    Peach Champagne

I thought I'd like this one best of all, but I'm not sure. The peach note is the same one from Agalea which reminds me of the Bath and Bodyworks peach scent from my youth. I think that this is not for me, but it is a lovely scent.

    Blood & Champagne

Me and dragon's blood, sometimes we get along and sometimes we don't and I'm not fond of the sticky sweetness in dragon's blood. IF this is dragon's blood (and I think that has to be at least one of the components), the champagne is keeping the sweetness in check. The wet stage does have almost a vanilla/amber feel to it and it dries down to a rich, fizzy scent with a hint of cola. Really pretty and I'm glad I took a chance here!

    Mango Lychee Champagne

This is wonderful! On me, it is quite heavy on the champagne note (which I like!!) with rich fruitiness in the background. I read some reviews elsewhere that said this smelled "candy-like", but I honestly don't get that at all. On the far drydown, it does head into "sweet" territory, but not in a foody way. I would say that there is more lychee than mango in this blend, but I think it is lovely and will certainly be in heavy rotation, particularly in the summer months.

    Black Lace v1

My review will not be nearly so eloquent, but thank you Invidiana for letting me try this! To me, this is a foodier version of the released Black Lace and the big thing that stood out to me is that I think this oil has a trace of some nut in the blend, as I got a touch of the rancid nut smell on my skin (it's like I'm allergic to the nut oils or something!) if I had to guess, I'd say almond. But this is very pretty and I'm glad I got to give it a whirl!

    A Wonderful Light

Mine smells like the BPAL snow note - it smells NOTHING like what you all are describing or the notes. It makes me wonder if my bottle is mislabelled.
  6. ellebelle

    Ice Queen

This is a wonderful, chilly bright snow scent - definitely the best of the "ozone-y" ones I have tried. It smells like ozone, fruit and a light dusting of white florals. This is super pretty and I love it!

    Voodoo Queen

This is .... weird. The wet stage is glorious, a swirling blend of opium and incense and some kind of musk. And then, as it dries, something else comes out to play. And that something else is evil. It mixes with the glorious scents and makes a really acrid smell. Pickles is about right. Sad.

    Storyville

Thanks for the tester, you know who you are. Smells like .... Cake Smash. Only cakier. That's as close as I can come to describing it. In fact, I could go so far as to say that it is the yellow cake note because that is the one that smells artificial to me on my skin. This is pretty, but not something I'll hunt for.

    Parker Lily

Was fairied a tester of this (you know who you are!) I don't think this smells at all like Black Lily, other than having the same lily note in it. If I had to pick out the notes, I would guess: lilies, some kind of fruit (I don't think it's melon, but it could be) and red/brown musk. I don't think this has amber as amber on my skin has a very distinct smell (that I LOVE). I really think the "sweet" smell comes from the musk, and I really think it's red musk, but only a drop. I would not be surprised if there was some cognac in there. Cognac is one of my very favorite notes in BPAL perfume - I don't know what it specifically smells like, perfume-wise, but it seems to round out and warm up scents that I love. This is utterly beautiful and I will treasure my tester!

    Frankincense Clove Hair Gloss

I agree with all of the above reviews. Mostly frankincense and its a relatively light scent, especially as compared to the honey which I find much heavier and longer lasting.

Fig and White Sandalwood Hair Gloss

To me, this is all sandalwood and no fig. Gloss doesn't weigh my hair down and my hair feels soft.

