    TKO (fizzyBOOM)

I'm one of those decadent people who will dump an entire imp into my bath for the heck of it but even I feel a little bad using an entire one of these for one bath. I even left it sitting on the counter for a week because it made my bathroom smell so lovely and I couldn't bear to do it yet. Finally pushing that aside, I dropped it in. Satisfying plop and a ton of fizz later I was enveloped in a warm blanket of smelly goodness. I actually passed out in the bathtub and woke some time later to cold water but a feeling of such gorgeous relaxation. And my skin was so soft and delicately scented. What an amazing little bomb! I haven't tried the oil yet and I certainly hope it's this lovely because I'm already missing my TKO. I don't think I'll miss the fizzyBOOMs in general but if there was any way to just keep the TKO fizzy in powder form I would most definitely stock up on it! Otherwise I'll have to try making my own because I'm hooked!

    Pink Moon 2007

I'm so in love with the idea of these sugared florals. They sound divine and it seems they ARE divine on certain people. But not on me. On me, they cause my stomach to roll and Pink Moon is no exception. Sticky sweet with a hint of carnation (which I LOVE by the way) but no green and not enough spice to balance out the overbearing sweetness. But oooh the label! I'm severely tempted to keep just for the label. I wonder if this would age well.......?

    Centzon Totochtin

For some reason this scent reminds me of something, although I'm unsure what it is. I usually shy away from anything with wine in it because it usually smells like grape soda on me but this is really interesting. It evokes scenes of debauch; bitter chocolate, wine and blood. It's sexy and hot-blooded. Now if I could only figure out what it reminds me of.......

    Enraged Groundhog Musk

Lately anything remotely sweet has just made me feel ill. Even though I love caramel in Red Lantern, in anything else, it turns my stomach. I thought this was just how I am until I felt a little queasy sniffing my beloved Alice this morning. Maybe I'm just going through a small hormonal change. So I'm going to give this another try. For now, it makes my stomach turn but the chocolate didn't turn all weird and plasticky like it normally does. I think it's the tartness of the cherry that keeps it in check and there's a musky undertone that keeps it all from being exclusively foodie. I reminds me a bit of Velvet that way. I'm going to hold onto it and see if I can get past these weird phase and then I'll try it again.

    Western Diamondback

I'm one of those rare and sad people on whom Snake Oil just smells kind of blah. So I really looked forward to trying these in hopes that one of them would smell awesome on me. Something in this just brings out the sweet sugared incense that refused to come out before. I think it's the sage and the leather lends it a rugged, southwest feel. It's gorgeous and despite being pretty masculine it works for me. As someone born in raised in Arizona, I just couldn't resist it.

    Hope

This is a sweet rose but it doesn't set my stomach churning like Two Five and Seven did. It's delicate and soft, just the kind of scent you'd wear on a hot summer day. A nice counterpoint to the edgier rose in Peacock Queen. It fades pretty quickly on my wrist but the throw is good and it's so worth a bit of extra slathering. I think Hope is now my summer rose! ETA: Nope I take that back. It's so sweet it makes my head twinge and my stomach roll. Why can't Hope & Faith be delicious on me like it is on you lucky people?! All I get is rose and violet as interpreted by artificial flavor and high fructose corn syrup. *pouts*
  7. jessiesquash

    Faith

Apparently Faith and I are not meant to be which is a shame because violets have special meaning to me. In the bottle it was sweet but also a tiny bit spicy. On I get nothing but pure sugar and it makes my head ache ferociously and my stomach roll. Poor Faith, it seems I must seperate her from her sister.

    Tiresias, the Androgyne

I took one look at the notes on this and thought, ooh it's as if Red Lantern and Mme Moriarty had little androginous babies! In the bottle, I was still getting that lovely smoky caramel that I love in Red Lantern. On me though, sweet sticky mess. Ick. I don't know what is about this scent but it made my stomach roll and it would not come off!! I could still smell it on my wrists 24 hours later. It figures the only scent that lingers that long be one I can't wait to get off. Blech

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Since no one answered this and I was just thinking about this....Mama-ji smells like a milder version of Mum Moon and without the horrid cat pee note I get with the latter. I'd also like to second someone else's mention that Vixen is a lot like Mme Moriarty. I tested Vixen and had to keep double checking the imp.

