  1. I'm bumping this thread, not just because we're close to Valentine's Day, but because I absolutely have to have THIS:

There's always White Chocolate and Sugared Violets, which was a 2009 Lupercalia scent....

OMG, white chocolate and sugared violets? No kidding, I have to have this - what else smells like this? I'm guessing it's gone, since it sounds like a LE?

    Thanks!

There was a 2012 Yule called the governess- white musk, violet and vanilla were in the notes, this might be up your alley? I think they're gone now but you might be able to find some on the sales or swap pages... :)

  2. As for me. . . . a special ed teacher who is currently a stay-at-home mom. I'm fighting the fact that finances will require me to go back to work in the fall and I'll also have to take classes to keep my teaching license. I'd rather focus on my family and friends. Active in music at my church & enjoy a monthly music & mead group at a local meadery. Love to sing, read, walk in the woods, swim, camp . . . love scifi & fantasy wear a lot of blue jeans & T's but enjoy funky & colorful when I have a chance to dress up. Love cooking (& eating) currently short hair but I cycle thru long & short over the years. It used to be blonde, then dark blonde, and just recently turned all the way brown (with little bits of gray) Blue eyes. Love to relax & laugh whenever I can.although since becoming a mother there's a lot less time for relaxing (and even less in the fall . . .) A Taurus.

For you, LisaNut, I'm getting an "Elf" vibe :)

  3. I would agree with Whip for stella.

as far as anais anais have you tried juliet or leanan sidhe?

my mother used to wear this and while I can't remember exactly what it smells like, i believe it is in the same fragrance family...

    :) happy hunting

    Hi Everyone!

I'm fairly new to BPAL, and I am rapidly becoming completely addicted. I'd love to draw my mom, sister, and SIL into all the smelly goodness! I thought that finding BPAL scents that are close to what I remember them wearing might be a place to start. I'm terrible at figuring out notes, but here is what I found on the Internet for the perfumes I remembering them liking. (I think my sister has moved on from her teenage scents, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to be a bit nostalgic!) Any thoughts you have on the following perfumes would be awesome!

Stella - "In the top notes there are rose oil, peony and a gentle touch of fresh tangerine. In the heart of the perfume there is rose, whose gentle scent is emphasized by the deep note of amber in the base." (A few earlier posts mentioned The Empress and Whip as possibilities for Stella. I have imps for both on order!)

Amarige by Givenchy - "The top notes are composed of fresh fruit: peach, plum, orange, mandarin, with the sweetness of rose wood and neroli. The floral bouquet, very intense and luscious, is created of mimosa, neroli, tuberose, gardenia and acacia with a gourmand hint of black currant. The warm woody base is composed of musk, sandalwood, vanilla, amber, Tonka bean and cedar." OR Notes (from Jan Moran): mandarin, neroli, violet leaves, rosewood, gardenia, red fruit, ylang-ylang, acacia farnesiana, mimosa, musk, vanilla, tonka bean, woods, ambergris.

Pleasures by Estee Lauder- Top Notes: White Lilies, Fresh Violet Leaves, Green Accord

Middle Notes: Black Lilies, White Peony, Pink Roses, Jasmine, Karo Karounde blossoms, Baie Rose

    Base Notes: Sandalwood, Patchouli

L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci - "The floral-spicy note of the carnation is in centre of its composition. Bergamot and rosewood support the development of the carnation theme, refined with the notes of rose and jasmine. Violet and iris give a powdery nuance, and create a harmony with the woodsy notes of cedar and sandal, while sensual musk and amber add the final feminine accord to the composition."

Anais Anais by Cacharel - "Transparent orange blossom with heady hyacinth open the composition. The intensive floral heart blends sweet rose, delicate white lily and magical jasmine. The base is composed of comforting amber, warm sandalwood with a tender touch of misterious incense."

    THANK YOU!!

    Edited for typo.

  4. One thing is screaming at me: Raven Moon

    :) either year

I've been wanting to do this for a while! I'm curious to see what you all will come up with for me. :D

I'm a nearly 22 year old classic goth. My entire closet is a wall of black. My styles vary within though. I alternate from gothabilly to Victorian influenced goth and a more hard edged grunge goth. As long as its macabre though, I'm all over it. My home looks like a headshop, and most of the time smells like it too. My fiancé and I have a fabulous collection of taxidermy, bones, masks and artifacts from around the world and tons of candles everywhere. I practice paganism, though I'm not very strict with ritual. I identify with it and have adapted many aspects into my life. I find it calming.

