    Queen of Clubs

A review for Queen of Clubs, via BPAL chat. DragonGrl: smell smell! DragonGrl: (: tart: i'll dab tart: smells like soil a little? with pomegranate on top DragonGrl: mmm tart: i dunno, it smells like outside tart: almost like being next to a lake DragonGrl: Hm. DragonGrl: Is this in the bottle or on you? tart: on the backs of my hands tart: there's something decided aquatic about this. maybe it's the pomegranate mixing with something else tart: it's like water on top of dirt tart: okay i think that the aquaticness is wearing off tart: i don't like aquatics. tart: i didn't really plan on getting QoC because it had amber in it. it's warming up now, more just pomegranate than aquatic, with something underneath it that is almost like a cooking smell tart: i think QoC reminds me of something but I don't know what DragonGrl: Oh, I hate that feeeling. tart: i dunno if i'm going to keep this or not tart: It's basically like soft amber with earth. So long as the amber doesn't turn into dirrty sex on me, I'll be okay. Actually, it's like Snake Oil Ultra Lite to me. Snake Oil reduced by 1000. Ahh, so perhaps Queen of Clubs will be the first wearable amber scent for me. Who knows, maybe it'll turn on me later. I like it a lot once it dries, but I don't know if I can get hip to the sharp smell in the beginning.

    Honey Moon

Honey Moon smells like pollen! But not literally so. It smells like the inside of a flower, something pale and yellow and warm. I can smell the thyme, which seems to be the cap that keeps Honey Moon from getting too sweet. I love it!
  3. Is there a particular note you're drawn to? For me, it's apricot (or peach also works). I don't really like fruity scents, and I don't own any bottles with apricot in it, but I keep a couple of imps that make me go nutty like catnip. March Hare puts me in a deliciously happy mood, but I rarely wear it. Keep your eyes (err, nose) out for a note that does this for you.
  4. I know that some people keep really good track of their orders, as far as order date, "shipped" date, C-n-S date, and arrival date. Maybe that can help you get a feel of the current trends. It's hard to say, though. My Pink Moon seemed to come at the "end" of orders, while my Milk Moon came at the beginning. I really don't know.

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

Aren't there two Justices ETA: I swear, I thought there were two Justice scents, but there weren't two review threads for Justice. Hmm...
  6. Another for Cenzton Totochtin -- it definitely was darker than I was hoping for.

    Where is this scent?

Yeah, it's listed as "Verandi" in the website search engine. I posted it in the search bug listing, but maybe not in the right one.

    Rain Scents

Here are some threads that came up by me searching for titles containing the word "rain": http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=13508 http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=6137 http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=2919 My personal suggestion would be Neo Tokyo for something to complement the rain. Or you could do a cozy scent like Dana O'shee, if the rain makes you want to cuddle...

    Mi-Go Brain Canister

My dad's reaction to Mi-Go Brain Canister: :sniff sniff: You smell like wine. :sniff: But a good wine. :sniff: Yeah, you smell like wine. When wet, Mi-Go is full of sweet fruits, primarily melon and kiwi. It makes me think a little of Titania. The sweetness backs off as it dries, leaving a still fruity, but floral scent. It reminds me of Pink Moon, in its floral/sugary stage, before it starts disagreeing with me. I'm a bit surprised that I like Mi-Go because I didn't previously like fruity scents, but this is perfect for summertime. Incidentally, I apply my BPAL with the index finger on my left hand, and so I know how Mi-Go tastes as well as how it smells. Mi-Go has a much stronger taste than any other BPAL I've "tried" -- most are indetectable after application, if I happen to get my finger in my mouth. But Mi-Go is really strong.

    March Hare

I have been waiting so long to try March Hare! Thanks, joseybird! I like this a lot right away. There isn't much to describe scent-wise, as it really is just apricot and clove. The apricot is sweet, and the clove makes the entire thing smell like a wonderful pastry. I'm so excited! This does remind me a lot of a candle, probably because of the clove. I'm very tempted to get a 5ml of this!

    Nyarlathotep

Nyarlathotep smells black. While wet, it is like a black incense mixed with citrus. After it dries, the scent that is left is sort of airy, but still heavy. It's still like a smoky, powdery citrus-incense blend, but with something herbal as well, and not black. I wouldn't mind smelling this on a guy.

    Endymion

Endymion is a soft, pretty scent. It starts out with pear, then lifts to reveal florals, and finally a sweet musk underneath. I would recommend this to someone who liked Eve or Tamora. (It really smells a lot like Eve to me, but I think a Tamora fan might like it.)

