    Van Van

I have been wanting to write this review for a while, but keep changing my mind as how to describe Van Van. I find the scent to be compelling in a weird way. I'm with the "lemon" crowd, that's the predominant note for me. But it's not foodie, and it's not furniture polish, and it's not exactly a creamy scent. There is an undertone to it that almost, but not quite, seems somewhat rank, dark and unpleasant to me. But then sometimes it does seem drier, more powdery, more like lemongrass baking in the sun in a ditch by the side of a dusty road. I realize none of those descritions really sound all that attractive. So, go figure......I can't stop sniffing. It's that compelling. I suspect what I am mostly smelling is vetiver. Apparently it does feature heavily in all the traditional Van Van blends, so I suspect it does here, too. And, I've discovered that on me, all the scent blends that I've tried with vetiver don't agree with me much, at least so far. If there's any vetiver, I end up smelling mostly just that. And I'm not sure I want to smell like vetiver. But as I've said, I find the scent compelling, and have used (diluted with some jojoba oil) in my oil burner. Specifically, I did this the night before my spouse (he's an attorney) had an important mediation. I spread out a drop on all my fingers, and gave him a nice scalp and head massage. He had a great result the next day. I think it's very empowering. I know the scent really makes me feel both relaxed and grounded, which is partly why I must find it so compelling. I can also see using a few drops of this blend in the tub.....it would make a nice bath soak both before or after rough days. I may be reaching for this often during the upcoming holiday with my extended family.......
  2. I second Iceblink's recommendation of Vixen. It has a VERY Snake Oil-like vibe to me. To me, it seemed like Snake Oil with patchouli heart rather than a musky base.....like the love child of Snake Oil and LUSH's Karma fragrance. Good luck! And have fun with your search!

    Belle Époque

Initial impression: Definitely all about the mandarin orange, very upfront, with a vague "spiciness" that is most likely the opium/sandalwood duo. Wearing: As this warms on my skin, I'm reminded of both "Vixen" and "Ravenous", as this smells like a sandalwood, rather than patchouli version. I never do get any lily of the valley straight out, but there's a "fresh" aspect to this that I suspect IS the lily of the valley, brightening this blend considerably. Fortunately, this is grounded well enough with the sandalwood (and perhaps the opium, was well) that it doesn't go all weirdly soapy on me. Verdict: I like this very much, and could definitely see wearing it.....however, it fades fast on me. I don't mind slathering for an exceptional scent, but that does put Belle Epoque a little further down on my wish list than it would have been otherwise.

    Zorya

Initial impression: This is a LOT more subtle than I figured it'd be, given the list of notes, but this is subtle in a GOOD way. It's also very nicely blended, in the vial, and wet on my skin, it just gives me hints of notes rather than whapping me in the face with one note after another. Wearing: This is all about the jasmine, and the other slightly aquatic floral note in the beginning, on me. It goes through a real temperature shift with me, starting out very "cool", and warming up considerably as the spices come out. This is a much more Oriental blend as it dries. Verdict: I really enjoyed the drydown process on this one, and was thinking, yupyupyup, will be getting a large bottle of this in the near future. However, after an hour or so, I'm getting the occasional "Motel 6 soap" smell, which is too bad, but many florals seem to go that way with me. Sigh.

    Eve

Initial impression: I had to double-check the list of notes on this one. Like Lanet, in an earlier review, my nose was smelling "lilac". Not the big, wild, purple ones my momma use to grow, but the white ones from my gramma's yard. Weird. I guess my nose is taking the apple blossom/rose/ylang-ylang triumverate and making it LILAC. Go figger. Wearing: This just says "springtime" to me....even in November. It's very fresh, very lush and "green" sort of scent. Wearing it, I DO get the roses, rather than the lilac scent, nice pretty roses, and the ylang-ylang isn't doing the nasty with my chemistry, which sometimes takes ylang-ylang and interprets it as a slightly rank and rotting smell. Not nice. This also doesn't go all Dial Soap on me, which sometimes happens with florals and me. On the negative side, however, I don't get any honey, which I LOVE. Wah. Verdict: This is light and pretty.....perhaps too much so for my tastes. Nuthin' wrong with it, just not something I picture myself wearing very often. If I'd gotten more "honey" with this, it might have grounded it in a way that appealed to me more......I may use this as room/linen spray. Or, come to think of it, I may use my impies to layer with more heavily honey-oriented scents (Honey Moon and O come to mind) and see how that appeals to me.

