  1. This smells weird. I don't think currant and fig is my favorite note combination, and that's what I smell. Plus pepper. It smells kinda sour. It doesn't smell bad, it just smells strange, and it's a little distracting because I keep wondering what that smell is. I wear perfume that makes me feel happy or comforted in some way, and this one just smells confusing to me. I don't dislike it, but I don't think it suits me.

Lines Written Among the Euganean Hills

Anything with a cold note in it invariably doesn't work for me... except in this, apparently. It's sweet, chilly, and very pretty. It seems like the frozen part is about equally as strong as the fir and berries. I have a couple of cold perfumes already (Snow Bunny and Snow-Flakes), and that's probably all I need for a wintery type of scent. This one is very good, though. If I hadn't already decided I liked those a long time ago, I would want this one.

    Pontia

Blue, sweet, chalky lavender. The end.

    Eanach Dhuin

When I first put it on, I thought it smelled exactly like soap, and then about two minutes later it smelled exactly like cologne. A sweet, hazy, aquatic cologne. It smells cool, fresh, and clean. It's a little darker than your standard aquatic cologne -- about as rugged as something watery can smell -- and I like it. I liked it enough that I passed the decant over to my husband, and he likes it too.

    Frau Holle

Whoa. This one is *cough* strong. *cough, cough* *wipes eyes* Herbs and pine trees and snow. Very harsh. Not soft snow at all. Sort of like being smashed in the middle of an evergreen tree and someone is waving sharp herbs under my nose. Yikes. This is very clearly not my fave. *cough*

    The Rose

Beautiful soft roses. Not sharp, nothing too green, lovely whisper-soft petals. Very, very pretty. I am not a rose gal at all, but this is lovely. I'm so picky about rose scents that only a couple have worked for me -- Peacock Queen and Moon Rose were both rose-note favorites of mine. This one is right up there with those.

    Man With Phallus Head

It's a little powdery all the way through -- wet and dry stages -- but in this one I don't mind that as much as I usually do. It's soft, musky, and very nice. I noticed a fruity scent when I first put it on (currant, I guess), but when it's dry I can't smell any kind of fruit as much as I can smell the honey. None of the notes are going weird on me -- they're all playing nicely. You know, I think these penisy ones work out pretty well for me. This one, Penis Admiration, Fascinum... I tend to like them. I'm not head over heels for this scent because there's nothing hugely WOW about it, it's just very soft and musky and nice. Comfy. I like it.

    Crimson Christmas

When I first put it on, it smelled very much like something my husband would wear. Masculine. Cologne-ish. A little smoky and dark. And when it was dry, it smelled like a cross between laundry and some sort of candle that you burn to make your room smell nice. Very homey and comfy. Smells like Saturday afternoon at my house. It's not the type of thing I wear as perfume, but I like the scent.

    Tcotchkie

Smells like dessert at first -- promising -- but then goes weird. Eucalyptus, I guess. Tingles my nose. But the dessert scent doesn't go away. It's odd. Eucalyptus is far from my favorite note, and this combination isn't working for me.

    The Unsavory Grave-Diggers

Oak and booze, and a hint of dirt. Some kind of greenery in there. It's very sweet. This is not my kind of scent at all, but I sorta can't stop sniffing it. I'm really surprised at how much I like it. Hunh. I can't really see myself wearing it, but I most definitely do like it. I think it's the sort of thing I'd really like as a room scent rather than a perfume.

    Hideous Heart

First it smelled pretty evenly like cherries and licorice, and then CINNAMON. I can still smell some licorice under there, but I think the cinnamon put cement shoes on the cherries and tossed them overboard. All three of these notes -- cherry, licorice, and cinnamon -- are notes I'm picky about, but every once in a while I find one that works really well. Not this one. This one's kind of a mess on me.

    The Black Swan

Very pretty. A deep aquatic floral with an extremely appealing moss. It smells both soft and watery at the same time. The florals really come out when it's dry, and they're lovely florals. (I like peony.) Normally I don't wear scents like this much, but I like this one quite a lot.

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Wow, I just looked at the new Price Caps database after reading this. It rocks! That makes things a whole lot easier.

    Kourabiedes

TheIceMaiden described exactly what I'm smelling: Light cookie with anise and clove. That's exactly what it smells like to me. Plus sugar, and some kind of nut. Strangely (because these notes tend to be long-lasting on me) I can really only smell the spices at the beginning. Then it's a sweet nutty cookie scent that smells yummy, but oddly a little bit like it's on fire. Possibly that's the clove engaging in some unauthorized activity on my skin.

    Chocolate Espresso Gingerbread

LOOOOOOOOOOVE. The blend of the different scents in this is just right. Perfect. Gingerbread Poppet is sometimes a little too gingerbready for me, but this one is amazing. The chocolate seems to be the dominant note on me, but it blends so well with the espresso and gingerbread that it's hard to pick out where one ends the the other begins. I also wish we could buy a bottle of this.

