    Dee

This was a frimp from the lab, and I'm so glad I got to try it, because it is DIVINE. The leather is apparent when it's wet, but it mellows on drydown and blends beautifully with the woods. Oh, the woods are just so yummy. It's a very dry scent to me, like a library full of old books and mellowed woods has been kept warm and well ventilated to keep the damp out. Like other reviewers, I found Dee a little too masculine to use as a personal scent. I think I'll keep the imp for cozy evenings at home, and maybe on the offchance that I get the chance to slather it on an SO. edited more than a year later, after a BPAL break. I was retrying all the scents I remembered liking and this has rocketed to my top ten. It's still sort of masculine, but after a couple of hours it sweetens up a lot on me and becomes extremely well blended delicious sweet spiciness. gorgeous.

    Chimera

Really cinnamony. This was the oil that convinced me a I didn't like myrrh- it just smells too soapy/SHARP to me. Chimera ended up being very sharp cinnamon, and I didn't like it all that much.

    Black Pearl

Black Pearl is Delicious. On me it's a yummy coconut with an earthy backdrop that's just sweet enough. I do feel that it stays close to the skin, which I like, and which means it can be a pleasant everyday scent for me. It joined my top five the first time I tried it.

    Cathode

I got this as a frimp. At first it was quite minty, but it dried into a cool, unisex (fairly masculine) aquatic. I couldn't really distinguish any individual notes ( my palate is completely unsophisticated.) Quite pleasant, but not me at all.

    Blood Moon 2005

I definitely got cinnamon when this went on, and it's stayed fairly cinnamony. There are layers behind the spice that I can't quite identify though. They may be herbal, and something's slightly metallic/bitter. Hmm. I think I like this, but I will have to give it a bit more time.

    Wings of Azrael

This scent is green and zingy. I can't pick out any individual notes at all, but it's much more aquatic/herby/woody than floral to me. it's got a great energizing effect.

    The Ghost

I was completely surprised that I liked this oil, since I usually go for spicier scents. It completely won me over though, it is just completely gorgeous. It's a clean, light, fresh floral, with no soapy notes, that doesn't hang around very long. Hmm. My description doesn't even begin to do it justice. It's just... utterly lovely.

    Satyr

This was a frimp from the lab, Thank you lab! This blend is incredibley aptly named, on first sniff I definitely smelled goat. On my skin the goat got a bit sweeter and started smelling of horse apples/barnyard. I don't mean that in a bad way, actually, I like the way that barnyards and horses smell, but it's not something that I would feel comfortable wearing. I'd love to smell it on a man; it's a very rugged, sexual, animalistic oil, but since there are no men like that in my life right now, it's off to the swaps.

    Hetairae

in the imp this is a very sweet patchouli. On my skin the fig comes out, and as it dries the clove and honey start to drape themselves over the fig. The patchouli is very subtle, and works as a nice stable anchor for the other notes, which work SOO well together. By dry down I can't distinguish any individual notes, but a lovely mellow, sweetly spicy blend. Bottom line: I LOVE this scent, which is surprising because usually patchouli really frightens me. But this one works so well that it will be the first to go on my big bottle list.

    Golden Priapus

In the imp I got the woody vanilla. On my skin I smelled nothing but screaming amber with a bit of wood and I ended up washing it off within 5 minutes of applying. This oil was the one that convinced me that Amber hates me, and the feeling is pretty much mutual. It has already been swapped to a better home.

    The Hesperides

This is a buttery apple scent. The butter kind of confuses me, to be quite frank, and my skin tends to overamplify buttery scents. The light freshness of the apples is pleasant and special that I'm going to keep this around and sniff it some more. A lot more.

    Lampades

this turned out much less fruity on me than it seemed to on most reviewers. I couldn't really detect any individual notes- wet it was a slightly bitter, musky floral. once on my skin though, the bitterness amped up a lot, and overwhelmed the florals. A little to acrid for me, alas, so it's going to the swap pile.

    Ulalume

Ulalume completely surprised me, because I was not expecting to like it. However, the stark dichotomy between the light pale florals hovering over fresh dirt and leaf mold was just completely ... intriguing. It's a very quiet, still oil. Good for nursing a hangover- those days when I wish I was buried. Overall: will keep the imp and use it up.

    Juke Joint

I was hoping that this would be a fresh and minty scent, but alas, I got no mint out of it. I definitely smelt the alcohol, but on my skin it morphed into something that smelled more of baby shampoo than bourbon. *pout* I've already swapped it away to a better home.

    Jack

Wet: this is an imp of hot melted butter. With quite a throw. I was almost afraid to put it on. Once on my skin the peach peeks out a bit, and sweetens the butter, and as it dries the spices come out to play. Yum! Overall- slightly different than I was expecting, but then BPAL always exceeds my expectations. A lovely cozy stay at home scent.

    The Lion

In bottle: Sweet amber Wet on Skin: VERY sweet amber, a hint of spice Dry on Skin: the spices are coming out to play, and toning down the sweetness a bit. I'm seeing why other reviewers mentioned a "dry" feel to this scent. Dry down: the spices went away again and the sweetness came back- leaving a dry, sweet smell. Throw: medium Conclusion: This might be a bit too strongly sweet for me. If only the spices hung around longer. This will go in my maybe pile, to be attempted again at a later date.

    Hunger

Origin: part of an imp lot I got on Ebay In Bottle: Intriguing- kind of thick, with bright citrus overlay Wet on skin: huh. this is not liking my skin. Smells kind of medicinal. Reminds me of medicated shampoo...tar? Dry on skin: still medicinal, but has sweetened up a bit. Very thick, almost harsh. Reminds me of a Chanel perfume (I can't remember which number) that my grandmother used to wear. I can't pick out any real notes, it's just dark and sweet. Dry down: twelve hours later, after my shower, I can still smell it on me, and it's mellowed to something very nice, sweet, with a touch of tartness. But before the shower it was still very strong. Overall: Rather unpleasant on me. Or maybe, wearing this scent would require a kind of chutzpah that I don't possess. To the swap pile.

    Mi-Go Brain Canister

In the bottle: very sweet, very fruity, with a hint of peppery musk hiding out. Wet on skin- still sweet, but with a fruity tang, a kind of mango/melon combo. dry on skin: it's getting kind of powdery/soapy but it seems like the florals are coming out to play. The fruits are very subdued. It's so sweet it's cloying. I'm feeling it in the back of my throat. Dry down: this mellows into a light peppery musk, but retains too much of the too sweetness for me. I really wanted to like Mi-Go, but my skin seemed to pull out all the wrong notes and it's far too sweet for me. Have I mentioned that it's sweet? yeah, to the swap piles with the fun squishy brain.

    Forbidden Fruit

This is the first BPAL scent I've tried. In the bottle it's very sweet, fruity floral. Wet on skin it smells strongly of one note, I guess it's lotus, but it reminds me vaguely of honeysuckle. There is a hint of fruity tang in the background, but it's very faint. I can see why other posters mentioned bubblegum. That's pretty spot on. I think my body hates this scent. The first time I tried it, I felt extremely nauseated, and now it's giving me a headache. I washed it off within minutes of putting it on. It's just too sweet for me, so it will go off to the swap pile.