I am Romani by blood, which I find actually gives me stronger sense of site and ritualistic power. Some people would say that is BS but my family swears by it. My grandmother's site was very strong-- she had crazy visions.

I am a lover of fine arts and classic art. On my freetime I do a lot of painting and odd mixed media pieces. Im hoping to have a show sometime soon. I spend a lot of time at museums drawing and exploring. As I said before I love all things macabre and Victorian, my aesteatics definitely lean heavily on those categories. However I'm also a huge nerd. I love Doctor Who, and work with MayFaire Moon corsets and costumes to make the TARDIS corset. I work with electronics and boobs at my job. It's pretty awesome. My actual job title is Mad Scientist because we're crazy people and do innovative things with clothing, electronics and props. Aside from Doctor Who, I love Star Wars and Star Trek -- yes, there can be peace between the franchises! Also the lesser known Farscape. I play a ton of videogames too. I have two ceiling high bookcases filled with them. In my younger years I was really into anime and manga.

I do love a good book though, modern media hasn't wasted my mind. I enjoy classics like Jane Austin and Bram Stoker, and the odd well written and quirky modern published books like Neil Gaimans works or The Girl Who Circumvented Fairyland.

I am currently in school part time while I work, studying product design. I started school in mechanical engineering building robots, and changed into product design. I got to keep my robotics concentration, so I hope to some day beable to work on prosthetics and help design them to be as human like and elegant a replacement as possible.

I'm loud and strong willed. Nothing keeps me from speaking my mind unless I know the situation is truly inappropriate. I will gladly talk back to one of my professors or my boss -- I won't take something sitting down. It has definitely gotten me in trouble but it has always been worth it. I'm also very snarky, sarcastic, extremely intuitive, and strong willed. I have been described as a Japanese Daruma Doll or a Phoenix, because you can knock me down but I will always get back up and rise from the ashes.

That's a very rough part of my life. I have a very rare brain disorder that looks like migraines strokes and seizures, but isn't. No one knows how to treat it, only try to give me maintenance with numerous meds. I had to leave school for a year, and the years previously I struggled through many of the semesters, but still pulled through at the top of my classes even when I was failing and in and out of hospitals earlier in the semester. I'm very proud of my strength and tenacity. It's what I do best; keep on going and never give up.

My favorite scents are: smiling spider, black lace, crypt queen, Dorian, Witch Dance, Harvest moon, lady lillith, sleepy moon.

I live dark woods, incense, wine, clove, lavender i gravitate towards blends that are dark and sexy-- things that require blood red lipstick and smoky makeup. I do like some sweet perfumes too, but rarely foodie, so I'm open to suggestions. I can't do white florals. Rose does work, it depends on the blend.

  5. oh, can I play? I'm 30. I am an actor/comedian, classic ENFP, and more than a little scatterbrained. I am hispanic, but not the sort of stereotypical curves and feisty temper kind - I'm more the chubby, vaguely hipster, self conscious type. .I wish I was better at making things with my hands. I used to WANT to want to be a florist if that makes any sense - as I've gotten older I realized that I will never want to be a sex kitten or a delicate lady enough to actually BE one of them. I can't buy a book on a weeknight because I will stay up to finish it, often baking a pie because the the description of some food made me ache to find out what it tasted like (I'm looking at you Harry Potter treacle tart!)and I think there are very few things more satisfying than a good, solid, leap of faith.

I'm looking at a morpher perfume for you since you seem to defy categorization. This is a good thing :)

Dee, Machu Picchu, Eat Me and possibly Juliet are speaking to me for you. As far as limited editions- maybe Loi Krathong?

  6. I want to try this thread again, because I believe my personality is changing from two years ago when I posted. I'm now 31, incredibly in love :wub2: , beginning a career in the non-profit sector (HIV/AIDS and environmentalism). I have been feeling the more feminine side of my personality lately, focusing on my family, and being in the outdoors. I have strong beliefs, but have been moving away from conflict towards a quieter, more introvertive, meditative state. I write fiction/fantasy, and I still am obsessed with Stevie Nicks. I am a practicing eclectic Wiccan. I love my garden and surrounding myself with flowers, and organic vegetables. I love purples and greens. I love fantasy realms, unicorns, fairies, mermaids. Sometimes I'm dreamy and sort of out there. I'm fine with that. That's me, in a nutshell.

