  1. For me, the wet stage in this is quite peppery smelling. As it dries, it goes through a really pretty stage where it smells a bit like sweet grasses - I think it's the combination of tobacco flower (one of my favorite notes) and bergamot. As it continues to dry down, it turns into an odd, murky scent - it evokes the feeling of still waters with something not quite right below. And finally, in the end ..... powder and plastic.

This is an interesting scent, a morpher, but ultimately not for me.

  2. THE LINCOLN TUNNEL VORTEX
Not merely a pathway between Manhattan and Weehawken, the Lincoln Tunnel is also a site of mystery. Cars have been reported missing in mid-voyage as they passed through the tunnel, and individuals have claimed that they have exited the tunnel disoriented, with strange gaps in their memories. Are these accounts a side-effect of sanity-shattering traffic or is this a genuine highway to an alternate dimension? Swirls of discordant, high-pitched notes, pavement, and a thin coating of sweet, green-glowing radiator fluid.

I thought from the description that this was going to be very high pitched and ozone-y. What I actually get is an odd, almost waxy/powdery smell. The powder is almost certainly some kind of musk. To me, this is basically a one-note scent that stays true as it dries down. Among all of the things I've tested, it reminds me most of Tetramorph v2 (only without the honey).

An odd scent, but a pretty one nonetheless.

  3. THE LADY OF LAKE RONKONKOMA
Lake Ronkonkoma is rumored to be a bottomless lake and conduit to the netherworld. The gods of the Lake demand an annual sacrifice, using the restless spirit of a long-dead Seatauket maiden to lure unsuspecting men to their doom. Balsamic, reedy water, sweetgrass, algae, loosestrife, and lady’s slipper.

I find the Lady of Lake Ronkonkoma to be a salty aquatic in the same family as Jolly Roger and A Fit of Artistic Enthusiasm. Wet, it smells almost a little bit floral and kind of bright. As it dries, it darkens into a reedier, saltier scent - I'm envisioning a lake bottom with this scent. This is a unisex scent to me - it smells good on me, but I think it would smell good on my boyfriend as well.

  4. Wet: LAVENDER. Nothing else, just a blast of lavender.

Dry down: Thankfully the prominent lavender smell fades quickly into the background. The herbs begin to come out and it starts to smell like soap.

Far dry down: The honey scent finally makes an appearance in the far dry down. Most BPAL blends with honey in them dry down to this beautiful honey musky smell and this is no exception. Except the herbal scent also stays prominent and the result is an odd honey-soap smell. It is weird, a little unpleasant, and for me evocative of my grandmothers underwear draw.

    Pass.

  5. #523: In the bottle, it is thick vanilla frosting. Applied, there is a burst of RUM, but that scuttles into the background leaving the vanilla frosting scent at the fore - I'm trying to put my finger on WHICH vanilla note it is, because it is very familiar. I think this is the "cream" vanilla note that is in a lot of the foodier scents and it is going a little plastic as it dries down (as that cream note tends to do on me). Also, this might have some kind of nut in it? It's starting to smell a bit like burning plastic on my skin, which is a sure sign of a nut. A possible keeper? needs more testing. ETA: upon further testing, this is almost a pure buttercream frosting scent.

#411: This one is vanilla frosting too, but more of the cake note. This reminds me of the cupcake note from Cupcake Splatter Pattern Analysis. A much more sugary vanilla than the previous CT. Not bad, probably a keeper!

#453: In the bottle, this smells like menthol. There is a STRONG peppermint note in this. On, this is a MUCH mintier Snowblind. Definitely a "cool" smell; I can picture myself possibly wearing this in the winter, particularly after the mint note fades a bit. This might be better with a bit of aging, but right now it's a little minty for me.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with my first foray into Chaos scents!!

  6. This smells like eggnog and coffee when wet - I've never smelled Eggnog Latte, but I wonder if this is anything like it. As it dries, there is a ginger and a buttery cake note - like yellow birthday cake. I don't get any fruit or apple from this, it is definitely a creamy cake scent. This is not an overly sugary scent. Very good throw and longevity, at least on me. Love it!

FWIW, I do not get cinnamon from this at all, and I tend to amp cinnamon when it is present in blends. I also do not get the crust/scone note either, which tends to show up as an acrid plastic smell on my skin.

I'm not sure I'll wear this much in the summer time, but during the winter this will definitely move into my rotation.

