    The Hanging Gardens

In the imp, and wet on my skin, this smells of...pear tart. Just a little spicy, a little fruity, with maybe a hint of baked goods. After it dries, the rose comes out, still with that spicy undernote. To my surprise, I like it. It's light and very feminine. I don't know that I'll wear it often, but I think it'll be perfect for formal occasions.

    Vice

I had high hopes for this one. Alas! In the imp, it was the same cocoa note as Freak Show, which I love. But when I applied it, the cocoa disappeared, and in its place was a very bitter, medicinal fruit smell. Eventually, the cocoa re-emerged, sort of, but the bitterness gave it such a sour note that I couldn't stand it. Off to swap.

    Sleepy Moon

Started off as single-note jasmine (yes, I know, it's not listed, but that's what it smelled like), and then quickly turned to soap. Bleah.

    The Hesperides

In the imp, it was a light, apple-y scent. The moment it touched my skin? Cleaning fluid. It was vile. Off to swap.

    Tiger Lily

In the imp, it was heady, overwhelming lilies. Once I applied it, I was suddenly struck with a memory - being at the pool with the kids, hot sun beating down, water & sweat mingling on my body. I moved my arm away from my nose, the memory faded. Got a whiff in another minute, and it came back. I held out my arm to my daughter, and said, "What does smell like?" ::sniff:: "Sunscreen." Yup, that's exactly what it smells like. Huh.

    Sundew

Ok, that's weird. I got a sticky, overwhelming amber note from this, and no flowers at all. My body chemistry is bizarre.

    Odin

In the imp, this was a warm, slightly masculine scent. The moment it touched my skin, it shouted, "I am a MAN! Smell me, for I am MANLY!!!" Oh, dear. I don't really want to smell Manly - that's my husband's job. I couldn't scrub it off fast enough - and unfortunately, it really stuck with me, even after three washings. Weirdly, when I took my kids to the park later, a raven (Odin's bird) flew into a low branch near me, and cawed until it got my attention. I acknowledged it with a tip of my head, and it flew out of the park. Huh. Wonder what that means? ETA: On my husband, this smelled like a sweet soap. o_O

I was really looking forward to trying this one, as it seemed the most complex of all the new scents. I wasn't disappointed. In the imp, this was watered-down grape soda. You know, where you had a glass of it, and your ice has melted, but you can still smell the grapey-ness when you lift the glass? Like that. I applied it sparingly, as I feared a reaction to the chili pepper. Wet, my skin drank it down until there was no scent at all. Weird. That happens sometimes. Dry, it smells...a little of apples, and some darker spice (the chili peppers). It's not too sweet, though it's fresh and pleasant. Very layered, and yeah, very complex. This is one of those that I'll be shoving underneath people's noses and saying, "No, really, try it on!" So far, a keeper.

    Osun

I didn't smell any honey at all in this blend. It's light and a bit astringent, very herbally and green, with the aquatic undertone that you'd expect in a perfume named after Osun. It smells more to me like a voodoo blend, and less like a perfume.

    Yemaya

In the imp, this smelled like honeydew, sweet and juicy. However, on my skin, this smells like...bubblegum. A cross between cherry and watermelon bubblegum. Ew. Good throw, fairly good hang time, but just...ew. Not for me.

    Red Lantern

In the imp, it was sweet...all honey and vanilla (though neither of those are listed as notes, go fig). When I applied it, there was a rush of spicy vanilla scent, and then it began to bloom. Sweetness and the golden notes of amber just amplified on my skin. I thought it smelled lovely, but it's VERY STRONG. A little dab'll do ya, as they say. The amber made me a bit ill after a while, but now it's toned down a bit, so that I can smell the dustiness of tobacco underneath the other fragrance. Very complex scent. I like it, but I'm not sure that it's really me.

    Budding Moon

This smells...pink. Sweet, but a little sharpish, very 'girly'. Really not my thing.

    Venus

On me, it's a kind of sour aquatic, with a strangely 'commercial' tone. As a personal scent, I think it's really only useful for layering.

    The Perfumed Garden

Jasmine. Pretty much single-note for the first couple of hours. Now it's backed off enough that I smell the myrrh, but still... Not for me.

    The Premature Burial

I'm sad to say that I had such a strong negative reaction to this scent that I could not bear to try it on my flesh. It smelled of grave dirt, and not in a good way. ::shudder:: My daughter tried it on, and lo and behold, it smelled...like patchouli. Seriously weird.

    Bewitched

In the imp: smells like...grape juice. You know, the kind of purple grape juice that's all tangy inside your mouth? Wet, there was a sour rush of green that made me go "Ew," but it dried to...yep, sugary sweet grape juice. Truth be told, it's a little much. Think I'll be washing it off.

For once, the jasmine did not elbow its way to the front of the room and flash me. This went on as a heady bouquet of buttercups, and stayed that way for several hours. Now, four hours on, I can smell the jasmine, but it's muted by the other notes. This is a very pretty, girly scent, which totally isn't my thing, except...growing up, my mother always had tons of daffodils planted everywhere. This reminds me so much of home that I think I must keep the imp and wear it when I'm feeling homesick.

    Hetairae

In the imp, it was all sweet-spicy, golden and lush. I dabbed it on, and suddenly...whoa. Cleaning fluid? Wait a few minutes for it to dry, and...bleah! Now it smells like those fake cinnamon brooms! Dammit! I lovedlovedloved the way this smelled in the imp - I'm so disappointed. An hour later, the 'cinnamon' smell is finally receding, and I can smell the fig and clove, but it's still harsh and fakey. Woe.

    Amsterdam

Actually, it smells like...grass. Green, fresh grass (except this doesn't ping my allergies! Yay!) As it dries, there's the hint of tulips, all springy and beautiful. I really like this one - it's perfect for springtime wear. It's not precisely me, but I like it, all the same.

    Lampades

In the imp, it was super-sweet cranberries. Wet, I can smell a rush of dry spices (is that patchouli?) that fade into the background as it dries. Dry, it smells of sweet-tart cranberries and a bit of ginger. No lilies anywhere to be smelled, and no musk as of yet. Hmm. Not sure if it's really for me, though it is a highly unusual blend.

    Berenice

The description may claim it's a 'cerebral' perfume, but I think the word that describes it is heady. Wet, the scent of lilies is overwhelming, but they're not cloyingly sweet. The musk deepens it, and the aloe (which I can just catch hints of) gives it a fresh note that balances the lilies very well. As it dries, the linen smell moves to the forefront. Final analysis: This smells clean, that just-been-washed-and-dried smell. Not exactly what I would have associated with a short story about digging up one's dead love to steal their teeth, but hey...what do I know?

Wet, this smells like a hothouse of exotic flowers. Drying, the vanilla rushes to the forefront, with just a hint of exotic flowers underneath. There are apparently two kinds of vanilla used at the lab - one smells yummy and foody, and the other smells...well, kind of like a candle. This one is the latter (in fact, it smells like the vanilla in Lick It and Milk Moon.) My husband says it reminds him of pipe tobacco. I really don't care for it at all.

    Aglaea

Wet, this smelled like juicy peaches on me. As it dried, the musk came out and turned the scent a little dark. Definitely not for me.

I would never have tried this if I'd read the description first. I mean, it sounds like everything I dislike. Carnations? Bleah. Red sandalwood? Eh. Cassia? Ew. Instead, I had no idea what was in it when I popped the cap and dabbed it on. WOW. It was subtle, sweetly spicy, with a warm vanilla undertone and an exceedingly complex blend of spices layered on top. I'm in love! It's got amazing staying power - four hours later it's still going strong, and it smells great.