I am reposting this because my personality sort of changed after people did this for me the first time back in like 2010. Then the second time, I was skipped- just curious for opinions. I forgot to add that I do have a fiery streak. It's quite calmed now, but it's there.

    thanks :)

Ella LaRose- fairy market is screaming at me to you. If you can find it. Good luck!

  7. Also- Espoir, I've been also looking for something that combines floral with more mossy or woody or amber undertones in the gc for a while now. I have not tried the annick goutal but it sounds up my alley.

Delight is one of my favorites ever and contains the florals. But personally as a jasmine and resin lover I haven't found a satisfactory combo. You might also try peitho, antheia, and parthenope. Lady Amalthea might also be worth a shot. Or if you can find some pannychis

  8. I second Pandy, also check out Venice. And as far as LE scents, Rosy Maple is nice.

Absinthe is not floral exactly but it's a sweet citrus. Good luck :)

Oh, and for plum- I think that kitsune-tsuki is superb or if you can find weeping branches moon :) Also- Prunella is a bit strong but it's very girly.

  9. Copal, precious woods, South American spices, agave nectar, cigar tobacco, and roses.

    2011 version:
What can I say- I LOVE this! :wub2:
It's not an intense, fiery, passionate love but rather a deep, abiding, gentle love that is sensual rather than overtly sexual.
Other reviewers have said woody, aquatic, floral- but on me the soft resins are coming out. No rose at all, but has a vaguely floral component.
it stays pretty true after hours of wear. It has some throw initially but lingers closer later on. I can agree with those that say it has elements of dia de los muertos, but it is more muted and doesn't have the whiffs of cocoa.
It provides an image for me of death- as a comforting sleep. My skin seems to love it. I may have to hunt down another bottle of this.

  10. this one oddly didn't work because it fit the description. I wasn't sure what to expect exactly but it's supposed to be berry, moss and woods- and it's berry, moss, and woods. It has a prettiness to it, smells natural and wild. But it reminds me of doing yardwork or something.

  11. I received my bottle in the mail today! Third Charm is lovely and deserves my full attention for this review. First I want to discuss comparisons:

I am very curious to see how this ages. I can agree with boomtownrat that this strikes a note that is similar to blossoms in springtime.

However, snake oil and blossoms in springtime were not winners on me and this one is. So, if you don't like snake oil, don't rule this one out.

On me, third charm is the most similar to Dragon's Heart- which is a very good thing, I have always loved Dragon's Heart and get compliments sometimes when I wear it. The shared note is red musk- it must be predominant.

So, this is complex but a few notes stick out, mainly the red musk and honey. It doesn't seem to change much for me from the initial application to the drydown, and it hasn't faded much in the past hour or two. The patchouli remains in the background, providing an earthy feel, while the florals whisper just faintly. I think this is one that people might be reminded of "hippie store" a little but in a good way. I think this will work really well for fall and winter. I'm keeping this bottle :)

Update- it's turned kinda sour. Maybe it's the cedar, I'm getting that "hamster cage" woodiness. ugh. swaps!

  12. Fresh white musk, honeycomb, sweet apricot, elemi, orange blossom, and mischievous pink pepper.

Oh- yay! I am surprised that I'm first on this one :)
Very surprised about this. I thought I would like it, and I do- but it is different from what I was expecting. With orange blossom and white musk I was thinking it would read like Juliet, but on me it's all about the honey.

In the bottle- this is deep and almost foodie. Very wet, very lush, very sweet.

Within the first five minutes, the honeycomb is crazily amped. It reminds me of festivals where you can get raw honey from the jar. I can't recognize the mimosa or elemi, though I can pick out the musk, apicot and orange blossom. The pink pepper is just kind of peeking out of the background.

The drydown is faint and sweet, but this has a lot more throw and weartime than I would expect, given the notes.

I really enjoy this scent and expect for it to be a fall favorite for me, the timing of the release of this is great, to me it seems like a perfect scent for a meadow in late august. It's very yellow, floral, dripping with honey. It isn't so much sweet and innocent the way I would have guessed. It is bold, raw, and there is something sexual about it. My boyfriend likes it, but I think it's still pretty safe for work.
I would add that my skin turns most scents drier and more woody/resin, so I could imagine this would become overly sweet on some people, but for me it is perfect. I could almost see this overtaking Jezebel as my signature scent.

    WIN! :wub2:

  13. This is an odd fragrance because you can smell all the notes when you pay attention, but the overall effect is that of a single-note, spicy, dusty cinnamon. I really do enjoy this despite not being much of a "foodie". Quintessentially autumn. A keeper- my boyfriend loves it though I fear he may try to eat my arm.
