    Eat Me

This is sooo yummy. I get a warm, vanilla-ey cake scent, with just the right amount frosting. It's just the right amount of sweetness for everyday wear - it's sweet enough to wear out and about, but not too sticky sweet to wear everywhere. I might just have to get a 5ml of this one.

    Grand Guignol

I got this as a frimp with my last order. For whatever reason, I hadn't noticed this on the site before, and I'm usually all over everything foodie. In the imp, it was brandy and apricots. Which I guess would be apricot brandy. Wet, it's very strong (but very yummy) apricot brandy. It's dried down and stayed very pure. This is such a nice but flirty scent. Definitely a keeper.

    Traveling with BPAL

Well, my lip gloss made it through the security checkpoint, but only because my purse appears to have eaten it. I told the guy searching my bag that there was one, but he couldn't find it and I still can't find it. The security people were listing cosmetics of all types as things you couldn't pack, so I wouldn't even try the solid perfume, but I don't think they'd mind the scentpads, as long as you didn't wear the locket through the metal detector. edits: And my bpal imps, which were carefully bubble wrapped in a mint tin, were untouched in my checked bag.

    Traveling with BPAL

This is the thread I was looking for earlier. Oops. Anyways, the only thing I'm packing in my carry-on that's considered a toiletry is a mostly empty lip gloss. If they make me chuck it at security, I'll do it.. but I don't want to possibly throw anything else out (although I'll be staying at a hotel on a military base in Seoul, so if my luggage gets lost I can pick up stuff on base). As far as solid perfumes and deodorant and such being confiscated, a lot of it is at the disgression of the indivial TSA person searching your luggage.. so I might be able to bring deodorant, but not you. Seeing as how I'm flying out of a NYC-area airport.. I think the lipgloss may push the limits of what's allowed. Also, I'm not packing LE anything, even in my checked bag, just in case someone decides it a risk and chucks it.. If they're GC imps they're a hell of a lot easier (and cheaper) to replace. You might be able to bring the scent pads, but I wouldn't try the imp jewelry. Even if it gets past security, you might get busted by the nosy dude sitting next to you on your flight. Wow, that was fragmented. Back to packing I go.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

This is a slightly different question (but this is the best place I could think of to stick it). Both a friend and I have bottle of Chaos Theory III with "cinnamon" notes. While we both realize that in the description Beth said there'd be no cinnamon, we can't figure out what else it could possibly be. Any thoughts are welcome. eta: Now I'm extra curious, as about 15 minutes after putting some on today I broke out in a bright red rash everywhere the oil touched my skin, and it lasted for about four or so hours. I've tried one or two other things with cinnamon and a couple with cassia, and never had that reaction to them.

    Delight

Let me start by saying that florals and I do not generally get along. Delight (which I put on without reading the description) is no exception. In the bottle, it was all florals. No sour note. Wet, it was overwhelming florals (mixed with mustard, but I'm guessing that's just my skin protesting), and if I wasn't late for work I'd have washed it off. Within an hour it was gone. Can't say I miss it much.

    Pumpkin Patch II (2005, 2006)

I got my Pumpkin Patch set from the lab last November, and I still haven't tried them all. *smacks hand* bad me In the bottle, it's a warm, rich pumpkin with cocoa on the side. I can smell the nuttiness, but I can't differentiate between them. Wet, the pumpkin warms up, but so does the cocoa, making the scent warm and inviting without being overpowering. It dries to a warm but soft scent, and the nuts appear a lil more. After 7 or so hours, the pumpkin is mostly gone, but there's still a dusty chocolate nuttiness left. It's a very warm, pretty scent.