    Tweedledee

OMG attack of the killer orange blossom!! I smell like I was forceably leied by agressive women in grass skirts and then some made waiter came up and ground pepper into my eyes. Aack must. wash. off. I'm so sad. Everyone has liked at least one or the other but neither Dee nor Dum work on me. *cries*

    The Ecstasy of True Love

Sniffed in the bottle, I get something really interesting. I mean really like nothing else I've ever sniffed. I couldn't even place it or break it down into notes. It was slightly unpleasant but sometimes the most gorgeous blends offend my nose straight out of the bottle. On it went instantly to dryer sheet of doom and stayed that way until I washed it off. I was wary because of the frankincense but it didn't even have a chance to be evil. *sob* Damn dryer sheets! Off to the swap pile with ye.

    Mama-Ji

Sniffed in the bottle this is pretty; well blended but I'm detecting the spices. On it's a little meh. Light throw. Nothing is standing out. Oh no, where's the gorgeousness that everyone else is getting?! But all of a sudden it starts to warm up. It becomes richer, slightly spicier. It's becoming this gorgeous, womanly perfume that is absolutely radiating out from me. I even smell it in the air around me but it's not overpowering. It took a little patience but Mama-ji in dry-down phase is amazing! Rich and deep, warm and soft......like sitting under a warm blanket by a fire. It's what Mum Moon almost was except for the note that turned to cat pee on me.

    Thalassa, the Galapagos Mermaid

Wow, this is gorgeous! I hoped and hoped that this would work. I had a texturizing spray from Bath & Body Works made of kelp and I just loved it and I've always kind of been looking for something similar. Lo and behold, Thalassa is it! Classic aquatic with just enough salty spray to really envoke the deep green ocean. It has great throw and staying power. And there is something slightly sweet that just holds it all together. This will be a great scent for those hot summer days!

    the madness

What is it about knowing that you will have new bpal waiting for you at home that makes working so unbearable!!! I for sure have a box from the lab filled with tons of goodies and I'm hoping a box from the trading post too. But either way, it's there, mocking me, calling me, whispering, "Jessie, come open me....sniff me....you know you want to." But I can't. I have to work. But I will sneak off at lunch and go check my mail! Muahahahahahaha
  15. jessiesquash

    love me, love me not

I know this is not related to bpal at all but if anyone reads this, I need advice! So there's this boy....haha I sound like I'm in High School again! Anyway, we work together at JC Penney; but we do such different things that we never see each other. Let's call him L. I knew him from before JCP because I also work for a college where he was a student until very recently. I just recently took the job at JCP for some extra money. Naturally I wasn't allowed to pursue anything until he graduated but I've had a tiny crush on him for awhile now. My best friend also works there. My best friend is on a mission to hook us up and she's very persistant, she sees him often since their departments are right next door. Now I don't know the specifics but apparently the question of his manliness came up; he works in the salon so it happens quite often, and in defense he said a few things about his moves and how great of kisser he was and some girl that worked there verified. A lot of this was joking around, though he was being a bit of a pig. I think my friend called him on it because then he said that there was one girl that he knew before she worked there (JC Penneys) that he really respected. My best friend asked him if it was me and he said 'maybe'. So what, if anything, does that mean? Respect me? Like a sister or a friend? Of course, we don't even know if he was talking about me. I don't know everyone that works there. But by saying 'maybe' it implies that it is me. If it wasn't, surely he would have said no.....right? My friend "knows" that he was talking about me and is of the opinion that he was saying he's interested in more than having a fling with me. So what is he looking for then, a relationship? He hasn't even asked me out yet! And he doesn't seem like the shy type. The worst part is that I'm a hopeless wreck when it comes to flirting. I get nervous and stupid and can't conjure up complete sentences to save my life. And if he really is interested, he's just as bad. Once we are together and actually talking, we're fine but what leads up to that is usually a lot of comedic error. I'd ask him out myself but see above. It would probably end badly. I don't care what anyone says, ze boys ze make no sense.

    Priala, the Human Phoenix (2006)

I have to confess that, in general, the CD scents don't like me. I've found a few but I envy those that are really finding a lot that work. My budget is thrilled of course. Luckily, there is a lot still to try..... In the bottle, Priala is warm and spicy. I can definitely smell the myrrhs and the cinnamon. I was a bit worried about being burned by the cinnamon but it smells so yummy, I can't resist. The cinnamon doesn't burn oddly enough! I'm sure it will another time but this scent is so incredible, I really don't care! Myrrh is generally a good note for me but this is absolutely gorgeous....even more so maybe than Mme Moriarty! It's not too sweet or too spicy; it just sits nicely in between. What fantastic imagery too! This is the stage just before the Phoenix bursts into flames; she smolders as a cloud of ash blows gently around her. I need a bottle......or two...or ten! I can definitely see this in my top ten!

