When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

I just got Phanton Queen and I find it to be more herbal that Queen Mab. Perhaps Queen Mab does age, though, because I got my first taste of it from quantum spice. Hmm...
  2. You might want to do a search for the threads containing "sweetest BPAL oils," "candy galore," or "cotton candy" and cross-reference them.

    Jack

Jack smells more like peach cobbler than pumpkin pie on me. It's nice, but I have to sniff really hard to get past the peach smell. Perhaps Gingerbread Poppet (nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon) will smell more like what I was looking for in Jack, minus the peach. In the future, I will probably stay away from peach scents because my skin seems to amplify the fruit so much. In the vial, Jack really does smell like something beautifully warm and buttery...
  4. I went into an art museum's gift shop the other day...they were selling some rose-scented votives, and they seriously smelled like real roses, not the fake Victoria's Secret sort of rose. I imagine that Rose Red is a beautiful true rose. Get it! And definitely get Gingerbread Poppet, I've been dreaming about it...

Curry! That's okay, Magdalene smells like Chinese takeout on me, which is sad because I know it's really beautiful on other people. I started off with an imp of Queen Mab from quantum spice, and I liked it because it was really sweet and sexy on me. Then I got a 10ml with a reduer cap, and it lets out way too much. What seems to happen is that in small doses, Queen Mab retains its sweetness. From my new bottle however, Queen Mab is greener either because the blend is a bit different or because a larger quantity allows the green to come out stronger.

I haven't tried Venice yet. I try to stay away from blends with violet in them, but that one does sound pretty. I'm going to put Kitsune-Tsuki back on my wishlist. The only plum scent I've tried is Darkswan's Mandarin Plum, so maybe that one wouldn't be too bad. I'm trying to figure out what the green thing in Queen Mab is. Maybe osmanthus (common names: tea olive, sweet olive). I read that the blossoms are apricot scented, but it could be more of the plant smell than blossom smell that I'm getting. Or it might be the Chinese musk. I had issues with Psyche which shares Chinese musk and orchid in common with Queen Mab. Let's face it, I'm trying to pin the blame on which note messed up Queen Mab for me.

I thought I was in love with Queen Mab but I've noticed that the more I apply, the stronger the "green" notes in it stand out. I love Queen Mab for the florals, which feel like a purplish-red color to me. I've started picking up the grassy smell that some noted in their reviews, and it almost kills it for me. (I hate green scents!) Here is what's listed in Queen Mab: black orchid, sandalwood, night-blooming jasmine, osmanthus, Somalian rose, and Chinese musk. I've tried just about every orchid scent that BPAL has to offer, and Queen Mab is the only one I've really loved. I'd like suggestions for a scent that captures the oriental florals of Queen Mab but doesn't tickle my nose with green. If you don't have a suggestion for a scent, maybe you could recommend something to layer with to enhance the florals and mask the green?
  8. Did the reviews for the different rose scents help you? I don't think anyone has tried Egg Nog yet as it's new for this update, but Gingerbread Poppet has many followers from previous Yule orders. I've tried Black Rose, Seraglio, Harlot, Persephone, Othello, Maiden, and Alice as far as rose scents. Alice isn't very rosey but is my favorite. The rose in Persephone is quite strong, and I liked that one a lot.

On base notes, heart notes, top notes

I'll agree with Morrighana -- try to match the stage that you enjoy the most. My favorite perfume used to be BCBGirls Sexy. I loved the way it smelled when it all wore off and I'd have to stick my wrist up to my nose to smell it -- what was left was all basenotes. I used Sexy's basenotes to plan out my first BPAL order and ending up ordering some warm vanilla/incense scents.

What do bottles and labels look like?

    Oooooh, fancy...
  11. Titania could be a good one. I remember liking a candle that smelled like it when I was younger.

What do bottles and labels look like?

Have all LE's had their own special labels? My first LE order is Yule 2004.
  13. The Boyfriend seemed to like Lampades a lot. He's liked all of my BPALs except for the really rosey ones.
  14. Ooh, Pele could be very nice! It's one I wouldn't have thought of before. Alice is good and of course one of my favorites, but it gets very intense on me in a non-girly (so, womanly) way. I like everyone else's suggestions too.
  15. This is going to sound strange, but try Alice if you haven't yet. It turns to something chocolatey after a few hours on me, although I'll admit I haven't tried any BPAL chocolate scents. Try Intrigue, if you can't. It's an amazingly smooth, brown scent. It's not feminine, though, if that's what you like.

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

Is Lampades supposed to sound fancy? Or is it like lamps + lemonade = lampades?

    Scent for Halloween?

I had to work all day, but I ended up wearing Lampades with Dana O'shee on top.

    Scent for Halloween?

Well, I was planning on wearing Queen Mab, but for some reason I'm in the mood for (Old) Morocco. I may try to layer the two...I'd like to smell spicy. I'm not in a floral mood today.

    Decadence

This is nearly perfect on me...nearly! (A million thanks to Lady Ravenglass for letting me try it.) It's this wonderful, spicy orange smell with vanilla and almond in the background. But something is making me feel a bit nauseous -- it might be that the orange is too heavy for my stomach, or maybe it's another citrus, or a liqueur scent I don't recognize. The farther way my wrist is, the less I can smell that queasy note, and the closer to perfect Decadence is. I'll try it on again later to see if it shows up again. This could quite nearly become my signature scent.

    PURPLE!

Umm...[Old] Sybaris is like a bluish royal purple. Bright violet with sweet clove, Mediterranean spice notes and tonka bean.
  22. Alice and Maiden. Alice and Seraglio.
  23. Dana O'shee and Dragon's Milk. Pride and Wolf's Heart.

    Scent for Halloween?

I am going to be a geisha, so I think Queen Mab might be fitting. Dark, but feminine...unless one of my orders comes along and I find something new.

I'd suggest you try Depraved. Depraved A salacious, lecherous, leering scent - dirty and dark, slapped with a wet sweetness. Earthy black patchouli swelling with apricot. (Gender neutral) You may like Tamora, as it's sort of an incensy-fruit smell.
