  1. This is lovely! I understand the comparisons to Snow White as they both have a similar feel. There's a bright, fresh rose on top of a frosty vanillic creaminess.

This is wonderful!! This isn't like anything I have in my wheelhouse perfume wise or bath product wise and so will get a lot of use.

  2. Initially this is a little cloying and very floral, not just rose to my nose but general floral. Honestly I was definitely a little frightened at first.

However, my fears were unfounded. This is definitely still a rose scent, but it's a beautiful rose, softened and sweetened by the amber. I can pick up the woods in the background, but I feel like they are there to ground the scent.

This is a little chilly feeling, but not super cold, definitely less cold feeling than ice princess. The bergamot mingles with the rose making this feel very refined and almost haughty. It's a regal scent. It is like nothing I already own, but I seriously love it! I can see this getting a lot of use during the spring time.

I use this as a post bath/shower moisturizer like all of my bath oils. This soaks in quickly and leaves a scent for at least a day. They save my dry, scaley, winter skin.

  3. Iced blackberries, blackcurrant honey, frozen white peach, and sweet vanilla cream.

I think this would appeal to those who like commercial perfumes. That isn't to say that it smells like a commercial blend but something about the frozen sharpness is reminiscent of that type of perfume. This is so much better though.

It's fruity and berry like at first with a huge hit of frozen peach. It's not a fresh juicy peach but more like an icy Bellini scent. As it dries down that near floral feel I'm getting from the blend mellows and it sweetens up a little. The vanilla emerges and blends with the berries to create a lovely chilly, soft scent.

I'm loving this and as usual using it as a post shower moisturizer is fantastic. It soaks in quickly and feels AMAZiNG! Yay for non scaly skin!

ETA: The next morning it is musky, sweet and just absolutely gorgeous and still strongly scented.

  4. I love this! As usual the formula is fantastic! It soaks in nicely, moisturizes beautiful and leaves a lovely scent behind.

I was a little apprehensive about this oil as I was worried that I would encounter the #OWS patch, but it was no where to be found. It's definitely a patch heavy scent, as to be expected, but it's lovely woody patch combination which with the addition of the clove creates a lovely warmth and comfort in the scent.

  5. OM NOM NOM NOM!!!!!

Seriously! This is absolutely delectable. I usually like my sweeter/foodie scents tempered with something else darkish (like leather, patch or incense) however this is glorious.

In the bottle and immediately on the skin it's very chocolate and hazelnut heavy.

However this changes every quickly and settles down to a fairly fig heavy scent. It's sweet and the fig reads almost floral on the skin in combination with the pine. In the background there's still some hazelnut, coffee and chocolate.

It's gorgeous! The half bottle that I purchased will in no way be enough to satiate my new found love of this. It's not as heavy as many of the other bath oils (scent wise) which is perfect for me as the throw on those can sometimes be overwhelming when going out in public.

I love this and know that it will become a regular in my rotation of lotions/oils and moisturizers.

  6. OMG this is absolutely beautiful!

This is definitely predominately amber-like - very reminiscent of the Lion which I enjoyed. However instead of being an amber SN like the Lion ended up being on my skin this blooms into a sweet, slightly musky, slightly spicy work of art. The labdanum and oudh do there wonderful slight incense-y thing on my skin to give the scent that edge of spice and incense. They support the amber and together make the most beautiful scent. It really feels like a piece of music - amber is the melody (probably a piano or a violin in most music pieces) and the labdanum and oudh serve as integral deeper instruments like percussion and cellos. It's absolutely gorgeous!

  7. Red musk, myrrh, peru balsam, Chinese geranium, and tobacco absolute.

In the bottle: WOAH! Red musk!!! Smells like a red musk single note in the bottle.

On: it's definitely still a red musk heavy scent. It's drier and less sweet than Smut and less spicy than Scheherazade. It's got an almost slightly floral feel without screaming FLOWERS which I think is what I'm interpreting the Chinese geranium as. The myrrh is pretty strong as well as it lends a slight incensey feel and the dryness I was picking up earlier. Eventually I pick up the tobacco which is one of my favourite notes. It's smoky and musky but still decidedly feminine.

I really enjoy this in theory - It's a lovely scent and really well blended. Unfortunately the red musk tends to amp on me so I don't think this is a work scent as it's a little heavy and has a pretty strong throw. It's not a bad scent by any means just a little much for me. This is a heavy, sexy scent, without the same amount of raunch I got from Smut.

