  1. Snootier Bat has leather at the forefront when you open the bottle and sniff it, and even on initial application. 20 minutes in, though, it's a soft, sophisticated incense with a dark and slightly sweet vibe that has a decent amount of staying power. My only complaint is that I wish there was more leather in the dry down!

  2. It's very light in the bottle, and definitely has skin musk front and center, but after wearing it for about ten minutes what emerged was a slightly floral musk with an elegant vanilla, with a very subtle breath of sandalwood. Totally in love with it.

  3. I'm lucky enough to have Antique Lace imps from 2005, a bottle from 2007, and now this new batch to test side by side. While the newer version reads as slightly more vanilla in the initial sniff, that's probably because my comparisons are significantly aged, and I do remember getting brand new bottles that smelled just like this. With the older versions on one wrist and the new on the other, 30 minutes in, they're identical.

  4. An olfactory guide, created to assist you in locating nearby hippies: patchouli, hemp, smoky vanilla bean, and cannabis accord.
(No, there is no actual weed in this perfume, silly.)

I really couldn't imagine that I would like this, because who wants to smell like weed? Except this smells REALLY GOOD. It's herbal with just the right amount of patchouli so it's not heavy or incense-y. After a half hour of wear time, it smelled sweet and slightly smokey with only a light whiff of Mary Jane.

  5. So freaking lovely. I've told Beth that I think the Lilith scents are amongst her best work, and that's definitely the case yet again.

This is definitely a mermaid, with the salt water, the faint scent of kelp, but it really just smells pretty, and sweet. Something faintly floral or sweet is there that takes this away from being your usual aquatic. Even if you don't love aquatic scents, try this one. <3

  6. Autumn — overlooked my Knitting
    Dyes — said He — have I
    Could disparage a Flamingo
Show Me them — said I

    Cochineal — I chose — for deeming
    It resemble Thee
And the little Border — Dusker
    For resembling Me

For my knitter posse! A warm scent, as delicate as lace and as soft as cashmere, and as cozy as wool, punctuated with red currant for the blazing red of cochineal and surrounded a border of soft grey ambergris and a swirl of autumn leaves.

Interesting as hell, and beautiful when it dries down. When I first applied this, I mostly got the leaves. Like a pile of damp leaves, which isn't bad because I totally associate that smell with fall. But then as it dries, the fuzzy grey ambergris comes out to play and suddenly the scent becomes slightly resiny, soft, and cozy. Really gorgeous, and a surprise morpher.

  7. Pumpkin artwork by Amy Kinard!

Pumpkin cream with cardamom, black tea, allspice, and ginger milk.

I have to confess to being generally ambivalent about pumpkin, with the exception of Pumpkin King. A few of this year's Weenie's might have changed that, though, especially this one. I get pumpkin (fruit, not pie), allspice, and cardamom with a drop of tea. It's a great spicy fall scent that still stays edible smelling, without going to the generic pumpkin pie that I mostly get from pumpkin fragrances.

  8. The pure and luminous joy of dawning love: white melon, oakmoss, bergamot, apple blossom, Italian mandarin, Florentine iris, nutmeg, and white musk.

I'd love to write a long, thoughtful review that properly reflects how much I flove this scent, but it smells like melon Hi-Chews, kind of. Of course, it's more balanced and smells like FANCY Hi-Chews, but that gives you the basic idea. This is so damn pretty, and if you like fruit in scents at all, you have to try this.

  9. Blue musk with white chrysanthemum, cascading wisteria, benzoin, vanilla orchid, ume blossom, and black plum.

This smells like a sweeter, brighter sister to Blue Moon 2004. The blue musk, and the slightly crystalline quality of that fragrance, without being aquatic, or bright floral. :wub2:

  10. Black tobacco and oudh with 5-year aged patchouli, bitter clove, warm leather, peru balsam, and rum accord.

As soon as I saw the description for this and clove mentioned as a note, I was hoping for something similar to Thriambus. This is in a similar family, and yet totally different - and surprisingly, I'd pick this one over Thriambus every time. Rich, deep clove with dark patchouli, and warm soft leather. I was afraid it would be overly boozy because of the rum accord, but the overall effect is masculine, deep, and sexy. :joy:

  11. An exercise in self-love: sugared jasmine with vanilla and black orchid.

Gotta be careful with jasmine - if it's combined with the right notes, it can be gorgeous, but too much of it can give me a headache. This scent is definitely jasmine and sugared cream, smooth and sweet without being sickly at all. So pretty! You don't need to wear a perfume if you use this one in your bath, because the scent is definitely present without being overwhelming.

