  1. This is really surprisingly good on me. I did a little test swipe- I have to admit that I had it in my head that I was getting Wulric, not Wild Men, and I don't know how my brain got scrambled like that, but there it is. When I realized my mistake, I checked the notes and realized that this scent was not for me.

It's very, very masculine, so I don't think I will keep it, but the patchouli is actually gorgeous, and I don't know if it's because of the clove and peppers, but I really love that aspect of the blend. This is really striking. I like it quite a lot more than I figured I would, based on notes alone!

  2. First of all, much :P and :D to the person who sent me this decant!

I was worried about trying Euphrosyne (stay with me, here- this is a biggerCritter review, I know) because of the strong floral base, but it was shockingly pretty on me. BiggerCritters is sort of like that on me. It reminds me VERY MUCH of Euphrosyne, because I apparently amp the gardenia.

I'm not getting any citrus, which is sad, because I adore sweet citrus. I wanted Et Lux Fuit with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, but I'm basically getting... Euphrosyne, with no rose. It is very lovely- I like Euphrosyne, after all, but I wish I got the complexity that I can smell from the decant, dangit. That's a bit of a downer... Guh, I need to break down and save up for a scent locket. I'll have to retry this later in the month, I suppose, but I suspect that gardenia, while it tries to be polite and lovely on my skin, it is simply overwhelming.

  3. I love Pink Moon 2005. LOVE. It smells decidedly like cotton candy to me and it makes me feel girly and sweet, and it's just -good- to me. So, naturally, I had to have the second incarnation of Pink Moon. (Plus, the bottle! How awesomely cute is it?)

I was worried that it would resemble Faith, which smells like violets with antique lace... and I like Faith, but... yeah. Carnation, how do I love thee? It's the same carnation that I know and love from Alice, but it's in a completely different setting. It's so pretty and sweet and not the same as the previous version at all, which is a good thing- A very good thing. I didn't want a copy, I wanted a new take that I could love, and I do love this one. Hooray! Now let's see how often I wear this one...

I wish I could describe it better than "sweet carnations," because it's so much more than that. It's springy and lovely.

ETA: Huh. It disappears fairly quickly on me, and the faint drydown I do get (even from my hair) is a soft powder... I'm not sure I'm in love with this anymore. :P I wish it would retain the freshly applied scent.

  4. I've never smelled Snow White, but if this is what she smells like, I'm glad I never went out of my way to get a sniff. Don't take that the wrong way, though! I was hoping for something else entirely out of Snow White. On to Snow-Flakes, though. I actually really, really like this scent. It smells clean and cold to me. It isn't heavy, and it isn't soapy, and there's a soft mint, but not too much, and it's very inoffensive. I really like it, to my great surprise. I'm certainly glad to have some! I'd love to see it back around next holiday season, too.

Edit 7/8/07: Let me amend this review. If this is what Snow White smells like, I can see why it is so popular. This is on my top 5 scents. It is SO evocative; truly like being outside in the midst of that first winter's snow. It has a hint of sweetness, but it's mostly just really pretty and light. I could wear this every day for the rest of my life. I love this! I've swapped for more, and still hope it will make a return showing this winter season! Thankfully, I do not get any cucumber from this, as many others have.

Edit 10/25/07: I have had a chance to sniff Snow White 2005, and while there are absolutely similarities, Snow-Flakes is creamier and stronger on my skin, while Snow White has that slush-y pine-y note that most scents with 'snow' in the name have, but Snow-Flakes does not. This is still on my top 5 scents.

  5. Not the desperation, desolation and anguish of unrequited love, but the distant, chill and pitiless scent of the object of that doomed desire. White musk, osmanthus, Nile lily and frankincense.

This is actually very pretty on me, but the main problem is that it resembles other blends on me that I prefer- Katharina and Whitechapel, just with flowers instead of fruits. So, yeah. It's what I just said, essentially: It's predominantly white musk with a sort of incensey floral as a faint backdrop. I like it, but I don't love it.

  6. As I'm doing a bottle clearance, I realize that I haven't even reviewed some of these scents, and someday I'm going to wonder why I didn't keep them! This may be one I regret getting rid of. My notes on it are fairly positive: It is light and creamy with a hint of lemony sweetness, not tartness. The white musk doesn't dominate until much later hours. It's powdery and there's a slight spiciness to it as well. Huh. Very pretty. ETA: I just did a little test swipe, and there's something about it that reminds me of an element of Et Lux Fuit!

  7. I can't believe I didn't review this before I sent it out. I had exactly the same experience of it that TrailerTrashPrincess did (possibly because it was the same decant?), which was sweet pine with maybe some very faint sweet floral underneath. Sadly, anything with "Snow" in the name tends to do that... except Snow-Flakes!

ETA: After having had the experience of sniffing Snow Bunny this year, I was immediately struck by the similarity to Snow Angel, and I think the decant I got may have been a mislabelled decant of Snow Bunny.

  8. It's about time I reviewed this scent! This is a rich, foody, creamy and sugary sweet blend, as you may guess from the description. Oddly enough, Midway is the only scent that comes to mind as comparison, but Beaver Moon is much more and there's no dusty scent to it at all. I love this and I'm finally going to be able to start wearing it more regularly!

I don't get any strawberries at all. Then again, I don't get specific foody components out of it. Just sweetness and richness.