Your Best-Bet "Must Try" Enabling Scents

Well, it might help to also take a look at the "scent families" listed in the advanced mode of the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab website's search engine: http://vanilla.spicybrains.org/index.php The scent families are: Animalic/Musky Floral Fruity Green/Leafy/Herbal Oriental/Gourmand/Spicy Ozone/Marine/Fresh Resin/Incensy/Smoky Woody/Chypre You've already made scent categories of your own, but you can also search for scents at the URL above in this way. My suggestions: Forum favorites - Snake Oil, O Light and clean - Neo-Tokyo (or Embalming Fluid...I think I have that somewhere) Lush and foody - Dana O'shee (so long as she's okay with almond) Rich floral - Queen Mab I think Hamadryad may be a good choice for your last imp. I haven't tried it either, to be honest...

    Turn around time

When they're shipped through a definite date, I guess...additionally, I remember one of the Lab folks saying that posting a "Shipped Through" notice adds to the amount of email correspondence they get because more people want to inquire about their orders...
  15. tart

    Turn around time

No. They haven't posted a notice that they are "Shipped Through 3/25," so they can still be working on orders from 3/25.

    Pink Moon 2005

Pink Moon. We are not meant to be together. First sniff from the bottle is wonderfully PINK, floral and sugary, like some kind of candy. On my skin, the pink goodness lasts for a little bit. After about 10 minutes, I smell what I think is labdanum, but maybe it isn't. After another ten minutes or so, the labdanum smell is gone and I'm left with a sweet strawberry-floral scent. Pink Moon doesn't last very long on me. I caught some good whiffs of it in my hair, but not enough to satiate me. The after-smell in my hair smells a lot like Chaste Moon. As much as I wish Pink Moon would work for me, I may have to let it go. Too bad, so sad!

    Seduction

The plan was to try out Seduction on my skin today, with the intention of luring The Boy into bed... ...but we ended up running an errand with me sitting in the back of the car, not being close to him at all. He couldn't smell me, so mission failed. I'll have to try this out again during a time when he can actually smell me, so that Seduction can work its magic. Upon application: Strong and thick florals! Swelling, pulsating...not girly, but womanly. Drying: Okay, this is calming down a bit. Not so heady, but still very floral. Dry: Smells like sticking your nose into a flower full of pollen. Maybe this is what butterflies and bees smell when they're fluttering and buzzing about. All I can think of when I smell this is pollen! There is also something sort of smoky or spicy in the background that makes me think of either Come to Me or Love Me -- it's been a while since I've tried those blends, though. Later: Just a breath of powdery florals left -- Seduction doesn't have the intensity that I was smelling before. Impressions: Well, I don't know if this really put me "in the mood," and I still need to try this out on The Boy. Seduction is pretty, just for wearing. It's sophisticated, not slutty. I'll have to try using it as a room scent, somehow, to see if I like it more as just a scent instead of smelling it on my own skin.

    Jabberwocky

Jabberwocky smells exactly like what's in it: pine, eucalyptus, and orange, no surprises. Strong, herbal, uplifting, bright. My sinuses feel a little better after sniffing so many imps today!

    Beltane 2005-06

Floral, grassy, fresh. Beltane smells very much like truly being outside -- there is nothing artificial smelling about it at all. A lovely scent full of wildflowers to celebrate springtime. Good for someone who likes green floral scents. As beautiful as this is, it isn't my style.

    Dragon's Bone

Ah ha...dry sandalwood with a powdery breath of dragon's milk. I'd recommend this for someone who wants a slightly sweet, powdery scent with a touch of incense and spice. Unisex. Almost cleansing. Good for someone who is looking for a scent similar to Morocco.

    Danube

Danube is a crisp, fresh, icy, citrusy floral. Grapefruit, are you in there? Pretty, feminine. Not sweet -- well, the florals might be a little sweet behind the citrus scent, but it's definitely not sugary. Not my style. ETA: As this dries more, this does smell watery! Ahh, so that's what aquatics smell like. Amazing.

    Kurukulla

Aww, how pretty! Kurukulla reminds me a lot of Persephone -- a sweet, juicy rose, a scent like blushing red lips. This is a beautiful, silky, romantic rose. It starts turning a little soapy on me as it dries, as many rose blends do. As long as it stays more on the red side and less on the soapy side, I'll keep it. Very nice!

    Dracul

Well damn...Dracul is another one of BPAL's incredibly sexy masculine scents. I was hoping to be able to wear this for myself, but I don't care for pine/fir scents on my skin. If I had a guy to put this on... Definitely keeping this one, even if I'm not wearing it...

    Lust

This is one of the very first BPAL scents I ever tried. I'm so thankful that the Lab sent me an imp of this with my order, because I'd been wanting to re-try some scents and see how my tastes have changed. The patchouli and myrrh make this scent very earthy. I recognize the ylang ylang from a lot of BPAL's sexy scents. The red musk brightens up the entire blend a little bit -- I recognize it from The Living Flame. Lust is a scent that a woman older than me would wear, a woman with confidence and control. I'd recommend Lust to someone who likes heady, incensey, sexual, or powerful scents. I might keep this imp for times when I want to be the center of attention.
