  1. I have a new top five! Some life changes have lead me to lighten a lot of aspects of my situation and that has also been reflecting in my scent choices. Here's the new top five right now:

    The Fox Sisters

    Snow White

    Hellcat

    Perversion

    White Rose

these are all LEs, but the first one is available most years at Yule time, which also makes it fairly easy to find secondhand: Pink Snowballs; Go To Sleep, Darlings; Winter-time; Love. and I haven't yet tried Alan McMichael from the brand new Crimson Peak update, but it's boozy (like Hellcat and Perversion) and people keep saying it reminds them of Snow White

  2. Since you guys are so awesome at recs I could definitely use help in finding new stuff I may like! I'm still pretty new to bpal.

My favorites right now are probably

    Snake oil

    The witch queen

A fire for my stepmothers daughters

Mme Moriarty (but it fades in like 30mins on me)

A stroll through the quarter. (Perfection)

I like sweet incense, dark fruits, some floral. I like patch in small doses. Leather amps like crazy so I'm not a fan. . Thanks!

Try Countess Willie, Morocco, and Bordello...and maybe Morgause

  3. I'm a newish fan looking for recommendations. So far my favorites are, in no particular order:

    1. Snow White

    2. Tweedledee

    3. Katharina

    4. Dorian

    5. Strawberry Sufganiyot

I like sweet, citrus, vanilla, florals. Thanks in advance!

For Snow White, try Winter-Time and definitely one or more of the snowballs. Since you like citrus, I would try Yellow Snowballs. The snowballs come out at Yule time, so be on the lookout this winter! If you ever see a bottle of Love for sale, grab it! It's strawberry rose marshmallow. You might like White Rabbit, Chanukkiyah, Avunculus, Bette Noir, Bewildered In A Dream, Catherine, Harlequin, and Hunger. Iulia, L'Artiste du Diable is a new/remix scent for the current Carnaval Diabolique so I haven't smelled it, but the notes sound right up your alley. Also Jezebel, Lolita, and Maenad. A couple of LEs in this list, but mostly general catalog stuff.

I am fairly new to this, only having tried most of the GC or fairly easy to get LEs, but this is my list so far:

    1. Liz

    2. O

    3. Oblivion

    4. Wrath

    5. Bastet

Most of the notes I find myself gravitating towards are vanillas, amber, warm musks, and spices. I know for a fact that bitter almond, and fougere smell like crap on me. I would appreciate any help or thoughts!

Lyonesse, Tamora, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, Velvet, Good, Paladin, Halfling, Hellcat, Grog

  4. I'm new and would love some recommendations to help me narrow down my next imps to try! Here is my 5's so far that work well on me.

    1. Lovers and a Fan

    2. Venus Cloacina

    3. Pele

    4. Fairy Thorn

    5. Ava

I also like Tamora, Bastet, and Dorian, those work well on me too.

For Lovers, try Obatala. For Venus, Le Serpent Qui Danse. For Ava, Lady Death : Savage. For Tamora, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale. For Dorian, White Rabbit.

  5. I'll fish for suggestions too. My top scents:

    Half Elf v 5

    Bakeneko

    Fenris Wolf

    Tamamo no mae

    OLLA Ava

Notes I like include most florals except rose, most woods, red or blue musks, tea, stone fruit like apricot or cherry, vanilla, honey, resins and patchouli

Notes that ruin the blend are rose! although I keep trying, melon, cucumber, white musk, ozone, cumin, allspice (but I usually like cardamom and cinnamon), galbanum (unfortunately)

you must try countess willie, the witch queen, and bordello

  6. In the mood for... my next order... :rolleyes2:

In the past I found myself quite enthusiastic about many scents but gradually I've noticed I was using only three of my many imps... I really like a few more but I don't see myself reaching for them...

    My three loved ones:

    Tombstone

    Hermia

    Dana O'Shee

    :wub2:

I like sweet, girly, soft and warm notes with a little foody undertone. A little bit of spice is always welcome (pink pepper, cinnamon...). Honey is ok to a certain point but can be very annoying.

I dislike Dragon's blood, incense, most florals, lemony scents, mint, dark musks, sandalwood...

Severe headache warning: rose, incense, labdanum

Lyonesse, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, Tamora, High-Strung Daisies, maybe Morocco

  7. Anyone got recs for spicy vanillas that aren't necessarily gourmand? Like, vanilla-tinged "florientals" and the like? I want to dip my toes more into the sweetness of vanilla, but hate smelling like food. ^^;;

To give you an example of vanilla blends I dig - I kinda like Euphrosyne and Lyonesse, and really like my bottle of Hod v2. Dolce Stil Nuovo and Three Brides have a nice vanilla flower smell in them that I enjoy as well. I don't like Snake Oil (yeah, blasphemy, I know) because it's got patchouli - that note makes me physically ill, so it's a 100% dealbreaker. Honey doesn't make me ill, but I also don't really like the smell, so O was a no-go when I tried it.

you might love Lady Death: Savage, or Ava

  8. I'm still pretty new to BPAL, so my scent list as of now is:

    Tenochtitlan

    Kumiho

    Eat Me

    Kurukulla

    Bon Vivant

This might seem a little limited right now as I haven't tried a lot of heavier scents or things with strong-profile notes (patchouli, leather, etc.), but I'd love to hear some recommendations based on these and maybe branching out!

