    Scent for Halloween?

You are officially awesome. I assume you sing, from the various implications of the scents? What did you sing on your recital? (Please tell me you sang ,,Der Hölle Rache"... that would make my day.)

    Scent for Halloween?

I wish Litha '09 hadn't broken my heart or I'd be wearing her today! However, I will be wearing St. John's Eve on Thursday

    Coyote

Coyote is one I've meant to try for years but never gotten around to---so when Michi and I recently were exploring each others' collections, I tried a dab of it, and fell instantly in love. It almost has a rosey smell to me, but not like a rose proper---more smoky, like rosewood, or rose incense. I can smell the doeskin and grass and a fire far in the distance. The amber is very dry and not powdery, and the scent melds with my own skin-scent beautifully. I am in LOVE with this scent, have already tracked down an aged half-bottle and ordered another bottle from the Lab. I know this is one I'm going to have to stockpile---if it were ever discontinued, I would be heartbroken.

    Osiris v4

I put Osiris v4 on and shouted "FLAN!" and my cat looked at me with an expression that said All humans are idiots There's a certain creamy coolness in here that makes me think of a chilled flan, but it's definitely not foody in any sense. Also definitely some amber, but the least powdery, most skin-scent amber I've ever smelled---maybe amber musk? Woods, yes, I don't know about teak specifically but there is a woody base to this... maybe not woody, maybe a bit sandy. A little spicy, but definitely not cinnamon or cassia, though it does remind me just a touch of Morocco---there's a similar spices-combining-to-smell-creamy-instead-of-harsh feel. I dislike Glowing Vulva intensely (wrong kind of cream, too much dry wood, stupid lotus flower, etc.) but I can agree that it's like what I wanted GV to smell like... except better. It's very present but not cloying (I dabbed it on the back of one hand and mushed that hand into the other, and I can smell it from about six inches away, and need to do a full skin test), sweet but not foody, woody but not masculine, spicy but not sharp. It's basically the perfect balance of scents. I was gushing about it to my boyfriend just now and in my babble I described it as "ocean sand, sun-warmed skin, a trace of expensive sunscreen and a small, cold plate of flan." He loved the sound of it, so I think that's what I'm sticking to.

    Rogue

Absolutely gorgeous and softly sexy---equal parts soft, paper-thin vintage leather jacket and manly hemp scent (perhaps a natural shampoo/body wash, or non-perfumey aftershave). Smells like a really beautiful, uncomplicated man---a natural skin scent more than a cologne in any way---but is totally wearable by a woman. After about an hour or so, this smells identical to Haunt's blend Winchester on me, the hemp mimicking the dust note in Winchester. If you like Winchester, or you wanted to try it but never got to, give Rogue a try. I think you'll love him.

    Scent for Halloween?

I let my sister pick my scents for the day (she has a super-sensitive nose and I knew we'd be passed out on the couch together for most of the day for our annual whatever-TV-show-we-get-on-DVD Christmas marathon), and she chose Arcana's Morphine for day, then made me put on Pacifica Mexican Cocoa for night. Yes, she is a foody, and managed to dig out the only two foody scents I own. Feels odd to have gone an entire day without wearing BPAL!

    Scent for Halloween?

Today was a bit of a scent trial day, and to Thanksgiving dinner I ended up wearing smushes of the Infernal Lover, the Grindhouse, Trick #1, a friend's Snake Oil Chaos Theory, VILF, and Elephantine Colossus. That's right. It was Red Musk Test Day. Because it's shark week and I couldn't figure out which one I wanted to wear the most
  8. eoifemacbeth

    Red Musk

Everyone's said everything I'd say except for Elephantine Colossus. I'm so obsessed with finding a bottle of this it's not even funny. It's lush and smoldering and foody and throw-someone-up-against-the-wall sexy and playful all at once. The Solider is also amazing---possibly my favorite Yule thus far. Starts out all pie, ends all red musk and leather. Omnomnom. (And yeah, every red musk lover needs to try the Infernal Lover. Just ridiculously amazing.)

    Leather

You know, now that you mention it, I definitely think I got some vetiver out of Tombeur---which was probably why I loved it! I'll have to retry it when I get a minute. VILF as well, I think.

    Leather

Question: if one is massively in love with the leather in Clockwork Couture: Female, where could one find a similar leather? It's only the second non-chemically leather I've yet found (Dead Man's Hand, of course, being the other, damn my luck!) and I just love it. I've heard a lot of people say Liz has the same leather, but Liz sort of made me gag. The vanilla note she's got just rubbed my nose totally the wrong way.

