  1. Hey guys, we all love that you're reporting topics, but please PLEASE wait at least 24 hours if you've reported a topic for moderatiing action (merging, closing, etc) before reporting it a second time. If you've reported something on the weekend, please wait until Monday evening (unless it's a 3-day weekend) before reporting it again.

While we do have over a dozen mods, many of them are students or work full-time, and even with two mods in most areas, reports cannot be answered immediately sometimes.

Happy Columus Day to the 'Mericans, and happy Thanksgiving to the Canadians.

  2. Let me say it again: the forum code that made sure you complied to our signature restrictions is still broken. This means that you are responsible for ensuring that your signature meets the guidelines.

So how can I tell if the image is too large? I don't know how to find out how many pixels it is.

    voodoo-doll.png

If you open the image in your browser, right click on it and select "properties". Some browsers (like IE for windows) lists the dimensions as "Dimensions: (width) x (height)". Others (like firefox) list the dimensions separately (with "Width:" and "Height"). Both ways, they list it in terms of pixels. So, if you do that to tbat image, you'll see that it should be 75pixels wide and 100 pixels tall.

There's also a listing for size. For the most part, this will only a problem if an image is wildly animated with lots and lots of frames. The size of the image is 15702 bytes (or 15.33 KB).

  3. Discontinued scents are capped according to their catalog (or former catalog) category. So, single notes hit the single note price cap, celestials and astrological oils hit the catalog price cap, voodoo blends hit the catalog price cap, etc.

Unreleased scents are capped at catalog prices.

As before, if you bought something for a value higher than the cap, please talk to shriekingviolet or myself before listing it, but be prepared that you may be asked to demonstrate it (giving the ebay link & sending a question from your ebay account, forwarding a paypal transaction, etc).

See this announcement for exact numbers and a few examples.

  4. We have found a major bug with Just Ask Alice -- people using the skin are currently unable to read topics or PMs (though they can start new topics & write PMs). Until we are able to fix it, everyone who was on Just Ask Alice has been moved to the IPB 2.1 Default skin and the skin has been deactivated (so you shouldn't be able to switch to it).

I do not know if this problem exists for the other skins (Dark Devil or Mata Hari). Please do not PM us about the problem for the Alice skin s we are aware of it and working on fixing it and bringing back the skin. Do, however, PM if you've got the problem for Dark Devil or Mata Hari :P

  5. Nested quoting has been turned back on.

If nested quoting is gratitously used, individuals may be warned. We do NOT want to see something like the incident that caused us to turn them off (where there were 5+ quotes nested just because).

The Fourm Etiquette FAQ talks a bit about using quotes, and discussion about it can be done there. For your convenience, the portion regarding nested quotes is below:

[in]Nesting quotes: so good, yet so bad. It really goes back to the previous statement on using an entire quote when you're only discussing part of it -- sure, if Peter want to address something Jill said (and quoted Jack), that's one thing. But it's not good to do it just because the quote appears there by default - it wastes the time of the people reading it and it wastes forum resources AND bandwidth. So please, only have nested quotes where it's relevant.

    So, good nested quotes:

The price of gas in LA is soooooooo cheap!
    No it's not! It's nearly $3.50!
The price of gas in Paris, where Jack and I live, is $8/gallon - and I think I'd kill to only have to pay $3/gallon!

    Bad nested quotes:

The price of gas in LA is soooooooo cheap!
No it's not! it's nearly $3.50/gallon! Where the hell are you shopping?!

Thank god for my hybrid car - I get 50mpg, so ithe price of gas isn't as nearly as bad as it would have been if I had bought the SUV I'd been considering.

what kind of hybrid do you have? i've been thinking about buying one!

    Bad nested quotes turned good:

Thank god for my hybrid car - I get 50mpg, so ithe price of gas isn't as nearly as bad as it would have been if I had bought the SUV I'd been considering.
what kind of hybrid do you have? i've been thinking about buying one!

