    In Templum Dei

Frankincense has a tendency to bulldoze over other notes and become Frankie Single Note on my skin. So, I did not have high hopes for ITD. If you amp Frankincense the way I do you might want to give ITD a try because Frank minds his manners and lets the other notes come out and play. This scent is rich and resinous with a church incense vibe. The Frankincense has a lovely sweetness to it that I attribute to either Sandalwood or Liquidamber or both. They also add a vibrancy and warmth to the Frankincense. This blend has some layering going on that gives it depth and opulence. Absolutely stunning.

    Hollywood Babylon

The essence of innocence shattered: glittering Egyptian amber and heliotrope, infused with the sweetness of strawberry and vanilla - dragged into debauch by lusty red musk and a dribble of black cherry. Big, fat juicy cherries dripping with Snake Oil. I am getting some amber in the background. Not detecting any strawberry nor any floral notes (although I don't know what Heliotrope is supposed to smell like). I like.

    Diamond Star

This is a really beautiful, close to the skin blend. It's a light, musky ambergris with just enough Benzoin to give it a powdery feel but not so much that it turns into baby powder. Wood and resin play in the background providing some extra depth to Diamond Star. I looked up what Immortelle is supposed to smell like: sweet, hay-like, honeyed, herbaceous aroma w/ smokey, tobacco, musk undertones. So, maybe that's partly where the muskiness is coming from. The blend is also sweet, but not foody sweet, so maybe the Immortelle is adding to that as well.

    Ava

Ava's scent is light & feminine. Vanilla musk and tuberose combine beautifully. I don't detect the mandarin as such but it lends a light citrus/fruity sweetness to the blend. I don't detect any almond which is nice because almond can sometimes go very wrong on my skin. Ava is durable and long-lasting for such a light scent. She is one of my favorites in the OLLA series.

    Our Hearts Condemn Us

Teak, cedar, and rose all come out strong. The cedar and teak have alot of depth to them or maybe it's the Oudh that's giving this scent it's depth? I can't speak too much to the Oudh since I don't have a great gauge on what that's supposed to smell like. As this dries it takes on a bit of a cologne smell but retains the individual notes. thank goodness the cologne isn't overpoweringly male so it remains unisex. It's a warm, introspective scent with a medium throw. Something cerebral about this scent calms me. I love it.

    This is Your Wilderness

I am in love with all the notes in this blend but the first time I tried this (right outta the shipping box) I hated it. It was very sweet...toooo sweet and knock-you-over-and-render-you-unconscious pine. So, I put it away for a few weeks and now I've retested. I can say that after a few weeks of settling this is a completely different blend. Honey and pine have both turned down their sound quite a bit. As a patch lover, I'm head over heels for this scent. This is a dirty patch with honey lending sweetness and tobacco lending smokiness. So, the patch itself smells slightly sweet and smokey. Pine and cypress have combined to create a lovely woodsy base. I'm so glad that after a few weeks of leaving this scent alone it's turned from a sweet pine blend into a patchouli dominant blend.

    Funnel of Love

Patchouli and Musk are predominant. The patch is the dirty kind and the musk does have a slight vegetal quality which give this blend a gritty edge. Hanging over the patch/musk is what I would describe as a dark, heavy incense and a medley of spices. The leather is rather quiet, just lingering, supporting the rest of the blend. FoL comes out and screams "here I am!" it's not for the faint-hearted but if you love patchouli blends this is a must.

    Adam

Adam smells like a worn, leather jacket that has absorbed particles of its surroundings. There is a slight woodsiness, the ghostly wisp of a man's cologne, whiffs of ambergris, and other fleeting notes that my nose isn't trained to discern. It all swirls, peeks out, and hides again around that leather jacket. This one's a must for folks who love leather blends.

    Eve

With all the notes in Eve it's hard for me to distinguish between them. I'll just say that Eve has layers upon layers of well-blended notes. To my nose this smells like expensive, sophisticated incense +. Incense blends are not my go-to scents but this one is so lovely that I will be keeping my decant.

