  1. Man, the lab's rose based scents are so strangely hit or miss on me. I find it strange because if there is rose in anything I am usually in love. But not with this one AT ALL.

wet - cheap rose hand soap. Like something that you would buy in the grocery and have at your kitchen sink. There is also a slight spicy floral that feels like carnation witha touch of greenery.

dry - ok, I get the award for the most stupid visual to accompany a scent. A plastic cupie doll. That's exactly what this is like on me dry. Go figure.

    Swap-o-rama

  2. fab, fab, fab!!!

The most gorgeous of roses and resin (is this myrrh or frankincense?) I am hoping that it is myrrh because then I will be completely sure that myrrh and I are destined to be together.

This one is just plain beautiful and it is a wonderful and unusual twist on a rose doninated scent.

So glad I have a bottle of this one. Now I just need to find a back-up...

  3. just plain odd.

Wet - heavy, overpowering powder with black pepper

Dry - this one morphs quite a bit. The initial drydown keeps the heavy powder and the black pepper but adds a bit of green-ness - almost like green peppercorns. Then a bit later I get this strange herbal scent over the top of what feels like a wet brown corregated box.

SO I guess that means that this is one for the swap pile.

  4. A classic Victorian men’s cologne: a lavender fougere, with hints of lilac, lime, and citrus musk.

Once again I should trust my instincts...

Wet - lavender, and a soapy lavender at that

Dry - over the years I have grown to loathe lavender and I am not quite sure why. Maybe it is because it turns into shaving cream on me? And that's what this one turns into - men's shaving cream. I would love to try this out on the DH but I dislike it so much on me that I think I would have a hard time smelling it on him with a clean slate.

    Swap-o-rama on this.

  5. OK - I am now convinced that foody scents and I DO NOT get along.

Wet - all melon and banana

Dry - this one doesn't change much from its wet smell.

Way too sweet and foody. Last thing I want to smell like is a fruit salad.

  6. I had such high hopes for this one for some reason.

    Bah - no go

Wet - wood, pepper and a bit of the lily

Dry - I could swear there is frankincense in here as my chemistry hates it and turns this into an eccesiastical/cheap head shop smelling scent - which I DO NOT dig.

    Bummer

  7. I am in love...

Wet - just like everyone else I get wacked in the head with some of the strongest grapefruit EVER. I also get a tea scent - but on me it is more of a white tea than a black one.

Dry - this just gets better and better. The grapefruit slides down and the cherry blossom (sakura - for those of you who want the Japanese name) comes up mixing PERFECTLY with the citrus notes.

    I could bathe in this!

Definitely one for the Top 10!

  8. ok - what is the heavy masculine note that turns to shaving cream on me!!!!!

wet - heavy musk and wood

dry - shaving cream - and a cheap one at that. My chemistry makes this way too manly!

  9. I was convinced this was going to be a winner. Alas...

    wet - white cold water

dry - the water turns icy and then this pear jumps out turning the aquatic very sweet.

This fades way too fast on my skin. If it stayed the wet smell I would be in love - but dry - no.

Oh well, not like there aren't what - a billion other BPAL scents to try!

  10. Wet - grapefruit and cold water

Dry - this one smells like Springtime - a watery pastel. This is what my mind thinks hydrangeas should smell like. Eventhough the silly flowers don't smell like anything. This is how I WANT them to smell.

  11. I am still on the fence with this one.

    Wet - vanilla bubblegum

Dry - I think this one would be great for anyone that likes sweet foodie scents. It is oddly comforting to me but I am not convinced that this is a scent that I would wear. It is just too sweet to be on my body.

Maybe as a room scent when I need a lift.

I have tried it twice now and I still can't decide one way or the other.

  12. Gummy.

Wet - gummy cinnamon, vanilla and dragon's blood

Dry - I am surprised that the dragon's blood couldn't save this one for me. It is very syrupy and sweet - almost nauseating. I also get the mulled wine and the juniper.

All in all - not for me.

Ugh - and I have a bottle of this one.

  13. I'm not fond of this one.

Wet - Lavender with almost no throw at all.

Dry - still lavender with something that is sicky sweet. And then there's the crazyglue smell. What the hell is that? It must have something to do with the ozone - but I have never had an ozone note react like this.

