  1. Well, descriptions for Black Broom scents aren't available on the website or on the forums. Once someone posts a review for a Black Broom scent, you may be able to get a feeling of what the notes are and what it smells like, but again, no written description is available. You could try emailing the Lab if you were really curious.

Third edit: You can hit the "report" button to ask to have this thread moved to BPAL Chatter, so you don't have to start a duplicate thread.

  2. OOPS! I deleted my earlier post. This one says that Babalu Aye is a Black Broom scent:

    A thread about mystery scents:

What is this scent? I can't find info on it on the website!

Also, by searching for "Babalu" on the forums, I found the above posting, as well as this one:

The recommendations forum is really awesome for if you are looking for a particular type of scent, maybe for a gift, or something matching to the kinds of perfumes you like. You may find the BPAL Chatter a better place for random BPAL queries. :P

  3. Well hey, this isn't so bad! When I first applied Wanda, I said to myself, "Amazing -- you smell like you spilled red wine all over yourself!" All of the florals come out once dry, though. The floral bouquet reminds me a lot of Phantom Queen, but with the nagging insistence of leather underneath. Wanda is much lighter than I expected it would be! The wine really calms down once the oil dries, fading into a sharp top note that blends with all of the flowers.

  4. Hmm.

I can immediately smell the musk, jasmine, and almond in Salome. This vaguely reminds me of Queen of Sheba. Salome is powdery and exotic, and reminds me of incense. This is something I'd imagine a bellydancer to wear.

I think the description is completely accurate of it being both coquettish and sinister, exotic and lush, brimming with grace and viciousness. This is the scent of a sensual, teasing woman who isn't afraid to hurt a man. I thought I didn't like Salome at first, but I may just keep it incase of seduction. :P

  5. Cerberus, we finally meet!

While wet, this smells like a soft forest. The scent of trees is strong, sweetened by the juniper berries. Nice, but not my style at all. At this stage, I'm thinking The Boy might have better luck with Cerberus.

Suddenly, yes, suddenly, this changes! The chocolate decides to make an entrance, pushing the juniper aside. The "tree" scent from earlier reveals itself as fig in disguise. Cerberus gets sweeter and sweeter with every sniff, becoming something like the sugary residue left from faded Gingerbread Poppet.

From the description, I thought I'd like (if not love Cerberus). Upon first sniff, I figured we wouldn't really get along. As it dries, I grow to like it, although the foresty smell is nothing like what I'd usually wear. I'm still not sure about it, but I'll keep it and perhaps wear it today. :P

ETA: Hours later, after having layered Dana O'shee and Gingerbread Poppet on my wrists after wearing Cerberus, I think I still smell traces of it. I couldn't smell any musk while this was wet and still going strong, but there is something left on my wrist that smells sexual, I think. Hmm.

  6. I'm sorry that you have to live with such severe and threatening allergies. I hope you have success in emailing BPAL with the notes that you're allergic to.

I don't think that all of the ingredients should be listed on the site. Unfortunately, many bath and body products only list "fragrance" or "perfume," not individual ingredients comprising the fragrance. Again, I hope you have success in emailing BPAL, as the Labbies are the only ones who can really help.

  7. So...Zephyr...you smell like baby powder on me. We cannot be friends.

When my mom sniffed my Zephyred wrist, she exclaimed, "Wow! I like it!" This is the first BPAL scent my mom has been excited about, so I gave her my imp. She wears Miracle, Beautiful, Ralph Lauren Blue, and at times, Pleasures. I'd recommend Zephyr to someone who wants a light, white, slighty powdery floral.

  8. First sniff: Wow, this is... ::cough:: Potent! I smell the patchouli and fig in Nemesis right away.

Drying: Okay, I know there's rose in here because I get a soapy smell, but it's only here for a flash.

Dry: Nemesis is radiating a "foresty" smell, perhaps the cypress. I'm surprised that I like this -- I hate most cedar/pine/forest scents, but I don't mind this at all.

This smells thick. I never wear woody scents but this is pretty good!

  9. Rapture is a warm rose scent. I recognize the myrrh because it smells slightly burned on my skin. Rose blends for the most part turn soapy on my skin. Unfortunately, I can't smell any of the other notes in this -- and the ingredient list sounds so amazing! Rapture seems like it would be an exciting, sexy scent. It's very boring on my skin, though. :P

  10. Oh! I smell it! I smell the White Rabbit!

    First few minutes:

I smell the black tea with ginger over it. And I can catch the white linen note in the background. So far this blend is like an unsweetened tea with a bit of lemon in it. It's very fresh. I hope the sweeter notes come out more as White Rabbit wears on. So far it's nice, but I don't know if I can wear something this "sharp."

White Rabbit is darkening a bit -- I think the pepper is showing through.

This might be good for those who like Lemon Sugar by Fresh. I can see myself wearing this when I need a calming scent, especially if I have an upset stomach. This is what I expected Sudha Segara to be like, but with a creamier undertone. Right now I just wish White Rabbit were sweeter -- then I'd definitely love it!

  11. I like Blood, but I'm not sure if I love it yet. It's definitely the sexiest BPAL I own right now, and sort of reminds me of Lust (possibly from the myrrh and overall mood). I like that it's strong and keeps up its intensity. The cherry is most pronounced when wet, but keeps the blend from smelling too dry as time goes on. I like this when layered with Dana O'shee to get a sexy-sweet blend. The cherry and almond complement each other well, and Dana O'shee's honey makes Blood much more wearable.

  12. Phantom Queen smells like the candy-sweet floral that I loved in Queen Mab. Phantom Queen is less grassy, which I like. The first time I tried it, I was reminded of potpourri I used to love when I was younger. I like it, but I wish it had something spicy to make it more naughty than nice. :P As I keep sniffing it, Phantom Queen shifts between a powdery floral and a sharp floral that makes me think of Herbal Essences shampoo. I hardly wear Phantom Queen but I'll keep it around because it's so beautiful.

  13. Wow, I never expected to like this! Incantation really is sexy, dark, and mysterious. It's smooth but sharp at the same time, with the lemon floating over top. This reminds me of a Darkswan soap, I think, maybe Badedas? This is too masculine for me to wear personally. It's darkly herbal I guess, and not really spicy. I'm totally giving this to The Boy -- he will wear it and love it, or else!

    (Damn, this is sexy.)

  14. First reaction: wow!

Seraphim smells bright, soapy, and cold! My skin is even cold to the touch. This smells very white and "high" as others have said. Wow, is this what heaven is supposed to smell like? It's very nice, but too floral for my tastes. I'd recommend this to someone who likes white florals but maybe found Sacred Whore of Babylon, Black Dahlia, and Bayou to be too heavy.

  15. Oh wow, I think I might be allergic to honeysuckle! When first applied, Anathema is like an Allegra-popper's nightmare! :P The honeysuckle is thick and bright, very real. The scent quickly darkens, almost into nothing. I mainly smell a very dark powder, most likely the opium. I don't really detect any vetiver. This dark stage would be interesting on a man.
