  1. I love this blend. As others have noted, the pine is heavy at the opening, but as it dries, the sweetness of the resins begins to come forward. This is also when the cypress starts to emerge. This actually stayed with me for hours. I applied just the tiniest bit before I went to bed and the conifer and resiny sweetness was still going strong when I awoke. I am going to get a backup of this, because I do not want to be kicking myself like I did when Stranger in Camp was gone.

  2. A scent redolent of the crusty exterior of burnt marshmallows.

I love this, but I was getting worried from some of the reviews, because some people were getting cinnamon and that is not a favorite scent of mine. I am glad to say that I do not get cinnamon at all and what I do get is exactly what I was hoping for. I get the charred shell of the marshmallow with the sweet gooeyness oozing out. I am so thrilled that I just ordered a backup bottle. Smoky marshmallow is one of my favorite scents.

  3. The Seekim is my big winner but I know it's not for everyone.

Muse Of The Night is really beautiful, but I'm not sure I can pull it off.

Your review for the Seekim is making me think that I need this. I love patchouli and incense and ash, so I must love this.

I ordered the Gorobble and Night Hag/Lapland Witches because burnt marshmallows appeal to me and woodsmoke in the latter made it a must have.

I swear, I always seem to be drawn to anything with ash, embers and smoke notes. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe it's the incinerator in the backyard when I was growing up in the hills of Los Angeles. Okay, I think that I just dated myself.

  4. This has really changed in the month since I first got it. A month ago it was strong rose and about 30 minutes after that a bit of the sandalwood would start to peek out. Now that it has done some aging, the rose is only strong while it is wet. When it dries, it starts to resemble Saint Foutin de Varailles which I love. I actually love rose scents, but I didn't think that I would be wearing this one a lot. With the aging, it has become more complex, the rose has deepened and even though I can't separate the notes, the whole thing has come together and developed into a beautiful blend. I'm glad to have taken a chance so that I could grab this beauty.

  5. I'd never heard of BPAL, until I was recently given several bottles of the oils plus 17 sample Imps. Immediate new obsession!

Question: I have a bottle called 'Samhain', but I cant find it on the website to order another. Is it not offered anymore? Is there anything similar to it?

    Welcome!

You are in luck because Samhain is part of the limited edition Halloween/Autumn update that just went live the other day. Here is a link to the lab's Limited Edition Page and if you scroll down a bit, you will see Samhain 2011. I'm not sure what year your decant is from, but I find them to be fairly similar over the years. They have the same components, but there may be a bit of variation.

  6. I always purchase and use TAL's for their properties and not their scent, but I have tried to pay attention to Leo Stellium so that I could review the scent because it is rather lovely.

I get a sort of rose and lemony smell from this. I, too, am thinking some sort of geranium, perhaps lemon or rose geranium or lemon balm. The lemon that I'm getting is not really like the fruit, but maybe verbena, or as I had mentioned before, some sort of scented geranium. There is also a wood note that wafts in and out but I can't really identify it.

Okay, I take that back about the lemon, because depending upon how much I apply, the lemon note varies. I just applied some more liberally than I normally do and it is smelling more like the fruit right now.

As for the properties, I only received this two days ago, but I got some good job related news, so that was interesting. My life for the past few years has been about reinvention, going from full-time, jeweler/metalsmith for over 20 years to healthcare worker.

I have my sun, my moon and 3 other planets in Leo, so Leo Stellium is going to be a very interesting addition to my life.

  7. I have been reading the reviews for Voodoo lately and since I am a patchouli lover, I decided to dig up my imp and test.

It seems promising when first applied and I notice that there are no jarring notes and everything seems to be going well. The throw is quite strong and I catch wafts of it every few minutes. I like it quite a bit, however it isn't the dark patchouli scent that I was expecting. I think that it might be the combination of the lime, vanilla and pine that is giving it a brightness that I hadn't expected. I should probably revisit this when I am not in such an Autumn mood. I do like it, but it isn't what I am in the mood for right now. Some of you who like a lighter and brighter patchouli blend might really like this. It is actually very pretty.

  8. This has become my go-to TAL lately. I have noticed that after I apply it, I experience a sense of optimism and lightness. It's a very powerful blend for me and I carry it in my purse so that I have it at all times.

I never buy TAL's for their scent, but this does have a light and uplifting smell, sort of a bright herbal sort of rose, or as someone mentioned, rose geranium. It's quite lovely, but I still just wear it for the feelings that it imparts.

  9. I could have sworn I saw a review thread for Benevolent Triple Conjunction, and now I can't find it. I did separate searches for "Benevolent" and "Conjunction" in the TAL review section, the LE section, and the overall review section, and it is steadfastly refusing to come up. Help, please?

