  1. That's why I mentioned the Rocking Horse Fly - it may not be all wood, but it is at least all tree!

Ah, missed this the first time, sorry about that. I'm worried about the shellac, but I'll give it a shot. And I love your sig quote.

Meanwhile, I think Cathedral is a winner, kids.

Yay! That is one of my top 10 BPALs and the one that I would have suggested if I had actually taken the time to post here........I know, after the fact, huh? I'm kind of a girly girl who gravitates towards wood, smoke, incense and resins. I discovered Cathedral early on and it has remained a favorite of mine. I'm glad that you like it.

  2. I know it's not nice to get someone addicted to a Limited Edition scent, but I have to share the awesomeness that is White Peacock. It's still available from the lab in the Metamorphosis section of the Limited Editions and you can buy it until September 4. The notes are Teak, ebony wood, osmanthus, patchouli, red sandalwood, vanilla orchid, tonka bean, tobacco, wild musk, spikenard, and sugandh kokila. and it the most amazing woodsy, musky vanilla scent ever.

As for General Catalogue, I wholeheartedly second Morocco and also recommend Love Me, Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener (this goes on like root beer and then morphs into a drop dead sexy vanilla on me), Goblin (heavy on patchouli, but awesome) and Bordello. I had Lyonesse on this list then noticed you already bought that one!

Any reason why I can't find White Peacock in the list of perfume titles when attempting to add a new perfume to my wishlist/inventory? I don't think I will be forgetting this gem, as it sounds right up my nostril alley, but it would be nice to add it, just in case.... Am I missing something obvious here?

White Peacock is here on the Limited Editions page......is this what you meant?

  3.

    Wet: nag champa incense.

Dry, the headshop i like, which is always burning nag champa......

I had to quote this review because this is spot on. I bought a bottle of this when it was first released, but I never really wore it. I was testing it tonight and it seemed so familiar to me, but I could not place it until I read this review. This smells so much like Temple Incense perfume oil from Song of India, maybe a little more of a wood note, but pretty similar. I love Song of India and I am happy that I found a BPAL to fill my nag champa needs.

  4. Is there a review page for the Pirate Flag scent from October 31st 2007 (an event exclusive I think but I can't find it when I check that area)? I might be looking in the wrong area, but would appreciate a kindly nudge in the right direction, or indeed, what to actually call the scent.

If it's just a skull and crossbones on the label with no writing, it might be Jolly Roger

No, I'm pretty sure that it is the forum only scent that I linked to above. It was made in honor of Beth's and Puddin's wedding - Pirate Moon.

LOL, you're probably right, I forgot that Pirate Moon didn't have the scent name on it either but the date is there!

I know! I always end up looking at my bottle and wonder what it is!

I think that you are referring to the Wedding scent for Beth and Puddin, Pirate Moon. That review is here. It does have a pirate flag on the label and it came out around that time, so I think this is the one that you are looking for. :)

  7. First of all, thank you to my Faery for allowing me to get a bottle of this. :wub2:

This had an initial blast of the cedar, which is a favorite of mine, but within a minute, it gave way to the benzoin. After it dries, it reads primarily benzoin and amber. I know that the balsam and pepper are giving it the brightness and that the wood notes are providing grounding, so what seems like a simple blend is really much more complex. This had good throw and staying power on me. I put some on before I went to bed and in the morning, it was still going strong. I'm glad that this is the bat that was first choice on my list.

  8. This 13 contains thirteen flowers of good luck swirled in white chocolate and a touch of honey: white carnation, stephanotis, blood-flower, yellow rose, eggplant flower, tiare, chamomile blossom, champaca flower, pink heather, wild orchid, pink peony, sweet basil flower, and Bells of Ireland.

This 13 reminds me of the 7/07 release with the pink label and a bit of the one with the orange label. It has sort of the creamy tropical feel that of the 07, although the florals are not the same except for the orchid. I think that the tiare and wild orchid are giving it that same sort of feeling and they do both share the white chocolate which gives it that creaminess. The 7/07 release was always one of my favorites, so I am loving this newest one as well.

  9. Is there a review thread up for the April 2012 13? I can't find it, if so o_O

i've been wondering that too. since the day i got it!

Me too. I was going to review it and didn't see the new thread. I was just going to tack it on to an older "13" and report my post so that a mod could put it into its own home. Then, I got busy and didn't do anything. :(

  10. If they look like this:

    post-57-1133858250.png

they would be the Pumpkin Patch of 2005. But I think there was another Pumpkin Patch in 2006. This is just what I found searching the review section of the forum. I am sure you'll get answers from people who have known BPAL longer than I do.

There was an 06, but it didn't have the green squiggles, I don't think. I'm at work, so no access to my bottles right now.

  11. If you go into the gallery section (look at the top of your page for the buttons) on page 5 of that section here, down near the left hand corner, you can see some of the pumpkin labels. I think that if you look around the galler, you can find the older ones as well. I just happened to think of these since they had the green squiggles. Hope it helps.

    OMG, cute little baby turtle!!!

  12. In our paean to all the mysteries surrounding this enigmatic number, there are thirteen lucky and unlucky components in this fragrance: cacao absolute, Holy basil, Jamaican ginger, High John the Conqueror root, lucky hand root, manzanilla, nutmeg, Queen of the Meadow, star anise, thyme, frankincense, Irish moss, and huckleberry leaf.

The west coast will call reviews kept mentioning something about this being a very woody blend. When I first saw the notes when it went live, I could not understand how this could possibly end up smelling woody - but it does! It's very woody with the cacao and ginger peeking through. I love all of the 13's and this one is no exception. It just keeps getting prettier and prettier the longer that it's on and it will also have a special meaning to me because this past Friday the 13th is the day that my FIL passed.

