    Marquise de Merteuil

The Marquise is one haughty b*tch for sure! This is beautiful, but diabolically so. It's the headiest BPAL I've tried thus far, the throw is REALLY strong, and I barely swiped the imp's wand across my wrist! On wet: Peaches, peaches, peaches. Agree with the poster who said it smells like the throw a peach gives that draws one to consume it. This is a very very ripe peach, perhaps already over the edge to rotten. Drying down: The peach is still the predominant player, but the jonquils are casting a glare of superiority in my direction and hitting me in the back of the throat with their sharp bite. Still no sign of the vetiver and the amber's still afraid to assert itself. Don't know enough about galbanum to comment on that one yet. Dry: More or less the same. Close to the wrist it's got this ozone note and everything is melded nicely together, but that peachy throw is still going very strong and I kind of need it to have calmed down a bit. It'll probably be awesome in an hour, but that's too long to wait for one's perfume not to knock people over, n'est-ce pas? So in the future, I'll keep this in mind and wear it when I need to feel cruel, French, and opulent-- now where is my powdered wig?

    Golden Priapus

Fascinating! Just got this imp in the mail and as soon as I sniffed it I was gung ho for a skin test. On me, it's a lot of pine, but in a soft, woodsy kind of way, not a household cleaner way. The vanilla and amber are slinking around like a soft fog through the trees, slightly elusive, but coyly making their presence known. I wish I were one of those who truly amp vanilla-- it seems I always want a bit more of it to shine through in the blends that have it. (I'm looking at you Black Lace and Black Heart.) I find this a refreshing, sexy scent and am definitely curious what it would smell like on the man. So far he's only gone in for the BPAL's that give off a smoky vibe (vetiver), but I have plans for him.... mwahhahhaha!

    10ml bottles...Where did they go?

I'm contemplating ordering a 10ml of Snake Oil, but can't find info here or on BPAL's site as to how much they are! Can you get a 10ml of an LE scent or just the GC? Curious mind wants to know!

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

So I tried Black Lace today and it's not really working out for me. Too much tobacco, not enough vanilla. But I love the vanilla note in this blend. Any suggestions on other scents that have this note and maybe aren't too complex? I'm looking for something where this note is the featured player. I tend to like scents on the girly side it seems, and some of the sexpot variety. Not too much fruit or herbs and lowkey on the incense and spice.

    Black Death

Color me disappointed. With so many positive reviews I eagerly awaited my decant. Immediately after applying I was feeling very concerned about how this scent would play out. Super dark, tobacco and patchouli (I think) amping like whoa. I just smell weird and artificial, like a funky candle shop. I gave it an hour or two to see if it would develop into anything more pleasant, but alas. This really was the first BPAL I tried which made me feel compelled to wash it off ASAP. Off to potential swap pile.

    Libra 2007

Rose, black cherry, carnation, fig, honey, plum, and black currant. I'm a Libra and proud of it. So when I saw this blend, I was bound to try it whether I really liked the notes or not. Lucky for me, I love rose. Love it love it love it. It just seems to lift my mood. Wet, I get strong cherry backed by rose and carnation, but that's short-lived. Within a few minutes, rose steps into the spotlight and that's all she wrote. I'm sure the other notes add a depth that I'm not educated enough to easily discern, but this is rose's show and they're just stage dressing. All in all, a winner for me, as I smile whenever I put it on. I hate that it's an LE, because now I'll either have to track down a rose blend I love the same way, or try and find another bottle for backup. Le sigh.

    Prurience

An unwholesome scent. A craving, an itch. This scent smoulders with a lust that singes the edge of your nerves and leaves your soul chilled: red amber and scorched musk with voluptuous carnation, charred vetiver, sensuous tonka, and orris. The lab must have been on a vetiver and woods kick; with my last order I was frimped Prurience, Little Wooden Doll and Rumplestilzchen. I thought I liked vetiver, but Prurience in the vial was overpoweringly black and charred to me. Nasty, and definitely unwholesome. That's not something I care to smell like (well, not usually). Nonetheless, armed with some positive reviews here, I finally sucked it up and skin tested it today as I didn't have anywhere important to be. On wet, there's a short phase of ewww.... bonfire/charcoal briquets. Not looking good. But it calms down after twenty minutes or so, and then sweetness of the tonka and orris and the spice of carnation (I think) emerge. What the what? I got none of these in the vial, but I'm glad they showed up and the vetiver decided to chill out. In terms of wear: it's hours later and the scent's still going strong on my wrists, but the throw has been minimal throughout. Overall, I doubt I'd go for a bottle of this, but I might keep the imp around and see how that vetiver ages. It's an interesting change of pace, that's for sure.

    Has No Hanna

Scratch n' sniff pickles!! That's what I got from Has No Hanna. At first it made me laugh, since it felt like such a silly smell, so I guess it lightened my mood. Then I went out into the world, and though I admit still feeling relatively at ease, I couldn't help but wonder if people would smell me and wonder, what in the world-- why does she smell like scratch n' sniff pickles????? It seemed to have throw like whoa, though no one mentioned it. Politeness? Ignorance? Unsure. Also not sure what is in there combining with the strong gardenia smell to create this craziness on me, but altogether it was weird and surprisingly long-lasting. The first oil I really was glad to wash off. I'd try it again, but at an even smaller dose, and maybe not on any pulse points. See if that makes a difference, as I'm curious to see if I'll notice positive effects when I'm not busy noticing how weird I smell.

    Nocturne

Hey, it's my first review! I've developed some serious sleep problems over the last year or so, from waking up during the night to just flat out bouts of insomnia. Used to sleep like a rock, through just about anything. When I heard so many successful reviews of Nocturne, I knew I needed to get my hands on it. It's a good thing I happen to like roses-- what Libra doesn't-- 'cuz they amp like crazy on me. So after anointing myself before bed last night I was immediately enveloped in huge heavy roses backed with a hint of lavender and maybe a touch of something else-- it was hard to smell underneath the aforementioned giant pile of roses. I decided to read for a few minutes, and shortly I noticed the book feeling heavy in my hands. I was determined to finish the chapter, so I did, then turned out the lights and prepared to sleep. Within probably ten minutes I was out, I don't remember falling asleep, so I know it must have just whomped me over the head. Fine by me! I slept uninterrupted for a good 8 or 9 hours. Yay! Immediate love for Nocturne. I will add that I have also had good results with the couple of times I've tried Water of Notre Dame, but it doesn't seem to be quite so deep a sleep. So if you're reading this and you need more sleep, unless you really hate roses, go get some!
