I love this. On me, this is very figgy, but very, very soft and creamy and the frankincense is very evident. I ordered it mainly for the frankincense, benzoin and the fig, so this makes me very happy. The throw is strong and I keep catching whiffs of it and wondering what the gorgeous smell is. I am so glad to have a bottle of this, but I think that I will need to order some Strangler Fig because I will need to extend the life of this jewel.

1/20/09 - OMG, I chose this to wear on inauguration day and it has gotten creamier and smells like creamy fig and beeswax.

Hey folks! I'm trying to get my mom away from perfume that I can't stand (chemicals trigger my asthma or something) and into a BPAL she'll love.

 

The only perfume she wears, daily, is Givenchy's Organza Indecence. I can't smell it to tell what kind of notes I'd be looking for - so can anyone recommend anything to me? Please? In time for Yule?

okay so i just put in an order using paypal for aunt caroline's joy mojo and beth said to put your order contents in the notes section but i was never given the choice? what am i supposed to do? i have an order confirmation and everything. will the lab know what bottle i want?

I would email the lab. The comments window used to be very clear, but now it is often hidden or you have to click on the plus sign and open a smaller window - ugh, why did they fix something that wasn't broken.

Hi everyone, I just have a quick question;

 

I made two orders in Sept and haven't gotten CnS yet for either. One order was made Sept 20, the other Sept 26th. Should I be emailing the lab and asking about my orders? They were made via Paypal, and both payments were accepted.

 

Am I just getting antsy? (I had made an order on the 16th of Sept and already have that one here.)

I would wait a bit. I just got my order from the 19th only a few days ago and I only live a couple of hours from the lab.

There was a forum only scent last July called Irrelevant & Disturbing surreal Crawdad Dream which had blueberry as one of the many notes. I have seen it available in the sales and swaps section, so you might be in luck. You can read the reviews here.........oops, I'm posting from work and I can't link it, so I'll do this for now until I get home.

Wow! I looooove that bottle! I can understand why they don't do the labels anymore--time-consuming and all that--but anybody know why they stopped using those bottles? They're adorable. Uh-oh, now I coveteth...

Because the lab and its following have grown significantly since they used that bottle, it would be impractical and time consuming for them to use it now. They now utilize automated bottle filling equipment which is one of the reasons that they stopped offering the 10 ml bottles. Also, they use a fairly standard bottle that is easier to keep in stock. That said.......boy, it sure is cute. What a score!

The Yules from 07 had two different style labels, one with parchment and one with a picture.

The gallery pics that I think you are looking for is the second category on this page. However, it has the pictures of labels and it isn't really what you want. I'm not sure about that bottle, therefore I am of absolutely no help to you.

I was attempting to pare down my shopping list and so I decided to begin by ordering only a decant of this. Then, I read the reviews and started to kick myself. When my decant arrived, I immediately tested and then I really wanted to kick myself. For the next half hour I was sniffing the air, but something was nagging at me and I couldn't quite put my finger on why it smelled so familiar. Then I had it - on me, this smells very much like Valentine of Rome which I love. For some reason, the combination of the notes ends up smelling like sweet resins on my skin. So, I didn't end up with a bottle of Hellhound, but I do have 3 bottles of Valentine.

There's no way it's the Lab--they're selling "Embalming Fluid" nailpolish as "the Lab" and not Trading Post. And BPAL is so proud of who they are, and there's nothing of that here. This is so creepy. eta - oh, Rheliwen was posting the same time I was so I didn't see the post in the link about it actually being the lab.

And regarding how prolific we are... I don't have the time to be insulted right now. I can always slow down the updates if that'll increase buyer confidence. That's an option.

I don't know, Beth, maybe you could just sell empty bottles labeled, "Do It Yourself" and we can do this:

BPAL; 2 parts blood orange, 3 parts Egyptian musk, 1 part ocean mist

Personally, I prefer CCNow over PayPal. I've noticed that orders I place through CCNow seem to get processed more quickly than my PayPal orders have. At the moment, I'm waiting on the CnS for SGA, Schwarzer Mond and Lune Noir. I placed the order via PayPal a few minutes after the update went live on 7/28, but I'm seeing posts in the CnS topic from people who ordered on 7/31 and already have a CnS. Of course, it might have nothing to do with PayPal, but it's a trend that I've noticed in my orders.