  7. This was another sample that my kind witch sent to me from C2E2. I normally hate red musk, so I was hesitant to try this on my skin but I was cheered when I couldn't smell any red musk in the imp - and, as it turns out, I couldn't really smell it on my skin. Typically the red musk overwhelms blends and makes them unpalatable for me, but this was fine. The "metal" gave it kind of a soapy feel, particularly at the beginning. The dry down was a sweet aquatic amber. Kind of odd honestly, but not bad. I'll keep my sample, but I don't think I'll be investing in a bottle.

  8. This is absolutely stunning. The Velvets didn't make my short list of scents that I desperately wanted to try, but a sample from C2E2 mysteriously made it into my package from my witch! When this first goes out, there is a serious citrus edge to it - kind of lemony and it burned my nostrils a bit when I inhaled deeply. (I amp lemon like crazy.) Almost immediately that backed down into a seriously well blended scent. I get the musk, the amber, the violet leaf, the sweetness from the incense + ylang ylang. It's a sultry scent, one I would pair with a black dress for going out. Totally beautiful and absolutely bottle-worthy.

  9. Mmmm, dandelion. I love the "grassy" scents, and I knew I would love this one. It reminds me strongly of Fairy Wine and Enchanted Wood Florist, only spicier with the dandelion taking center stage. This will certainly be in heavy rotation for spring as it is very evocative of a spring day, grassy and green, just after the rains. Perfection.

  10. I'll have to see: a) how this one ages; and b ) how it smells when I'm not semi-stuffed up! But on me, this is veeeeeeeeery powdery. Usually amber behaves on my skin, but this is powdery all the way through. Very talcum-y. It's not an immediate reject, but it's not the immediate love I was hoping for. I get no jasmine, no dark fruits ... just powder - likely amber + gun powder. Oh well.

  11. This is pretty - a sexy, slinky blend in the same family (at least to me). I find that the vetiver behaves just fine in this and the sandalwood isn't overpowering. I also do not get the black current, and I would have liked more tonka in this. I think in the winter, this will be fabulous but it's a little dark for the spring for me.

As it dries down there is an odd powdery note that I'm not super fond of.

Right now, the jury is out. I may keep, or I might try and swap for a different Sakuracon scent.

  12. XMVLZENCAB BATH OIL
The family of bee deities that governed creation in the Mayan lands. Their scent is wild honey, black laurel flower, plumeria, and South American ginger.

NOTE: I apply oils directly to my skin as moisturizer and do not use them in the bath.

Honestly, this bath oil surprised me. From the notes, I was expecting sweet, syrupy, dripping honey. That is not really the scent here. The predominant scent is honey, but there is a dark and spicy base which I am certain is the ginger. There is also a floral, almost kind of woody edge to this which must by the laurel. I don't really get much plumeria out of this which is surprising and it does usually amp on my skin. This is really a well balanced, quite wearable, spicy honey mix.

Eta: the far dry down is all honey - which is as led the usual on me. But that is awesome because I love it!

This has the same wonderful texture of all the BPAL oils. Light and moisturizing without making me feel greasy.

I will greatly enjoy my bottle!

ETA: I have continued to just rub this directly onto my skin with no problems, despite the ginger. I do have a skin sensitivity to some notes, but apparently nothing in this. But YMMV.

  13. I knew this was going to be made of WIN by the notes, and I was right.

When it goes on, there is a burst of vanilla and light florals. As it dries, this turns sweeter with a musky base. I agree with fairnymph - this does smell like there is some kind of fruit in it, although it could be the tuberose. There is a similar sweetness in here as I have smelled in Ded Moroz, which has to be the tuberose. There is a touch of powder from the grey amber, but I would never call this blend powdery.

This is a sweet, innocent smelling perfume, perfect for a spring day.

  14. Wow. Wet, this is .... awful on me. There is a sharp, burning note in this that drowns out everything else. Whatever it is, it is the same note that I smell in the wet stage of Black Orchid v3 that I thought was vetiver, but not I am not so sure. No vanilla, no narcissus (which tends to be bearably sharp on me - I love in First Soft Snow). Just .... the smell of burning.

As it dries, I get the vanilla and a touch of some powdery, herbal combination. It actually settles down nicely! Into a slinky, femme fatale blend with just a hint of the sharpness in the back. Yes, all in all, this reminds me strongly of Black Orchid v3 on my skin.

I think I like it! If I can get through the wet stage of OMG BURNING.

ETA: The burning, and yes definitely anise-y smell is back. BOO.

ETA2: Hours later, it still smells like burning! If only it smelled like that smell in the middle of the dry down. Alas, to the swaps.

  15. This is a high, white floral on me. There is no creaminess, or milkiness on my skin. As it dries, the flowers go sharp and astringent and start to smell a little like a dryer sheet. I'm sure on some people this is beautiful, but I am not one of those people.