    Come to Me

This is VERY straightforward on me....in the imp, wet on my skin, and dry it smells like a single note lily of the valley....I LOVE that scent. Very much reminds me of the little vial bottle of AnaisAnais I had in high school, that had it's own little cute wooden container. It's lovely. Of course, I'm not giving this a fair test drive, as I'm home alone with a napping pre-schooler, but heck, we'll see what happens later.......

    Love Me

So different in the imp vs. on my skin! In the imp, I do get the astringent/cedary note, and that is predominant. But the minute this touches my skin, it becomes ENTIRELY different! I smell like a spicy cupcake, or a coffeecake, with creamy frosting. YUM! Cinnamon, very foody, plus maybe some clove and allspice. All very bakery-like, and extremely tasty. Will have to test it on the husband, but, personally, I think I smell pretty darn tasty. We'll see if he agrees..... Regardless of how this works, however, it's worth wearing just for the lovely wafting spices.

    French Love

I too, get the slightly-spicy cherry thang with this one. I wish I was more familiar with Dragon's Blood scents, but I believe that's the predominant note with this, at least on me. The spices are subtle, but in the same neighborhood as my beloved Sybaris, so that's a plus for me. But it's a softly sweet scent overall.....I agree with those who say "carnal sin? WTF?" because it doesn't exactly say that to me....then again, this blend isn't exactly FOR me, is it? As far as efficacy goes, well, that will have to wait until after the arrival home of the husband this evening.....we'll see......

    Vixen

Lascivious, flirtatious, and vampy as hell. A true heartbreaker’s perfume. The innocence of orange blossom tainted by the beguiling scents of ginger and patchouli. I totally get the comparisons to Snake Oil.....same church, same side of the aisle, different pew. This reminds me of the love child of Snake Oil and LUSH's Karma.....the comparisons to a sexed-up Karma are dead on. In the Vial: Orange-y patchouliness. With something else lurking beneath that turns out to be...... Wet:.....GINGER! At first, in all-caps-shouting-style, but that calms down as it dries and the scent becomes very nicely blended. I get a bit of the chocolate/ginger-y thang during the drydown......totally triggered a poignant scent-memory for me of making chocolate dipped candied ginger a few years back as a treat for my mother, who was undergoing some VERY rough chemo at the time. Dry: Nice lasting power, better than average for a BPAL scent. I thought this scent might be superfluous for me, as I have plenty of Karma on hand, but this does have a totally slinkier feel to it......I have a feeling I will go big-bottle on this in the near future. I'm such a slut for LEs, it's always good for me to find a GC scent that makes me go YAY! For those on whom Snake Oil goes plastick-y or Play-Doh, you should give this a try....even if you don't normally cotton to patchouli scents you may well find that this "works" for you. I'm looking forward to trying out the Love Potion aspects of this.....perhaps after pre-school daughter's bedtime tonight I'll arrange for my husband to meet up with a Vixen........