Try Wanda to branch out! Good, Paladin, Elf, Half Elf, Tamora, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, Blood Kiss, Antikythera Mechanism, Belle Epoque, Lyonesse, Against Idleness and Mischief

  9. I seems to favour a somewhat different scent profile than most of the people already playing along, but what the heck:

    1) Spinning Multicoloured Metallic Pinwheel

    2) Embalming Fluid

    3) Boober

    4) Strawberry Moon '09 (with the grass and dandelion sap)

    5) Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Bat

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

fairy wine, ghost houses, the current venus blend that has wildflowers

I'd second Velvet Unicorn and suggest Candy Phoenix, Dirty, Shang Hai, The Unicorn and Titania. And Wensleydale for the clean, fresh scent, even though I personally haven't tried that one yet.

I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar enough with the other Top 5s to make recommendations.

Here are my current (ever-changing) Top 5:

    1. The Unicorn (my ultimate grail)

    2. Whip

    3. Boo

    4. Hope

    5. Candy Phoenix

wanda, go to sleep darlings, love, hesiods phoenix, ezekiels phoenix, the last unicorn

    Alice

    Kitsune-Tsuki

    Suggestions?

Nice choices! Maybe Bordello for a different tone of plum from Kitsune-Tsuki, and Maiden or The Sea Foams Milk for things somewhat like Alice?

    1) Tamora

    2) Obatala

the future ball, claircognizance, love, mouses long and sad tale, reflected vulva, black opal, lovers and a fan, hesiods phoenix

Ooh, cool, I could use some help! (unfortunately I don't get to usually experiment with a ton of perfumes, and usually get attached to things which are either LE's or discontinued....) My top 5 (in order of love) right now would be:

    Moon Rose

Strawberry moon 12' (but after it's calmed and become less fresh/sugary)

    Hope

    Morocco

    Katrina Van Tassle

    Please help! :)

definitely hunt down love. pink snowballs, arana, the future ball

  10. So we have lots of threads based on particular notes or moods you like, but I would love a recommendation thread based on our top five favorites!!

    My favorites, in order:

    1. Banshee beat

    2. Saint fountain de Versailles

    3. Aged morocco

    4. La lalugubre gondola

    5. Variety of pleasing amusements

Based on those, can you think of some I should try? And what is your top five for us to base our recommendations on?

You should try Feed Me and Fill Me With Pleasure, Hesiod's Phoenix, Little Maggie, Question Mark, and Prosperous Flowers of the elegant Twelve Seasons.

  11. I am in love with BPAL's plum note. :wub2: Many of my fellow BPAL addicts suggested that I try to find a decant/imp of Queen of Spades. This seems to be almost impossible. I have also been told that Blood Countess is very similar to Queen of Spades... unfortunately Blood Countess is discontinued.

Please tell me there is hope and that there is a current GC that is similar to Queen of Spades.

try Countess Willie or The Witch Queen. they're both unimpable, so you would have to buy blind bottles or find a decanter, but if either of them works for you they're both permanent installments.

  12. I've been wearing SELBSTVERLIEBT bath oil every day as a moisturizer. It goes really nicely with Vain Sorceress, and I've also worn it successfully with The Girl, Peacocks, and Le Serpent Qui Danse. I've mostly complemented it hairwise with Coconut, Vanilla Bean and Tiare, but it's also nice with Mid Orgies.

ETA: Shining Dimple of Love goes nicely with Dorian HG, and any Dorian-based perfume.

  13. Vin de Bourgogne with smoky beeswax, a splash of rose water, cracked pomegranate, bruised, fallen lily petals, and a smear of tobacco absolute.

Holy gods, this is obscenely lovely. I bought several Luper atmos, and I sprayed each in a different room, closed the doors, and then went around to smell each one individually. I sprayed this in the guest bathroom, and when I walked in my jaw dropped. I ended up spraying it throughout half of the apartment after smelling it. It's a really beautiful floral with a dark sweetness; the beeswax and tobacco come together in an almost chocolaty way. I don't know that I could really pick the notes apart as well as some could, but I do know I'm considering selling off 2 or 3 other atmos and just stocking up on this and putting it in every room. It's gorgeous. Really stunning. If you're considering it at all, try it.

