  1. I also would like to try this!

You sound a lot like me in high school. Hated every moment and was very reserved, though I was also a bit of a rebel. :P Don't worry, once you get out into "the real world" things get infinitely better. You do what you want on your own terms and only have to associate with the people you choose.

Fairy Wine - An ethereal vintage, steeped with dandelion, honey, and red currants.

Antique - Fossilized amber, juniper berry, wild musk, oudh, vetiver, white cedar, black currant, oakmoss, and leather.

Ranger - Untamed wilderness: buckskin accord with Terebinth pine, Russian birch, black ironwood, elder bark, hay, armoise, juniper, patchouli, galangal root, Spanish moss, and cabreuva.

Aglaea - Three golden ambers, bright musk, peach wine and myrtle.

Tamora - Amber, heliotrope, golden sandalwood, peach blossom and vanilla bean.

Silence - White sandalwood, iris, blue musk, lotus root, moonflower, plum blossom, green tea, white mint and white peach.

Jupiterian Phoenix - Sarsaparilla, juniper berries, Himalayan cedar, Terebinth pine, sweet clove, green tea, nutmeg, and hyssop.

Ship of Hel - Black oak and sprucewood with opoponax, myrrh, black ambergris, and the silent ice of Niflheimr.

(I know you said you don't like aquatics but I picked it for the smoothness and peaceful vibe it evokes. It's not salty if that's what bothers you... a beautiful, sweet ice + woods scent.)

You know BPAL also used to have a Juniper Berry SN, but it's very old now.

I want to second Ranger and also add Josie.

  2. Thought I'd give this a shot for the hell of it.

    Basics:

    Late 20's

    Gemini

    Female

My fav scents generally tend to be florals and aquatics. Patchouli literally makes me ill. Very earthy scents usually leave me feeling like I'm suffocating, and I tend to not like smelling like food, though fruity florals will sometimes get a pass.

...wow. Was that too long?

    Nope, not too long.

Here's my list- Alcie, Absinthe, Pele, Fairy Bites, Titania, Lavina the Creature, twinkle twinkle little bat, ultraviolet, the east, kataskopia, Oberon, Thalia, Morgause, the Raven. Also you could try van van and high john the conqueror.

Basically, quirky, fun, spirited florals/herbs with a twist.

Most of Em are GC, hopefully easy to find. Good luck :-)

  3. Skin chemistry weirdness.

On me, this is the smell of "basement", but in a good way. An earthy, musty basement in which nature overtakes the stone foundation to leak and swell, and brood.

I don't see myself wearing this much, but I'll keep the imp. It's certainly not boring.

  4. My friend gifted me a bottle of this for my birthday! I'm so glad she did :)

I might have not picked this up on my own, but it's really nice with my skin chemistry. It's not a morpher, per se, but the boozy notes are stronger in the beginning. It is a sunny, light-hearted little fragrance, with the amber incense giving it a touch of sex. I agree there's sort of a citrus feeling to this, though I don't smell any actual citrus in the notes.

All in all, a nice springtime scent. Safe for work but it could be an evening scent, too. Win!

  5. This more of a curiosity than anything else :) I wanted to know any suggestions for green hair, since I just dyed my hair a shocking teal green with yellow tips x) (yes it's a bit crazy, I want to have a memorable school picture tomorrow) any suggestions? I'm new to BPAL so I appreciate insights

I second absinthe- also twinkle twinkle little bat, and Lavina the creature would also work.

  6. What about teal? :'D I don't tend to work with fully aquatic blends, but ambergris SN works quite well. My bf calls me his mermaid or his fairy.

I'd love to try something unexpected and new!

My hair is black and teal! Scents that feel "teal" to me of at least forest green- hello fellow teal person :-)

You could try lyonesse, yemaya, voodoo, if you want to try your luck with an aquatic there's alcie.

Faiza the black mamba could also work I think

  7. Hmm, describing oneself... certainly an interesting feat :). I've been here for a while now but never have managed to get around to this yet. I shall give it a shot!

I consider myself to be very laid back, in an absent-minded lazy-housecat kind of way, but I also struggle with mental stress as I tend to over worry and I can be a stickler for some things.

I appreciate exotic tastes and cultures, and love ancient styles (though I struggle with ancient-themed perfumes as they all tend to be too smoky, heavy, floral, or resinous-- I do like 'Morocco' though). I consider myself quite feminine, and I enjoy feminine things, but when I put the effort into going beyond "respectably comfortable and presentable" I tend to have a sophisticated womanly style, with maybe a touch of fun boho somewhere in there. I welcome the opportunity to be super-classy once in a while (really I could probably spend half of my time doing so happily) with the whole shebang, but usually I am minimalist in my day to day- with a twist.

I enjoy the decadent things in life, but don't consider myself much of an overly "bubbly" person, and I don't tend to obsess over sweets. I am definitely not a morning person lol, but I love sunrises and sunsets and warm beaches and relaxing massages. I can be quite the firy hellcat when I get really mad, I've heard :P , and I know I am of a very protective nature. Currently I am at a crossroads and trying to figure out my life; but I am not unfulfilled either... just maybe in need of some balance and a recovery of my drive, my old creativity, my ambition.

