    Zombi

I love roses, but can't wear sweet smells well. Zombi is the perfect solution. In the bottle the rose is strong, but even those not overly fond of rose should not fear. As it dries it darkens and mellows. It smells like the roses I would dry in my kitchen. There is that slight dry mustiness underlying the fragrance of roses. A little dab will do you though; a little of this oil goes a long way. It wafts beautifully, and all day I was getting whifts that made me wonder what that wonderful smell was. ADDED May 9: So I finally got around to ordering a 5mL of Zombi along with the bottle of Graveyard Dirt. As the two have been discussed so much together I figured I would rereview Zombi. In the bottle this is more earthy than I remembered. This is fairly reminicient of the potting soil in-the-bottle scent you get from GD. It is interesting to note that compared with an older imp of Zombi it is much less floral. Even upon drydown the newer bottle has more of an earthy component, though with both there is more rose once it has a chance to sit on my skin for a little bit. Either way though, I love how this smells like I have been working in the garden. There is the smell of freshly turned over earth and a significant rose component. I love both the smell of earth and roses, so this is a great scent for me.

    Ultraviolet

I thought I would love ultraviolet. I am a huge mint fan and I like eucalyptus. In the bottle there was a balanced blend of scents. On my skin though it turned to violets with a cloying sweetness from the neroli. What happened?! I will try this again and hope it is just a hormonal cycle thing, but I know violet tends to come out pretty strongly on me.

I am in love! The "mint" (or whatever is making the minty smell) dominates at first. True to other reviewers, it did seem to be more of a peppermint than any other mint. The mint was never harsh though; I don't want to give the wrong idea. After dry down it got even softer and creamier, but not fainter at all. There is a sweet creaminess that almost makes me think of vanilla. Between the vanilla and mint I am smelling my poor nose must be very confused, but I am loving it!

    Ravenous

This one was very sweet both in the bottle and on my skin. For reasons unknown to me this smells like an earther more adult version of Siren. Both smell on my skin like SweetTarts. Although Siren is more like the white ones, while Ravenous would be the orange. No they have absolutely no notes in common. They both blended incredibly well until you can't seperate the notes in them though. That and their sweetness is my only possible explanation for the apparent similarity. If you like sweet scents this would definately be one to try.

    Paris

I loved lavender so I was really looking forward to this one. In the bottle it was everything I could ask for, lavender with just a touch of something tantalizing underneath. During dry down it sweetened and then then the cinnamen which seemed a little confusing to my nose. From that point on it was all bubble gum, the pink kind. Looking now it is so interesting that someone else experienced the bubble gum body chemistry thing too. And here I thought my body chemistry was just completely wacky

    Vicomte de Valmont

I got this as a freebie from the lab but don't think that I would have picked it by myself. In the bottle it was everything I hated about the cologne guys used to wear in highschool. I am so sorry! I just have a ton of bad associations with something in this. I tried to wear it anyways just to make sure, although I am nto usually that attracted to masculine scents. Ugh musk. No really *MUSK*. I wish I had read the description before trying it on. My skin really likes musk and tends to over amplify it. I unfortunately am not a fan. I managed not to scrub it off, and after about and hour and a half it became ok, although nothing I would pick even so. None of the notes stuck out in particular, but at least it wasn't musk. I am so sad that I didn't find any of the mints as I love mint. Unfortunately, this one won't be a keeper for me.

    Kathmandu

In the bottle this one was very incensy. During the dry down there was a slight spiceness that I really liked. Once it was dry though there was something about this that made me ravenous. I have no idea what... I don't mean to suggest that it is foody at all; it isn't. After about an hour and a half the slight spiciness was back with an underleing slight sweetness that must be th lotus. I liked this a lot more than I thought I would initially, but I am not sure if I will keep it.

    Siren

I stayed over my mother's the other day and tossed in my bag a bunch of clothes and this imp which I hadn't tried or even opened. In the bottle this was so sweet that I wasn't sure if I wanted to wear it. On my skin it was still sweet but strangely familiar. I knew that I knew that faintly powdery sweet, slightly tart smell. It smelled just like SweetTarts! Disturbingly it randomly coordinated with my outfit: hello kitty socks, floral skirt, plastic headband and mary janes. If I was a "little" then I think this would be perfect. Since I am not I don't think I could wear this on a regular basis, but I will try to pass it on to someone who could. edited for spelling

I love mint. No really... I used to work for Oral-B for a while doing toothpaste. Wet the mint was a beautiful top note. Even after it dried down it made itself present with a freshness that added beautifully with the background aquatics. This smell is so soothing to me. In fact I wore this the day that I got my wisdom teeth pulled to ease my anxiety beforehand. This one will definately be a big bottle.

    Pandora

In the bottle I smell all three notes of gardenia, lotus and just enough mint to be like "what is that?" After reading the description I can pick it out, but before that I couldn't figure it out. In the bottle it confuses my nose, discord indeed! After dry down this became a beautiful sweet soft floral, but I couldn't smell the mint. No wait, what's this pear? Why do I smell pear? I like it, but I think my nose is very confused.

