    Update

Me= -6lbs Birthday= ipod knockoff, WoW boardgame (...I don't know), book store gift certificate, a bptp scent locket (!), Singing Moon tee and possibly an Arkham tee... and a membership to a local gym. Henceforth it'll be about $75 a month for both of us, but it's an important investment. (I'm way more excited than I sound, seriously. This is a really spectacular birthday for me.) This year's scent: Morocco, completely by chance. It was just on my desk, and a lovely surprise- the notes shouldn't be pretty on me. Switch Witchery= The universe hated me (or my switchee) this round. My witch is wonderful, as per usual. Really delightful tea and I ADORE the loose tea filter. It's awesomeness. Life= Joined a weight loss support type group; TOPS. Personal weigh-ins weekly sans humiliation. You say if you've gained or lost and how much and people applaud or encourage as necessary. Then there's other stuff. It's a bunch of little old ladies with silver hair and good stories. Baby shower for a friend in about an hour. Out.

    Birthday scents

    2006: Lotus Moon 2007: Morocco
  3. IMO, to my nose, Empress and Rose Moon are very different. Unfortunately I don't have Rose moon, I'm remembering from memory, but it was a sweet rose? Empress is almost all rose (I don't know what kind, but I know it's not tea rose as in London), and there's a slight men's cologne on the drydown (I'm thinking Bergamot, I'm not sure what the note is). I think a closer similarity to Rose Moon is Hope from CD. Hope is much sweeter but I remember thinking they were very similar. Just my 2 cents. Happy hunting! I find that Stardust's Victoria is really similar to Rose Moon - I know it's not strictly GC, but it's something on which you can stock up a bit. Victoria is a little less green and a little sweeter, but they're very close to my nose. The Gaiman scents are GC, from everything I've read. They often get lumped in with LE's on swaps pages because of the cost, much like the Salons do.

What BPAL Would Nancy Drew wear? Girl Detective Chic

WWNDW? Interesting question. My first instinct is Antique Lace (Or Hope/Faith), and then maybe London. Danube is another possibility, in my world. I'm thinking Whitechapel, though. Or 51. Probably Snow-Flakes and Hungry Ghost Moon. I don't have explanations for why. It just seems like they fit the title, for me, and are fresh, clean scents.

BPAL Fruit Blends - the many variations

Embalming Fluid is one of the scents that enchanted me from the get-go! My favourite uncle is a mortician, and I keep thinking I ought to get a bottle for his wife. I didn't mention citrus in mine, because the first post mentioned warm, juicy and deep fruits. However, my favourite fruity florals are Whitechapel and Katharina (which I know you don't like). If you like lilacs, though- Whitechapel is lilacs and white musk and lime, and it is SO good. I would second Yemaya, because it has a musk that deepens it and cuts the sweetness, at least on me. (I was allergic to something in it, and would've preferred it stay the wet honeydew it is when I first apply it, because it was fantastic, as my tastes run, heh.)

    Carnaval Diabolique recommendations

First of all, y'all are making me really want to try Thalassa. I don't like Snake Oil, but I loooove most of the Snake Pit, so even if you're iffy on SO itself, I'd suggest trying scents from the Pit.

    Carnaval Diabolique recommendations

I concur with the rec for the Snake Pit, and specifically for Western Diamondback. I do want to point out that it may not be ticking as much as you think. The original date the Carnaval was set to leave was September 2007, but at the last CD update, the announce post said the Carnaval wouldn't be leaving town until January 2008... and we're on act 3 of 7.

BPAL Fruit Blends - the many variations

You might like Aglaea, but I'm thinking it'll be too sweet- I found it to be in the same scent category as Katharina. Still, it's worth a try. If you liked Fae, except for the oakmoss, I'd also recommend Thaleia. Other scents to consider: Purple Phoenix, Fire Pig, Yerevan, Tintagel, Bordello, Dragon's Heart, Cheshire Cat, Gomorrah, Strangler Fig, Oya, Venice, Hymn to Proserpine, Sundew, Baneberry, Eden, and maybe Tamora. Of the above, I'd recommend Yerevan and Hymn to Proserpine the most strongly.