I do have/did have a vixen-esque side, but she rarely comes out to play (if ever). Mostly I spend my time being supportive, calm; quietly and observantly in the background. Once in a while I really like to get wild though! I enjoy listening to people's problems, advice giving, and generally trying to help those that seek it (besides goofing around with my hubby, cooking, and relaxing vacations which I also enjoy).

Well, I hope this helps! :wub2:

Some things that come to mind:

Jezebel, pandy, of the recent releases- lovers in the tea house, the east (exotic but not heavy), French love (for the lazy house cat sensuality), mag mell, crow moon, tintagel, the book, thousands of lights, coralline jones, cleric.

These suggestions seem completely random but there is some method to it, somewhere, I guess...

  8. Ethereal grace in earthly form: cherry blossoms, pink roses, and graceful white lilies under a sheen of pale honey.

This is the second Lupercalia to break my heart this season.
I love cherry rose scents and have been looking for something to replace my bath and body works Japanese Cherry Blossom. I knew this was a bit of a long shot but had to try because it's a cherry rose.

We have sweet, feminine roses, delicate cherry blossom, delicious soft honey. And then LILIES that come in and stomp all over it and turn the fine concoction to soap. Pretty in the bottle, pretty on my skin for the first five seconds, then the lilies go hot screechy diva on me and suddenly, it's a dove bar.

The good news is that I think it's a skin chemistry thing. This might be positively glorious on the right person. It's truly lovely in the bottle.

  9. Dark chocolate and lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.

    Le sigh.
I wanted to love blood kiss bonbon.
I tend to do well with vampirically-themed scents- callidora, vilf, and of course blood kiss itself work magic on me.

And, you know, vetiver can be a bit of a bully, so I got this just hoping that minus that vetiver tang, you'd be left with a dreamy dark cherry.

And that's mostly what happened. And it was, well, kinda weak. Don't get me wrong, this scent does what it's supposed to do. It *is* a blood kiss Bonbon, cleverly executed, picked up at some exclusive chocolatier. I'm sure there are many who will LOVE this. But with my chemistry, it's all kiss and no blood. It reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer when Spike got that chip in his head so he couldn't bite anyone. And I felt just kind of sorry for him, he just skulked around the graveyard, not knowing what to do with himself. Oh, and somehow it has a note of tea, though that's not listed here.

I guess I just like my Spike as the Big Bad. I will wear my blood kiss, and pass on this one.

That said, I do predict it will be a hit. My fiancé even really likes it. But he recognized it isn't me.

  10. Note- I did a search for this, so mods, please forgive me if this fits another thread. I don't think anything in the recs was quite what I was going for.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a scent for me. I was looking for something that smells like a Faery Shoppe I go to visit sometimes. It's layers and layers of incense upon incense, dragons blood, glitter, ferns, books, magical herbs, dried flowers, amber, honey incense, candles and just basic wonderfulness :-) . You get the picture :-) it's stepping into another world. I also associate it with going hiking so adding some outdoorsy whiffs might be fine too.

I love Fairy Market, but only have the one bottle and it is now out of stock. Also, I consider fairy market a springtime scent and I was looking for something a bit autumnal, if possible. And it may be a lot to ask, but I would love to find something like this in the GC so I can hoard and hoard :-)

    Thank you

  11. I agree with the above reviewer, that there is sort of a clove after-whiff that kind of sticks in my throat. This is one I have to avoid sometimes if I feel like I'm catching a cold.

That said, this is wonderful. I received this as a freebie from the lab, fell in love and had to buy a bottle.

It's all a blast of !cherries! right when I first apply. It fades quickly to the deep, sultry dragons blood resin I get from dragons heart, but it doesn't have the currant bite like dragons heart. It's very warm and resiny- like a smoky cherry incense. There's a musky feeling to this one too, but I'm not catching any actual musks in it. Just a cloud of warmth. Big love.

Some people have called it masculine or unisex- on me it's very femme. But it's bold, warm, mature, not little-girly.

    My fiancé loves it too.

If you want to sweeten it up- try layering it with O, that is prettier on me than either dragons milk or blood kiss.

  12. I can see why someone might be reminded of Maleficent with this one but to my mind the fictional character evoked by vain sorceress is Laura Palmer. Dark, scary, tragic, mad.

As a floral lover I purchased a bottle, un-sniffed. I'm glad that I did- though it's not really a daily scent. It shares some notes with an old favorite of mine, Dior Hypnotic Poison. It is indeed hypnotic, soft, the dark vanilla keeps the cloying florals in check. It bears some semblance to Dior but actually closer to Kat Von D's sinner perfume, but less foodie and lacks that migraine factor the commercial brands seem to induce for me. Nothing to my knowledge in the bpal catalogue like it, no comparisons here.

This might change depending on the wearer, I'm not getting a foodie scent at all, it's all bold floral and dusky amber.

Very pretty, but a mood scent. Not so much for wearing to church, or meeting the in- laws or hosting a company luncheon. Unless your company luncheon involves some type of weird sex-money-power scandal and you're eating sushi off someone's body.

Which, by all means, wear it, you might get promoted.

