  1. Two scents that I like very much that are "woodsy" are Godfather Death and Old Demons of the First Class.

Old Demons doesn't have any wood in it, actually, but it is perfect for a crisp winter day -- the Siberian musk and the pepper are really wonderful. It's a great guy scent.

Godfather Death is a very dry and crisp scent -- I pick up fennel and wood from it. It's another good winter scent for me, though there's not a hint of sweetness so I use it sparingly.

I quite like your screen name. I hope there aren't too many bombs dropping in your neighborhood.

Ha, thanks. Yeah, I certainly think some scents inspired by Pynchon would be interesting and creative. "Oedipa Mass", "Brenschluss Point" etc...infinite possibilities. Thanks for the reccs.

  2. Ranger is pretty amazing, smells like leather in the middle of a verdant wood, very masculine.

I would appreciate any updated scent recs...I am a guy who wears woodsy scents well, but I might have that covered now that I have (and love) Lear, Tombstone, and Cathedral. In another direction, I also have Dorian, and The Gentleman..both of which also work very well.

Where can I go next? One thing I have discovered is that patchouli is not ideal on me...so that might eliminate quite a few. Perhaps a cleaner, single note-ish scent rec? Ethereal or ozone-like?

  3. Lime, lilac and tobacco.

More along the lines of male cologne. Sophisticated, warm, subtle.

I quite like it...it lasts longer on me than many other scents too, for some reason. For example, I like Lear, but it disappears really fast...must be something to do with my Ph

  4. A dapper cologne, distant and refined: white musk, lime rind, and rosemary water with tobacco leaf and lilac.

I like this scent, although I would classify it more in the department of coy gentleman in the armchair than sexy or on the prowl...nothing wrong with that sort of afternoon mood though....

Tobacco Leaf is definitely prevalent....an old-fashioned but everyday sort of pipe tobacco...with a friendly vanilla note. The musk and lilac bring in that warm vanilla tone, without it having a sense that vanilla has simply been added....This trio also gives it a leather note too, so there is indeed the sense of a gentleman entering a study or a library.

  5. I agree with Tombstone, but I also recommend Lear: White cedarwood, blue sage and bay leaf. It sounds really sharp and harsh, but it's actually very light and smooth. A white pencil, maybe? *chuckles*

    Hi Catalyst,

I will def get Tombstone then, but I have to say it is Lear that started this whole thing. I received it as an imp, and just found it is one I like myself, but that others don't necessarily care either way about! Perhaps that is a topic of its own, or I am sure it already is somewhere. I really learned how I like cedar as a personally calming scent...for whatever reason. Lear was interesting, because people don't really seem to notice it on me, but I find it amongst the most noticeable scents I can sense on myself! Why is that? Perhaps this perfectly fits the loneliness and befuddled isolation of the perfume's namesake!

  6. Thank you Sophie, those are amazing recs...thanks for taking the time. In addition to the Tombstone which you linked with Lush (my partner used to work there, and I do like alot of their skin and hair things) I really like the sound of Titus Andronicus and the last one...the sexy one!

I would like to think I'd have some cred considering my handle is SophieCedar... hahahah just kidding.

Really though, Tombstone is an awesome cedar scent. My husband adds it to his homemade pomade every day after shampooing with Lush's Fair Trade Honey. The combo smells fucking divine! (sorry for the sailor mouth but he hit gold on this one and I had to share)

  7. I've had some great recommendations for male/androgynous scents...Love this forum...I now wish to have a couple more recommendations for wood scents (which I wear well)...I saw the Sandalwood thread and had great recommendation for White Rider which interests me as one with Sandalwood....is there also a sexy Cedar one that leaps out for anybody? ;)