  8. First sniff: Uh oh! This smells like sharp honey and since my skin destroys honey into a powdery disaster I was nervous. It was musky, sweet and slightly sharp.

Later on it morphs into the most lovely musk - definitely sexy. The honey is still there but doesn't turn to powder or disaster.

Formula wise it was wonderful just like all the other hair glosses I've tried. A couple of squirts on dry or damp hair and the scent stays for hours (if not days) and makes my hair shiny but not weighed down and helps to keep away any tangles on my BSL hair.

ETA: the scent doesn't last as long as Snake Oil (that lasts days - sometimes even through washes) but does last around 24 hours or so with only one squirt. By that time the honey has really mellowed out and I'm left with a sweet musk. It's not really a raunchy post orgy scent, but certainly mysterious and sexy.

  9. As usual I'm thwarted by the honey in this blend :( Honey and my skin just don't get along - things with honey smell lovely in the bottle, but then on my skin amp to cloyingly sweet proportions and overwhelm just about any other note in a blend. Due to that fact about my skin chemistry please take this review with a huge grain of salt if honey behaves on your skin.

This had the potential to be soooooo lovely on my skin. I love linen scents, tea scents, ginger, pepper and I have no problem with milk or cream scents usually. However, the instant this hits my skin the honey explodes and takes over absolutely everything! Well not everything, I think I can pick up some ginger but really this is a super cloying honey SN on my skin, I may be able to rock it in a scent locket. I will try to remember to update when I test it out.

  10. This is such a BEAUTIFUL scent. It's a nice earthy, grounded leather. It's not a sharp new one, but rather something that's well worn and lived in. It's definitely spicier and less powdery on me than A Bachelor's Dog, but I would guess that this has a healthy dash of tobacco in it as well as the leather and smattering of spice. It's sweet ish, but it feels like that sweetness may come from a musk rather than vanilla.

This is what I thought Haute Macabre would smell like on me (minus patchouli in this). Seriously, this is sooooo lovely! :wub2:

  11. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO TRY THIS?????? I love David Bowie, I love Labyrinth and I love Dorian and leather -WTF was I thinking? I know I was worried about the lilac, but no need to fear, this is beautiful.

In the bottle: I totally understand the Dorian's big brother comparisons. I get mostly the floral boquet, but it's definitely not lilac-y it almost feels lavender like. There's a little sweetness here as well as musk and leather. Swoon.

Wet: It's the same as in the bottle. The leather begins to emerge a bit along with the musk. Tonka normally does really weird things on my skin, but thankfully is behaving just like vanilla.

Dry down: This is gorgeous. It's what I wanted Crowley to be on my skin. It's a little sweet, musky and leathery with a hint of men's cologne almost like 'his' scent rubbed off and mingled with my perfume. It makes me feel a little naughty in the best way and adds a little sass to my attitude. It's beautiful. Don't fear the lilac (or the tonka if it usually smells terrible on you).

  12. I LOVE THIS!!! Seriously. I hate lilies - they often give me headaches and make me sneeze, but the lily is no where to be found past the first minute or so and was never strong enough to agravate me so YAY!!!! :joy:

In the bottle: Almost a plastic-y type vanilla, some floral - it doesn't smell very promising, but I knew I needed to test it.

Wet: It instantly starts to warm up on the skin and lose the plastic feeling. It starts to remind me of the vanilla in Morocco - that warm almost spicy vanilla. I could swear that I'm getting some spice out of this even though it's not listed.

Dry Down: The vanilla and amber continue to warm up and border on foody. However, this isn't cloying like true gourmand scents can read to my nose. It's a cozy and warm scent that reminds me of the feeling of sun on your skin in the late spring, where it's not hot all the time yet but the sun warms you up nicely. I don't identify anything as aquatic or floral, but based on my experiences with ambergris in the past I think it is providing that nice back note that is preventing the vanilla and amber from becoming out of control on my skin. *note my skin likes sweet notes and has a tendency to make purely gourmand scents become out of control so I usually like my sweet notes mixed with other things to calm them down.