 

I think in the future, I'll just order through CCNow and use my PayPal debit card if I want to pay with PayPal funds.

I think doing that means the Lab gets charged fees twice, unfortunately. They get charged a PayPal fee and a CCNow fee. That's why they prefer people use the PayPal comments box method if they want to pay with PayPal. Of course, you'll still get your order if you pay with PayPal via CCNow; it's just better for the Lab (and helps keep prices down for everybody!) if you don't double up the fees.

 

(Someone correct me if I've got the facts wrong - I'm an international customer, so I've only ever used PayPal solo.)

No, you are correct and that is why the lab states this in their site:

IF YOU ARE PAYING VIA PAYPAL, please do NOT use our online credit card processor. Place your order through PayPal using the payment address paypal [at] blackphoenixalchemylab [dot] com and fill your order info in the comments field.

Wrong topic but.....the click and ship just means someone printed the shipping label, right? That's what I've gathered, but I could be wrong. It doesn't necessarily mean your package is in the mail on its way.

Right, it just means that the label has been printed. The CnS will generally give the date of when it will ship. The lab often labels late at night and they won't ship until the next day. The CnS that I got about a half hour ago actually said that the package had shipped today. Sorry, I'm tired and I seem to be rambling. I hope that this makes sense.

I've heard of that happening with international orders. I've had tons of orders and have had a CnS for every one through PP.

Hmmm, maybe you should check out some of the things in the Steamworks category since you can get imps for them and they are GC.........and they are not your usual flowery and fruity scents. I, too, go for dark with smoke, incense, patchouli, wood and soil. Although the Carnival Diabolique is LE, you can probably find decants in the swaps/sales posts and there are some wonderful dark blends in there. One of my favorites is Parliament of Monsters.

Well, you are probably already gone, but I do what thedoctorscompanion does, pack a few imps and decants in a plastic bag and place it in the larger plastic bag that goes through the security check. I have never had any problems. I sometimes will take a GC bottle along if I think that I "need" it.

So, I'm a moron. I just made my first order, and I went through CCNow because I was going to use Paypal Plugin to generate a card number. I forgot I'd upgraded to Firefox 3 and the PPPlugin didn't work anymore, so I went through the whole process and went "crap, I can't generate a card number, oh well I'll just use Paypal straight up then." Forgetting, since it'd been a while since I'd read the news and directions and whatnot page, that outright Paypal orders should be done through Paypal and not CCNow, I just clicked through to Paypal and finished the order. It occurred to me today, and I went to check, and sure enough I did it the wrong way accidentally. ; Is this a problem? Is my order not going to go through or something?

It will go through just fine. It's just best not to do it because the lab gets less money because of fees. You're not a moron.

*chuckles* That's what I get for having extremely neutral chemistry because my review is going to sound so different from the others. The strongest note at the opening is the honey, but after about 10 minutes, the rest of the notes arrive, all equally strong and make this a deep, sexy, fruity patchouli with the salty aquatic note from the ambergris. I absolutely love this and I am as taken with this as I was with Trick 2 which is in my top 5 BPAL blends. I think that this is incredibly sexy.

So I placed a paypal order oh last friday I think, will I get any type of order confirmation or will my order just show up someday?

You should have gotten a Paypal notice of payment, but the only thing that you will get from the lab will be a CnS when it ships.

Does anyone know if all the Dragon Moon orders have gone out? I ordered it and an imp pack with some of the Steamworks scents on 4/19 and I'm getting a bit concerned since I see Dyan Moon orders going out in the C&S thread.

 

Does anyone know when an order is considered lost after you receive a CnS? Mine is an International order that was shipped to the UK on May 15. Other UK people have received theirs and I am still waiting.

I'm looking for a good seaweedy recommendation! I've tried Windward Passage but in the vial and on my skin all I get is Irish Spring.