    High John the Conqueror

I got this as a lovely frimpy from the Lab. Intrigued with the concept, but somewhat ignorant of what "High John the Conqueror" might be all about, I set to a-googling, and found this site , which was already mentioned in a review by Bean Rua. The description mentioned that High John the Conqueror root is usually considered to be the root of Ipomoea jalapa, which puts it in the morning glory family. The scent is described as a "unique, spicy fragrance, reminiscent of a combination of cherry-scented pipe tobacco, vetivert, cedarwood, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and mace." I thought this description was pretty spot-on for what I was getting from the scent....where other people were getting "grapes", I was definitely getting a more cherry-oriented scent, that's for sure. This scent doesn't morph much on me, from the vial, while wet, and then on drydown, this is a soothing, "round" scent. And it's so well blended that (as with many of the voodoo/hoodoo oils) my nose doesn't pull any one particular scent. I will mention that I do get a lemon-y vetivert-ish whiff or two, but unlike many scent oils with a vetivert note, it does NOT overtake the entire blend. The web site also mentioned some of the traditional uses for the root, and for the oil, and also had some fascinating information about the references to this root in blues music. I have to say, it gave a whole new interpretation to me regarding Willie Dixon's classic and oft-covered "Hoochie-Coochie Man". And all this time, I'd thought all that talk of "root rubbing" was.....well...... OK, I admit it, I have a naughty mind..... Now I get the delicious double-entendre of the lyrics. Wikipedia mentioned that sometimes St. Johns Wort is considered the High John root, but I agree with the commentary that it seems unlikely.....St. John Wort has fine, hairy root system (I've grown it) that doesn't really seem to jibe with the whole idea of a tuberous root that you could rub, or put in a mojo bag. Voodoo/hoodoo properties: Well, I very much like the scent for itself, and could see layering this, or using on its own with no problem. It's a light, somewhat feminine scent, very sweet, (though not cloyingly so) which surprised me as the name seems very, well "masculine" and the stuff I read about it does seem to emphasize its male energy. The root itself looks a bit like a testicle, and of course in sympathetic magicks, that often implies male energies. But the scent seems nicely feminine to me. I can't comment on it's efficacy yet. I've tried it this weekend, but have mostly been around my husband and daughter who already have an exellent opinion of me. I think I will keep this on hand during the upcoming holiday season, however, handy for upcoming scheduled encounters with potentially difficult in-laws. If HJTC helps me through THAT , I'll be ordering a vat!

    Ave Maria Gratia Plena

This was a lab frimp.....THANKS! In the vial: Soft, pale, creamy white flowers....I don't get a big citrus thang on this, nor do I really get any of the woodsy notes or musks. Wet: ......OK......waiting for any bottom notes to develop on this.....hmmm....still all white flowers. Don't get me wrong. I LIKE white flowers, I like jasmine for that matter, but this blend could use some grounding on me, and that's not happening. Dry: This stays lightly floral on me for quite a while. After about 45 minutes, I get a HINT of the sandalwood, but by that time, my scent-eating skin makes that somewhat superfluous, as I'd have to get my nose directly into the crook of my arm and seriously snuff away. Darn it. This just doesn't do it for me.....it's a nice smelly, just not something I crave a big bottle of. My impie will probably get some luvvin' as a linen spray, however. I'm trying to imagine this as a guy's scent, and can't.....at least not as it presented itself on MY skin. Almost too pretty to be masculine. However, not all the notes came out to play on me....I think I'd like (VERYMUCH) the scent on a man if all the woody notes were there, too. Could be quite yum.

    Chiroptera

In the vial: Ooooo....this is SO pretty!! Sweet, flowery, herbal-y yumminess. So nicely blended that no single note jumps out at me. Just softly pretty, and just like moon-gardens I've had in the past. Wet: Oh. No. Crap. This hits my skin and IMMEDIATELY becomes Dial soap. I am SO disappointed that my chemistry affects it this way. I'm still trying to track down which note affects me this way, as I've had it happen with a few blends. Dry. Soap, soap, and more soap. It's not a BAD smell, it's just that if I want to smell like Dial soap, well, I'll use Dial soap. I wanted this one to work for me, because I loved the notes. I'm an avid gardener, and have planted moon-gardens with many of these plants. Plus, I LOVE lemon balm, it's my signature herb (my first name is Melissa), and grows so well in my shady humid Houston garden, and so am twice as sorry this doesn't work on my skin. I'll find a use for my lovely little implet, though. I'm thinking that it will make a lovely linen spray for the bedroom.