    Keeper.

ETA- it does actually remind me of a GC blend that's been discontinued: Black Dahlia lovers might give this one a try.

  13. This is exactly the type of thing you would imagine. It is warm, fragrant gingerbread fresh from the oven, and subtle spicy vanilla. It is a very convincing scent- think actual spices and cake, nothing fake or perfumey about this one. If you're thinking, why yes, gingerbread snake oil sounds delightful then I highly recommend this, you won't be disappointed. The ginger is more emphatic than the snake part. I agree this might be even more delightful with age.

My fiancé loves it. My one complaint is that the throw and wear time are a bit short, but I don't mind slathering because it is so yummy.

    4 of 5. :-)

  14. Braving the Ice

White mint cookies with a drizzle of pomegranate cream, dusted with confectioner's sugar.

oh, my- the first review feels like more pressure somehow! And I want to do this one justice, since it's sooooooooooo delicious.

I will also add a disclaimer that my skin turns most things into incense and powder/woods, so most sweet scents get toned down a lot on me.

I got a bottle of this for a friend and because I'm a stinker like that, I tested a little on my wrist with a q-tip. I immediately ordered myself a

bottle. It is taking all of my reserves to walk to the post office and mail it to her!

    HOLYEFFING*&*!! this is good...

In the bottle it smells syrupy sweet, so I was a little skeptical. I was also a little nervous about mint notes as I tend to like soft, warm perfumes. Not to fear! The mint, on me is tame at best, mostly it disappears into the background to add a crispy freshness. The pomegranate cream note blends smoothly with the yummy, buttery shortbread cookie scent and creates a cloud of deliciousness. OMNOMNOMNOM. I don't know if it's my skin or the cream note but there is a musky softness to this that makes it a bit sexy as well, like a skin scent.

But, in the end this is all about the confectioner's sugar. I smell like a pretty cloud of vanilla sugar, and it somehow isn't overly sweet but has enough throw to notice. It's all lovely- vanilla-cloudy-softness. My boyfriend LOVES it. And I can totally see this working with an Otto and Victoria theme! Yay! :wub2:

I edited this to say that it reminds me a little of Demeter's Angel Food, which I really like. For days I want to feel feminine and happy.

  15. I agree this is like the original HM. However, this one strangely is darker and woodsier on me, and lasts longer. Being a jasmine fan, of course I had to order a bottle

At first it is like. WHOAH almond, the first five minutes it's like Black Forest cake goes to a naughty party. Then because I have the type of skin that makes everything woods and incense, it becomes more forest and less cake.end result- a wonderful, wearable woodsy vanilla. I'm glad this was released near Halloween, I wore it with my lady gaga costume. Seemed appropriate somehow. I would have preferred a little more jasmine, but all in all very pretty. Jasmine haters, you might be able to wear this one. 4 out of 5. Yum!

  16. Ranger

wild and wonderful! I really enjoy this blend. On me this is all forest. It doesn't have cedar listed but what I'm smelling is the cedar incense that I get from midnight mass, just a little woodsier, with a touch of spice.

A bit masculine, don't know if I can wear this every day but I will definitely keep the imp. It would be nice for winter hikes. Very well blended. I can totally see this as a winter holiday scent, as well. Yet another of the RPG blends I am impressed with.

  17. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this one.

I had always thought I was in the small minority of those who can't wear snake oil. I'd tried it aged, new, different years, etc, and it always went bitter medicine on my skin.

For no reason I ordered a bottle with this years halloweenies, and guess what- it's awesome! Wtf?

Soft, spicy vanilla. More cozy than sexy - safe enough for the office, but sultry enough for evening wear. It seems to have "moods" on me- it can amp spices and patchouli- I swear there's patchouli in this- or it goes quiet and subtle. Very strange. If it doesn't work for you the first time, keep trying.

  18. Sylvia is in the process of breaking my heart.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this one, but I love Voodoo and guessed it might be along the same lines. It's actually similar, but a little bit softer, more feminine than Voodoo. As the other reviewers have said, this is woods in winter, snuggly fur, a perfect holiday scent. Daresay it might even be one of the top 5 in just prettiness of perfumes I have smelled. I do live in the mountains and looked forward to taking this with me on hiking trips.

Then, she did what any massive canine might try, and curled up on my chest in the middle of the night. Stupid asthma, preventing me from being able to wear certain musks! argh.

I will wait and see if I can teach her that I am alpha. If she can't learn to play nice, off to swap.

  19. Lavina is nice! I am not generally a fan of "fresh" scents- give me smutty resins, incense and deep florals. But, I have four "fresher" scents that I turn to when I want to feel "breezy" - which, I admit is not often. This is one of them; the others are Fairy Bites, The East, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat.

Lavina is definitely in that scent family. If you like any of those other three, this might be worth the splurge. I am totally curious about the bath oil and hair gloss.

It smells like a fruity cocktail. I was tempted to swap or sell it out, but remembered that I turn to these scents usually in hot summer, or the dark nights of winter when I'm wishing I'm on a tropical island somewhere. No backup bottle, but I'm hanging onto it and will return when it's once again seasonally appropriate. :)
