  1. I am absolutely in love with Strawberry Moon 2009. It reminds me of my parents back yard when I was growing up with the strawberry patch next to the lawn because it picks up notes of both......including the dandelions which I neglected to catch while I was weeding with my mother. The throw is rather deceiving because, although it is not huge, it swirls around and I can smell the strawberries all day long. It also sticks around for a long time and I wake up in the morning smelling the fruit to start my day. I think that I just might need another bottle of this beauty.

  2. I'm thinking Earth Rat and Green Phoenix layered may be even closer to Tranquil Breezes than just Green Phoenix, since I got a lot of melon from Earth Rat - I'll try that sometime soon. I was cleaning out a drawer in my vanity last night and found a half bottle of Tranquil Breezes something... a splash of some kind, so now I actually have something to compare to!

Duuuuude check out how much that $#!+ goes for on ebay! It's unbelievable! If you ever need a couple bucks and you're not attached to that bottle, throw it up for bids and you'll get money for it, even if it is half used : -)

 *stares at collection of Tranquil Breezes and runs to check out ebay*

I bought Green Phoenix because of the TB connection, but I do have a partial bottle of Earth Rat that I'm going to try layering over it. I don't often desire the melon thing, but sometimes it is something that I look for.

  3. I need to get Pain. I was going to leave out "to get," but I didn't want to tempt fate.

I have a bug repellent from someone on Etsy and it seems to work for fleas as well. It smells of lavender, but I don't know if it has pennyroyal in it and her description does not list any notes. I should ask her.

Pennyroyal also will work to take the itch out of the bite, but lavender works for that purpose as well.

  4. I'm so glad to see this thread because I have been on a huge coconut kick lately and I like anything with vanilla. Funny thing is that last night, I was thinking about having a custom coconut/vanilla/sandalwood/sugar blend made up for me. I had completely forgotten about my bottles of Brown Jenkins and Death Adder which are both heavy on the coconut. I am going to be positively dripping in coconutty goodness. :D

  5. portalkat--no, I haven't, and reading the description I am wondering why not (I love benzoin and frankincense, jasmine can be iffy with me--either wonderful or not so wonderful).

    *puts down on mental list*

I have tried Ulalume; it was nice but not one of those "omigod, I must sell my firstborn child now to get money to buy more* scents.

I just put some Thalassa on so that I could give you my thoughts on it and it isn't heavy on the jasmine. It's mainly an aquatic with a little feminine vibe floating on the breeze. :D

Oh, and I'm sure that your firstborn will be relieved to know that they aren't that expendable.

  6. After six months, this baby has come into her own. I like both Snake Oil and Dorian, but neither is my holy grail of scents and when my bottle first arrived from the lab, I could smell both of those as well as the lavender. I liked it, but didn't love it and I haven't worn it since the day that I got it, but I wanted to put on a lavender blend when I went to bed last night. Wow, I was so surprised because the whole is now greater than the sum of its parts. This is no longer Snake Oil and Dorian with other notes added. Lilith Victoria has come into her own and developed her own unique personality. To think that I almost had sold this poor neglected bottle.......now, I am thinking about tracking another bottle down. :wub2:

  7. I have a collection of all the other "13" blends, so although the notes for this one did not entice me, I had to order it anyway. Well, this is one of my favorites even though the chocolate is not the focal point. This is heavy on the ginger and nutmeg and has sort of a deep smoky edge to it. The brown sugar and the tonka do a good job of sweetening things up and I absolutely love this.

  8. Hmm... I've looked through all the replies here and will probably be ordering more imps soon to try some of these suggestions. I, too, am looking for a great vanilla since my guy loves it. ;) I've got an imp each of Antikythera Mechanism, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, and Hunger on order, but have to wait a little to receive them yet. I saw mention of adding some singlenote vanilla to a fragrance I already like, but can't see a place where it's available for purchase. Is this a rarity or is there a special place I need to look for it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I wasn't sure if the single note vanilla to which you referred was in reference to the now discontinued BPAL single notes, but they are gone except for some that you might see in the swap lists.

This thread is only for recommendations for BPAL, so I won't go into vanilla notes offered by other companies, but sometimes I layer things with Midway. Unfortunately, it is an LE, although you might see it for sale or swap occasionally and it has been brought back before as a resurrected scent. I only have the original, but I did read reviews where some found the original to be more vanilla than the resurrected scent.

  9. The Forbidding Foyer is old, polished wood, right down to a whiff of ancient furniture polish. Sounds totally odd for a perfume but it really grew on me. It's great for feeling cozy on a rainy, blustery day.

I am a dork. I typed out Perilous Parlour in my post up above, but I really meant Forbidding Foyer. I am so glad, FsP that you brought me to my senses. *runs off to fix mistake*

  10. I got this directly from the Trading Post way back when, but never took the time to review it. For me this is really True Love. I love the lab's deep, nutty patchouli and it is really evident here. Then you add in the interesting combination of florals and fruits and it turns into something magnificent. It is very elegant, but in true BPAL/BTPT fashion.

  11. My turn with a question :D

I was given a frimp of BPAL Intergalactic with a hand-written label. I can't seem to bring up the 'advanced' search on the BPAL website, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me what it is?!

    Thanks! :wub2:

It was an unreleased gift scent. The review thread is here.

  12. I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but....

Should Posh Brats, the only authorised UK reseller, really be selling bottles of the Retail-Only Salons (among other scents) for 6.99 on Buy It Now on ebay? It seems to be undercutting the lab by quite a lot.... I don't know what kind of arrangement they ahve with the lab, but this caught my attention.

    http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/poshbratsu...QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZ

I noticed that the price is not $6.99, but 6.99 pounds sterling, but that still comes out to only about $10.50, so............yeah, wtf?!?!

  13. Hanerot Halalu is my favorite BPAL beeswax scent. I have most of the ones which have been mentioned, but HH really smells like a beeswax candle to me. I really have this obsession with the beeswax note and I have quite a few beeswax single notes from different places and HH smells just like the single note with a lovely smoothness.

  14. I'm new to woodsy scents as perfumes, aside from the sandalwood cologne my Father always used to wear.

Of course, I know pine from Christmas, and the smell of our neighborhood fireplaces in the crisp winter air, but I don't know which type of wood that'd be.

I'm trying to find a scent more reminiscent of California forests...Sequoias, Redwoods, the giant fern forest up by Gold Bluffs beach. The only real other dealbeaker would be if it had icky cinnamon in it, or a poignant ginger note, which I'm not fond of. Oh, and no loud patchouli. Otherwise, all recommendations are welcome. If you happen to know a BPAL that reminds you of New England fireplaces, as well...by all means, please recommend that, too.

One of my favorite pure wood scents is Carceri D'Invencione in the Salon category. It has a lovely redwood note.