  12. Vanilla orchid, vanilla absolute, and black tea leaf.

When I read the description of this one, I thought for sure it was going to be a multiple bottle purchase. The scent sounds gorgeous, and I'm sure it is, but it's so light that I feel like I really have to work to smell pretty much anything at all. I'll use the single bottle I have and get more Castitas instead. :)

  13. This scent is GENIUS, and although I wasn't sure I was going to even try it, I'm so glad I did. Because this is unexpectedly one of my favorite BPAL scents ever. Maybe I've just worn too many vanilla based scents because now smelling like a cupcake is kinda 'meh'. I need something more special, more unique, something that makes you do a double take or feel like you *have* to keep huffing. This scent is it. It started out in the bottle as a very rich lemon cheesecake with the tiniest hint of thyme, but it lightened up as it dried down into a creamy cheesecake with light lemon - very reminiscent of lemon meringue, but no, it's definitely cheesecake, right down to the graham cracker crumbs. My skin has been eating up oil recently and most scents have vanished within an hour or two, but this one stuck around all day. It was so beautiful, not too heavy but strong enough to be clearly detectable. Not so sweet as to be sickly. Just gorgeousness. :wub2:

  14. Wet, this was a very understated, low key vanilla with a bit of fruity sweetness to it. After about 10 minutes, it seemed more golden (maybe the amber and saffron coming out) and I could only detect the smallest amount of freesia in the background, which I really liked because it stopped Serotine Bat from being just a simple vanilla. This is so much prettier than I expected, and I really love it. It wears close to the skin, but it hung on and was detectable for 6 hours after application.

  15. On initial application, Mopsfledermaus is in your face clove, cardamom and ginger, which surprised me. I think I expected something softer and was a little worried, but after wearing it for 10 minutes or so, the most dominant notes really mellowed out and it dried down into a very warm, fuzzy brown scent. :wub2:

  16. It's my policy to always buy every Beaver Moon and Beaver Moon resurrection, so I was thrilled to get this one even though I didn't read the description so I had no clue about the apples. As a general rule, BPAL apple scents dry down with a decidedly sour edge on me (stupid body chemistry), but the cinnamon saves the day here making this a surprisingly realistic apple cheesecake fragrance. Juicy and delicious. :yum:

  17. I wore this to meet with a person I was VERY nervous about meeting, and although it didn't seem to help me to feel any less jittery or any more charming, it did seem to have quite an effect on how this person perceived *me*. In fact.. the end result makes me wish I could wear Charisma all the time. :wub2:

  18. MRS LEWIS
Mrs. Lewis of 45 E. Houston street keeps a private house of assignation. It is conducted very quiet and orderly.

    White sandalwood and tea roses.

You'd think it'd be all tea roses, since rose is such a bossy note in my humble opinion.. But you'd be wrong. This one is pretty much even balanced, with the wood evening out the floral so it's not OMGINYOURFACEROSE. Sadly, as it fades, it starts taking on a sweet, powdery quality that doesn't work for me.

  19. MISS JENNY
Miss Jennie Creagh, a dashing brunette, has splendidly furnished her palace at 17 Amity street, from top to bottom, sparing neither expence nor labor to render it a palace of beauty forever, with it's French mirrors, English and Brussels carpets, rosewood furniture, superb bedding and everything in character. This emporium of love and beauty is one of the finest in the city.

Pink peony, white carnation, freesia, white peach, amber, and pale woods.

Of all of the NYCC exclusives, this was the one that sounded the prettiest/sweetest to me, but it just goes to remind me ONCE AGAIN that even though notes are mentioned, we have no idea in what proportion. I was expecting to be able to detect more of the floral notes here since I adore carnation and freesia. What I get from this once it's dried down is mostly amber, pale woods and white peach - very beautiful! It's *elegant*, and though it does go through a powdery stage it ultimately ends up with the sweet peach and pale woods being most prominent for me with a delicate carnation peppery kick, which I really enjoy. It wears close to the body but I love it. :)
