  1. Sleek, black, dark, and clever: benzoin, honey, cedar, and dark musk.

    oh dear. first?! ok.

in the bottle, it's awfully light- benzoin and cedar, mostly, but in a nice woody kind of way, not a hamster-cage cedar.
on me, still mostly benzoin and wood, with a little bit of furry muskiness. there's a sweetness from the honey, but i don't actually smell the honey. as it dries something is reminding me of bergamot, but not quite as sharp as bergamot can be. it's nice, but a little bit.. wimpy? there's not much base to it, yet.

this fades fairly quickly, and i was hoping for more dark musk out of it, but i can see this aging to be darker and stronger. i'm gonna hang on to it, and will update in a few weeks or so to see what happens.

edit: morpher alert! hello, mysterious musk, you are smelling very dark and mysterious two hours later.

  2. blossoms in springtime is very much like light of mens lives to me- BIS is sweeter where LML is smokier, but very very close.

jezebel is almost spot-on klara and/or alice, but a little more floral instead of powdery. i think i actually prefer jezebel :wub2:

eta: tombstone is very much like badgers, somehow. i far and away prefer badgers, but they both have that dusty hayish sweetness. maybe tombstone layered with something sweet patchouli would come close.

  3. i don't usually fail this badly on a scent- but oh god, this is so awful to my nose it's almost comical. i dont understand how flowers and cream could be so stinky. i think the brand- new cream is part of it; i can smell a hint of it in love's philosophy and my well-aged boo- but there's a sort of spicy rottenness to it. dr. boyfriend also made the stink-face at it. actually, the more i think about it, its possible i've never smelled a creamcentric scent new from the lab and i'm not sure my nose is handling it well.. i get no greenery or flowers here, just blech. i'm sorry not to be more descriptive, but i really cant place it... it's a very rich, full, overwhelming gross

  4. just recieved a frimp of lights of mens lives and was struck by how similar it is to blossoms in springtime- beeswax all day. BIS is fruitier where LOML is spicier, but if i had discovered the GC first i probably wouldnt have sprung for the luper :D

  5. What the hell? Fruit Loops? this has never happened to me with either black musk or amber before, so it must be some absurdity about them being alone together... "hey! no one's chaperoning! let's get fruity!"

  6. I have one imp I just wanted to check. Reptoid Dominion. It says its supposed to smell like musk, but mostly it smells like a middle school boys locker room. King of like Axe. Normal?

i swapped that one away pretty promptly but yeah, i distinctly remember a stinky cologny-ness.

ARGH! recieved a mystery imp in a swap today that's soooo pretty... and the sender of it recieved it that way too, so there's no telling. i'm HORRIBLE at picking out notes, especially if it's well aged, but its a dark orangey oil, and if i had to guess i'd say some kind of floral/vanilla/fruit (i know, that really narrows it down, right?) for some reason it makes me think lupers. and it reminds me a bit of vasilissa without the skin musk, i think

  7. I'm a 31 year old cook, engaged to be married and an die-hard salsa dancer.

I'm pale, skinny, wear purple framed glasses and short burgundy-black hair.

I love 50's inspired styles in fashion, the kind that hug your curves. I love feeling like a woman, even though my job leaves me looking, feeling, and smelling like a dish rag more often than not. Inspiration: Palladium mambo dance scene while it did mambo. Google it, you'll fall in love.

I live for dancing, and am part of a dance group - we're building a cool choreography at the moment which combines salsa, middle eastern and hassidic styles.

My dream is to be a performer, and I do perform every time I'm on the dance floor, even in social circumstances.

I love food and wine aside from my job. I'm pretty good at pairing food to wine, and my fiance enjoys my knack for it every time we go out to dine.

I love to help, good with advice, I'm also pretty emotional and passionate about things in general.

