buttery...

  15. Curry! :P That's okay, Magdalene smells like Chinese takeout on me, which is sad because I know it's really beautiful on other people.

I started off with an imp of Queen Mab from quantum spice, and I liked it because it was really sweet and sexy on me. Then I got a 10ml with a reduer cap, and it lets out way too much. What seems to happen is that in small doses, Queen Mab retains its sweetness. From my new bottle however, Queen Mab is greener either because the blend is a bit different or because a larger quantity allows the green to come out stronger.
