  1. I originally read all of the reviews for this scent and promptly took it off my list. But it called to me so I got it in a swap. Now I wish I could get more :P

I love this scent! I can kind of see where people are getting the Dr. Pepper scent, but I think it smells a bit more complex on me. And the civet I can smell as well, but it only has a tiny animalistic quality to it and I consider it a good quality.

I honestly get Snake Oil with grapes...very reminiscent of Snake Oil but a little less vanilla-y.

So I'm sad I won't be able to get more of this...and from the above reviews, I doubt many have 5mls...oh well. I still have Snake Oil.

  2. I slathered on Dracul last night (wonderful freebie) and immediately rubbed my arms all over the BF. Man this scent is very erotic and sexual.

I mostly smell the fir, tobacco and orange blossom...but it's a wonderful combination! I absolutely fell in love with it...but it's more of a scent I want to smell on my man than on me. It's VERY spicey and makes me want to bite people who are wearing it (I wrote that forgetting what this scent is named after. Man does Beth know how to make a scent!!!).

It actually smells a lot like Old Spice to me...and I love the classic scent. And the best thing about it: the man likes it too and wore it today :P. Could this be the beginning of his BPAL addiction? He says it smells almost girly to him, but I honestly think he's a bit biased because he thinks everything from BPAL is girly (because girls buy from it...don't ask me how he gets his logic).

This is definitely a sexual, wicked, spicey scent. I think it's gender neutral for sure, but it's a bit more masculine than something like Scherezade because it has a lot more spice to it.

I totally recomment it and will be getting a big bottle for the BF :D

  3. BABA YAGA
Then suddenly the wood became full of a terrible noise; the trees began to groan, the branches to creak and the dry leaves to rustle, and the Baba Yaga came flying from the forest. She was riding in a great iron mortar and driving it with the pestle, and as she came she swept away her trail behind her with a kitchen broom.

Spell-soaked herbs and flowers, cold iron, broom twigs, bundles of moss and patchouli root, and moth dust.

I was going to paste a little bit of information about her, but I found this link has too many good bits to copy: Baba Yaga

In the bottle: This smells bright and cheery to me and a little bit fruity (not citrus or berry though, read down to find out what). It has a nice and inviting smell in the bottle and I associate the color yellow with this one.

Wet: Canned pineapple!! I'm trying to get deeper into this one but the pineapple smell keeps coming back. But it's a sweet, beautiful pineapple smell. Don't be turned off by this. I would never have imagined liking something that someone claims smells like pineapple, but I do!!

Dry: It still smells like pineapple but I can detect more elements at play in the background. There is definitely something floraly in the background. I'm not good with notes but it has a bite like carnation but also smells a bit like jasmine or lily (those are 2 guesses so don't assume I'm right).
I went for a small walk this morning and wow did this one get good when my body temp went up. It totally amped up the spicy/musky scent I'm getting...Oh it was GOOD!
After havning it on for about 2 hours, the scent is still very prominent. It's gone a teeny tiny bit powdery and the bite I got earlier has stayed and is playing a more prominent part in the scent. The pineapple smell has also calmed down a bit and I can smell the flower that is creating the pineapple scent.

Final Verdict: This one gets better and better as I smell and review it. I don't know if I'll get a big bottle of this but I'm definitely keeping my imp!

A note to readers: Baba Yaga went live on the Lab's website on 10/2/09. Any reviews posted prior to that date reflect one of the scent's prototypes and not necessarily the final version. --Shollin

  4. Morrighana, so you're basically saying that it has no bearing on when the lab actually receives the order from CCNow?

I don't even bother looking at my order once it's submitted. I've done 3 orders now and all have come when they were supposed to. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

  5. Oh Morocco, how do I love thee! :P

I've been smelling myself all morning and will try to describe it as best as I can, though I am having a hard time picking out elements.

Bottle: I can't really distinguish anything here, it smells a bit sharp but not unpleasant.

Wet: Oh my god! I almost bit my wrist off. It smells floral without being floraly and a bit spicey (but not cinnamon or clove spicey).