This could easily become a daily scent. It's very inoffensive and I think very pleasant. It's much lighter, in feel, to my other favourites and provides a little reprieve from some of my overly sexual scents. This feels like my personality is naturally - it's a little flirty, comes across as innocent but isn't completely there, as there's a knowledge of something a little more that what is shown. Many of my other scents like Snake Oil, Perversion and Red Lantern scream sexy and sensual to me, which I love especially considering how they add to my confidence, but this just fits me, as I am.

I'm so pleasantly surprised by this scent. It may have just rocketed up the list and may easily become one of my most worn scents.

  13. In the bottle: This is sweet, much sweeter than I expected initially from the note list. The red licorice is at the forefront with some rose in the background and just a little bit of incense (mostly frankincense to my nose, the champaca is nowhere to be found in the bottle).

Wet: The rose blooms almost instantly and takes over everything. It smells like a dirty rose, which I'm guessing is the frankincense. It's different, but I like it.

Dry down: The rose stays strong and almost overpowering for a while but eventually is rustled into submission by the frankincense and champaca aspects of the scent. The vanilla and licorice soften things a bit and I think help to tame the rose. Somehow the rose starts to change and smell off in some way with my chemistry, almost rotting for lack of a better term. Thankfully this stage doesn't last very long or else it would have been instantly shipped off to the swap box. I'm really intrigued by the dry down once the rose settles. There's a stronger presence of the incense and the vanilla is more present with a nice rose in the background. I'm not sure it feels 'me' but I can't deny that it's a beautiful scent.

ETA: Nevermind :( That weird rose scent reappeared about 30mins later :( that combined with a frankincense note that went overly powdery and dirty I don't think this is a scent for me. I'll re-test it once it's had a chance to settle and update if anything changes, but if not it's off to the swap box.

This is sad because it's a beautiful scent, with beautiful notes, it's just my skin chemistry that doesn't really play well with frankincense and combined with the rose it just turns 'off' on my skin.

ETA2: I just retested this today and it's much better. It's still a fairly powdery scent, but I think that is just the nature of frankincense and rose with me. It's quite a beautiful scent and now smells good on me. However, I'm still not sure it fits 'me' - it feels a little too refined and proper to be me. Almost as though it is a little too chilly and impersonal for it to fit with my personality. Perhaps layered with a spicy warm scent I might change my mind.

  14. 2013 Version:

I've never tried any other version of this so this is a blind review.

In the bottle: It's sharp and sweet almost lime like and there's definitely some rose hiding there in the background.

Wet: It's lighter than I expected. I suppose I thought it would be a little more incense heavy, but it's definitely not. Smells much like the bottle in this stage although the rose isn't very rose-y any more, it's more generic flower at this point.

Dry Down: Finally the tobacco and spices start to emerge about 10-15mins after application. It loses the sharp sweetness it had initially and warms up to become the most lovely spicy, smoky, rose. I'm very pleased with this in this stage. I was worried as it was a little sharp in the wet stages and almost cloyingly sweet but my skin loves tobacco and the warmth it brings to a scent. Thankfully the tobacco did not fail me so it makes a lovely addition to my collection. It's a rose that I love because it is spicy and complex - a little floral and sweet but with an unexpected kick.

  15. Oh this is beautiful and unlike anything else I have in my collection.

First of all, I love the smell of leaves so I hoped that I would love this scent. I also have a deep love of Anne of Green Gables (I connected to her so much as a child) that even if I didn't like the notes I thought I might have to purchase it. Thankfully it's a beautiful and evocative scent.

In the bottle: It's all leaves, sharp, green and very vegetal. It's definitely more tree like than Summer Summoning Spectacular and fresher smelling than Autumn Lace.

Wet: It's still definately a 'green' scent, but it doesn't feel green, if that makes any sense. It reminds me of cold Autumn days of driving up the mountain to school when the skies are still clear, but the trees have started to change colour. It doesn't necessarily smell like those trees, but it makes me feel like I'm there.

Dry Down: As it dries it continues to get sharper and almost cologne like. It's not unpleasant, but rather odd. It reminds me of something almost aquatic - like fresh rain on those fallen leaves, like a good fall storm. I seriously wish I knew where I was picking up the aquatic sharpness from.

This mellows out as it dries. The leaves settle and the wood starts to emerge a bit. My skin starts to sweeten the blend a bit and tames the sharpness that the blend starts with. I love the addition of that little bit of sweetness in combination with the leaves and wood. I love it and the memories of which it reminds me.

