    Yggdrasil

Ok, so I think I totally missed something with this one. It smells like minty musky MOUTHWASH on me. WTF, skin? I don't understand it, but I sure don't like it...bummer, the description is amazing. Swap pile.

    Whitechapel

I got an imp of this from a forum member sale and its not what I expected at all. I'm not a big citrus fan, but it immediately reminded me of lemon candy. On the skin, once it dries, I get light musk and lemon. Kinda reminds me of Pledge, which is definitely not my thing. Nope.

    Umbra

Like Omen, I got a dirty patchouli scent from this in the bottle. On the skin, this was unfortunate. Dirty patchouli and musk. My husband left the room and I went to scrub it off. Nope to this one...

    Omen

In the imp this smells like dirty patchouli to me. Not my thing, but I wanted to make sure. On the skin it turned sweeter but still with a "dirty" quality. Spicy and musky. Dry down is nice, but not for me. Swap pile.

    On Darkness

Wow, this one is really beautiful. In the bottle it smells pretty good, but nothing like what it comes to on the skin. It's hard to figure out what this reminds me of, but it has a complex fruity floral sweetness that is very unique and certainly different than other bpals I've tried so far. It seems like an appropriate "holiday" scent without being too festive. It definitely evokes colder weather for me and I cannot imagine wearing it in warmer seasons due to the sweetness, although it isn't too heavy. I think this is nice but I haven't decided if this is one I would wear often enough to hang on to.

    Blood Lotus

I don't understand this...Folks are really seeming to be loving on Blood Lotus, but all I'm getting is icky cherry flavored cough syrup. I really thought I would like this one, but I don't think I can bear to try it again. Unfortunately wretched on me. Swap pile for this one...

    Ivanushka

Ok Everyone, I have an important announcement to make... IVANUSHKA MIGHT BE MY HOLY GRAIL. From the description, I had a feeling this one might be for me. I'm still very new at this, but I am also ok with taking risks, so I was able to get a hold of a sizable amount from forum members (you know who you are! ) My husband also said it smelled like dill pickles. I will admit that upon first application I only let it sit a few minutes and then washed it off in favor of Ashlultum. But this morning I tried it again and...WOW. I don't know if I would say it smells like fur necessarily, but the smell is very sweet without being cloying and does definitely remind me of a sort of animalian scent in a way. This one is full of surprises on me because, at first, after a few moments, it goes powdery. But after a while the powder disappears and comes to a soft, sweet, musky, almost faintly nutty smell that is extremely comforting and pleasant. I applied again in the afternoon since oils seem to fade on me quickly and this one is still going fairly well and it is more than 12 hours after I initially applied. Agh, of course this one has to be a LE. But, fortunately for me, there are many nice folks on this forum who aren't as happy with their bottle of Ivanushka as I have been. Amazing!

    Ashlultum

oh-emm-gee... OK. So I am completely overwhelmed right now by all of the bpal I have to try (I know, a HORRIBLE DILEMMA, POOR ME!!! ) But after trying 3 others so far...I had big hopes for Ashlultum, and I am pleased to report that this one is the best I've tried yet. I'm not usually into florals (except rose always gets me! I love it!) so I was a bit apprehensive after reading that a lot of people got overpowering lilac from this one. And yes, it does have a lot of flower going on, but, to me at least, I'm not overpowered or bothered by it. I thought I didn't like lilac after trying Veil, but I guess it was something else that didn't agree with me in that one. At first, Ashlultum was really flowery on me, but didn't turn to baby powder...and now its settling into a nice light floral kinda of musky smell that is quite lovely. As a bpal newbie I had no idea what to expect from this one, but it is extremely beautiful. Even if you, like me, think florals are yucky, I suggest giving Ashlultum a try. ETA: I think what this reminds me of is my beloved grandmother. I can't pinpoint exactly why, as she was not a heavy perfume wearer that I can recall (although she did have many beautiful bottles on her vanity) but there's something about it that is really hitting me with the olfactory memory stuff...hm. Either way, I like it!

    Scherezade

A master storyteller who possessed unfailing courage and compassion, a sharp, quick wit, and a true understanding of human nature. Saffron and Middle Eastern spices swirled through sensual red musk. I really love nag champa and that is certainly a big part of what I get from this one in the vial. I used a little for the wrist swipe test and it starts out as smoky, musky, nag champa and quickly fades to something kind of powdery, but not babypowder (thankfully). I can still smell the nag champa and the spicy musky smell, but thus far many of the bpals I have tried have not lasted long on me. I am pretty conservative when it comes to applying them, though, so perhaps I just need to be a bit more daring. I'll put on a bit more and see how it goes, but I really like this one so far! ---- ETA: I went for it and tried a bit more before I left for work. While the scent has faded considerably in the past few hours, it is still a faint pleasant powdery musk that is quite nice! I think I'll hang on to this one for now...

    Ouija

Well, looks like I'm 0-2 today after my unfortunate foray with Veil this morning... In the vial this smells like cigarette smoke. It reminds me of this polinaise room here that reeks bigtime of old cigarette smoke eventhough Minneapolis has been smoke free for years. I put a small swipe on my wrist for the test and immediately got cigarette smoke and....mint? Is that osmanthus? Anyway, not good. This quickly went away and in the time it took for me to take the dog out, everything faded to floral babypowder and then, nothing. Bummer.

    Veil

Dear Veil, When I said you could stay the night I had no intention of trying you out so soon. This morning, though I was a bit offended by your strong approach straight off, I decided to give you a shot. As a BPAL virgin, I always thought I would save myself for THE ONE, but these things often don't go as planned. I had a hard time knowing what to do at first. I wanted to take it slow, but clearly that was not on your agenda. At one point, while you weren't looking I had to take a few puffs of my inhaler. You were very sweet, which may be nice for some, but I found it a bit nauseating. After a while you lightened up and became bearable, but it just seems like you've got some stuff going on that I'm not that eager to deal with. You remind me of a flower shop I used to work at, but much more overpowering. It's hard for me to pick out exactly what it is about you that isn't working, but instead of finding you mysterious, I just found you cloying and upfront. So Veil, while I appreciate the experience, I just know there will be someone out there who is willing and able to give you the love and appreciation you deserve. Trust me, Veil, it's not you...It's me.