Fall SW 2011 Help! Part the Second

Is there anything you'd like from the Mütter Museum Store? There is nothing that seriously jumps out at me, but I haven't looked thoroughly. Some of the keychain string monsters are cute! I just noticed that Cocoa Pink has 5 ml Perfume Atomizers. Yay or nay? Scents you would like? Scents you would NOT like? No thanks. STOP ENABLING ME PEOPLE. If you're interested in a handmade pouch/cover for an item you have (phones, tablets, books, keys, kettles...), what would your ideal pouch/cover have? Design, material, additional functionality/features like pockets or lights or secret hidey-holes? I already said my ideal cover would be for my wireless keyboard. Something soft and protective would be best, in a fun/bold pattern. No weepy pastels for me! Would you like a photo collage based around your interests/favorite colors/favorite themes? No thanks. If you're crafty, are you interested in spoonfeather? And if so, what things there delight your eyes? I am not cool enough to know what this is. Colors! What are your favorite colors and what colors do you not like? Pictures and links, people! I like bright, bold colors. I posted some photos from my apartment in the thread. What is your favorite word? schedenfreude, for meaning. Sonorous of effluvium for sound. What are the feelings on arm warmers? Color, style, texture, length? Sure - I like them to go from the middle of my palm and up past my elbow. Dark color, soft wool is best. Think gothic knits. Do you like tarts? tealights? jar candles? votives? No tea lights please. I like soy candles in a jar best. What's your favorite flavor? Sour, sweet, bitter, salty? Mmmm, sweet. So, are there any online gaming witchees who covet purchasable in-game items or other gamer-y stuff? (yup, geek question) No thanks. Anyone doing anything cool for Mabon (or the start of fall, if you aren't pagan? Sadly no. What is your favorite coffee blend at Starbucks? If you don't have one, what is your favorite roast of coffee? My favorite coffee EVAR is Kenya AA roast. Witchee, have you made (or are you planning to make) any Lab or Trading post orders soon? And if you did (or plan to), you should share what you're getting I ordered from BPTP. I got: both atmosphere sprays, Crypt King, and the Pumpkin Oatmeal Stout soap. I ordered from the lab. I got ... a lot. Blood Moon 2011, Le Revenant,The Golden Apple of the Sun, Halloween: Las Vegas, and The Glittering Apple of the Stars. Are you scientifically curious and/or process-oriented? Would you like a project-type gift that allowed you do do something like make soap from scratch, take and (nontoxic-ly) develop photographs using a pinhole camera, use plant dyes on yarn or fabric, etc.? That would be lovely. What's 'your' song/your theme song? Evolve, Ani Difranco. What would be your superpower? teleportation, so I could go anywhere. Witchee, would you like a gently used BPAL tshirt? No thanks. Do you like homemade snack mixes? I know Puppy Chow was mentioned in a previous question, but what about healthier and more natural type snacks like granola or trail mix? You can put a lot of delicious and fun things into trail mix, yeah? If you say "Sure, I'd love some!" what kinds of things do you like/not like in those kinds of snacks, ie coconut flakes, raisins, certain nuts (allergies??), candy, etc. Give us your list of DO's and DON'Ts! Sure, I'd love some! My only "dont's" are raisins - I'm not a big raisin fan. I also prefer honey roasted peanuts to just plain salted ones. Otherwise, anything is good. Do you like charm bracelets? If you had a bracelet, what sort of charms would you want on it? Favorite hobbies, symbols, whatever? No thanks on the charm bracelet. My mom started a charm bracelet "for me" when I was 5. She now has three or four bracelets filled with charms from places we've been. Someday that will be mine and that is plenty. 3 things for under $20 that I really, really want and maybe haven't mentioned....: It's funny, because I've totally been thinking of things recently that I wanted to mention! (1) A non-disposable coffee sleeve (I may have added a couple to my etsy wishlist a while back). The cafeteria at work is frequently out of them and then I feel guilty for double cupping. And/or good coffee to-go cup. The one I have now is too small and difficult to clean. Witch, if I purchase from Starbucks, I order either grande or sometimes venti. My current to-go cup is about the size of a tall. Okay, that's 2 things, but they're related, so I'm making them one. So there! (2) Some new, cute, kitchen dishtowls as mine are so sad and raggedy. Preferably not in white. (3) A soap dish for my bathroom that lets the water drain. My nice bars of soaps