  16. I've been dealing with a particularly nasty bout of what I now know is severe depression for the past couple of years. Recently it has gotten so bad that I knew I needed to seek medical help. In conjunction with help from medical doctors using fortitude has helped me make it through many days where I did not know if I had the strength to make it through.

I am so thankful for this oil as I truly don't know if I would have had the strength to deal with work stress or the anxiety I had for seeking help for my depression. Many thanks to Beth to creating this!

  17. All this talk of Halloween has me hoping someone will run a 12 days swap for that. ;-)

Ooooooh! That would be fun! Someone should do a 12 days! :D

    This! :squee:

I'll run one, if there aren't other volunteers. Arlith's 12 Days swap last year was awesomely fun. Also, this would be a good excuse to make a Halloween tree....

How about 13 Days of Halloween, starting on October 21 and Finishing on November 3, so that it could incorporate Dia de los Muertos?

Would a two week window between shipping deadline and start of the 13 days be enough to let internationals play?

Would anyone be interested in a Renfaire clothing swap?

Obviously it would not be a circular box type of swap due to sizing issues and stuff, but...

I am on medical leave and broke, but I need new garb to wear to Festival this year, heh....so I thought this would be a common thing we all may have to swap with eachother?

Someone in SCA once told me that local groups often organize seasonal jumble sale/swap meets to trade and sell garb.If swaps turn out not to work because of sizing or shipping constraints, that might be worth looking into?

Also, randomly--and probably not anytime soon-- but would anyone be interested in a swap where people make a journal/book of shadows/quote book/book of days for each other? Say, it would be a set amount of pages in a blank book that you would either illustrate or embellish, along with the cover for your swapper to be able to write in. I know that Joann's and Michaels have some really cute 8x11" blank canvas books for about $10. Or scrapbooks would work. Or even just a blank journal that could be modified. You'd add stickers and pictures and quotes based on your swappees tastes, and maybe(in the case of a quote book or recipe book) start them out with a few pages of good stuff, and they could fill up the rest with their own things. Or is that totally confusing/too labor intensive for swap timeframes?

That journal swap sounds awesome!!!! I don't think it's too labour intensive, especially if people know what is happenning while signing up. I think those kind of swaps are fantastic!

  18. In the bottle: MAPLE SYRUP!!!! Seriously that is all I get from the bottle. It made me wary as I like sweet scents, but only when they're tempered with something less cloying.

On: The grassy feeling really comes out to play. It doesn't feel burnt to me, but rather dried like hay. It reminds me a little of visiting my grandparents' horses when I was little. The maple doesn't completely fade away, but lends a sweet edge to the brightness of the grass. If I really inhale I can get some scorched feeling, and a tiny bit of coffee, but I have to work really hard to get those notes. However, it seems that they ground the scent so that it isn't just a top note of grass and sugar.

I really like this. It was a little surprising considering my initial reaction from the bottle, but I think it is a lovely summer scent. It's inoffensive and light, but still very unique.

  19. I received a sniffie of this in the Switch Witch round.

In the bottle it is such a beautiful scent. The leather is prominent, but it's a softer, worn leather - definitely a lived in feeling. The blend is further softened by the lovely beeswax and vanilla. In the bottle it's perfect a sweet, feminine like scent with the edge of leather and spice.

Unfortunate my skin destroys this one. Within 5 minutes it is all baby powder all the time, and even more unfortunately I apparently amp baby powder. I'm pretty sure that this is the beeswax that turns to powder on me as this has happened before in other blends with both honey and/or beeswax. It's unfortunate that the leather and lovely spices from the bottle don't stick around but they definitely dissappear under the overwhelming powder of the beeswax.

However, not all is lost with this scent as I think it will make a perfect scent locket addition. I'm sure I will be able to enjoy it if it doesn't interact with my skin.

  20. I love this thread so much *_*

Part of the reason I have quite a few of the perfumes I have is that they feel like certain fictional characters to me, or like things those characters would wear - usually ones nobody has heard of though so I feel shy about joining in the discussion :x I RP a version of Blaise Zabini from Harry Potter and around ten of my perfumes belong exclusively to him - he's easy to find things for - but I have been looking for something an adult Draco might wear, if anyone has any ideas? :x

Dorian strikes me as an adult Draco scent. It has that refined gentleman/upper class feeling, but is a little more than just that.