    Here you go. :)

  10. Wow! All of that seems new to me. When I have ordered in the past, I fill up my "cart" through CC Now and after I enter my addy and contact info at the bottom of the screen it gave me the option to use paypal or enter a credit card number. This time, the paypal option wasn't there. This IS a new thing, because when I ordered Weeping Branches Moon and RPG's the paypal option was there. I just thought it was a bit strange. I ended up placing my order with a credit card, I just prefer paypal as a general rule. :)

This is from the Lab's FAQ page - I enlarged and bolded the important part:

    Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I order through Paypal? Can I tell you what I want so you can send me an invoice?

We do not send Paypal invoices. To place an order through Paypal, first construct your order, then calculate your total and:

    1. Go to www.paypal.com and click on "send money"

    2. Address your payment to paypal@blackphoenixalchemylab.com

    3. At the "review and confirm" stage, list your selections in the message box provided

    4. Please be sure to send payment in US Dollars only

If your selections do not fit in Paypal's message box, please email your selections to Customer Service after sending the payment.

    Please note:

You may use our online shopping cart to construct your order and calculate your total, but please do not click on "checkout" if you are paying with Paypal. The checkout feature is for credit card orders only. Please do not select Paypal as payment method on a CCNow order. We get double charged for all orders that use both Paypal and CCNow together.

  11. I'm getting ready to place an order (like, now) and for the first time since I have been ordering from BPAL, I am only given the option to use a CC - no option to use paypal. That's not good...I don't mind using a CC, but I would rather use PP - has anyone else encountered this? Any info would be greatly appreciated. :)

I'm a little confused as well. If you are wanting to use Paypal, you should log into your PP account and send your money to the lab. If you are clicking on the links and ending up a CCNow, you should not use Paypal because the lab ends up getting charged by CCNow and Paypal......or did you mean somethings else?

  12. yes i like to ask a question about that, i did place an order and i did for example:

    1x 5ml snake oil

    1x 5ml O

BUT i forgot to put the price behind them! is that a problem?

I shouldn't think that would be a problem, providing that you sent them the correct amount. ;) I often do not put the price behind each individual item and it has worked out fine.

  13. Can anyone help me find Horn of Plenty? It's supposed to be in Bewitching Brews, but I'm not seeing it there. Also, All Night Long, from the same category? Thanks!

All Night Long and Horn of Plenty

And just so you know, you can access a scent's review page by typing in the scent name under the search function on the blackphoenixalchemylab.com website. Just type the name of the scent into the search bar, find it in the list of scents that the search produces, and then click on its name. :)

Plainjean, thanks for the reply! I'm sorry, I realized later that I was unclear when I posted this: I was hoping to still buy bottles of these two from the Lab itself. Have they been discontinued? They don't seem to be available on the BPAL site anymore. (Although I realize now, looking at the links, that All Night Long is NOT a Bewitching Brew, as I previously had thought, oops!)

Thanks for the help, but I guess I'm still looking for more.

I'm not sure if I am understanding you correctly, but Horn of Plenty and All Night Long are on the lab's page here. If you scroll down the page to the Conjure Bag section on the Bewitching Brews page, you will see both of them and they are available. :)

  14. I've been told that there would be a "notefinder" on this site wich i can use to help search for the right bpal oils

WHERE can i find it? i tried the search option but nothing came out of that <_<

The search engine for the notes is actually on the lab site here. I think that is what you were asking for, right. You can either put the notes that you want in there or the name of the oil that you are looking for and it will search for you. Then, you can click on on the links to the oil and it will take you back here to the forum site and you can read the reviews. I hope that I didn't confuse you further. :)

  15. I love all of the "13" blends and this one is no exception. I was expecting to find a drier, darker chocolate note, but I'm finding it to be more in line with the chocolate in the red label "13." I think that my favorite parts of this blend are the champaca flower and the way the it mixes with the honey, chocolate and bergamot. The bergamot seems to give it a brightness and it just helps to punch out those other notes. I love this.

  16. Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to just add my 2 cents to this comparison between Spanked and Pacifica's Spanish Amber. I was able to try Spanked because of a lovely forumite from the other side of the world, and I would have to agree with those who said that there is a similarity. To me, the Spanish Amber smells like the deeper notes of Spanked. It is definitely not as complex and it is missing some of the higher notes, but I think that it is pretty close and it is nice in its own simplicity. My Whole Foods was out of the solid, but when I was in the store, I tried the EDP and I don't think that it is as similar in that form. I got the solid from Ebay and I think that it is more Spanklike. :)
