  1. I do this too. I used to use Eucerin, but that lotion is so thick, the perfume oil doesn't get anywhere at all. Aveeno is wonderful.
  2. I've got it mixed up now, but I think mint is a scent that is supposed to help one concentrate while taking tests. I think wearing vanilla curbs one's appetite. Yeah, that sounds right. Well, if you need to get psyched up, wear an energizing scent. If you tend to get nervous, wear a comforting scent...?

How long do bottles & imps last?

Oh no, how will I ever live on just a 5ml of Alice and a 5ml of Dana O'Shee? ::plots another order::
  4. lol!! (at your avatar, not your burn ) Hmm, I thought I already replied to this thread. Snake Oil turned my skin quite red wherever I applied it. I've had rather good luck though, as all of my very favorite perfumes don't irritate my skin. I'm guessing that if Snake Oil has cinnamon in it, then cinnamon's the culprit.

    Dana O'Shee

I haven't reviewed this yet? Dana O'Shee immediately made it onto my list of favorite scents. Wet: Quite almondy on me but I don't really mind it. Dry: An amazing mix of everything I could hope to naturally smell like. Sweet like sugar but not sickeningly so, as a resin might be. Rather good staying power although it might be hard to detect since it is so light. Overall: I need a bottle of this. I'd recommend it for everyone to try -- it's just one of those scents. Would be especially good for someone who likes Alice (especially if you've temporarily misplaced your imp ). Also a must try for Snake Oil fans who don't want such an intense scent for every day use.

    Regan

Regan is, unfortunately, not all that I hoped and dreamed it would be. When I first apply it -- orchid! Thank goodness, my favorite scent shines through. As it dries, however, the stephanotis comes through stronger, balancing the orchid and vanilla. (Or at least I assume it's the stephanotis...) It's not bad. Quite a nice blend actually for someone looking for a slightly sweetened floral. But for someone like me who wanted a super sweet floral, my body chemistry just won't have it. Maybe I'm crazy, but this smells to me like if Queen Mab and Ophelia had a love child. I'll keep trying this one before I make a final decision as orchid and vanilla is theoretically the be-all, end-all of fragrances for me.

    Where is this scent?

It's all good. I searched on BPAL and I searched on the boards and couldn't find anything. A few lovely forumites told me I had a prototype, so that's why we both couldn't find anything on Obeah.

I just got Obeah too! Check these out: Me trying to figure out what the heck Obeah was: http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=4673&hl= My review: http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=4676

    Where is this scent?

HAH! Obeah has its own place in the Up-and-Coming reviews. Pretty much the same thing I said above. http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=4676

    Where is this scent?

[uncontrollable glee] Ahh, dammit. I'm giddy like a schoolgirl. Based on the idea of obeahmanism, this sounds pretty cool. http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/awakening101/obeah.html AHH I AM SO EXCITED NOW. I just dabbed some on. Strong. White and green and warm all at the same time. Smells like there may be a citrus note, maybe a light patchouli? I wish I were more familiar with masculine scents...There is something so familiar in here, but I can't catch it. Maybe there is the slightest hint of pine or cedar here, but not in a way that makes me feel sick (like Goneril did -- sorry). This is clean and clear and...as it's starting to dry, something darker is coming. I will update with more details.

    Where is this scent?

I got an imp called Obeah with my order, but I can't find it anywhere on the site (not listed in the search or Shiny & New) and no one has mentioned it on the forums but me. Am I just bad at searching, going crazy, or...?? Someone clear this up for me.

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

Ahh, that's what I thought. Xiutecuhtli, Xochimilco, all of these crazy words. Thanks for responding!

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

In Spanish, "i" is like eeeeeeeeeeeh, like "weeeeee." So the ending is "tlee" because it's "tli." And for my two cents (hah I typed "scents"), I disagree with the suggested pronunciation of Xiutecuhtli. I think it's Seeyou-teh-COO-tlee. Not certain where she-wa-te-KWA-tle comes from. Xiu = Seeyou. X is like an "S" sound in Spanish, and "iu" is the dipthong of -eeyou. I could be wrong since this is Mexican and not Spanish, but still

    Where is this scent?

Yeah, that's a good idea. Blood Lotus was very bubblegum-y while wet, and then turned into something like Lust on me (which might be the leafy effect). Black Lotus was entirely different. No bubblegum smell at all. Maybe it was just my body chemistry.

    Info about combining orders?

Ahh, thank you for your responses -- I remember reading something from Beth about not combining orders anymore, but I thought that was at customers' requests.

    Info about combining orders?

How many of you have received a combined order? Was it due to problems/issues with previous orders? Or did you just have two orders placed a couple days apart, and received them in one package? If that is the case, how many days apart did you place those orders?

    Depraved

Oh, I wanted to love this one. The idea of black patchouli and apricot together sounded so naughty... I put Depraved on, and it was just me and the earthy patchouli. Fruity apricot never arrived. Oddly enough, this smelled very much like Intrigue on me (black palm, with cocoa, fig and shadowy wooded notes). The smell was nice and wearable, but not what I thought it would be. I was expecting a clash of peach and black, but instead got a soft and smooth scent.

    Titania

Titania reminds me very much of a candle I used to love to burn. If Titania were a color I think it would be the palest lavender. It is a very sweet, round scent with all notes blending together. Pretty, but too sweet for my style. Good for someone who likes florals, but dislikes green notes or spices.

    Pride

Pride actually made me laugh a little, it really does smell so stuck up. The narcissus and rose are overwhelming, but not in a bad way. I could see this (or smell this?) on a confident woman wearing a black dress. Good if you love floral bouquet scents.

    Alice

Oh my goodness, I love this. Wet: Smells like pure honey, nothing else. Dry: Curiouser and curiouser! I've never smelled anything like this before. I can't pick the rose out, but there is something beautifully spicy going on. Later: This has settled into something almost chocolatey, but maybe I'm imagining it. Overall: This scent would probably be appropriate for any occassion. It doesn't smell very "innocent" on me, or too girly since the florals aren't too strong. I love the spiciness of this -- almost like a Snake Oil Lite, but floral instead of smoke. I must have used a third of an imp today, I put this on everywhere. I ended up getting a 5ml bottle of this, I love it so!

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Well . Just as I've posted this, the Excel sheet sorted incorrectly and everything is out of order. ETA: I'm going to make a Microsoft Access version that should resist destruction.

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

As my Black Phoenix addiction has grown, I've been ordering, sending, and receiving so many lovely perfumes. I didn't want to lose track of how many I've actually tried, so I finally put together a spreadsheet of my own. The fields I'm using are: Date Name Size From (order, freebie, or swap) Status (kept, swapped, or to be swapped) Swapped From (travels of an imp purposes) Swapped To (ditto) The spreadsheet isn't really meant as a rating guide, or one to help me choose more perfumes in the future as it doesn't include scent descriptions yet. It's more like an inventory list. So from my lovely spreadsheet, I can see that: - I've decided to keep 6 imps for sure - I've swapped away 11 - Two more need to be swapped - I'm waiting for 16(!) scents to arrive - Etcetera, etcetera. I used Microsoft Excel to make my spreadsheet so if anyone is interested in seeing one for similar purposes, just let me know.
