  1. let me preface my review with the reason behind its purchase: i'd been considering it for awhile, because i was a grad student and in an LDR (still in a LDR, for now). stress? ha! when am i not stressed? anyways, so i had been considering it as a purchase. then, towards the end of the semester, i had this wonderful dream where i had a massage with a massage oil scented with white light -- where the massage lasted until all the stress had been worked out of my body and i was utterly boneless and completely covered in the massage oil (which quickly sank in my skin, leaving me smooth and scented). (and then, because i'm sex deprived, i then had slow hot sex with the guy, but i digress...)

anyways, after smelling the massage oil in my dream and having a dream featuring it, i *had* to get it. no choice, really. can the message get any clearer? i think not!

in the bottle, this was a spicy creamy scent, but not "in your face" spicy like, oh, uranus or three witches. soothingly spicy, which sounds like it's an oxymoron but trust me, it's not. EXACTLY how the massage oil in my dream smelled.

on my skin, when it dries, it smells like the part of his shoulder my head ends up when we're spooning and about to go to sleep. light, airy. quieting in a non-sleepy way, kinda like that driving zone is good for quieting your head. and i'm definitely not as irritated about this thing or that as i normally would be... finding those things amusing instead.

there aren't many scents that i wear and go immediately to *adore* but this is definitely one of them.

eta: oddly, that night, i woke up around 3am with some wierd reflux thing and could taste the bile. but i've felt great since, despite being otr!

  2. Tomorrow, there is going to be some downtime. We are going to upgrade to the newest release of the IPB code, re-mod it, and possibly add a new mod or two depending on how it all goes. So if you've got good techy vibes, aim 'em towards Oklahoma tomorrow!

    ---

Obviously, the boards are back up. Yay!

  3. We've decided to better enable you, we needed to rearrange that whole area.

+ Retail Therapy -- general shopping discourse

    |

    |--- Fashion & Makeup -- just fashion & make up fo' real now

    |

    |--- The Bathing Beauty -- bathing-related stuff

I've moved a few threads around, but I'm on dialup tonight and a phone card, and need to hit the sack, so don't get upset if this thread was moved but that one wasn't. Feel free to report threads to be moved, but if you want to be nice, wait a few days first.

  4. With the influx of meet-up gatherings happening, we decided it was time to give them their own subforum within BPAL Chatter. Like "get personal," this subforum is hidden to the general public (to avoid caching by the search bots) BUT we would like to emphasize that we don't have any controls about who can join the forums, so take whatever cautions you would if they were posted in a more public forum.

For those that were wondering, this makes forum/subforum #65.

  5. A comprehensive (but not exclusive) guide to the changes your BPAL may go through. Links to specific discussions below.

  6. The banners produced by sloganizer break our 480px-wide image restristrictions. Those that have been using them have been contacted and warnings will not be issued at this time.

However, any future use may be removed from your signatures by the moderating team, and you may be warned.

Also, please remember that the 480-px image width holds for consecutive images that are not separated by a space as some browsers will treat them as one giant image.

    Thanks!

  7. Primarily for the Entertainment section (due to the quantity of potential spoilers in book/movie discussions), there's now a spoiler tag (namely sp).

    [sp]Text to hide[/sp]

is how you do it, and it looks like this when used:

    Spoiler
    Text to hide

To read the text, just highlight it.

Now, enjoy and don't feel guilty about talking about xxx aspect of Star Wars 3 Thursday 'cause it won't be ruined for those that haven't seen it unless they ~want~ to read the spoilers :P

  8. The FAQ about member treatment applies to the moderators as well as everyone else. If you feel a moderator is harassing you, bring it up to another moderator, shriekingviolet, or myself. When you bring it up, include specific examples (eg, forward the PMs AND the message url from the PM box page - eg, http://www.bpal.org/index.php?act=Msg&CODE...in&MSID=124424).