    Ace of Pentacles

This is the first Tarot scent that's come my way.....I haven't used my cards in ages, so have not ordered any of the oils for ritual use. However, this came my way as a lab giftie, and WOW. Impressed. In the imp: Yup.....dirt. All the descriptions of loamy forest floors are absolutely bang on. But it's not an overpowering scent, and I find it extremely pleasant. Wet: Here comes the pine resin, and throughout the drydown, I get a series of VERY evocative scent-memories. Most strongly, I am reminded of a picnic spot near Avalanche Lake in Glacier Park that is a yearly pilgrimage for my husband, my daughter and me. Cool, secluded pine forest, all the spicy scents of the earth coming through in the warmth of the July sun WAY overhead and almost hidden. This is a "summer warmth" memory, though being a native Texan, (my spouse is the native Montanan....) it always seems cool and soothing to me. Dry: I love this scent, and it seems very appropriate to the energy of the card that it's associated with. However, on final drydown it seems a bit masculine for my everyday wear tastes. I would love to smell it on my guy, but not effing likely as he is not the scented sort (dammit!! Obviously, however he has many other fine qualities..... ) What I may end up doing with my imp is annointing a wooden Yule ornament or two for the holidays with this lovely blend.

    Black Phoenix

Oh, Black Phoenix, how I wanted to lurrrrve you! I mean, who COULDN'T use a bit more self-love? Alas, 'twas not to be...... Vial: Definite smell of bitter almonds. Now, I like this part, but there is something lurking underneath..... Wet: .....and it is apparently Windex. This goes very wonkily "chemical cleaning product smell" on me. Like cheap aftershave.....not nice. I am willing to wait for the drydown, because I wantwantwant to smell all the lovely notes being described by others. Dry: Nope, nuthin' good gonna happen with this one on me, and for that I am very sorry, it sounded GREAT from the reviews. Just more "Windex From Hell" smell, and gee, that's NOT a hedonistic aroma for me! I really liked the bitter almond smell, but something in this just went south on me, dammit! I'm thinking that MAYBE, since my imp was lab-fresh, maybe a little age will help this one. I'll try it again in a few months and see......

    Thirteen (13): October 2006

I like this MUCH better than I thought I would from some of the notes. In the bottle: I get the cocoa, a hint of the orange, and a sense of the sandalwood anchoring it. It's not the intensely "dessert-like" chocolate/orange I get from Vice. This has an almost praline-ish undertone to it, vanilla-sugary, but brown sugar rather than white. That seems a bit odd to me, because there's no real "sugar" listed in the description, so it must the way the sugars in the fruits are interacting with the sweetness of the mimosa and rose, and giving my nose "brown sugar praline". Wet: When it hits my skin, everything starts to warm up, and the whole mixture becomes very oriental-perfumey. Not in a bad way....I like oriental perfume scents. This is very well blended on me, so much so that all the notes really muddle for me to just create this lovely scent, warm and sweet and aromatic. Dry: Not much morphing from the wet stage, it's reallyreally nice. And, this was just driving me SO nuts, but it really reminded me of something I'd smelled before. Finally, I remembered a little perfume sample that I got one time (maybe last winter holiday season) at a big department store perfume counter. It was called "Magnetism" and it was by Escada. I tried it a couple of times before deciding that it wasn't for me.....for one thing, it's dry down smelled like a giant vat of burnt cotton candy (ick), and it was also one of those scents that just invaded the nose and sinus cavities of everyone in your zip code. (also ick) I mention the above, because 13 turns out to be a GREAT scent for me...all warm and cozy, and all of the notes play nice and behave. Personally, I chalk that up to the Lab giving us a product blended from essential oils, rather than a product diluted with a lot of extraneous chemicals. Quality shows.
  16. mmmitchell