I like knowing my way around things, physically or in situations, I need to be familiar with a place or a situation, or I get frustrated.

favorite colors (in random order): emerald green, royal blue, purple from cool violet to warm plum.... Vibrant pink (magenta), cool berry reds, creamy off-whites, creamy pale yellow.

favorite smells: fresh pineapple, peppermint, fresh ginger, the air around a citrus tree in full bloom, sweet pea flowers, Sauvignon blanc wines from New zealand, nag champa-soaked scarves (winter love!), peak ripe nectarines, raspberries, limes, oranges, cardamom, vanilla beans, muscat grapes, the sweetness strawberry juice and passion fruit leave on your skin, peony, fresh bread, hazelnut with or without cocoa, pistachio, fresh air of hills and mountains, sea breeze, fresh rosemary.

    Any recs?

for some reason i'm seeing Lamia for you. it's a very dark-purply scent, floral and feminine but with a dark, strong edge.

    edited for the dumz.

  8. ooo i wouldn't have picked this one up on my own but i was frimped and BOY, is this nice. it's the same wine note as halloween vegas, still sexy like vegas but in a more... romantic way. the beeswax adds a lovely creaminess and the rose petals are just barely there- there's a dusty floral hanging in the background. i LOVE this. color impression is a deep red.

  9. weird. i get the same shampoo-y-ness from this as i did the gaoler's daughter, but they dont seem to share notes. it's a bit appley, and a bit floral, but mostly it smells like i poured some commercial shampoo on. the chemical bite dies down a bit after an hour or so but it just seems to cut right to my sinuses while it's there- i'm gonna let this one age and hopefully get awesome.

  10. weeee! often 'new' vanilla is gross and plasticky and i have to age it, but this is beautiful right away. i agree with others about glowing vulva, but i think i actually like this better- the waxiness of GV is missing replaced by a lovely creamy floral. bottle, yes, please. maybe two.

  11. HO boy. at first (a little over a year ago?) my imp was super sexy, dark vanilla and tobacco with a very manly edge to it... almost a greenness that was a bit harsh on me. about eight months in though, oh, OH! nosegasm the bite smooths out, tobacco calms down and settles in with the wonderfully sexy dark vanilla and the wood hangs out in the background, grounding and deepening the whole thing. number one for me right now, maybe one of my favorite things i've ever worn. if you find it a bit harsh now, give it time!! don't get me wrong, it's by no means a light scent now- the throw here is definitely decent and it seems to last, oh, five or six hours on me.

  12. HOW CAN I LIKE THIS SO MUCH. SERIOUSLY. the foody and boozy elements should have killed this for me but :wub2:

i get the frosting- definitely agree with comparisons to cake smash- and the boozy note right underneath- but the cake and the booze are inside this big bubble of smooth, spicy, smoky sexy yummyness. i can't pick much out individually- actually, can you believe i've never sniffed dorian?- but i can't even remember the last time i found such a MAJOR instant win. this should age even better. i want bottles!

eta on further wearing i would put this in the same family as the illustrated woman- same smoky, sexy slighty foodiness, but this is a bit sweeter.

  13. it does smell a bit 'brown' but i don't know if it smells like MUSK to me exactly... brown fuzziness, slightly woody, and plasticky new vanilla- fortunately i've battled this vanilla many times and it always turns out well after i let it mature a bit. it's the pink snowballs kind of vanilla. actually, when i smell it with that in mind, it's kind of pink snowballs + patchouli. even the floral note is there, but magnolia and ylang ylang instead of rose. i think the honey is part of what's making it smell 'brown' but it's not screaming HELLOOOOOO THERE'S HONEY HERE.

i think with some time this is going to be sexy and feminine and a little different, like a really flattering nude-colored silk sheath dress.

  14. for some reason i tend to reach for samhain when i need comfort- i think it really does smell like autumn and the onset of nostalgia-steeped holidays. mme moriarty is another one.

just got a hold of a decant of comforting plush companion, and i must say it IS. comforting, that is. if i wasn't so worried about hoarding the small amount i have, i'd probably slather it when i got upset.