Harassment is a serious charge, and corroboration from the database is necessary before any action will be taken, so don't delete PMs that you report to us until we've let you known we've seen it. The action taken will depend on the situation and any history between the individuals.

Spreading vague rumors that someone is being harassed by the mod is NOT appreciated. If you hear that someone is being harassed - by a mod or otherwise - COME TO SOMEONE ON THE MODSQUAD [other than the lab personnel]. Even if you hate us all, we can't do anything if we are unaware that something (intended as harassment or otherwise) is happening.

  9. i would say that "all orders ... are currently taking an excess of 21 - 45 business days to process" does cover that.

part of the reason for the extra time is that the lab has to go to the post office to take care of the customs forms and get them stamped and what not, whereas with domestic orders, the carrier can pick them up.

  10. i'm really big on camping. not the kind of camping that involves RVs and toilets and electricity, but the kind that involves a tent in the middle of a forest and campfires - by necessity - and peeing in the bushes or in a toilet/shower building far, far from the site. must be all those days of primitive camping in girl scouts!

anyways. this reminds me of camping, with the campfire blazing under the stars, smoke getting in your eyes as stories are told, marshmallows are roasting, the slighty sweaty skin, and the smell of nature is all around. (er, without the marshmallows...that was more for the whole memory thing)

it stays pretty much the same in the bottle as on me, at least initially.

    a HUGE hit :P

  11. Mental, physical and spiritual purification.

i was playing with some lemongrass in the kitchen a week or so ago, and that's the first thing i smell when i open the bottle. it smells a little similiar to quietude, but where that was more lush, there's a sharpness to this that develops as it dries, as well as something that smells kind of like fresh gingerroot. it's also a very beautiful blend, though i think i prefer the quietude.

  12. A bombardment of edible carnival indulgences. Funnel cake, caramel apple, cotton candy, salt water taffy and sugar tart.

    close your eyes

    it's august.
you're at the state fair, in the middle of the midway.
take a big wiff, and that's midway.

  13. Peace, serenity, tranquility, silence.

i'm not sure what's in here, but when wet, it smells kind of lemony without being *lemon* (if that makes sense). there's a hit of dryness as it, er, dries. it didn't morph much from bottle to dry, though.

very peaceful and tranquil. i wish i could do it justice, but i'm not. it's utterly gorgeous, though, and i love it.

  14. it doesn't remind me of rootbeer, but it's definitely spicy and musky. i don't know the spice off the top of my head, but it's not fennel/anise, or at least the kind i cook with. it's a familiar smell, though. i may beg a decant off of someone, but i don't love it enough to buy a full bottle.

  15. myrrh! yum! there's definitely some incensey-wood action going on, with some florals. and like clover, they get a little soapy, so i wouldn't be surprised if there was lily. but mostly, i smell the myrrh. and maybe some musk? it's really light, though.

  16. Beth is out of town with Convergence 11, so she asked me to do the lunacy update.

    + A LITTLE LUNACY

FLOWER AND MILK MOONS -- May marks the apex of the year’s fertility, expresses the reawakening of the sexuality of the Earth and her inhabitants, and May’s full moon celebrates both the fecundity of the creatures and flora of this world and the vibrancy, rejuvenation and life-affirming energy of Spring. Flower Moon embodies the unrestrained bliss, energy and color of the season: a bouquet of vivid, sexy blooms… tulip, daffodil, violet, dewdrop, rhododendron, iris, daisy, and a mix of California wildflowers. Milk Moon is its warmer, gentler cousin; it is a scent that emulates the closeness of child and mother. In it, cream and warm honey soften our traditional blend of lunar oils.

Enjoy the extra bonus moon! :P

  17. you have to click the "advanced mode" link underneath the "search!" button and go down to the "scent availability" option and change it to either be "does not include" with "current scents" OR "includes only" with "discontinued scents". as well, it'd help to change the category to "includes only" with "single notes".
