    Egg'd Mailbox

Yeah, eggy, slightly creamy, surrounded by hammered mailbox tin. Not really an egg custard scent to me - it does have a slight edge of rotten to it. So far, it's unlovely, doesn't need a place in my permanent clutch. I'll try it once more later on and edit accordingly if I change my mind.

    Judith and Holofernes

Awful. Absolutely awful. How is it possible that a note list such as this could yield the fragrance of human pee? That is the middle note for me, with lovely flowers around it. So, somebody let it go in the garden, basically. How unfortunate.

    Gluttony

Ok, 13 pages. Has everybody reviewed this by now? On me, it begins as a buttery sugar, but it becomes a burnt caramel with butter tones. Nah, not too appealing, can't see smelling like this especially when there's so much better out there for me. I can't wear Cockaigne either for similar reasons.

    Nihil

Of all the perfumes in my collection, this is the one my grandmother liked best. It is, as everybody says, a strong floral, but what? If there is gardenia in this, it must be very well blended or some kind of gardenia I enjoy, like Indian Gardenia by the Body Shop. Otherwise, I couldn't like this. There's something satiny to this fragrance. Kind of a sandalwood backbone and the flowers I don't know what. It is truly beautiful, though. Department store-ish, but that's not a bad thing. I'm glad I have a bottle.

    Voodoo Queen

This nearly legendary scent is most lovely, tho not as beautiful as my beloved Gypsy Queen. I'd wager that there's definitely black pepper and cassia in this more-resinous-than-musky blend. It is somewhat sweet, tho not foody on me. That notwithstanding, there is the smallest whisper of a cola note, something I don't think anybody's mentioned yet. It is a little dirty, and it is secretive, the smile of one who knows.

    Hony Mone

Well, as usual, jasmine comes out to dominate, and this made me fear it would completely take over and sour everything up. But take heart, fellow fans! It backs off after a short while and joins a very honeyed chorus. I get a lot of figgy carnation along with an herb under tone as well. Lasts for several hours with light throw. This blend makes me happy, like any proper Hony Mone should!

    Sugar-Slathered Candied Apple

Oh, SSCA, you make me feel mighty real. Green apples coated with sugar straight up in the imp, then green apples bursting from the skin. This effect mellows out and lays back with a caramel syrup p.o.v. No throw and doesn't last long, but I sure wish I had more of this one. The scent's so good, it's one of the few BPALs that has moved me to the point of hunger grumbles.

    Monster Bait: Underpants

A gift of the sweet and generous Ryuk! In the vial, I get some craving for PIE! (Say it like Cartman) I get the spices and butter rum more than anything else. On my skin, it still has a pastry overtone with saffron (is that similar to cinnamon?) and more butter rum with cream. At first I thought the saffron was going to be too much, but it mellowed. Very nice. Veeeery nice. A tad overrated, but very good indeed. Glad I got to try it! ADDED 2/9/09: Hm. This is nice, but I'm not crazy about it. It begins with that foody cream, and it becomes something sultry with the sandalwood element. Quite a bit of unidentified floral going on in the background and I'd lay money there's gardenia in here somewhere, cause it ends up with that slightly sour downturn I almost always get from gardenia. This is the killing point. It has a lot in common with Oval Portrait, which is perfection on my skin from beginning to end, and it almost becomes it, but for what I described. I'm swapping it for something I've wanted for a long time, so everybody's happy Edited cause I was seeking to amend my earlier review instead of making a new one. Whoops, sorry bout that! Mods, please merge them.

    Faith

Ahh, I was right. I like Faith much better than Hope. Soft violets when wet. For about a minute there I was fearful of it turning ultra-powdery with a sour touch like Hope, but it calmed down and went back to soft violets. Not very sugary and just a touch powdery. Though this is not the greatest violet scent I've ever known, I enjoy it quite a bit. With me usually, violet=unbeatable. (Even Numb was pretty good.) I can see getting a bottle of this.

    Midnight on the Midway (2006)

It started out a little soapy, but turned into a sexy floral incense. Reminds me a little of Chrysanthemum Moon, tho not at all the same. Worth at least one bottle!

    Khephra

I agree with Gwydion, medicinal tea. It's got some gross cinnamon thing going for me, and who would think that I'd ever think cinnamon could be gross? Definitely some clove action too. My mom might like this for that reason, but I sure don't.

    Tisiphone

The Avenger of Murder smells like ylangy sweetened potato flakes. That is all.

    Beaver Moon 2007

Graham cracker crust set to perfume! With some sweetness that's not exactly fruity, just sugary-creamy. I like it quite a bit - not as much as the old concoction, but if this doesn't sour out on me, I'll keep it. Update: "Ummm, Beaver Moon 2007, we need to talk. I really like you and whatever, but...you're just too plasticky for me. Sorry it didn't work out, have a good life, kthxbye."