    Bakeneko

Since I seem to live with a Bakeneko (my destructo-kitty Hermes) I thought it only appropriate that I test this. It's spicy but not in that burns-my-skin kind of way, it's a softer spice. It literally smells like warmth, like curling up in front of a roaring fire with a cup of tea, a good book and your furry friend(s). I smell ginger and definitely the orange, although it's not overpowering any of the other notes. The amber musk gives it just the right amount of depth and staying power. I went to bed with this dabbed on my wrists and when I woke up, it was still there! I love when that happens. Overall, it's not something that made me die of olfactory bliss but it's pretty and it lasts. It smells a bit like a tea blend I really like. I'll keep the three decants I was lucky enough to snag and maybe use it as a room scent. I wonder if Hermes would let me dab a bit on his ears......... haha just kidding, I value the use of my legs!!

    The Oblation

In the bottle this was not what I expected, very herbal and mostly lavender. Where's the blackberry and the honey? On my skin I get almost exclusively lavender, very sharp and pungent. I gave up on this blend pretty quickly but decided to try it again because others went through that same pungent phase. I should have known better however, because honey is not my friend. The lavender calmed down alright and then left me with sickeningly sweet honey. I couldn't wait to get it off. I'm glad I tried it though because you never know. I'm constantly being surprised.

    Dolce Stil Nuovo

It seems very heavy to me in the bottle, a bit like Flower Moon was me. All I could think was, oh great instant headache! BUT on this was very different. The florals were more subdued than I excected and blended well together with the golden amber. It almost shimmers on my skin if that makes any sense. A friend told me she thought it smelled like a couple of my perfumes mixed together but I pick up something slightly different. It's a bit like a cross between Midnight on the Midway and House of Mirrors. I like it. It's clean and sweet and not too heady. All the elements blend together without effort to create a simple, pretty scent. I only have about an imps worth but I think that's all I'll need. Ooh and the label is stunning! Fantastic work Macha!!

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Seconded! This is one of my favorite non-bpal fragrance and a friend of mine would become an instant bpal-addict if I could find something similar. She's resisting but not for long.....*insert evil laugh here*

    Highwayman

Oooh this is an interesting one! First on, I definitely got the leather and what I thought was lavender but I think is a combination of the rose and vetiver. I also caught the tiniest whiff of gardenia. Now that the it has dried a bit, I'm starting to detect the jasmine but its not doing anything strange for once! I keep waiting for the cinnamon to emerge and possibly burn my skin but it never does. I can almost get it but its so well blended and so subtle, I can't get a hold on it. I really like this! I can see how this would smell fabulous on the right guy but it's just right on me too. Neither masculine nor feminine and clean and fresh without being soapy. This would make a great everyday scent for summer. *added to my bottle wishlist*

    2007 Booklist.

I love Margaret Atwood! Have you read Blind Assassin? It was my first Atwood book and I just loved it.

    I hate my life sometimes.

Please disregard any residual joy from my last post as it is gone. I won't be able to place that much anticipated order. Just when I thought I was ahead and was ready to treat myself.......I forget to log a debit and my account goes overdraft. The fees sucked up every last scent. No new BPAL for Jessie for the moment. Thank god I didn't actually place the order and then find out I was broke! Thank goodness for small favors.

    A Windfall!

I just came into a handful of money thanks to my Grampa so now I can place a rather large order!! I know that I want to submit myself for the Inquisition for sure. I don't even know if whether I'd prefer Agony or Ecstasy...except that I like the Ecstasy t-shirt....so I think I'll just leave it up to them to decide. I'm hoping I'll get what I'm meant to.......or I'll just trade until I do. Oooh and a couple of the fizzyBOOMS!! (Grr and either Seduction or Quietude...I haven't decided which yet.) Now that I have a bathtub.....!!!!!!!!! As for the rest of my order, I'm going to order: The Parliament of Monsters Arachnina Eshe Faiza Asp Viper Hope & Faith Meskhenet Thalassa Tiresias Zarita Priala Abhisarika Khandita Salon Exhibit I imp pack And a 5ml of Anubis because I've been putting it off for far too long and I really want it. *squee* This is going to be a fabulous order!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A Windfall!
