    Queen Mab

I just tried this one this morning and have to agree it is a lovely scent. I also like my scents pretty strong and this one is about in the medium range so far...but I have a feeling it's going to fade a lot more, as I've only had it on for an hour or so. I agree that without knowing what notes are in it, it smells floral/sandalwood with a berryish smell in the background. I can smell the sandalwood, but wouldn't say it's heavy on the sandalwood. I think it is pretty evenly balanced with the floral. After looking to see what the individual notes are in this, I can detect the jasmine and sandalwood, but I have never really had the chance to smell black orchid, osmanthus, or even somalian rose and chinese musk on their own for that matter, so I'm not surprised that I can't break it down. It is a darker floral woody scent and I agree it is shadowy. I like this a lot. I'll have to see how it continues to wear on me, but so far another nice fragrance by Elizabeth.

    Carnivàle

I'm noticing my tastes are similar to Shrieking Violet and Vicious Violet more and more...good to know. I love amber, musk, carnation and berries, so again this is a fav of mine. Top notes are berry and then it dries down to a carnationy, musky scent. The amber is lurking in the background. This is beautiful with Potion lotion from Lush....as a matter of fact if you love Potion (my lovely Lushies), you must get this. Perfect complementary scent.

    Venom

I agree with the above reviewer on this scent. I passed it over on the site...but Elizabeth sent me my scent recommendations with this on the list. I got it in a swap and tried it....Love it!!! It's really unique. It is another resin scent that is mild but potent. I don't know how to describe it. It is a bit fruity but deep. I can't really detect any of the notes on their own. They blend together well. I wore this to a job interview recently....with the thinking Venom would help me be confident and I'm a bit sick of all of the interviewing since I've been unemployed...I wore it as venonmous aide in orally presenting myself. Maybe somewhat twisted in my thinking, but I am a bit sick of all of the interviews with rejection to follow. We'll see how this worked. I'm still in the running for the job. I just called to find out since they are taking their good old time. (and yes now that the above person mentioned it, I do recall Poison from days long ago.....slightly similar...of course, Elizabeth's is much better)

    Lilith

I really liked this when first applied, but the drydown was not very nice on me. Initially I loved it but then it went just so/so on me.

    Hellcat

This was a buttery rum decadent scent. The drydown on me was the wicked bite part. Smells more buttery/rummy and boozy while wet. This is a nice unique scent.

    Blood Rose

I'd have to agree with the above. This is my favorite rose blend. I don't really care for rose, but the wine and dragon's blood make this truly unique and robust. It lasted a long time and hubby liked it. I will be ordering this in the future.

    Belladonna

I agree with the above reviewer who said she didn''t care for this when she first wore it, but then it grew on her. It is an herbal floral and is unique. I have never smelled anything like this beore. I have only worn it twice, but the second time I am finding it to be oddly enticing. I'll have to try it a couple more times. I like this to throw in the mix of all of my deep/dark/woody and spicy ones.

    Seraglio

This ended up being another favorite of mine (even though I don't care for rose - it is muted in the background and mostly noticeable on the drydown). When I first put this on my wrist, I detected orange peel and then zilch...nothing!! I have terrible sinuses and the lady I used to buy my oils from said I can't smell certain notes ....there's a term for this, but I can't think of it. Sadly, when I first put this on and tested it, nothing. The next morning, I put quite bit on all over and could smell it. It is still subtle to my nose, but I'm loving it. I get the orange peel and neroli in the top note and then the drydown, I can smell the nutmeg and bulgarian rose. The sandalwood is the type that is either very mild, or my nose just has a difficult time picking it up. I definitely love this one, but I needed to reapply. One of my favs again.

    Maiden

I generally don't like rose scents, but this one was an exception. I love carnation so the carnation in this really balances out the rose, so I can handle it. Actually, I love this one and will probably be buying it. I need to throw in a few of the lighter scents to balance out all of the smoky, woody ones I buy and this is one of the ones I will be buying. It would be a good spring scent. It is about as feminine as I will go with a floral. I generally only like florals with fruit, but as stated, the carnation made this spicy!! Another one that lives up to its name, Maiden.

    Vixen

I tried this last night and gotta say.......LOVE it. I'm a Libra so why wouldn't I love a scent that's described as vampy as hell, true heartbreaker and flirtatous, or for that matter ....just the name Vixen. I love ginger, patchouli and orange blossom so I loved this, but I have to admit that prior to smelling it, I had my doubts about wearing all 3 together. It is dark and spicy just like I like my fragrances, but has the touch of orange blossom to offset it. It lasts pretty long also, but the drydown is quite a bit softer with a bit of ginger biting out at you!! This is another one of my favorites. Great Job, Elizabeth!! You couldn't have described this one any better.

    Oberon

Sadly, this was the only other BPAL scent I really didn't like (other one was Unseelie). I like patchouli and musk, but it must have been the orchid and juniper notes that didn't appeal to me. Not me at all.