  14. I'm so sad about this one. In the bottle fresh out of the mail, it smelled like the most perfect vanilla imaginable. Not foody, not masculine, just vanilla. After the bottle had settled for a few hours, I sniffed it again and got a lot of cream, some rice flower, and still some vanilla. I used it as a moisturizer after my shower and it's fairly strong when used in that form (on my arms and legs). It's all cream and maybe rice flower, and it just turns my stomach. I really dislike this type of cream smell, but had such high hopes for a primarily vanilla BO (and thought it could be a different type of cream, as I do occasionally like things that have a creaminess). I don't know if it's specifically the combination of cream and rice flower, but I can't wear this again.

  15. I first met the Countess in sniffie/tester form as a frimp. Which makes sense, because based on the notes list I never would have sought her out.

Chocolate plum musk sounds intriguing and delicious, but chocolate tends to be something I like but never reach for, while a lot of plums go too intensely sweet on me. I'm generally not a fan of red musk, and find it overpowers most blends. I really dislike smelling like almond, so it would take a pretty amazing notes lineup to make me give amaretto a shot ( ;) ). I wouldn't necessarily shy away from a blend for containing candied fruits, but it would be the sort of thing that would make me say, "hmm, hope that behaves." I really like the smell of ginger, but I don't normally want to smell LIKE ginger, and it can overwhelm many blends for me.

In short, there is no reason in the world I should like Countess Willie.

Dear gods, I love her so much. Top ten, for sure. I finally have a full bottle and can slather her on, and holy hell, it's just -- I love her. Everything behaves. It's dark and fruity, a bit creamy, and the ginger adds just the right amount of spice and character. I can't pick out the red musk or amaretto, but I can get a sense of them deepening the blend and helping everything meld seamlessly together. I just absolutely love this oil.

I remember trying Bordello and thinking that it was very beautiful but a bit too accurate and evocative. If I still have an imp around I'm inspired to retest it after reading all of the comparisons to CW, although I also think the spicy element of CW might be providing the perfect balance that Bordello was missing for me. This is a blend that will boost my happiness and confidence, and is both sexy and comforting. I just love it.

  16. Old-school Bathsheba (with the older labels) was my plum heaven fragrance, but Midwinter's Eve and Budding Moon were good too, though the plum in BM tends to fade to let the florals in.

Bordello is also plummy but with a dash of red wine, seems a bit boozier.

Was surprised that Purple Snowballs was as plummy as it was - was hoping for more blackcurrant :D

wait wait wait a minute...Bathsheba was reformulated? I have a bottle from '06 and decided I loved it so much I purchased a back up ummm a year or two ago. By older labels do you mean pre yellow things they use now? Off to check labels. Off to check and see if they smell different... I saw no sense in opening the back up while I still have one in use until this. What is this? Are you sure that it smells different?

Usually when a scent has been reformulated, it says so next to the title on that scent's review page in the forum. Bathsheba doesn't have anything next to the name, so it was probably not reformulated. Maybe mspixieears just prefers it heavily aged?

  17. Ok guys, we need to find an equivalent to House of Unquenchable Fire! Implacable Beautiful Tyrant Hair Gloss is very complimentary, but I want a perfume too (and a bath oil, candle, and anything else.) In the meantime, I am spraying HOUF all over my clothes (but worry about staining)

I know I'm not alone in adoring these scents!

I second this for the house!

    Hesiod's Phoenix.

Oh yeah!!! Hesiod's Phoenix is definitely the one. :wub2: La Lugubre Gondola is my 2nd choice, but Hesiod's is even closer.

Now if only I could find a bath oil that completes the layers of gorgeousness! Today I'm wearing Hesiod and IBT with Unhappily Ever After, and while they play nicely together, UEA is quite strong and definitely has its own voice that changes the song from the basic silky vanilla resins.

  18. I don't think this belongs in general layering recs and I haven't found a thread for this, but please merge me if I'm wrong. I'm wondering which bath oils, hair glosses and other BPTP products people like to layer with which perfumes?

I find that Nymphes de Pave perfume layers perfectly with The Wars of Venus bath oil, and Yellow Snowballs perfume is delightful with Lightning Storm hair gloss. Unhappily Ever After BO enhances the effervescence of any champagne scent.

I would love to find a hair gloss and bath oil that complement The Girl, suggestions for a more or less neutral hair gloss that goes with everything, and more perfumes to wear with my Sudsy She Wolf bath oil.

  19. Resurrecting this one because I wanted to know what plum scent you all reccomend for me. I'm looking for a fat, juicy, sweet, strong plum. I want a lot of sweetness but that dark richness that plum has. A strong and long lasting plum is a super bonus. If it's mixed with anything make it sweet like vanilla, milk, chocolate even...please help me... :beg: thanks!

I'm late here and I shouldn't be saying this, because it's my most hopeless DISO, but Countess Willie.

  20. Arana, also from Tremulous Song, is more vanilla than marshmallow, but to me it has the same fluffy, creamy feeling as Love. I also get a similar fluffiness in the current Yule Go To Sleep, Darlings, but where Arana and Love are both beloved bottles for me, I don't think I need more than my decant of Go To Sleep, Darlings.