    Swank

What the hell are people talking about when they say this is pomegranate? It's fruity for sure, but it's more like cheap citrus candy drops to me. I think Persephone does a much better job with this note. The wear length is nil. Pass.
  15. Limelight

    Bearded Lady

Cannot believe that I've never gotten around to reviewing this. It's one of my top ten LE's. On me, this is not a light, powdery, girly-girl scent, nor is it an old lady scent. It's the fragrance of a mature woman, classy and sophisticated, thanks largely to the amber note. Everybody else is pretty much second fiddle, tho the lily and jasmine are somewhat perceptible. Just a fab amalgam on my skin. And no allergic reaction! If amber is a winner on you, try and pick some up.

    Hope

Okay. I like it, then I don't like it, then I like it again. It is a sweet candy rose fer sure. Not like Two, Five and Seven, not like Rose Red, not like Peacock Queen, not like Persephone, not like Lucy Westenra. Nope, it has the most in common with Moon Rose and Bearded Lady, except that BL has that awesome amber/lily/jasmine power play that makes it smell like a mature woman's perfume. It is not an uber-rose scent. Hope is juicy when it's wet, takes on a sour flavor midway and completely dry the powder note is prominent. So, I'm kinda on the fence. Powdery isn't my favorite - I'm never after the baby powder perfumed toiletries that the cosmetic industry thinks women are so crazy about, but Hope is sorta nice. All in all, I'll keep it a little while and see if I change my mind, but I won't be that upset if I manage to sell or swap this baby.

    Chaste Moon 2005

In the bottle, it's got a good spicy/milky thing going. On my skin, if you want a pineapple milk wash, this is it. Not bad, but there's this unkind plasticky backnote going on that dies down a bit over time, but still lingers. Oh well, I just sold my bottle, so that's well, then I'll try it again when this is resurrected, and you know it will be.

    Envy

Mint, check. Lime, check. Lavender is quite muted. This scent smells like the green of underwater plant displays at nature parks. It actually helps me breathe a little better, which is a nice change from some of the sneezing fits I get from some BPAL scents. And, it feels a bit strange to say, but this is a kind scent, particularly funny since this is an interpretation of envy. Friendly and sweet. Would probably stand up to an oil burner.
  19. Limelight

    Urd

Grapey. And now it's musky. And now it's almost gone, after about ten minutes. For heaven's sake.

    Nemesis

Y'know what? I must be Nemesis herself, the Goddess of Divine Retribution, Justice and Vengeance herself. Y'know why? Cause when I applied this perfume, my skin ATE it. ATE IT. Gobble. It was gone within two minutes. This must be some kind of new record. All that's left is this bare, oily wisp of fig? maybe? Hee hee. Vengeance is mine.

    Vampire Tears

Once again, BPAL's white notes did not fail me. With all the different incarnations on people's skins, I feel like I'm trying to describe the flavor of Mary Poppins' health tonic. Heady and sweet at first, it dies down and for me it basically becomes lime and vanilla cream, with a touch of wood much later. Maybe the grapefruit, tea, ginger and neroli influences combine this way on me. No butterscotch, cherries, candy, lemon sherbet or cleanser. Medium throw and lasting power. Good stuff. No longing or regrets.
  22. Limelight

    Snowblind

It is a mint for sure, but that goes away pretty quickly on me. The vanilla is dominant all the way through, with a short stopover in plasticy. No throw at all as far as I can tell, but the slightly buttery vanilla sticks by me. As some have said, it is on the verge of foody, but not quite. A classy perfume! I'm glad I finally own some.

    Baku

All righty. It's mixed, y'all. It smells nice - antiseptic lavender - which is fine, and it really mellows me out tout suite. I feel very sleepy and relaxed after inhaling this. HOWEVER, both times I've used it, I've had BAD dreams. Wha'ppen? Am I not virtuous enough?? I know the second time was probably cause I had too many covers on my bed, and I woke up hot. A bad trick every time. But still. I'll have to make sure I use this on a chilly night (cause I want some winter, dammit) and then see. I'm not ready to give up on it yet.

    Hexennacht (2005, 2016, 2019)

Now why can't everything I try smell this good on me? I would have been happy with fir trees, woodsy smoke, even sweat-tinged skin, tho not bacon. Definitely not bacon. But, I'm digressing. Like I said, the first three things would have been fine, and I got some of them in the bottle. On my skin, however, I got the very best as far as I'm concerned, which is skin musk. Yeah boyeee! Maybe with a touch of smoke, the smoke that rises from campfire embers and cloaks the stars from time to time. A delicate, beautiful blend which lasts around 4 hours. I am privileged to own a bottle.