    Eris

So far, my skin hasn't been kind to the overly-fruity notes. Eris is a good example of this. In the bottle: I get a raspberry note, and not just raspberry, but an artificial raspberry smell. Almost exactly like a raspberry flavored water, or similar. This doesn't really bode well, to me. Wet: I realize that the "raspberry" is coming from two notes...the "wet fruit" seems very melony, and that's combining with the sweetness from the mimosa to = artifical raspberry. Very sweet, with nothing to cut it. A one-dimensional Goddess of Chaos is really pretty much of an oxymoron, you know. Doesn't quite work. Dry: I never get any of the spices. If I had, I think that it would have helped balance out and blend the sweet notes of the fruit and mimosa. This stays very "teenybopper-y" on me. Not a bad or vile or off-putting scent in any way, just one that doesn't quite do it for me.

    Scherezade

I am writing a VERY different review than I would have posted last night....Scherezade has, indeed, quite the tale to tell.... Last night, when trying this imp, my review would have read thusly "Wow, I like these Eastern Spices, so warm and dry and sexy, but my skin gobbles this up in record time! Like a 100-calorie packet of Pringles! WAHHHHHHH!!!!! blahblahblahblah". But wait. There's more. Much more. After this beautiful scent seemingly disappeared, it sort of re-appeared, weird as that sounds. After I thought that it was (sadly) all done, I noticed that I was wafting this lovelylovely subtle scent. After my bath last night, I mixed more of the imp in with a little unscented body lotion. This was truly an outstanding way to experience this skin scent. This starts out very dusky, reviewers that have mentioned "old books" (in a GOOD way) describe it very well. That smells like the sort of dusty aroma of saffron, reminded me of the way Aureus smells in the bottle. This evened out, and warmed up with the other spices, becoming a drydry evenly spiced blend. Not incense-like to me, though I like incense notes. Not sugary or vanilla-sweet like Snake Oil and some of the other "spicy" scents. This is different. Even though it's not particularly "foody" it DID remind me of walking through the Spice Market in Isbanbul a few years ago. Great staying power, subtle but distinctive. The next a.m., me, my sheets and, um, well, my husband (ahem) were all faintly, softly spicy. Very nice. From my experience, and reading some of the other reviews I think this is a blend to take some time with, and see what sort of tale she has to tell to YOU. Initially, I was thinking that I'd just enjoy my imp, and that would be that. Now I'm seriously thinking about how much I need MORE of this.

    Red Phoenix

I got this with my very first order of BPAL, last January. Alas, I got involved with some other scents (heavily involved, I guess....... ) and by the time I got around to trying this on, the weather was starting to warm up a bit (OK, that happens in early March here on the glorious Gulf Coast) and it felt too Fall/Winter to wear. This scent seems VERY season-appropriate to me right now, and I'm really loving wearing it. I know. Sounds weird. But onward..... In the bottle: I love ALL these notes. In the bottle, I get mostly the musk and patchouli, who are then combining with what smells like cassia, as opposed to cinnamon. Oooooo, but there's a yummy plummy aroma just beneath that, waiting to bloom. Wet: Initially, this has a "sharp" note to it, sort of an edge of brassiness to the scent's otherwise red/gold combo. Tonka? Benzoin? Maybe....I'm not sure I know those scents well enough to say. It may even be the first notes of the plum. But that begins to fade as the plummy ripeness begins to bloom, which adds a definite juciness to the dryness of the patchouli/musk/cassia trio. I don't ever seem to get any mandarin (I assume mandarin orange?) from this blend. If there's a tobacco note here, it's blending so well with the Big Three that I don't pick it up individually. Dry: Beautifully well blended in drydown on me. This is a sexed-up, juicy version of Blood Moon, and I reallyreally like it a lot. Like many of the oils, this sits close to my skin, though it has more throw than most. I usually mix it with perfumer's alcohol and spritz away to my heart's content.

