If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!

Since bpal descriptions have proven unpredictable for me - of these scents, I have only smelled the apothecary. I can make an educated guess on 93 engine that you might like Mage or Cleric. Otherwise, not sure. But if you like the apothecary, you might like twinkle twinkle little bat, water of notre dame, high john the conqueror (which is total magic, btw), lovers in the tea house, and possibly absinthe or Thalia. By the way, thanks for the suggestions. I do want to try mme. Moriarty.

I'm glad I could enable, I mean, be of assistance. I want to try this one :-) It was really REALLY hard to narrow it down to five. But: Snake Oil Fairy Market Jezebel Callidora Blood Kiss

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!

Ok- from the top: If you like Jacobs ladder, you may want to try Cleric. For hungry ghost moon, (this is a bit of a stab in the dark, given that I haven't smelled it but am guessing by the notes) but try sudha segara or Gingerbread snake. For fairy wine, you could try blood kiss, or fairy market if you can find it. For yha-nth lei, perhaps Macchu pichu might be fun or Alcie. And to me go to sleep, darlings is very similar to Snow White and also is slightly reminiscent of boo. But for some other random stuff that I'm guessing based on synthesis of the fragrances, I will suggest Juliet, absinthe, nymphia, Alice, tweedledee, thousands of lights, pandy, door, lyonesse, and kuang shi. Good luck with your search :-)

You may like - in the GC Urd, Tezcatlipoca, lady MacBeth In LE, you could try Mictecacihuatl and calaveras, if you liked dia de Los muertos and also for the vineyard experience you could try mason and Jenkins port jelly. Good luck on your findings :-)

    Scents for thesis defense?

I cannot recommend High John the Conqueror enough! It's pleasant and I swear the stuff is magic.

    BPTP & BPAL Layering Combos!

I love Silkybat and Bloodbath both with Snake Oil perfume. Very dark and pretty and sugary. Bloodbath also goes well with the Eldritch Dark perfume and I suspect it will also work with rose red. I love the whole Callidora line But the silkybat especially plays well with others. I like a lot of the vanilla-y, musky scents, as well as some fruity florals and the silkybat is lovely to mix

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

You sound a lot like me in high school. Hated every moment and was very reserved, though I was also a bit of a rebel. Don't worry, once you get out into "the real world" things get infinitely better. You do what you want on your own terms and only have to associate with the people you choose. Fairy Wine - An ethereal vintage, steeped with dandelion, honey, and red currants. Antique - Fossilized amber, juniper berry, wild musk, oudh, vetiver, white cedar, black currant, oakmoss, and leather. Ranger - Untamed wilderness: buckskin accord with Terebinth pine, Russian birch, black ironwood, elder bark, hay, armoise, juniper, patchouli, galangal root, Spanish moss, and cabreuva. Aglaea - Three golden ambers, bright musk, peach wine and myrtle. Tamora - Amber, heliotrope, golden sandalwood, peach blossom and vanilla bean. Silence - White sandalwood, iris, blue musk, lotus root, moonflower, plum blossom, green tea, white mint and white peach. Jupiterian Phoenix - Sarsaparilla, juniper berries, Himalayan cedar, Terebinth pine, sweet clove, green tea, nutmeg, and hyssop. Ship of Hel - Black oak and sprucewood with opoponax, myrrh, black ambergris, and the silent ice of Niflheimr. (I know you said you don't like aquatics but I picked it for the smoothness and peaceful vibe it evokes. It's not salty if that's what bothers you... a beautiful, sweet ice + woods scent.) You know BPAL also used to have a Juniper Berry SN, but it's very old now. I want to second Ranger and also add Josie.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

Nope, not too long. Here's my list- Alcie, Absinthe, Pele, Fairy Bites, Titania, Lavina the Creature, twinkle twinkle little bat, ultraviolet, the east, kataskopia, Oberon, Thalia, Morgause, the Raven. Also you could try van van and high john the conqueror. Basically, quirky, fun, spirited florals/herbs with a twist. Most of Em are GC, hopefully easy to find. Good luck :-)

    Fenris Wolf

Skin chemistry weirdness. On me, this is the smell of "basement", but in a good way. An earthy, musty basement in which nature overtakes the stone foundation to leak and swell, and brood. I don't see myself wearing this much, but I'll keep the imp. It's certainly not boring.

    Lovers in the Tea House

My friend gifted me a bottle of this for my birthday! I'm so glad she did I might have not picked this up on my own, but it's really nice with my skin chemistry. It's not a morpher, per se, but the boozy notes are stronger in the beginning. It is a sunny, light-hearted little fragrance, with the amber incense giving it a touch of sex. I agree there's sort of a citrus feeling to this, though I don't smell any actual citrus in the notes. All in all, a nice springtime scent. Safe for work but it could be an evening scent, too. Win!

    Scent Recommendations By Hair Color?

I second absinthe- also twinkle twinkle little bat, and Lavina the creature would also work.

    Scent Recommendations By Hair Color?

My hair is black and teal! Scents that feel "teal" to me of at least forest green- hello fellow teal person :-) You could try lyonesse, yemaya, voodoo, if you want to try your luck with an aquatic there's alcie. Faiza the black mamba could also work I think

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

Some things that come to mind: Jezebel, pandy, of the recent releases- lovers in the tea house, the east (exotic but not heavy), French love (for the lazy house cat sensuality), mag mell, crow moon, tintagel, the book, thousands of lights, coralline jones, cleric. These suggestions seem completely random but there is some method to it, somewhere, I guess...