Dry: It's gotten a bit powdery but is nothing like baby powder, so it's still a good thing. I definitely smell musk in the background that gives it a well-rounded scent and makes it warm and inviting. I think the spice is coming from the carnation and if so, I think I need to order every carnation scent in the world! It gives me some of the same warm feelings Snake Oil does (I think the musk is playing a similar role that the vanilla does in Snake Oil, but Morroco is less biting) but it doesn't have any of that incense shop quality to it.

I was really expecting this to be more incensey, more like Scherezade, but it's nothing like that at all. This has officially made it to the top of my favorite list. Unfortunately, it doesn't last as long as some of the other scents. I'v already done 3 applications, but I do think my nose is a bit used to it and is probably WAY more powerful than I think it is.

  6. GROG -- Arrr! Avast ye, matey! This be the scent of pirate rum!

Looks like I'm the first one...I don't know if I'm qualified for this...

In the bottle: This is *very* strong and smells exactly like liquid butterscotch. It has a creaminess to it that made me want to put it on right away.

On: This one smells about the same dry as it does wet. Though the drydown mellows the smell a bit and mixes better with my body chemistry.
It still smells A LOT like butterscotch but there's definitely a booziness there. It smells exactly like this shot I absolutely adore. It's called a Misdemeanor (1/2 crown royal, 1/2 butterscotch liquer).

All in all, this is definitely NOT how I expected this to smell, but I can definitely see how it fits. It smells a bit tropical, way boozy and debauch. I don't know if I could wear this since it is super strong on me but it makes me want to get a drink :P

EDIT: I changed the color of the Lab's description - it doesn't show up in aquamarine, at least not on the plain skin. --Shollin

  7. I love Ulalume. It's a woodsy floral for people who don't like florals.

I think your guess about Ulalume is genuine. It's a soft woodsy scent that isn't overpowering.

Viola is also another woodsy/floral scent, though I did not like this one at all on me.

--- Gentle tea rose, lilac, Calla Lily, and Somalian Rose layered over golden Peruvian amber, Spanish moss, red sandalwood, rosewood, and myrrh, with the lightest touch of Mandarin.

  8. I really wanted to like this one since so many people rave about O.

It smells divine in the bottle! But once I put it on, I smell nasty generic cherry cough syrup. And not the slightly yummy kind, but the icky kind (like cherry nyquil)The warmth transfers into this nasty medicine smell and gets more potent with time.

I've loved every other BPAL scent I've tried except 1...well now 2 :P

I'm hoping some of the other honey scents don't do this to me. I'm thinking it's the amber/honey combo though.

  9. The first time I sniffed Ulalume from the bottle I wasn't terribly impressed. It smelled like dead leaves to me.

After initially putting it on, I smelled the woody ingredients the most. As it dried it just got better and better as the individual scents combined together. It's one of the most complicated scents I've tried from BPAL in that it evokes so many contradictory feelings for me.

After reading the other reviews I do realize now that it is kind of a watery scent. But more a green mossy pond in the middle of the forest than a large body of water. Isis has a really great description of it in her post. I love the way the wood notes linger in the background while the lilies take center stage. They are a great combo and remind of beautiful dried flowers.

This is a sorrowful scent to me. It's floral yes, but it has a depth that doesn't make it a cheery girly scent. I am not terribly into girly floral scents, I like depth and wickedness to my perfumes, so I was initially surprised when I decided to love this floral scent. But Ulalume is no innocent perfume, I guess that's why I like it. And I like it more and more everytime I wear it. I think I'll get a bigger bottle of this one.

  10. I received this as a sample with my latest order, and again a sample has become my favorite of the bunch.

This smelled so sweet and juicy in the bottle that I actually wore it to bed and sniffed my wrists all night under the covers. I've had mixed feelings about dragon's blood resin because it tends to smell really cherryish on me, and I'm not really into food scents. This one surprised me though and is making me rethink my opinion of dragon's blood :P

This one has had fairly good staying power. I wore Jolly Roger yesterday and was sad that it has worn off by 5pm. It's about 5pm now and Blood Amber is still very noticable on my wrist.