ETA: Is there cassia in Beaver Moon? I just got a bit and it sort of smells like cassia. :P

  9. I wanted to really, really love this one. Carnation, honeysuckle, lemon and white musk! Woo! But, somehow, the combination simply does not work out for me. There is a distinctly peppery tone to this blend and it gets all up in my nasal passage. I think the honeysuckle and poppy are creating some unholy union on my skin, as well. :P This just absolutely does not work for me.

  10. So, at first application, this is not singing beautifully on my skin or anything. Several hours into wear, however, and the floral incense with a white musk backdrop is really unexpectedly beautiful. I'm going to have to give my nearly passed-over imp a chance. It's a really rich scent- my imp looks a bit aged, so I'm thinking that the myrrh and other notes might've really had a chance to come through because of that.

EDIT: There IS no white musk listed in this. Huh! It's still lovely, and I'm doing a full wear today.

  11. I turned a blind eye to the red musk and stubbornly jumped at the chance to own a bottle, unsniffed.

    Bad me.

Everything else smells heavenly, but the red musk! Gah. It simply will not back down, and turned my afternoon headachy. Yeah. Ultimately, the only sign of this blend is the overpowering red musk... ah, well.

  12. So, I have problems with severe anxiety, and today I started a new quarter at school. Someone kind frimped this to me in a recent swap and while I enjoy the scent, I have faith that the focus of this blend really works for me. I faced my day. The enormity of that is really something I'm unable to express. I know I have to credit myself, but High John deserves some recognition, too. I am seriously contemplating a bottle.

On to the scent, very quickly. Lovely, light, fruity and perfect for spring, for me. I love the vague sweetness that lingers on my skin even hours after I (very sparingly) applied, not knowing how it would react on my skin. This is lovely.

  13. Tobacco tends to choke out every other note, so I have been really nervous about wearing this one. Lime plays white knight and rides to the rescue, but it's such an odd pairing that I'm not sure what to make of this. The tobacco is tempered by the lime, as I said, but I can also smell a hint of the bay rum and the cookie sweetness, but it doesn't meld well for me. I asked my husband if he liked it, and he said, "You smell good... but it's not my favourite. It's still good, though." He may've just said that to placate my feelings, but it's pretty much how I feel about good Mr. Nancy right now. It's nice, but not necessarily among my must-haves. I think I'll be holding on to the decant, though!

  14. The juniper and sandalwood are at odds, trying to create a stench of eternal badness. It is working. The sandalwood settles down to choke the juniper, making my skin smell like dusty juniper.

Eventually, the heliotrope intervenes and tries to find some sort of happy medium. The citrus is being strangely timid, and I'm confused. I can actually get a whiff of the orange if I'm not huffing my arm. But the LIME!! Who killed the lime?

This is more woodsy than I thought it would be. My chemistry has corrupted this into an earth sign, but hopefully the notes I love will win out. We'll see. :P

  15. Is there anything like Punkie Night in the general catalog? I am obsessed with it, much to my surprise! ETA: Can anyone tell me if Coral Snake is anything like Punkie Night? Thanks!

Answering my own question, just in case:

Having just done a very light test swipe of Coral Snake, I will say that it strongly resembles Punkie Night to me, particularly wet. The spices add enough of a difference that it is still unique and lovely, but they share a similar tone, I suppose.

  16. The myrrh is threatening to make this go musty on me, but the almond is just radiant. Y'know, it's odd to me that I've seen this and Boomslang referred to as the "Snake Oiliest" of the bunch, and they're my favourites so far... but I don't like Snake Oil. Granted, I've liked three of the four I've tried, so... yeah. Strange! But this is the lovely almond from Queen of Sheba with a lovely undertone of the vanilla spices. I think the myrrh will soften on my skin and deepen with age. This is a serious winner.

  17. This is lovely- very ethereal. And, as a previous reviewer stated, it's almost exactly like a violet Antique Lace. At first I thought it smelled too "old" for me- it reminds me of my grandmother. Then it grew on me, and I really like it now, more than Antique Lace- the spouse made a face and declared Faith the scent of a cleaning product, so I won't be getting more of this, but I do believe I will be holding on to my decant. I can't wait to try Hope.

  18. The name of this moon refers to the color of wild ground phlox, a primary component of this Lunacy Blend, which is one of the most widespread floral signposts of springtime in North America. This Lunar blend is soft with phlox, tulip, daffodil, dogwood and muscari, dusted with pink sugar, carnation and honey, and a touch of the first strawberries of the season.

To my great delight, Pink Moon turns to cotton candy on me- does anything else need to be said? Oh, yeah. It's not just cotton candy- it's soooo much better. This is beautiful! All the florals are sugared, but they lend depth and loveliness to the sweetness, and it is just SO. VERY. GOOD.

I don't know what else to say. It's better than Pink Phoenix (in fact, it's what I was hoping PP would be!) and it almost ranks above Beaver Moon in my lunacy list.

    ETA: Description.

  19. :sneeze:

I think I'm slightly allergic to lavender, because I seem to recall Somnus causing a similar sneezing thing.

This is a lovely, herbal and fruity blend, as so many other people have said. It's just like a tisane from the local tea shop. However, it is not the scent for me. There's something too sharp about it- I'm glad I didn't go looking for a bottle! However, I can see this smelling amazing on the right person.

  20. On my skin, Zarita actually reminds me somewhat of my Chaos Theory, which is strange. My CT reminded me a bit of Monster Bait: Closet, which went foul on my skin... and WOW, Zarita is distinctly awful on me. Like, woah. It is just overwhelmingly sharp and oppressive and she tried to kill me! Okay, not really. But she might. I don't need a second test to convince me that this doll needs a new home, stat.
