  1. another suggestion is to dilute the scent in a lotion, so that you get the scent without putting it straight on. I mentor Birthing From Within, and we dolotion on the feet for comfort, all the time.

But keep in mind that a scent you adore non-pregnant, may drive you nuts when you're pregnant, especially in labor.

  2. I have an imp of Chaos Theory 3... labeled "XMV 1015"

Now, I found a review for MXV 1015, and the description is nothing like what I'm smelling in this imp.

Was there a XMV, which would be 995? Or do I really have XMV, and my nose and the original reviewer's work completely different? I suppose it would help if I found out if jenleigh ever decanted her bottle of XMV, wouldn't it?

  3. In the bottle: Warm butter like Jack, with a dash of chocolate, and spices.

Wet on skin: The butter mellows some, and the chocolate comes to the fore, highlighted by the fig and the orange rind.

Dry in skin: the cardamon and the other spices start to take the stage, and it settles into a sweet and spicy mix on my skin.

Not a whole lot of throw on me, but I haven't found many that do. This one is a serious keeper.

  4. ITI: sweet, not cloying, hint of vanilla and something spicier

Wet on Skin: definate vanilla, with an edge. Maybe some coconut?

Dry: soft, sweet, a hint of floral and coconut. If the coconut was stronger, this might devolve into smelling like suntan oil, but the other notes keep it light.

This goes in with my faves.

  5. ITI- Buttery toffee yummyness A little cloying, but not nastily so.

WOS- Still very sweet, melted butter scent

DOS- Not as sweet. Still buttery, with a nice savory undertone. Can catch wafts of something that could almost be turkey, but is probably not!

  6. Goddess of Strife and Discord, constant companion and sometime consort to Ares. She is a fickle, chaotic Goddess of Bedlam whose greatest passion is the sowing of dissention and turmoil. A suitably disjointed scent, bursting with gleeful mayhem: wet fruits and sharp mimosa with Martial spices and a deceptive flash of floral.

I was gonna lose Popess Points if this one didn't work on me, but...

    ITI- mild fruit juice
Wet on Skin- Warm applesauce with a bit of a kick.
Dry on Skin- It smells like the alcoholic drink this guy I used to know made. Liquid apple pie.

This one stayed wet on my skin a whole lot longer than most have.

  7. Lusty myrtle and jasmine with red sandalwood, stargazer lily, and clove over an opulent, rich bed of warm musk and bourbon vanilla.

    ITI: not bad, kinda indistinct.

Wet: Gardenia? Warm floral, something sweet. pikake? *looks it up* Jasmine! But not cloying like it can get on me.

Dry: Nice. The floral and vanilla is balancing the sandalwood out nicely.

Not a beloved, but a keeper.

  8. Quicky 5 minutes on body review.

Pine? Spruce? Very strong smell of something woody and musky. It reminds me of something, and it's driving me nuts that I can't place it.

    Longer review:

Really strong at first, almost overpowering.

After a while this really settled into something nice, but still intense. The lemon and the vetiver seem to alternate in waves past my nose.

I really like it, but I think this is one that'll get mixed with a plain lotion so it doesn't hit me quite so hard.

  9. If you're not applying to the skin, there's little risk of toxicity to the fetus, except in that list of specifically contraindicated oils.

You can go the a fabric or craft store and get a square of felt, cut it into little 1/2 inch squares, and assign each square an oil. Then dab the oil on that square, and carry it around with you for an hour or so. If you feel at all uncomfortable, lightheaded or headachy, then you can put that square aside, and note that that scent has adverse effects on you. Only test one scent a day like this though, so you don't overwhelm your senses.

  10. The other thing to consider is that your sense of smell will change during pregnancy, so approach all smells with caution.

Using them in scent lockets, or on a scented hankie, rather than on the skin, is a good idea. Using it diluted is safer, too

Within the context of using EOs and aromatherapy, EOs are highly concentrated, so err on the side of caution. That list above is pretty comprehensive, and there's some other good books on aromatherapy in pregnancy out there.