    ICK

  14. This is a heavy one!

    Wet - TUBEROSE!!!!!! and jasmine

Dry - I amp tuberose. And although I love it in conjunction with with notes, in this case it just grabs the reins and will not let go. I get a very powdery rose, the wee-est bit of frangipani (which is a big bummer because I love that one) and lots of jasmine.

I really tried to like this one but alas - off to the swap pile.

  15. Wow - I really dig this one. Just gorgeous.

Evidently my chemistry loves dragon's blood. Every one of the Ars Drac that I have tried have been fab. Woo Hoo!!!

I am not even going to try to figure this one out. It is VERY warm! The white sandalwood (which I am surprised didn't go nasty on me) and the blondwood are fantastic.

    Big bottle please!!!

  16. this is rose. Full stop.

    wet - dry rose

    dry - dry rose

I can get nothing else here but a true, what I consider to be a "dry" rose. I have some absolutely gorgeous Thai incense that are called Summer Damask Rose and this is exactly what it smells like.

There are other rose BPAL scents that I like much better but if you are looking for something that is about as rose as rose is gonna get - this one's for you.

  17. this is another one for the curious yet compelling pile.

Wet - its all about the grapefruit and nothing but the grapefruit

Dry - it's still about the grapefruit with something spicy trying to claw its way up to the top. And there is also a faint whiff of plain white candlewax.

Definitely not a "must have" but I think I will keep the imp around and try this again.

  18. this is a strange one indeed.

Wet - aloe and light musk

Dry - this smells like an ointment similar to Neosporin or some such cream/gel like that. - with a hint of bandaids. Where is this medical-hospital smell coming from? What is the note that is doing this. Could it be the sage? I know its not the musk or the tonka.

The most peculiar thing about this one on me is that I find it oddly compelling. What's up with that.

Maybe its because I was PMS-ing at the time I tried it. I think I will have to give this one another go to really give it a fair shot.

  19. Ok - the rose and violet are fickle flowers.

Wet - berries and more berries with a tinge of wine and leather. This is very sweet - and on me almost foody.

Dry - It's still very berry and slightly wine-ish and I can only smell the leather now if I smash my nose into my skin. I also get a teeny tiny whiff of citrus. But the rose and violet are NOWHERE to be found. This one also remained very sweet after the dry-down.

I am very confused because I usually do very well with anything rose or violet.

    swap-o-rama on this one.

  20. I think it is pretty safe to say that Carnation and I don't get along. The bitch takes control and will not release the kung-fu grip.

Wet - very peppery carnation with a hint of rose.

Dry - there is a battle going on here between the carnation and the rose. They keep alternating dominance. But alas the carnation wins out in the end. By knockout.

In the end the carnation was so strong that it made my sinus headache unbearable.

In the swap pile this goes. And I had such high hopes...

  21. ok - I'm getting a bit closer to finding my deep bloody rose...

Since I amp rose like there is no tomorrow in about 90% of the blends I was not at all surprised that this one was going to be good.

Wet - it's all about the roses man! There is just a vague hint of leather.

Dry - it's still all about the dozens and dozens of true, huge red roses coming off my skin. But where's the leather?????? I WANT THE LEATHER!!!

This is a gorgeous scent even if it isn't as demonic (the kind of rend your garments scent) as I wanted it to be.

It's a keeper for the heavy rose pile!

  22. ick.

I am definitely not a foody scent person (with the exception of anything that smells like creme brulee) so this one was really awful for me.

Wet and dry this was a sweet bakery scent with whiffs of yeast and something sour that I cannot place.

I couldn't get it off my wrist fast enough.

  23. this is very strange - this is the second scent I have tried today that has had an expensive commercial perfume feel to it.

Wet - this is a sharp, bitter rose - but that goes away rather quickly.

Dry - my goodness this is a morpher! Everytime I smell my wrist it is a different version of fresh or wet new rose - which is very cool!

When this first dried down all I could think of was the big bottle of the limited edition Yves Saint Laurent Paris Roses de Vergers that is sitting in my bedroom. I am a total sucker for anything rose and between the YSL and Annick Goutal Ce Soir Ou Jamais I think I have the "green" rose covered.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great scent for those who are rose whores like myself, but I find that because I am quite fond of the two commercials mentioned above because they were the first ones that fit the "greener" bill for me and I love then to death. And I cannot justify another one similar the two I have.

    This is a beauty though!

I am still on the quest for the deep, bloody red, heavy, almost comatose rose scent...