What would be a Regency-type scent?

I submit Queen Gertrude, London and Moon Rose... just because they seem like the type. I also imagine things with lilies and roses.

    Scents turning to bubblegum?

Just reading the title, I automatically thought "must be lotus!" heh. I agree with Ah Xia- I think it is likely the amber, though I've never had it turn sweet on my skin.

    Cheshire Cat

This is really pretty! It's a musky grapefruit on me, and I can smell some of the currants, as well. It's a beautiful, soft fragrance on my chemistry and seems really versatile- not offensive for day wear, unusual enough for nighttime. I think, however, that the musk must have some red in it, and the lavender has crawled into my sinuses to incite a riot. I'll test again another day, to be sure.

    Bilquis

This is BEAUTIFUL. And, sadly, powdery. It's an odd powder drydown, too. (I'm doing this in reverse, I know. Bear with me.) Have you ever mixed crystal lite or an off brand? When I open the package, I sort of inhale a bit of the powder- same when I pour it into the pitcher. This smells sort of like that. It resembles the off-brand peach flavour, as a matter of fact. (Peaches and almonds are in the same family, y'know... I don't know. I'm tired. But tis true.) I love the honeyed almonds with a floral in the background when it's wet. This wears really well, lasts quite a while, and it's quite pretty. I'm just not terribly sure the drydown works for me. ETA: I think it's the myrrh doing the powdery thing. I bet this'll age well, though I could be wrong. I'm really pleased the lily is behaving, though.

Your Best-Bet "Must Try" Enabling Scents

I love these! So here are my suggestions for a newbie imp pack: Alice Embalming Fluid Dorian Bengal Jazz Funeral The Lion I think that's a decent sampling! If I had to recommend 6 LE decants to nab up: Absolutely not Snowflakes. Because it's mine. MINE! Boomslang Mme. Moriarty Et Lux Fuit Storyville Monster Bait: Something that sounds good 13 (whichever one sounds good) But there are so many!

    Scents of the Moment

Obsessing over trying: TKO, Leo '07, Victoria, Lysander, Schlafende Baigneuse and Crowley. Bottles I particularly yearn for: 51, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, Queen of Sheba, TKO, Bengal, Snowflakes Imps I particularly yearn for: Croquet, TKO, Crowley, Tristran, Hermia. LE's I'd almost rent out my soul for: Storyville, SN Lime, SN Pomegranate, Fee, Tears, Circe, Noir LE's I'd almost always accept another bottle of: Et Lux Fuit, Snowflakes, Boomslang, Punkie Night LE's I'd always accept another imp of: Storyville, Beaver Moon, Pink Moon '05, Chaste Moon and the bottle bunch, of course! Catalog bottles I absolutely can't be without: Katharina, Whitechapel and Alice. BPTP stuff I would sell my soul for: (other than a scent locket, obviously) Bitter Moon tee. Mum Moon tee, too. Previously in my wishlist, I decided to take it out but to leave it available here. It'll be updated with some frequency as my mood dictates. I'm also putting some of my wishlist on here that doesn't need to be up there anymore; namely Tarot and such. Tarot The World Temperance *The Hanged Man Justice Strength *The Hierophant *The Sun The High Priestess The Chariot The Chakras Vishuddha Manipura Sahasrara TAL Charisma Glamour *Anthelion *Bastet's Laughter *Block Buster *Euphony *Hand of Hermes *Hymn to Pan *Radiance of Ra **Road Opener Brass Balls Foundation of Fortune King Solomon's Millk and Honey *Perpetuum Bonum White Light Catalyst Clarity **Concentration **Crucible of Courage *Determination **Healing *Mnemosyne Ouroboros Wolf's Heart I don't want any TAL that I could mistakenly cause negative effects. I'm not a magical practitioner, but I do have faith that focusing energy really does make a difference. (That's just my little disclaimer about TAL oils.)