    Jezebel

I got a sample of this in a swap and sniffed it out of the bottle and thought it was okay. However, when I wore this, I was amazed at how much of a punch it packed. I like bold fragrances and this was both bold, sweet and woody with a touch of orange blossom (also a fav of mine). I couldn't detect the rose in this either, which as the above reviewer states, is a good thing for me. However, I felt the honey stayed pretty strong in the drydown also. I thought it was yet another perfectly balanced scent by Elizabeth. It had good staying power. I was amazed. I tried this on my wrist around 8:00 pm and when I got up to workout at 3:00 am, the fragrance was still detectable. My kind of fragrance. Loved this one. I'm glad I have a 5 ml bottle coming in my order of this one.

    Endymion

I like pear florals and light musk, so I liked this one. I think I might wait until summer to purchase this one, as it is a bit light for the Winter. Beautiful fruity floral, but I'd need to reapply often.

    Black Phoenix

This was one of the first BPAL scents I tested and I love it. It is a bit deep, but not really. It is like fruity/berryish smoked sweetness. This was not overpowering at all. Very subtle on me. Hubby loved it.....I can see why this is their signature scent. Very unique. Love it.

    Cathedral

I like resin scents so was not surpised that I liked this; however, I think it is very soft for a resin scent. I still don't know how Elizabeth makes her resin scents so understated. This reminded me a lot of Velvet but without the coccoa vanilla overtone. I didn't think it lasted long enough and had to reapply, but I liked it.

    Snake Oil

Whatever you do, DON'T just smell this in the bottle and set it aside to try later. You MUST try this now. I couldn't really smell anything out of the bottle and set it aside ....not on my priority list to try. I tried some of my deeper, woodier scents first (as those are my favs)....WOW, was I surprised when I put this on this morning. I immediately fell in love with this. It really morphs into a beautiful spicy/sweet scent that is indescribable. I only ordered a 5 ml bottle of this. I'll definitely be replacing the 5 ml soon. I never thought this would smell so lovely and be so long lasting and strong on like it is. I can see why this is #1 seller. LOVE IT. Great Job Elizabeth!! (Now I've got to try Haunted since Snake Oil and Haunted are Elizabeth's faves)

    Shadow

I agree that this wears much lighter than it smells from the bottle. On my skin it turned very cedary and lemony with only a hint of a wood note. It is one that I like a lot. I like to have a variety of scents and this is a really unique one. I like that it is lighter, but yet sort of woody. This could be a nice wood scent to wear in the spring or summer without being too smoky.
  18. lorajc

    Unseelie

This was the only BPAL scent thus far that I couldn't stand after it had been on a while. I just don't think this is my kind of fragrance. I generally like woody, deep, smoky scents or fruity floral. I got this in a swap and while it wasn't too bad at first, I really didn't care for the drydown.

    Velvet

After reading the reveiws on this, I imagined this would be much stronger. I was amazed at how light it went on. I usually think of sandalwood and myrrh scents being heavier....but again Elizabeth amazes me with her sense of balance here. I'd have to disagree with the above people that state the sandalwood stands out in this. I think the coccoa vanilla, sandalwood and myrrh are in lovely balance. I also ended up using my entire vial for one day. It actually could be a little heavier, but that won't stop me from wearing it, I'll just reapply. However, the wet scent and the drydown are not much different on this, at least on my skin it stayed pretty true to the wet scent. I have no problem wearing myrrh on my skin or any other resin scent.

    Lady MacBeth

I have to agree with the above reviews. I like my fragrances bold and robust (or deep and smoky) and this one is just that. I must say, prior to Elizabeth's scents, I have never had the opportunity to try a scent with Wine. This is actually lovely. Sweet and red......bold and sexy. Really makes a statement.

    Persephone

I am not particularly a big fan of rose, but I do like it when combined with other scents and since I love fruity florals, I tried this one. I loved the pomegrante in it, but just couldn't get past the rose in it. As the others mentioned, it is both fruity and rose. I think if the pomegrante would have been more prominent than the rose, I could have loved this, but both notes are equally noticeable. I'll probably use the rest of my sample, but doubt I'd buy it. Sorry rose...I know I should try to like you more!

    Anne Bonny

I'm a huge fan of resin scents, as they seem to really agree with my body chemistry. Deep, dark, woody and resin like scents have become somewhat of a trademark of mine. This is definitely one of the best wood/resin scents I have smelled in a while. I feel that all of BPAL's deeper/woody scents seem to have a nice balance to them and some of them are even really light on me. This one did fade after a few hours, but I won't mind reapplying. This is one of my favs so far. Good job Elizabeth.
  23. How does Jack compare to Gingerbread Poppet or Tamora....I know Tamora is quite different, but what about Gingerbread Poppet?

    Madrid

I sniffed this out of the bottle and I love it. I'm going to wear it soon....so I'll update here. I like sweet scents and I love Clove and Wine...so this was made for me. After wearing this, I'll say I really like it (not love). I don't get a lot of clove smell on my body. I think the clove just keeps it from being as sweet as Lady McBeth. This is very similar to Lady McBeth, but not quite as strong.