Verdict: I think the combination is perfect. I would wear this scent everyday! It reminds me of Snake Oil a little, but instead of the sugary coating, you get a cinnamon one.

  11. This one reminded me of a chanel No. 5 type perfume. It's very musky and seductive. I imagine my grandmother wearing this when she was younger. There's something very glamouros and classic about this scent. I've pulled vintage clothes from the racks that had lingering smells like this one.

Like others, it turned a bit powdery on me, but lasted quite a while. I don't know if it's unique enough for me though. To me, it's a staple classic scent. Something that you can wear and feel confident without being too risky.

  12. This one was very much like baby powder, with a slight spicey scent in the background.

This one lasted a while on me. I'm not too keen on the powder smell, but I don't outright dislike it.

In the bottle it smells like a floral scent I could do. I don't like the pure, innocent, sweet floral perfumes out there. I like my perfumes to have a bite, which this one definitely does. I just wish it would have stayed that way on my skin.

I'm undecided on this one. I'll have to wear it out some more and see if it grows on me.

  13. This one was a freebie imp I received with my purchase...and boy am I glad I got it!

On first sniff I wasn't too sure. I tossed it aside to sample my selected scents. But after going back and taking a second whiff, I was definitely intrigued. I couldn't quite pin down what I was smelling, but after reading some of the reviews I figured it was the coconut. I'm pretty ignorant about a lot of scents so I don't have a lot of experience with the ones used in this love potion.

So, I immediately put it on...and couldn't stop smelling myself! I smelled the rum first, then the chardonnay and coconut smells. It's a perfect blend of sweet, spicey, floral and musky. Even my boyfriend loved it and he's hard to impress.

This could definitely be an everyday perfume for me. I think I'd get a lot of attention...it's so unique and inviting. My favorite so far (coming from someone who likes exotic, sinful scents)!!!!

UPDATE: I am wearing this at work today and a fellow BPAL girl at work has been trying to sniff me all day claiming that she wants to eat me. As long as she does't steal my imp :P

  14. This is such a fascinating scent for me, as it literally takes me away to a dark creaking ship sailing through turbulent weather. It is one of the few scents that stirs all of the senses for me.

I love smelling it in the bottle. I smell the wet wood so vividly.

The darkness of it transferred to my wrist in a more woodsy pine scent, which was a little disappointing. Once it dried though, I got a little bit of the bottle scent back.

This is definitely something you'll want to wear to make a striking impression. It's bold and seductive and not a day scent. I imagine wearing it out on the town to snare my catch or to seal a big business deal. Just don't wear this to meet the in-laws :P

  15. I'm a little undecided about whether I like this one or not.

In the bottle my nose is definitely hit with the spicy ginger. It smells very citrusy as well.

Once I got it on though, the ginger disappeared and I was left with a sickly pine sol scent. It subsided a little after about 5 minutes to a more peaceful scent.

I thought this might be an interesting linen spray or summer room scent. I don't think I'd wear it due to the overpowering lemon scent I get from it. I don't tend to like wearing fruity scents so I'm a little biased.

This one I think I like better in the bottle than on. Smelling it right now from the bottle gives me a good invigorating rush, so maybe I have found a good purpose for it :P

  16. In the bottle it smelled very, very candy sweet.

On, it has died down a bit and like the other posters, it has turned very cinnamony. About 5 minutes later, the cinnamon has subsided and I'm left with a very mellow, almost floral scent with the cinnamon coming out in the background.

It reminds me of spiced cider or those kitschy country knick-knack stores my mom used to drag me into when I was a kid.

It would be nice as a room scent for the holidays.

  17. If you go to your CCNow page where you got the order status info, you should see right above that your order number. It's centered on the page. Mine looks something like this: 12-3345.

I should have checked this thread out sooner because I too have not received my order. But now I don't feel as bad knowing people who ordered way before me haven't gotten their items. I place my order on the 12th and it says it shipped on the 15th. I'm willing to wait until those ahead of me have received their items, though I have been so anxious to get my little imps!