Down the Rabbit Hole Atmosphere Spray

I absolutely LOVE this mental image---it's exactly the mental picture I get as well! Seriously, if you don't have Down the Rabbit Hole and you like the Lab's dirt note, you need it. It was generously gifted to me by a fabulous forum friend who knows I love dirt and I could not be happier with it. It's like therapy for me---sunshiney happiness in a bottle. Trampled flowers, wet earth, and sweet tangy marmalade---a top 5 scent for me, most definitely. My car smells like it, my room smells like it... I wish I had this in perfume oil form, in shampoo, in conditioner, in lotion, in clothes detergent and shower gel. I love it that much.

    '80s Prom Scent?

Hijack --- this thread is so fascinating to read, since I was born in August of 1989 and I'm pretty much just jealous I missed out on the '80s. You should post pictures after the party, and tell us what scent you wore!

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

You know, now that you mention it, they are pretty similar. Morocco is a little thicker, sweeter, creamier, and Hod's slightly more peppery-spicy and it's got a honey thing that Morocco lacks, but from what I've smelled of both they are quite similar. Another similar oil (to me) would be Alice. She has a fresh bergamot note that may amp on you and hide the similarity, but the carnation and creamy notes are almost dead-on to me.

    Scent for Halloween?

I wore Quick Grope Under the Mistletoe for Christmas (and felt like crap so slept most of the day away anyway). Wore Snake Oil on NYE and got a bunch of compliments, then didn't wear anything on NYD because I was far too hungover

    Scent for Halloween?

On this year's Turkey Day (or, more accurately in my household, Tofurkey Day ) I am wearing Daya. And I am LOVING it.
  16. eoifemacbeth

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

I don't rub because I've had scents start to smell burned on me when I do. I put the mouth of the bottle sealed over a wrist, flip it over, then dab firmly to the other wrist, insides of elbows, and neck, flipping the bottle over again as needed.

So you're devastated about Antique Lace...

Well, suggestions and recommendations are always YMMV. I can't distinguish between Morocco and Antique Lace, but my friend swears they smell completely different to her. I say, if you haven't tried it and it's on that list, try it! You may be surprised
  18. Ohhhh, how I LOLed Snake Charmer works well on me too; so does Devil's Night. I haven't found a surefire makes-men-jump-me scent, but I promise I will be squeeing it all over the forum when I do
  19. I've found a couple of new dirt loves in the past couple of updates, namely The Fool (like a wet herb garden in Ireland) and The Season of Inundation (slushy, cold wet dirt and resins). If you're a dirt whore like me, these are must-haves. Thanks for the tip on Yorick, Apple---for some reason that one totally escaped my attention! I've gotta grab an imp and see how it compares to my HG, original Graveyard Dirt. The new GD is almost as good but I think it needs some aging to become slightly less dusty and more dirty and earthy and wet and mmmmm.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Just so y'all know---I understand it's more like "ultra rare for less rare past LE," but on me, the drydowns of Queen of Clubs and Haunted Palace are shockingly similar. I think if I layered HP with some Graveyard Dirt (or Zombi might work really well too), it'd be nearly perfect. Of course, you have to like blood orange and red musk. So there's that. Just my $0.02

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

I think I finally found my perfect vanilla, and it is Hellhound on my Trail. I just have to confirm that when my bottle gets here... if a teeny skin-test (thanks naeelah!) was that amazing, I can't wait to slather. And to be off-topic, oh my god, Hellhound layered with St. John's Eve? ...*dies* Other than that, Snake Oil and Snake Charmer (periodically together) are my perfect vanillas, especially Snake Oil about five hours into the drydown (i.e. right now.... nomnomnom). I'm also a huge fan of White Rose's vanilla tea; it's even better than the vanilla tea in Dorian, IMHO.

    Red Rose

Finally got around to testing the bottle I've had chilling in my bottle box for almost two months now. In the bottle: OHGODFIR. Why did you all entice me with your descriptions of clove and Indian musk? Dirty rotten liars, all of you. Wet on my skin: FIRFIRFIRFIRFIR. Oh, man. I'm going to be really pissed if this turns into a pine party. Drying: I smell a little tobacco and maybe a LITTLE clove if I imagine it really hard, but mostly it's fir and rose. It's also a little choking---there's SO MUCH fir, and that's a note I really don't like. I'm really, really hoping the clove and musk come out more on the drydown... as it dries, sure enough, there's definitely more clove, trying really hard to balance out the fir. It's kind of failing, but I appreciate the gesture. Dry: Yeah, not for me. There's rose and clove and musk, but the fir is so huge it's making me ill. Swap. Verdict: If I could find the exact same scent without fir, I think I'd love it. As it is, it's too strongly piney for me. Sad.

Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self Similarity v4

CXCIX (probably---the I is the only letter I'm unsure about) In the bottle: Straight up Snake Oil. Wet on my skin: The odd musty note that Snake Oil does on my skin new is blooming in full force---kind of like Band-Aids. Other notes are really beating it back, though---I'm liking this far more than I like new Snake Oil. Drying: I'm getting something... almost... floral? Maybe not floral, but it's very familiar to my nose. I took my arm over to my mother and asked her what it reminded her of, and she said she'd definitely smelled it before too. We concurred it might be vanilla flower. Dry: This is so interesting! It went through stages of smelling very fresh and almost tropical---I hesitate to say coconut milk might be involved?---and stages of smelling like a very distinguished classic fragrance, very much how Black Opal smelled on me. Verdict: Snake Oil with vanilla flower, coconut milk and (maybe?) white musk. CCXXIII In the bottle: Very odd, but pleasing---like Snake Oil + Bliss, with a good shot of the Chinese cherries that used to grow outside my grandmother's house in Florida---not cherrylike at all, but super tart and almost painful to eat. Definitely Snake Oil and chocolate with a bitter fruit---maybe goji/acai? Wet on my skin: The berry note is leaving and the chocolate is amping. It's definitely not the dark cocoa in Boomslang, definitely more like Vice's or Bliss' chocolate. Interestingly, the milkiness of the note is blending far better with the musk in S.O. than I thought the darker chocolate in Boomslang did. Drying: Definitely some chocolate-musk-Snake Oil---the berry note keeps popping up, like "Hey! Wait for me, you guys!" I know I've smelled that note before. This is doing lovely things on my skin. Dry: OH MAN IT'S COPAL. I knew that super-tart almost-berry smell was familiar. This has turned a little strange on my skin, so I'm pretty sure it's not a keeper for me. Verdict: Snake Oil with milk chocolate, musk and copal. CCI In the bottle: Whoa! More fruity S.O.! Smells similar to Australian Copperhead, but... lighter. Melony? Wet on my skin: Definitely melon and maybe pomegranate. Super-fresh, not at all cloying---an awesome summer blend. Drying: Staying very true to the wet stage. This is really nice. It's also kind of reminding me of Irrelevant and Disturbing Surreal Crawdad Dream---maybe there's blueberry in there? Dry: Has become a gorgeous, lush blend of Snake Oil and a fruit salad. This is probably my favorite out of all the Snake Oil CTs I've tried. Verdict: Snake Oil with melon, pomegranate, strawberry and blueberry.

    'Second Skin' Scents

I tend to think that honey is the scent of skin after sex---which is when your natural scent, natural "musk" if you will, amps up highly enough that you can smell it. So I'd suggest searching the honey thread and seeing what they say, and I'm also going to recommend The Brides of Dracula, which is a melding of very light flowers, honey, and Beth's truly amazing "skin musk" note that I find smells very similar to my own. Good luck!

    Tomoe Gozen

I had an entire section of my arm devoted to Tomoe Gozen at SEWC the other night, and I took detailed enough notes that I think I can help y'all out with a review. In the bottle: WHOAHONEY. Normally I detest honey and it hates me right back, but on second sniff there was enough juicy, tart currant that I put it on anyway. On my skin, wet: The currants really pop out, perked up by the pink pepper. This is fruity and honeyed and really very sexy (then again, I tend to think that honey smells like body heat and really heavy red musk, so that might just be me), and somehow the honey is staying in the background! This is officially the second honey scent that's ever worked on me (the Brides of Dracula being the first), and I'm loving it. On my skin, drying: Oh dear, the honey REALLY amped up for a few minutes and for a bit there it smelled really bad to me. However, I got a bunch of the ladies at WC to smell it on me in this stage and they all loved it (including my sister, who is SUPER picky about scents)! I guess my nose just isn't a honey-lover. The stage passed fairly quickly, though, and I think I could definitely make it work. On my skin, dry: HOLY CRAP do I need a bottle of this! It's one of the most perfectly balanced scents I've ever tried---I can literally smell every note listed in the description. And most of them are bad notes on me! I think it's the amber (probably my #1 note of all time) and currant making every note behave---99% of the time blackberries turn to instant cat pee on me, but they're juicy and super-tart and wonderful here; pink pepper can often make a blend smell sickly, but it's just a touch of carnation-esque spice here; honey is usually TERRIBLE but I think in combination with the fruit notes it's chilling out. I absolutely MUST submit to this Inquistion (and if I do it'll be my first ever---and I think I've been around for five or six of them)!