    Hungry Ghost Moon 2006

It is that time of the month, so I will retest this in a week or so. In the bottle, this is super fruity. Wet, it's very sweet, and very grapefruity. Like the grapefruit frolicked in the sugar first. As it dries, the grapefruit calms into a bright, sparkly, more generic fruitiness, with green undertones. I don't get any of the vanilla, ginger, or sandalwood, and after a couple hours I have to shove my nose down my cleavage to get a whiff of any residual scent. It's a wonderfully foody scent, but I wish it had more throw and more staying power. edit - a week or so later - Similar in scent as before, but lasted much much longer. Yay! And for funsies, I had my sister put some on, and she's amping up bubblegum. lol

    Nuclear Winter

Annihilation. The ice, desolation and barrenness of nuclear devastation shot through by a beam of radioactive mints. In the bottle, this is a cool mint in icy waters. Once on my, my skin amps up the mint (no problems there ), but it's grounded by the scent of ice and the frozen ground, which prevents me from attracting all the cats in a 1/2 mile radius to my wrists. This is a wonderful summer scent for me. It actually makes me feel cooler when I wear it, which is no small feat in the hazy, humid, hot days of NJ summers. It's also good for the days when I want to be minty, but don't want the "Eat Me!!!"-ness of Lick It.

    Pink Phoenix

This is a fruity, sweet but not sticky, funloving, girlie girl scent. It stays true on me from wet to dry, and makes me feel pretty and girlie. I wore this on my wedding day last April, partially because of how pretty it is on me, and partially because it was one of the least embarrasing named bpal oils I had at that time. There's a couple of scents I would have considered wearing (such as Blood Kiss) but didn't want to fess up to the names if someone asked me what I was wearing scent-wise. I don't rate scents, but this one is in my regular rotation of scents due to it's yumminess.

    Chaos Theory III: Strange Attractors

CCXLVII (247, I think) First sniff: Cool, refreshing, mint! With a lil bit of eucalyptus, maybe? Wet, on me: Very minty, with hints of other things that are on the tip of my tongue (nose?). I almost want to say cinnamon, but I know that's not it. I'm trying to narrow down the mints, and I'm definitely picking up the mint from Lick It (peppermint, I think), but I'm also getting some hints of spearmint, and possibly of wintergreen. This blend will take a spot of honor next to Lick it and Nuclear Winter. It's such a perfect minty blend for me! Edit: The more I sniff and wear this, the more I'm convinced that this smells exactly like some sort of minty candy I have at one point (actually, probably a lot more than once) consumed. Getting less of the eucalyptus, too. Edit again, several days later: It smells the same.. but it makes my skin turn into huge red itchy blotchy spots where ever the oil touches me. The itchiness goes away and the blotches fade after a couple hours.. but don't know if I want to hazard it again. and it smelled so good!! *sob* DCXXXVII (637) - originally reviewed here: In the bottle, it's a creamy, somewhat nutty scent, with some vanilla I think. Wet on me, I can smell the hazelnuts, and the bland creamy note I get from Snake Oil and Sudha Segara (or however it's spelled). At least instead of the bland creamy nothingness (which does have a scent, sorta), there's some hazelnut - but the jury's still out on whether this one's a keeper.

    Two Monsters

I woke up with a very light wheeze today. Did I take a puff of my inhaler? No! I put on some BPAL with vetiver! I'm not the best at picking up notes (in this blend, the only two things I am sure of are the vetiver and the patchouli). I didn't jot down any notes this morning while it was wet, but I remember it being earthy and floral - but not too floral, and a bit sweet. As it dried (and sporadically throughout the day) I'd get little whiffs of soap, but overall this is a wonderfully dark earth scent with floral overtones (and no florals that totally killed me). It's almost like Malediction's younger, more relaxed and playful sister. Whiffs of soap aside (my time of the month is very soon, so I'll happily try this again in a couple weeks), this is a wonderful scent on me. Usually florals go over the top flowerpower on me, or remind me too much of the flower case at work, but this is just right on me. I think I've finally found a floral scent that I can wear.