(PMs are another story, though - unlike quoted posts, which have the snapback link so you could go back to read the original post with just a click or you could use the topic search function at the bottom of each topic page, you have to manually search through your PMs to find the previous one, assuming that you saved it!)

  6. Fundraisers are great things, they really are. I love how warm and caring this forum is. But, I fear that it may make us vunerable to predators and people who twist or stretch the truth for a few extra bucks - especially when the recipient isn't (for instance) a charity but a "friend of a friend of a friend" of a forumite.

As a result, we do request that before starting a fundraising thread or post, you get in contact with us first to get permission. And when I say request, I mean "moderators are allowed to make any fundraising thread or post not previously approved disappear" - so it's not so much a request as a requirement.

Even if it's an absolute emergency, there is usually someplace that can be turned to in the interim (legal aid, advocates, shelters, the Salvation Army, food banks, churches, etc. will usually help try to get someone out of a bad situation with legal advice, support, shelter, clothing, food, medical attention, and so forth).

I hate to do this, but better to be a little cautious than to have our warmhearted members get jaded by a variety of scams, yes?

  7. A pain-tinged, pleasure-soaked blend of leather, oakmoss, orange blossom, amber, and rose with a breath of virginal French florals and a hint of austere monastic penitential incense.

at first sniff, it's all about the leather and orange blossom. wait a bit, and the other flowers come out to play. it smells surprisingly masculine in the bottle.

on my skin, wet, it's all orange and amber and leather. as it dries, the flowers blossom and push back the leather into the background, and then BAM the incense and leather get into a screaming match.

after awhile, they eventually get bored and tone down and it's gorgeous - the orange blossom is barely a whisper, and leather and incense back down (though still definitely there).

i think it'd be drop dead sexy on a guy.

  8. i loooooooove safari. as grrrlennyl said, it's a sweet lavender. definitely keeping you awake and calm. it's PERFECT for having in a car oil diffuser on long trips - and after doing route 66 (roughly) in three days, i should know :P

  9. John Dee: master of science, alchemy and magic, Hermetic philosopher in the schools of Rosicrucian Christian Mysticism and Platonic-Pythagorean doctrine, and Queen Elizabeth’s astrologer, advisor, cryptologist and spy. With Edward Kelly, he created a field of study and work in Angelic Evocation, and isolated the Angelic language: Enochian. His scent is soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods.

first off, i've got to say that leather, rosewood, and tonka are three of my favorite notes, and many of the scents i adore have hints of incense or woods in them. so it should be no surprise that i absolutely ADORE this blend

in the bottle, it's all about the leather and incense. once it hits my skin and starts to dry, it blooms. the rosewood and tonka whip the leather and incense back, and it's absolutely lovely.

it's definitely one of my new favorites :P

  10. If, in the time between order placement and order shipment, you need to update or change your address (moving, sending to work instead of home, vice versa), email answers@blackphoenixalchemylab.com for BPAL orders (or tradingpost@papow.net for BPTP orders) and let them know:

    * order method/date/any relevent identifying information (ccnow - order #, paypal - primary email address & transaction #)

    * when they should switch addresses

    * where to send the package

If you know you are moving on a certain date, but don't necessarily know where you will be moving to, please let them know as they DO mark orders that need to refer to new addresses (though if you forget to follow up with your new address, it may be lost in the ether)

    Example:

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to be moving pretty soon. I currently have the following outstanding orders:

    * CCNow - 4/21 - Order #12345

    * Paypal - 5/01 - email@address.com - tnx #a21ad42c

    My mailing addresses are:

    > Today until May 19th:

    (current address)

    > May 20th through June 21st:

    (interim address)

    > After June 21st:

    Unknown, will follow up

Keep in mind that if you do follow up, to include the original email and any responses from customer service, for their reference :P

  11. on the dry down, it somewhat reminds me of kingsport. alas, i am not a fan of kingsport, and not a fan of bed of nails.

it's very aquatic and ozoney, and the wood didn't really speak out on me either. what did speak out was a big ol I AM MAN I AM MAN *chest thump* so i wouldn't be surprised to see the men of the forum liking this.