    Shortbread Snowflakes

Starts off like a cross between Beaver Moon 05 and Sugar Cookie, but fairly quickly turns quite minty on me -- like a whiff of peppermint sticks. Not a bad combination at all. It smells mostly like a wintered-up version of Beaver Moon on me. It's cute!

    Hunter

Hunh. This smells like my husband. Must be similar to a BPAL oil he wears a lot, but honestly I don't know which one it is. It smells like a combination of his leather BPALs (of which he has quite a few) and the shampoo and soap he uses. Like he just got out of the shower and put on some perfume oil. Obviously I wouldn't be able to wear this since it smells exactly like him and not like me, but I'll definitely give him the decant to try. How strange. I've never had this experience before, of smelling something that smells exactly like my husband. His pillow smells just like this. Really.

    Brusque Violet

Violet petal, violet leaf, osmanthus, orris, mint, and opoponax. When I put this on, I immediately thought of Libertine, even though I haven't smelled that in about four years. I liked Libertine -- the smooth pretty plush violet -- and I like this for the same reason. It smells purple and bright and happy, while smelling soft at the same time. My husband, however, did not like that sort of scent ("Smells like old-lady purple") and asked me not to wear it. So I don't think he'd appreciate me wearing this one either. He just doesn't like anything with violet.

    L'Examen de Minuit

Smells like lilac and frankincense with a bare smidge of plum, little to no rose, and noticeable myrrh. And this would have worked for me if my review had read like this: Smells like lilac and plum with a bare smidge of myrrh, little to no rose, and NO noticeable frankincense. Ahhh, so close. But frankincense is almost always a killer note for me, and in this one it's too strong.

    The Forest Reverie

I didn't look at the notes before I put this on, and I sniffed it for a while and let it dry. THEN I looked at the notes. Grape? Wha--? I went back and sniffed it and realized that yeah, I guess I can smell some grape. Didn't know it until I saw it was in there, though. Mostly what it smells like is a deep dark scent that's very reminiscent of some kind of resin, with a whole lot of opium smoke. It's sweet, too, in that way that resins can smell sweet. Like pine sap. That kind of sweetness. Not usually my type of scent, but I gotta admit it smells very at home on me on this cold winter's night.

    Overprotective Possessed Talking Doll

Woo, that's sweet. I was thinking that it was a bit tart, but that seemed okay because it smelled kind of liquidy instead of chalky, and I can handle tart that's not chalky. But then when it was dry it kinda went chalky. Like the candy powder that's left in the bottom of the bag. This strawberry doesn't smell juicy like I like strawberry to smell, it's just really sweet and candyish. I already have a couple of strawberry favorites, so I'll pass this one along.

    Sara Pezzini

Up close, it's sweet and musky with leather, but from a distance all I can smell is sleek leather. BPAL's leather notes are pretty much all fabulous -- so far I don't think I've found one that didn't work on me -- which makes it problematic narrowing down which ones I want to keep. They all smell good. I really like this musky smooth one. But do I like it more than my other leather perfumes? Nanny Ashtoreth knocked my socks off, and this one isn't quite doing that, although I am enjoying it. I wonder how many leather perfumes one person should reasonably have. I feel like two should be enough. So I guess I won't keep this one. I feel kind of sad letting it go, though.

    Moon of the Terrible

I wasn't interested in this when it came out because snow, lavender, and herbs are all notes I avoid. Figured this one would be pretty blech on me. SHOCKER!! It's not blech at all. Yeah, the lavender is a little strong when I first put it on, but that always happens. It calms down after a few minutes, and what's left is a crisp, slightly chilly, fresh scent. Not overly snowy (a bloody miracle, for me -- I really amp snow notes), not too much lavender or herbs at all. I like it. My only complaint is that it's faint and doesn't seem to last long on me. I've tried it three times now (continuously surprised that I keep liking it), and it always fades out into a very soft crisp scent after about 20 minutes. Honestly, it really is very pretty, but I feel like I'd basically have to coat my entire skin in it a couple of times in order to smell it.

    Morphô

This smells like a bright floral (very similar to violets, on me) but with a blast of jasmine added to it. Although I like the bright floral scent of this, the jasmine isn't a plus for me. It's better than 90% of the jasmine blends I've tried, though.

    The Lady On The Grey

I really wanted to try this one because I'm so picky about florals but that description sounded like this might be the sort of floral I like. Well, I was half-right. This is one of the ones that's heading in the right direction but gets waylaid by a problem note. It's not heady -- it's soft and fairly light. It certainly has an ethereal quality. BUT the amber is making it powdery. My skin has trouble with some ambers, and this kind isn't the kind I can wear, unfortunately. Minus the powder, I like the scent, but I feel like I've smelled this before. A few times. There's a note in here (don't know which one -- I'm not very good at picking out floral notes) that's particularly strong, and it's familiar to me. Except I think whatever I've smelled it in before, that other blend worked better for me.