    Temperature and BPAL

I have a headache, so I'm not in the mood to search out the thread (assuming it was here and not in one of the bpal lj's), but I thought someone here had said that the oils could separate or go funky in the fridge. I have known people to put theirs in the fridge when they were going to be away to no ill effect. I vote for a closet shelf or in a drawer somewhere.

    Monster Bait: Underbed

In the bottle, it is a spicy chocolatey scent. Wet on me, it's pretty much all cassia, with a wee hint of distant chocolate, and something almost boozy. Unfortunately for me, cassia in large quantities makes me nauseated. Especially if my hands were anywhere near my face. After reading some of the other reviews here, I decided to let it sit for awhile to see if the cassia died down. It was in my face making me nausious for 4 hours or so, and apparently set off the allergies of just about all my coworkers. It also did something strange (and rather unpleasant) whenever I walked into the back of the floral case. As I work in the cashier/floral department of a garden store, there are some days where I spend more time in the case pulling flowers and greens and whatnot, so something that goes funky in the cold is not so good. At that four hour point, the cassia faded and I was left with a yummy chocolate and coconut cake with a wee bit of spice (cassia in small quantities is good, too much=baaaad). But when I factor in the four hours of cassia hell and the funky cold air smells, I'd rather just wear Beaver Moon or 13 or even Blood Kiss. ETA: This smells divine on my younger sister. Oh, the wonders of skin chemistry.

    Masquerade

Of the four notes in the description, I've only had one (that I know of) in other blends, so I won't be identifiying too many notes. In the imp, it's a deep, earthy, spicey scent. With a side of soap and sinus headache. Wet, it's spicy soap with some patchouli mixed in. As it dries, it's an earthy, slightly spiced scent, with strong floral undertones. Something soapy is still there, tho, and the floral end of things is making my sinuses unhappy. I may give this one another wear in a couple months, but I'm thinking that this one's aimd to the swap pile. While I am sure that there is a floral BPAL blend that will work on me, this one is not it. For now, I shall stick with my foody scents.

    White Light

Florals, White Light being no exception, do not smell their best on me. They either get way overpowering, or they get soapy and/or powdery. In the case of White Light, it got soapy. I don't care. I had a crappy day at work Monday, with most all my co-workers being cranky/bitchy/moody and not telling me why. So I lowered my shielding some (I'm empathic, so I usually have some sort of shield up to reflect negative energy) and picked up loads of very chaotic and upset and distracting energy.. energy I couldn't shake no matter how much I grounded myself. Later, I took a long hot shower, and afterwards used White Light for the first time. Along with clearing out all that extra energy, it also cleared out all the negative thoughts I'd been having, about everything from my coworkers to my cats to myself. I am in awe that Beth can put something so wonderful and healing and helpful in a bottle.

    Absinthe

I've never smelled or tried Absinthe, so I don't know if this comes close to the real thing scent wise. I ordered it because I love how mint, cardamom, anise, and lemons/citrus smell. In the imp, it was a not too sweet, not too bitter, and not too much like plants. On me, however.. I don't know what it did. I got no mint, cardamom, anise, lemon.. or anything else I could pick out. I just smelled like a slightly muddy green plant of some sort. At least it didn't hang around too long on my skin though.. I don't think it lasted more than an hour or two before I couldn't smell it anymore. I am just a bit jealous of everyone this smells good on tho.

    Storm Moon

I received a freebie decant of this with a bottle I won on ebay. Until now, I've never tried any aquatic scents, so I had no expectations or ideas on how it would smell on me. In the bottle, I got lots of ozone and not much else. Wet on me, it smelled like the beach does the morning after a big thunderstorm moves up the coast, the sharp, but fresh and clean salty sea air and the smell of rain dampened sand. Very different from what I usually wear, but very interesting. Sadly, an hour after putting this on, it was completely gone. Guess my skin liked it too much. But! This scent has definitely moved the aquatics on my wishlist up to the front, so I can try out more (and more easily aquired) aquatic and ozone-y scents.