    Streets of Detroit

SoD is very much like the Lab's description. Black musk dominates with Motor Oil and Myrrh playing supporting roles. Yes, i can smell motor oil. You'd think it would be gross but it isn't. It's perfect for making the Musk low-down and dirty. This has to be one of the sexier blends in the OLLA series. It's super dark and heavy too. Has good throw and lasts a good long while. A great scent to wear when you're doing bad things.

    June 23, 1868

June 23 is a lovely floral bouquet that is heady but not in your face. I did not detect tonka, tobacco, or vanilla as individual notes. If that's what you're expecting you will be disappointed in this scent. These notes, in unison, do indeed create an overall 'Sepia' tone. They keep the florals from going wild and make them smell antique. This has pretty good throw and lasted even after I took a shower. I'm not a great lover of floral blends although there are a few I wear on occasion. In June 23, I've found a floral blend that I'm absolutely mad about.

    Panther Moon

Panther Moon smells like my favorite occult book store. Heavy on the Nag Champa with herbs and spices swirling around. The musk rounds this blend out and adds another dimension. Dark, spicy incense and gloomy musk. I love it!

    The Girl

This was generously frimped to me by Sunshine. Wow, I was expecting a soft floral but what I got was an in-your-face masculine. Uber masculine. Masculine scents don't bother me. I wear many of the Lab's fragrances that are described that way...Dorian, Baron Samedi for example. But, this one smells like the cologne my step father wears. I mean, it's identical and I don't want to smell like my step dad. Looks like I dodged another rare scent bullet.

    Banshee Beat

This was generously frimped to me by the lovely Sunshine. I wanted to know what all the fuss was about. Sadly, I had the exact experience that Blueberry Pie had. As soon as I put BB on the same stale, nausea inducing smell hit me that's in Roadhouse. I thought it was the dandelion at the time, but no, it's the hemp. In Roadhouse it came off as sickly smelling, stale beer. In BB, it comes off as BO; I'm guessing because of the mix of hemp with dirty patchouli. I had the notion that I would love BB because patch and vanilla are win notes but hemp just comes in and ruins the party. So, now I know that Hemp is a death note. But, I can see why people love this scent. The vanilla & patch are fantastic. I think it might be the same vanilla as Tombstone (which I adore). I'm kinda relieved. At least I won't be cutting off my right arm for a bottle.

How long do bottles & imps last?

I've started keeping track on my spreadsheet scents that change, get better, or get worse. There are a few sadly that have gotten bad like Wrath and Death on a Pale Horse (which I bought fresh from the lab). But, the vast majority haven't and a number of them have gotten better like Tombeur, which I love fresh but aged is soooo much better, or Dark Pumpkin Mead, which I didn't care for at first but now with just a little aging I really dig.

    Vice

The main player; Big, dark, juicy cherries dipped in liquid chocolate. Delicious! I am getting the Orange Blossom in the background. It's like there is a bit of Orange zest floating around in the chocolate. Blossoms make this scent more complex by adding a light floral touch. The Chocolate note is absolutely divine and so sweet. Also, I could swear I smell buttercream even though its not listed in the notes. The bottle I'm testing has been aging for a little over a year and it's so much better than when I tested it fresh. Fresh, Vice didn't quite have the complexity it has now.

    The Cat

In the vial: Cedar, but the benzoin/honey are making it powdery and sweet. Wet stage: Wet, the honey makes this smell almost identical to O. Dry stage: As the blend dries down musk comes out. The Cat is mostly musk and cedar. Benzoin and honey play supporting roles in rounding out this blend and giving it a soft, cuddly feel. I'm loving The Cat.

    Mad Sweeney

In the vial: Ewwww...Nail polish remover & fruit. Wet Stage: No more fruit and the acetone scent morphs (after a few minutes) into booze. Dry Stage: This is pretty much Oak SN with only a hint of whiskey. After reading some of the reviews I was afraid I was going to smell like an old lush but there really isn't much of a boozy scent. Only when I get my nose real close. It's not a bad scent but doesn't exactly make me do cartwheels.