  13. A new year’s blessing! Peony, China’s national flower, with bamboo for flexibility, Buddha’s Hand for introspective spiritual growth, plum blossom for perseverance, courage, and hope, coconut for camaraderie, chrysanthemum for a life free of grief and struggle, tangerine and orchid for wealth, orange for happiness, lychee for household peace, pine resin for constancy, golden kumquat, pussy willow, and quince for prosperity, sesame for sweetness, narcissus and King mandarin for good fortune, and peach blossom for longevity, with a splash of blazing red of dragon’s blood… to help you scare away the rampaging Nian.

This is one that I would have ordered regardless of the notes because I am a water dragon. This is another happy fruity blend like the First Encounter. I find it to be mainly kumquat and quince with some peony and all of the other notes being supporting players. It's quite lovely and something that I will definitely wear in the warmer months. I like fruity blends when I reach outside of my usual woody, smoky, resiny dark scents, but I think that I enjoy the warm weather blends most.

  14. Mother of memories, mistress of mistresses,
O thou, my pleasure, thou, all my desire,
Thou shalt recall the beauty of caresses,
The charm of evenings by the gentle fire,
Mother of memories, mistress of mistresses!

The eves illumined by the burning coal,
The balcony where veiled rose-vapour clings—
How soft your breast was then, how sweet your soul!
Ah, and we said imperishable things,
Those eves illumined by the burning coal.

Lovely the suns were in those twilights warm,
And space profound, and strong life’s pulsing flood,
In bending o’er you, queen of every charm,
I thought I breathed the perfume in your blood.
The suns were beauteous in those twilights warm.

The film of night flowed round and over us,
    And my eyes in the dark did your eyes meet;
I drank your breath, ah! sweet and poisonous,
And in my hands fraternal slept your feet—
Night, like a film, flowed round and over us.

I can recall those happy days forgot,
And see, with head bowed on your knees, my past.
Your languid beauties now would move me not
Did not your gentle heart and body cast
The old spell of those happy days forgot.

Can vows and perfumes, kisses infinite,
    Be reborn from the gulf we cannot sound;
As rise to heaven suns once again made bright
After being plunged in deep seas and profound?
Ah, vows and perfumes, kisses infinite!

Voluptuous darkness: Bourbon vetiver, red patchouli, honey, helichrysum, and black rose.

I bought this because of the reviews in the west coast will call thread. I had no idea what this would smell like, but I kept reading things about wood notes and they are some of my favorites, so I took a chance. The rose is deep, but it is not the starring player here. The dusty wood notes are dominant and when I look at the notes in the description, I'm not sure what is combining to form this. I suspect that it might be the helichrysum and the vetiver. I am not really smelling the red patchouli in this and the honey is helping to sweeten the rose which stays quietly in the background. This is very pretty and it is like smelling the dusty wood balcony with the rose in the garden beneath.

  15. This is not something that I would normally go for, preferring dark, woody, smoky and resiny scents, but I am a sucker for anything with apricot and candied fruit notes, so I decided to order a bottle. This is a bright fruity scent. The jasmine is combining with the tonka and fruits and is not really the star player here. I always think that quince is a strong fruit note as it is here and I think the dominant one. I will wear this a lot in the warmer months. It is bright and pretty and a cheerful blend and a definite keeper for me. I love it a lot.

  16. I need to hunt down my imp of Bread and Butterfly tonight after work to see what it might layer nicely with. Mme. Lapin smells like toast to me with creamy honey and a background of cedar. Since the description of Bread and Butterfly mentions toast, I thought that it might work. Cockaigne does not smell the same on me at all, but that's chemistry for you.

  17. I love that candle scent. The first time that I smelled it, I was so disappointed that there was not a perfume in that scent. I actually thought about just getting a small candle so that I could huff it. I think that I need to run over to Whole Foods and smell it again so that I can compare it to some of the BPAL scents that were mentioned, since I have a few of them. It is so frustrating to fall in love with a candle scent when there isn't a perfume to match. I've done that with a D&S candle before.

  18. Blackbear Moon is gorgeous. I love the lab's black cherry note and in this blend, it is deep and rich and smooth. I think that this is how I always wanted the berry blends to smell. I do smell the pine in this, but it is blended with the berry notes and not off on its own, and for those of you who do not like pine, it is only a supporting player along with the honey. I think that the cherry, berries and musk are the star players here. This is a beautiful blend and I'm glad that I came to my senses and ordered a bottle.

  19. The one jar that I have by the bed right now is one of the white ones, so I can only go by that, since I'm low on the red. I kind of like the way that vanilla and berry scents layer with it. I like vanilla with anything and the berry scents go well with the

clove. I noticed this layering combo one night when I had a cough and put some on my chest after I had slathered myself in Dark Kiss from B&BW. I thought that it smelled really pretty.

That said, I'm thinking in terms of Red Lace, Bordello, Lady Macbeth, Kabuki - you get the picture.

  20. This is one of my favorite lavender blends and I collect them. I love to wear them for sleeping and this is just so pretty. I find the lavender to be about mid-level astringent, not too much, but strong and herbal enough to cut through the sweet notes. It is creamy, but not in a really milky sort of way and it does have a cheesecake aspect. I also love the way that the honey blends with the lavender, because lavender honey is one of my favorites. I wish that I had bought backups of this one so that I wouldn't have to use it so sparingly.

ETA - I am so glad that I do not detect any graham cracker crust. That would have spoiled it for me.