    Pumpkin Patch I (2005, 2006)

I received my order of the Pumpkin Patch and received them from the Lab in November, and I'm only now trying them on. Heh. In the bottle, there's a buttery pumpkin smell, like a piece of buttered, fresh from the oven pumpkin bread, with a some of the apples and spices peeking through. Wet and through drydown, the apples perk up, making it smell like my kitchen does when a pumpkin pie is cooling next to the oven and there's mulled cider brewing in the crock pot. It's some of the best scents of fall and early winter, all in one bottle.

    Malediction

This was a frimp, which was excellent, because this is soo not a scent I would have ever picked out. In the bottle, well, I don't know know how to describe how it came across to me. Wet, it was the smell of burning wood, not the logs that you'd buy bundled up, but logs that you'd find scattered around a forest from all types of trees. And more than a bit of lighter fluid to get the whole thing going. After it was on for a little while, the lighter fluid scent vanished and it changed into a warmer, softer, burning wood scent. It's a bit strong for my tastes, but I think it'll be part of my first foray into diluting because this is a great scent for when I don't want to wear my usual foodie scents (because sometimes your intended effect is something other than "Eat me! I smell yummy!"). I won't be getting a big bottle of this one.. but I think I'll always have an imp of this around.

    Ephemera

My first impression was that this was a sharper floral than some of the other florals I've sniffed. Wet on me.. the violet goes off into it's usual soapy/baby powder tantrum that makes the scent turn into floral handsoap. This smells strikingly like Numb did on me, and I think it's the violet not playing nicely with the others. But at least I'm learning which notes I should avoid, so this was a good imp to try.

    O

In the bottle, it's a sassy and sexy honey vanilla. Unfortunately, the second it hits my skin it's all playdough. Playdough with lots of throw. Blasted honey.
  23. crazyredhead17

    Skuld

Ylang ylang, honey, Egyptian and Arabian musks and labdanum. I couldn't find the description of this one while the forum was down, and now that I see that this scent has honey, which I'm learning is a less-than-good note on me. Sadness. My little review notes before I saw the scent description. I'm no good at telling apart notes, but to me it smelled florally but with a sweetness to it. On me the floral amped up for a few minutes, then the sweetness came out. Alas, the whole scent lingered for about 15 mintues before it was barely noticable. Also, an hour after putting it on, when I stick my nose to my wrist, I get florals and cigarette smoke. And a sinus headache (caused by the ylang-ylang I'm sure.. jasmine and things like jasmine absolutely kill my sinuses). But at least there was no playdough note, as there was with the other two scents I tried with honey in them. So that's good.

    Dragon's Milk

In the bottle, it's a yummy cherry with vanilla and honey. Wet on me - cherry cough syrup. After 5 minutes, it morphs into a wonderful honey and vanilla with a lil bit of cherry. Unfortunately, that only lasts for about ten minutes, when it shifts into a tragic toddler mishap of cherry cough syrup mixed with playdough. Not something I'll wear again. I just wish that wonderful phase lasted longer. ADDED June 10: I tried this while the forums were down, and only found the text file today. Dragon's Milk In the bottle, it's a yummy cherry with vanilla and honey. Wet on me - cherry cough syrup After 5 minutes, it morphs into a wonderful honey and vanilla with a lil bit of cherry. Unfortunately, that only lasts for about ten minutes, when it shifts into cherry cough syrup crossed with playdough. Needless to say, this one was sent to the swap pile.

    Vice

After Gluttony going sticky-sweet on me, I'd been avoiding the chocolate scents. So when I opened this imp and it smelled like dark chocolate with a hint of cherry, I was worried. On me, from wet through several hours of drydown, it smelled like cordial cherries. Now.. I hate cordial cherries. I hate how they taste, how they smell... but I love how Vice smells on me. Go figure. I am going to have to get a big bottle of this one, I think.