    Blood Moon 2005

I love cinnamon-y notes in a blend, so Blood Moon is a big winner for me. I was glad to be able to find a bottle of this one, it's just perfect to wear this time of year, for me. In the bottle: My first thought was Red Phoenix!!! Which is a scent I love. I actually went to get my bottle of Red Phoenix and compare the two, and when side-by-side, this is NOT identical, only reminiscent. A much "drier" scent overall, very nice in its own right. Still, though, that same sort of "red" impression. Wet: The other woodsy notes start to bloom on my skin. And then, I get the grains. This part is very reminescent of the grain-y oatmeal note in Dana O'Shee...at least on me. Oddly, this note occasionally gives me a weird note of cheap aftershave (HUH?) but that goes away when completely dry. Relief. Dry: Ends up getting drier and drier in a really nice way. The "cinnamon" scent, I suspect, is probably actually cassia....there's nothing "foody" about the cinnamon scent here. More like the beautiful fragrance of lovely wooden box that's held cinnamon sticks. But this is by no means a one-dimensional fragrance....it's a nice blend of woods, I get lots of sandalwood mixed in with the cinammon-y spiciness. The throw on this, surprisingly to me, is below average....it stays close to the skin on me. Very warm, intimate fall scent. I'll be wearing this a lot this fall, I suspect.
  20. mmmitchell

    Ravenous

As a fan of the LUSH scent, Karma, I was certainly primed to like this one, and I do. In the bottle: Yep. That's orange and patchouli. I can smell the soft-blossomy nature of the oranges, very nice. Oddly, this combination almost smells a bit chocolate-y to me, by no means a bad thing. Wet: Stays very true to the smell in the imp, but then the patchouli starts to become warm and musky almost immediately. Very cozy-warm, in a sensual and sexy way. Yum. Dry: This scent stays very true on me. It seems to me to be a less complicated scent than many of the BPAL scents I've tried so far, but is by no means one-dimensional. This is a very nicely balanced blend. Karma is all together a "brighter" scent on me, more complex in a spicy way, and with much more throw and staying power. I still can't decide if I want a big bottle of this......Karma still sort of fills that scent niche for me, but this has an altogether different mood to me...enough that it's not identical. I will most DEFINITELY enjoy my imp, however....thanks Lab faeries!!!
  21. mmmitchell

    Hamadryad

I had almost exactly the same experience as Meechy: I read some of the initial reviews for this oil, and ordered an imp way back when in January with my very first order of imps.....when I initially tried it I thought I was crazy.....my sniffer must be WAYWAY off. I was NOT getting any of the lovely notes (woods, spices, light florals) that other reviewers were getting. In the imp, on me wet and on me dry I have one word.....Wint O Green lifesavers. I have now read more reviews and know I'm not alone, but that doesn't mean I don't mourn the lovely notes I WISH I could sniff on me.

BPAL scents appropriate for very young children?

WHEW!!!! That's me sighing a HUGE sigh of relief that I am not the only momma/aunt out there spreading a little BPAL joy amongst the younger set. My pre-schooler, 2 yrs. 7 mos. LOVES to smell my BPAL ("me too, me too, me too") and loves to be dabbed here and there with some of "Momma's smell". I love the way Dana O'Shee smells on her, and I've also shared some of my Honey Moon with her....though I make her say "please" for that one..... She loves to have her Dad sniff her wrist, and she'll tell him "Delia smells good, TOO". Surprisingly, Gluttony (which smelled like greasy nastiness on me) makes her smell like a yummy treat. Go figure. And White Rabbit is nice on us, too. I haven't had any problems with her skin, so far, but I do use the tiniest dabs, and also stick with some of the lighter frangrances, and I tend to avoid my beloved cinnamon-y scents, so far, on the theory that they might be irritating to her. With my 13-year-old niece, of course anything I give her is great......as opposed to anything her mom might give her these days. Part of the territory, I guess. I save my imps that are too "non-descript-floral" or "weird-fruit" on me, and have been surprised that many of these are very very nice (and appropriate smelling) on her. Not "too old" in other words. I'm making some body scrub for the niece and nephew (9 yrs. old) with VICE for stocking stuffers, but I think I'll omit telling them the name of the scent for fear that my sister and her husband with freak out..... Glad to find out I'm not the only one enabling the young un's.
  23. mmmitchell