    Hymn

Hymn was a bright white floral. I loved this in the bottle. It smells clean and fresh. It also smells professional to me, like something my mom used to wear when she would wear her business suits to work. I think that is just an association for me rather than something intrinsic to the smell itself. During dry down it was light and beautiful, not overwhelming at all. Once on my skin for a little while though the frankincense took over with a passion. Stupid body chemistry! I need to stop trying to wear scents with frankincense!

    Hellcat

I love almond and halzelnut. I really thought that I would like this. When I first opened the imp I never even got near my nose before I was trying to get away from it, promptly decided it needed immidiate swapping. A few days later I suffered from imp regret and decided to give it another chance. Got my nose a little closer but the buttercream and rum are so strong as to turn my stomach a little. This is a strong scent as my roommate would say. My mother and sister had the same reaction, but my sister's boyfriend was intrigued. This morning I felt I hadn't been fair not to try this one on before trading it away so I wore some (the tiniest little drop I could manage). After about an hour the buttercream went rancid. I seriously considered scrubbing it off at this point, but didn't have anywhere that I could. By the time I got to school (about 2.5 hours later) it had settled into a nuttiness but with a strong rum undercurrent still and slowly fadedover the course of the next 9 hours or so. I never did find any almond once it was on me, although I kept looking for it. This one has lasting power on me. It is unfortunate that I don't like it more.

    Blood Rose

I opened the package with just this imp inside and was assaulted by the rose and wine. Whew! Wonder what the mailman thought. You could definately smell it through the package. On my skin the fruitness of the rose rounded out. Dark purple and moist, the wine was not boozy as I had feared. Quite the opposite it was more like grapes than wine. In fact within a few minutes it had turned to grape dimetapp. Where did that beautiful rose go? It did return a few hours later, but I can't get past the cough suppressant stage to wear on a regular basis.

    Hemlock

I got this one in a swap because I am searching for the perfect green scent. In the bottle this was nice, a cool green smell. It reminds me of hiking with friends in Acadia, not only do you get the not overwhelming pine scent around you but other bits of greenery in the wooded areas we walk through. This forest isn't entirely shady, rather it is dappled with many small areas of filtered light from above. Then I put it on my skin... vicks vapor rub Stupid stupid body chemistry. Hopefully this will find a home where it will be loved just as much but will wear better.

    Alecto

In the bottle I could smell the cedar but it still had a significant "greenness" so I was still hopeful that I had found a good "leafy" scent. The dry down smelled fairly harsh on my skin but mellowed to a more intriging subtle leafy smell where the cedar does not dominate but rather adds a little more depth. I really liked this one but found it faint on my skin. For subtleness I like this, but I think I would have to reapply this too often to be plausible (every 2-2.5 hours or so).

    Maiden

I am so sad that I didn't get any rose. For me Maiden was all white tea and carnation, but mostly carnation. It was soft, gentle and demure at first. Somehow I was not prepared for how *white* this would be. After dry down it got a little drier and spicier, not in an incensy or spices way, but rather like Queen Anne's lace.

    Queen Gertrude

I think it is the violet that makes this so familiar. A little part of my brain keeps saying "I know this smell." I haven't figured out from where exactly. It is a cool pale blue lilac sort of fragrance. On the bus this morning I found myself half meditating about mist: cool, damped, unrushed and delicate. This is truly elegant, yet powerful. I accidently grabbed this the other morning thinking to pick up Queen Mab. Whew not what I was expecting at all! I am so pleased that I did though. Many oils get sucked up right into my skin completely within an hour or two. Queen Gertude not only is not disappearing, if anything bloomed on my skin staying with me all day.

    Arcana

My first review! In the bottle: Very green and herby, if I close my eyes and concentrate then I can identify the rosemary and lavender as the most promenent notes. The rest are blended so much into an herby background that I can't really distinguish them. Wet: There is a spike of rosemary that makes this almost sharp in its herby pungentness as it touches my skin. After a few minutes on skin: There is a breath of lemon verbana that peeks its head through as the rosemary subsides a little bit. The frankincense brings out an incense-like quality that my roommate identifies as "hole in the wall chinatown shop smell". I am not crazy about incensy smells so this stage is not that pleasant for me, although I could see how it might appeal to others. After first hour: The frankincense has really taken over at this point. It definately seems richer than it did at the beginning. I love the richness and smell underneath it, but the incense has taken over. My boyfriend at this point says I "smell like church". After two and a half hours: The rosemary is making more of an appearance than at any other point after being applied so far. The combination of frankincense and rosemary makes me think of an incense shop full of dried herbs hanging from the rafters. I almost like this stage because of the imagery it evokes. I can definately see this as "arcana". Unfortunately it does almost too good a job though, because it leaves me feeling like I have to sneeze from the driness. After 5 hours: The major note left is a sweet creamy scent that I think is the neroli. It is faint and I can only smell it if I smell my wrist, but I love it. Final Verdict: I can't get past the frankincense. This seems to be more prominent on my skin then for other people so this may just be a body chemistry issue. I think this was lovely and interesting in the bottle, so I might try it with a scent locket next .