    Luna Sanguinem

In the bottle: Musky, herbal, floral Wet stage: Something very sharp. My guess is its the Geranium but who can tell for sure with so many notes. Could be its one of the herbal notes? Sharpness is surrounded by a smokey rose. Dry stage: Sharpness decreases as it dried down and the blend becomes smoother. This oil seems to have two layers. There is the layer underneath that has a cool, lunar feel to it. And a layer on top that feels aggressive and hot. Its as if the moon is charred. Haven't tried anything quite like this from the Lab. It's complex and unusual. I Love This!

    Dark LE recommendations

Agree with Haute Macabre and So Below. Some others that haven't been mentioned... Black Tower (GC) - white sandalwood, ambergris, wet ozone, galbanum and leather with ebony, teak, burnt grasses, English ivy and a hint of red wine Black Forest (GC) - Thick, viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress. Czernobog (GC) - A combination of three musks, with splashes of dark myrrh, vetiver and mullein. The Rending of the Rock (LE) - Doom unfettered, the ruin of hope: the tattered remains of Gelgja, smashed stone, feral grey musk, and blackened blood. Wolf Moon (LE) - This is the dead of winter: a frozen night, chill wind, and the sharp, warm perfume of blood, fur, fang, and claw. Winter air, Terebinth pine, juniper berry, dusty orris, deep amber, brown musk, white sandalwood, black cypress, blue cedar, Siamese benzoin, white tobacco, and tonka Pickled Imp (LE) - Cinnamon, clove, vanilla, and pine sap The Malignant Dreams of Cthulhu in Love (LE) - incense, spices, kelp, sea salt, mystery, dark ocean plants, and mixed chocolates Eldritch Dark (LE) - Black and red musks with honey, leather, and sugared black rose

    The Ship of Hel

This smells a whole lot like my favorite scented candle by Witch City Wicks called (ironically) Viking. When I smell the candle I've often thought that I would love a complimentary perfume oil so I could smell that way too. Now I can with Ship of Hel! I have to agree with the comparisons to both Black Forest and reminding me of a Yule scent. It's like a pine forest in deep freeze. There's a sweetness overlaying the whole but it's not a fruity or candy sweetness. More like an herbal, green sweetness (if that makes sense). These notes float on top of an aquatic note that smells like cold, frigid waters. This is the sort of aquatic that works for me...in the background. I think anyone who loves Black Forest should give Ship of Hel a try. It's lovely. Cold and refreshing.

    The Marquis de Carabas

For me, the Marquis is an almost dead ringer for Haute Macabre. I swear it's the same leather note in both. Both also have that buttery almond/coconut combo that I love. The difference is that the Marquis is a bit more spicy and smokey.

    The Battle of Vigridr

No. Just no. I was looking forward to this one but there is something so wrong. There is a note in this that reminds me of The Memory of Primal Secrets. I can't figure out what it is but it has that same stomach churning effect on me. So sad.

    The Laughter of Loki

This is a hard scent to pin down; it's complex and full of contradictions. The two main players are a slick, svelte musk with a lovely patchouli for a dancing partner. The not-so-fiery ginger has been relegated to the role of wallflower. Not certain what mistletoe and alder leaf are supposed to smell like but them, along with the other notes, blend beautifully in the background. They provide music and mood for the dancers. This scent isn't so much light as it is deceptively nonchalant. It's debonair and a bit glib but peeking out underneath is mischief and wickedness ready to strike. The scent whispers Trickster. It's fitting for Loki. I see myself wearing this when I need a confidence boost. It's intriguing. a rating of 5/5.

    The Final Darkness

This is a scent evocative of darkness. Smoked Oud really hits my nose when this is still wet on the skin. As it dries the smokiness recedes but doesn't go away. It blends in nicely with the rest of the notes. It's hard for me to really pick out individual notes. To my nose it's got a dark resin feel; a bit of incense in the background. I'm not really getting any aquatic out of this. It smells like shadows. I really love this and I'm glad I have a bottle.