    Lydia

Lydia is like wearing a bold, green floral... but a glass one. It's like a hand-blown floral, somehow. I know that doesn't make any sense, but it's just... a glassy scent to me. It's not quite aquatic, but it is cool and lovely. I can't pick out the precise floral, but it isn't allergy inducing on me, nor is it soapy. This is lovely, and really well blended. I'm so glad I got to try this, thanks to somebody special.

Katharina!! Yemaya, too! Possibly Uruk! But definitely Katharina. Although the one that immediately sounds ideal is Snow-Flakes.

    Unsent

So here are things I've recently figured out about myself: I don't trust people. Moreso than I originally believed. I have issues with my father, but I think those issues are easier for me to resolve, because I've written him off. What's going to be hardest for me is that most of my issues stem from my mother, and I can't bear to think about that. I love my mother, and I know she loves me and did the best she could, but... there's a lot of anger and I don't know how to deal with that. I am a freak who cannot find closure in any way over some STUPID boy I met online AGES ago. This is disturbing. I just want to heal, but he hurt me on such a base level that I sort of sealed it off and now I can't get to it. I don't want him; I don't want to be with him, and if he ever showed back up in my life, I'd probably tell him to trust his instincts and get the hell away from me. But first I would tell him all the things that hurt me. Maybe I just want some acknowledgement of what he did. And there's a part of me that hopes he never realized how much it hurt me, because I don't want him to be capable of doing that to anyone. I need to take care of myself. Why is this called unsent? Because I'm going to start writing physical letters to people I can't let go of, and pretend that they've been read and heard, and hopefully that will help.
  19. I suggest Death Adder, Shub Niggurath, Port-au-Prince, Sudha Segara, and.... Well, yeah. I'll go ahead and second everyone, instead of just stealing Shub, here. Bengal is possibly my favourite spice scent. Oh, and Hollywood Babylon... or was it Hell's Belle? I think Hell's Belle was spicier, but you might try both of those.

    Heavy BPAL scents

You might try: Nephilim, Black Annis, Incantation, Two Monster, Umbra, Voodoo, Burial, Nocnitsa... how is your friend with patchouli? Snake Oil might be a decent starting point. Or Death Adder for something a bit deeper.

    Where is this scent?

It's a catalog blend, and the reason you can't find anything on it is because it's got a 3 letter name. Reviews are here. Its description is as follows: "Muscadine, black and red patchouli, cereus and nag champa." It is in Excolo. Hope that helps!
  22. I don't think there's a vanilla mint in the GC, sadly. I thought 51 was more similar to F5 than to HGM, though I can see (and may've mentioned) a similarity between them, as well.
  23. smallvoice

    Monster Bait: Tokyo Stomp

This was not the mint I was looking for. Chemical, plasticky and occasionally downright medicinal... I get a scent of fluffy vanilla and thin mints from the bottle, and briefly on my skin, and then it just gets... strange. So here are the conclusions I came to, because I don't know how to describe how I got there: The vanilla reminds me of Black Opal, but TS is not a warm vanilla- the mint makes it strange. It works for me in Black Opal. It doesn't work in TS. I guess that's what it boils down to. Maybe it'll age well, though.

    New Year's Eve in Dogville

Huh! It is sharp and acrid when wet on my skin, but the drydown! After about 10 minutes, it begins to get comfortable- the shoes come off, it settles back, and... dude. Is there leather in this? I swear I smell a hint of leather- it's not beating me over the head, either, as leather is wont to do on me, it's this soft leathery smell- maybe a musk? Once the cologne-y scent burns off, this is really lovely on me. I am so glad I got to try this one! My decant will be well-loved.

    It just didn't happen

I can't believe I am so close to Convergence right now and I can't get there. That seems immeasurably unfair, and I just want to lay in bed and weep. It's within DRIVING distance, and we have $2 to our names. There's never going to be a way to replicate this, either. Convergence will happen again, but the people attending this year are not all going to be at the next one, and I love Portland, and I just don't know how to handle this. I think chocolate is in order.
