  1. Valuable in relieving the vapors and in reversing depraved conditions of the system!
Doc Constantine’s tonics will make you happy, hale, and hearty!
Sassafras, vanilla extract, oak leaf, CO2 butter extract, and onycha.

I am the absolute worst person to start off this review thread, but it seems like I received my order pretty quickly, so I gotta share the love!

This is brilliant. To me, this is just like picking sassafras leaves and crushing them in your fingers. The smell of the taste of chewing those leaves, if that makes sense. It's not crazy foody and sweet (and I say that as a generally non-foody fan), but sweet in the way that sassafras naturally is.

There is a slight feeling of effervescence to me, and an undercurrent of a vanilly sweetness. This has great staying power, and I couldn't stop sniffing myself--my husbeast said "I want to drink you!"

    Thumbs up.

  2. This is absolutely my perfect scent, and I can't believe I hadn't tried it before now. I have been kind of sad lately that I haven't recently sniffed imps that I wanted bottles of, but this is in my bottle future.

Even though it's not listed as a note, this has a red musk vibe to me. Very sensual, musky, warm, myrrh-tastic, and...guh.

    Love. :P

  3. GUH.

    Ugh*tremble*huminahuminahumina*quiver*ohbaby*ooooooh.

    Yeah.

    *IZ DED*

    ETA:

Okay, so I got wet-noodled for not being more descriptive. Sorry, this scent killed me. It is an unholy union of Typhon and Hellion, with extra sexxx. Delicious. Dark. Heavy. Incensey. Resiny. Dark.

  4. Foody lovers, rejoice! Alas, I am not one of you. But this has that buttery, donuty top note of The Crumpet Rebellion and so many other of those sweet scents y'all love.:P I can't swing it myself, but I know this will be a hit for many!

  5. Wow, everyone’s reviews of this scent are so different! I was excited by the mentions of sexy sweat and spiciness, but on me, it’s rather sweet. In fact, the dry down is very much like Hungry Ghost Moon or Tamamo-No-Mae on me, so there you go. Nice, but not a bottle for me.

  6. I wanted to like this so much, as Xiuhtecuhtli is one of my holy grails, but it had nearly nothing in common with the Xiu. It is a very pleasant light floral, but is rather generic to my nose and not incensey at all. Of course on you, it may flourish and bloom.

  7. Oh, I don't get pickle at all! This is just lovely, warm, softness, but with nice throw. It is in the same camp as Hunter Moon and Coyote, but doesn't get powdery at all. This is so nice.

ETA: The bottle art is gorgeous, too!

  8. I don't get any coconut from this, but rather a sharp incensy smell, heavy on the sandalwood, like a stronger Midnight Mass. It may mellow out as it ages, but as is, it is a bit sharp for me. Do try if you're a fan of Midnight Mass but want more throw!

  9. It's funny, when I received Pumpkin IV and V and sniffed them in their bottles, I swore that they were mis-labeled. In the bottle, IV smelled so sweet and Pumpkin Queen-esque that I was certain it was actually V but mislabeled. However, once it hit my skin, I knew there was no mistake.

On my skin, I get a bit of a pencil-shavings note, but only on one of the spots I applied to (plus I kind of like it anyway). I got this because I love sweetgrass and there's only one other BPAL blend with it, and this does not disappoint. This is not sweet, foody pumpkin, but fresh pumpkin with fall sage and sweetgrass. THIS is the scent of fall. Oh, it makes me miss living in a place with true fall. Sigh.

  10. Wow, this one was quite a surprise for me! After reacting very negatively to the aquatic/ozone tang of October, I feared this one would be headache-inducing as well. Not true! This starts off with a very true damp tree note then morphs into a burnt, but not smokey, wood. It settles down with a hint of a salty aquatic-ness and a sweet scent somewhere in between floral and foody. It's so hard for me to describe this one, but it's really a surprise winner!

  11. This really is exquisite--it is truly the smell of autumn, of leaves and cold and dampness. But I have to realize that these scents that excite me so much in their realistic woodsiness, Whippoorwill and Nocnitsa to name a couple, always end up giving me that headache-inducing men's cologne/ozone experience. It is lovely and amazingly crafted, but not good on my skin.

  12. Oh I love this so much! And I'm glad, because I paid way too much for it on Ebay :P.

I see the similarity others note to Minotaur, but it's not as single-note myrrh on me. It's surprisingly subtle; I expected it to have much farther throw, but it's a soft, delicious, close to the skin scent for me. Beautiful resins and no baby powder on me!

Try if you like Priala, Minotaur, Midnight Mass, Snake Charmer, etc.

  13. Argh, as I was hurridly trying to test this out today, I spilled half the bottle all over my coffee table. :P Oh well, it goes to charity, right?

Anyway, I don't quite know what to think of this scent. I love patchouli, I love ginger, I love spicy scents, I ESPECIALLY love red musk, but there is a bitter note beneath everything I can't quite put my finger on. Perhaps it's a bitter clove, and on me, it overwhelms all I should like about the scent and replaces it with a scent that gives me the shudders. Now, I haven't read the book, but maybe this is appropriate. This scent certainly affects me on an emotional level, that's for sure.

I will let this age and see how it goes.

  14. I initially passed on getting an imp of this, since citrus is nice but not particularly compelling to me. However, some of the reviews played up the sage and muskiness, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Well, it's super bright citrus, much like the grapefruit in Cheshire Cat. This is not my thing, but if you like light, fresh, citrus-y scents, you'll like this.

  15. I agree with others that 51 has that vague commercial perfume smell. To me, it smells like a Brazilian perfume called Accordes by O Botacario, but it makes me sneeze less. It's very nice, a universal sort of catch-all scent, but it doesn't have the unique flavor of other BPAL oils.

Nice, but not terribly exciting to me.

  16. This is far, far more floral than I anticipated. I love Red Musk and Morrocan spices, but sadly for me, they did not come through.

For those of you who love Chrysanthemum Moon and Mama-Ji, try this one. It is a very haute, regal, intense, and powerful woman. Very opium-esque with that mysterious scent that on me spells like urine but on others apparently smells like awesomess. I'm sorry, this was so bad on me that I don't know how else to review it! But if this is your type of scent, you'll love its intensity.

  17. I've been sniffing away, trying to come up with a good review for this one, but words are failing me. Yes, it smells dignified, but not like a pomade-haired great uncle or anything like that. There is that slightly sour incense note that I find in Nag Champa and some sandalwoods, but it's not off-putting. The incense note has a similar feel to Midnight Mass--light, nice, and hard to nail down. I really like this one, and wish I could put words to it better, but I'll settle with calling it a smooth, regal, dignified scent.

  18. I need to learn that wintry, snow scents just aren't for me. That being said, if you are a fan of The Darkling Thrush, you'll like Crow Moon. It has that delicate, cold floral touch that on me is headache-y and soapy, but works on many of you. Lovely, but I will be passing it on.

  19. This is quite nice. I am often disappointed in BPAL cinnamon, as it often smells like red hots or like super hot and overpowering cassia. This cinnamon is just right. I mean...purrrr...just right. I'm never sure how myrrh will go on me, but in this blend it adds a wonderful smoky, resinous depth to the fabulous cinnamon bark. Oh my, I am pleased with this one!