    The Caterpillar

I found this scent to be a huge morpher.....which, come to think of it, is pretty appropriate, what with the caterpillar theme.... In the Bottle: Very incense-y, which I like, and there are all these bits of florals lurking in the background. Mmmmmm. OK, yeah, sorta that "head shop" smell, but a very upscale, posh headshop. Wet: Nicely balanced, the florals all melt together, into the Caterpillar's beautiful garden blend, but it's a "secret garden", a little dark and loamy, and there's a nice green mossy scent that really works. I thought that this scent might be bottom heavy, what with all the patchouli and heavier notes, but it's not. Dry: Oh no. Soso sad. All the lovely florals just went POOF! on me, and I'm left with the scent of vetiver and patchouli duking it out. Vetiver, on me, often seems to "masculinize" a previously gender-neutral scent, and that's what's happening here. Later: I'm left smelling a little too guy-like for my tastes. It's great, just too male. I'd love to smell this on a guy....my spouse isn't the scent sort, but maybe I can talk one of my guy friends into trying it on for me. This may also have promise as a room scent in my oil burner or Lampe Bergere, since the problem seems, sadly, to be with me and my skin.
  24. mmmitchell

    Dana O'Shee

I can't really add anything that hasn't been eloquently described by other reviewers. Yes, this is wonderful almond/grain/creamy honey goodness. I will add that this is THE most versatile BPAL scent I've tried. OK, so far. I most often mix it in my hand with a little unscented body lotion....it's a soft, snuggly scent perfect for days when other scents might seem "too much", and an especially nice after-bath scent at night. My guy finds it especially snuggly. For LUSHies like me, it also perfectly complements so many of my favorite LUSH products....Snowcake, HIWTK, etc. It's also a gem for layering with other BPAL scents....last Saturday, for instance, we had a rainy, homebody sort of weekend, and I layered a bit o' Three Witches with it....cinnamon oatmeal! But in a good comfort food type of way. I've also tried it with a bit of formulator's alcohol, and some distilled water as a linen spray.....divine. Dana O' Shee........it's ALLLLLLL good. I'm SO glad it's a GC scent.
  25. mmmitchell

    Peitho

I eagerly anticipated my imp of Peitho, as I've been looking for a GC scent that will give me at least SOME of the same notes as Khajuraho, which I LOVELOVELOVED. In the vial: OK, yes, white flowers and a somewhat woodsy base. I very much notice the stargazer lily with the jasmine....it adds an almost rank, wet aroma. Very lush and floral, no spices, no vanilla, and very little wood. Wet: All white flowers at first, then the sandalwood starts to warm up and peek out a bit. Still no vanilla to speak of, no spice, no musk, and I'm not sure what myrtle smells like, but I don't smell anything that I think might be that. Dry: My skin eats this quick, like many of the Lab's white floral-y blends. I got a tiny hint of the notes I loved so much in Khajuraho, but it fades even more quickly than that blend did. On me, the notes that could have made this a more complex scent never bloomed. Sad. It's nice, but I'll probably not go all big bottle on it. I'll try my imp again, however, and see if time is kind to it. Several hours later: This went pretty soapy on me at the very end if I really put my nose to my wrist and snuffed mightily. But it was so faint that I didn't find it offputting in any way.