    Faery Shoppe

Note- I did a search for this, so mods, please forgive me if this fits another thread. I don't think anything in the recs was quite what I was going for. Hello, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a scent for me. I was looking for something that smells like a Faery Shoppe I go to visit sometimes. It's layers and layers of incense upon incense, dragons blood, glitter, ferns, books, magical herbs, dried flowers, amber, honey incense, candles and just basic wonderfulness :-) . You get the picture :-) it's stepping into another world. I also associate it with going hiking so adding some outdoorsy whiffs might be fine too. I love Fairy Market, but only have the one bottle and it is now out of stock. Also, I consider fairy market a springtime scent and I was looking for something a bit autumnal, if possible. And it may be a lot to ask, but I would love to find something like this in the GC so I can hoard and hoard :-) Thank you

    Faery Shoppe

Thanks- they're giving me things to think about. Snake oil has become a go-to for me lately. Holy flaming poop balls, snake charmer sounds great!!

    Scent Recommendations By Hair Color?

I wanted to resurrect this thread to add bizarro colors. I'm a natural brunette but I dye my hair raven black with dark green streaks. Scent recs for the manic panic junkies out there? I like vilf or callidora when I have vampire red :-)

    Blood

I agree with the above reviewer, that there is sort of a clove after-whiff that kind of sticks in my throat. This is one I have to avoid sometimes if I feel like I'm catching a cold. That said, this is wonderful. I received this as a freebie from the lab, fell in love and had to buy a bottle. It's all a blast of !cherries! right when I first apply. It fades quickly to the deep, sultry dragons blood resin I get from dragons heart, but it doesn't have the currant bite like dragons heart. It's very warm and resiny- like a smoky cherry incense. There's a musky feeling to this one too, but I'm not catching any actual musks in it. Just a cloud of warmth. Big love. Some people have called it masculine or unisex- on me it's very femme. But it's bold, warm, mature, not little-girly. My fiancé loves it too. If you want to sweeten it up- try layering it with O, that is prettier on me than either dragons milk or blood kiss.

    Vain Sorceress

I can see why someone might be reminded of Maleficent with this one but to my mind the fictional character evoked by vain sorceress is Laura Palmer. Dark, scary, tragic, mad. As a floral lover I purchased a bottle, un-sniffed. I'm glad that I did- though it's not really a daily scent. It shares some notes with an old favorite of mine, Dior Hypnotic Poison. It is indeed hypnotic, soft, the dark vanilla keeps the cloying florals in check. It bears some semblance to Dior but actually closer to Kat Von D's sinner perfume, but less foodie and lacks that migraine factor the commercial brands seem to induce for me. Nothing to my knowledge in the bpal catalogue like it, no comparisons here. This might change depending on the wearer, I'm not getting a foodie scent at all, it's all bold floral and dusky amber. Very pretty, but a mood scent. Not so much for wearing to church, or meeting the in- laws or hosting a company luncheon. Unless your company luncheon involves some type of weird sex-money-power scandal and you're eating sushi off someone's body. Which, by all means, wear it, you might get promoted. Keeper. ETA- it does actually remind me of a GC blend that's been discontinued: Black Dahlia lovers might give this one a try.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

I'm not sure is this is where to post because the scent I'm looking for a GC equivalent of is Callidora (bptp). Basically, it's the best! I love it and I wonder if anyone can recommend a good catalogue blend for it? (I think the notes are patchouli, blood musk, cacao, benzoin, myrrh).

    Gingerbread Snake

This is exactly the type of thing you would imagine. It is warm, fragrant gingerbread fresh from the oven, and subtle spicy vanilla. It is a very convincing scent- think actual spices and cake, nothing fake or perfumey about this one. If you're thinking, why yes, gingerbread snake oil sounds delightful then I highly recommend this, you won't be disappointed. The ginger is more emphatic than the snake part. I agree this might be even more delightful with age. My fiancé loves it. My one complaint is that the throw and wear time are a bit short, but I don't mind slathering because it is so yummy. 4 of 5. :-)
  21. JasminDreams2010

    The Cat

On me this is identical to Lush American Cream. I would say if you like that this is a must-have. It's pretty on me but for a benzoin fix I prefer callidora

    As Above

I agree this is like the original HM. However, this one strangely is darker and woodsier on me, and lasts longer. Being a jasmine fan, of course I had to order a bottle At first it is like. WHOAH almond, the first five minutes it's like Black Forest cake goes to a naughty party. Then because I have the type of skin that makes everything woods and incense, it becomes more forest and less cake.end result- a wonderful, wearable woodsy vanilla. I'm glad this was released near Halloween, I wore it with my lady gaga costume. Seemed appropriate somehow. I would have preferred a little more jasmine, but all in all very pretty. Jasmine haters, you might be able to wear this one. 4 out of 5. Yum!
  23. JasminDreams2010

    Ranger

wild and wonderful! I really enjoy this blend. On me this is all forest. It doesn't have cedar listed but what I'm smelling is the cedar incense that I get from midnight mass, just a little woodsier, with a touch of spice. A bit masculine, don't know if I can wear this every day but I will definitely keep the imp. It would be nice for winter hikes. Very well blended. I can totally see this as a winter holiday scent, as well. Yet another of the RPG blends I am impressed with.

    Snake Oil

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this one. I had always thought I was in the small minority of those who can't wear snake oil. I'd tried it aged, new, different years, etc, and it always went bitter medicine on my skin. For no reason I ordered a bottle with this years halloweenies, and guess what- it's awesome! Wtf? Soft, spicy vanilla. More cozy than sexy - safe enough for the office, but sultry enough for evening wear. It seems to have "moods" on me- it can amp spices and patchouli- I swear there's patchouli in this- or it goes quiet and subtle. Very strange. If it doesn't work for you the first time, keep trying.