that I like for hand washing turn into a gloppy mess because they sit in water in my current soapdish. So who else watched Babylon 5? My dad did, but not me. If you had to decide what your stripper name was, what would it be? Depends on the algorithm, but mine would be Cat De La Cruz. Sooooo Witchees, have you ever taken that particular personality test? If so, are you an Analytical, a Driver, an Expressive or an Amiable? Expressive Is anyone else afraid of or creepy out by dummies/puppets/Muppets/etc? Other things you're squicked/freaked by that's best left by the wayside? There is really nothing for me that fits this category. I am not easily made uncomfortable. Unless you're going to send, like, ... vomit in the mail? Something like that maybe. what level of contact were you hoping for? Medium to close - witch, you are doing fine! Witchee, would you like anything from this particular Haunt update? I bought all the things. For serious. But I'm always happy for backups, particularly in the glossing oils and scrubs! And I didn't get any of the whipped butters or perfume oils. Who's interested in Halloween: Montreal? I've resisted a decant circle so far, but definitely interested! how do you feel about hemp? jewelry, soap, etc? I have no particular feeling. Not so much into the jewelry just because it is not my style. What's your favorite classic fairytale, witches Puss in boots. say you stumbled into Camp Half Blood (or whatever the Roman camp ends up being named <bounces in anticipation>), which god claims you? I don't know what this means. JONES SODA CO has LE soda packs for The Guild, Buffy, D&D, So Cute, etc. Would you be interested in these, Witchee? Hee, those are fun. I don't really need them though; I would drink the soda and recycle. What about little wee creatures for your desk or mantel? I favorited some on etsy. Those as way cute! how do you feel about ethical animal fiber, i.e. wool and the like? Yeah, I bought a sheepskin rug at IKEA, so.... Is it just me who is nervous at revealing herself to her witchee, and finding out who her witch is?! I was my first round, but now I'm not anymore. I know I love my witch and I'm sure my witchee will love me. What kind of purse do you prefer? Leather, cloth? over the shoulder or crossbody, or something that can do either? Do you like bold bright prints with fun things, or monochrome, solid colours? I prefer solid colors and cross body strap, but I also like patterned clutches. I don't know, I just love purses. I've favorited a ton in my etsy favorites. What kind of bear is best? A bear with CLAWS and FANGS. Is anyone interested in reading The Night Circus? Added to my w/l. Do you drink wine? yes please. Hershey's Pumpkin Spice kisses? yes please. Would you be interested in regional jams, jellies, or other preserves? yes, please! I recently saw candy corn in non-candy corn flavors like CHOCOLATE and CARAMEL APPLE. It's not a fancy brand, I just saw it in the drugstore, but who here would like something like that? Hmm, maybe not. Candy corn is hit and miss for me. Is there any cheesy/non-cheesy Canadian stuff you'd be interested in? Coffee crisp. Kerchiefs? I don't wear them. I have a not-so-secret love for The Broship of the Rings. Are there any prints from her store you'd like? I don't know what this is and I fear looking it up. Who here likes Stephanie Pui-Min Law's artwork? Not my thing (I had to look it up). Is there anything you're wanting from LPMP? QUIT ENABLING ME. Witches, did you lament NOT getting one of the condom case/imp cases that got released with the courtesan series??? Nope, not at all actually. Do you have any bedtime rituals? Is there any particular product you have to apply or a certain shirt you wear or an act you perform to get you in the "bedtime" mood? Not really. I do tend to slather myself in some kind of smelly (glossing oil, lotion) before bed. But that is all. It's the weekend, and you find yourself without a single chore or responsibility for a few hours. Right this very moment, what's the one thing you would do if you could do anything? Watch my DVR! Are you interested in anything in the latest round of Lab auctions on eBay? Black Lace Proto (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA) What favorite song(s) would you think would translate into a cool or unique scent? Fifteen Feet of Pure White Snow - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. But I like snow scents. Some on yules! Anyone interested in VApothecary's Halloween update? MUST NOT LOOK. Interested in anything from the Beaver Moon Lunacy update? I ordered a decant of the scent with wax in it, but otherwise.... not really. Lots of clunker notes for me. It's all for the best. I sent you with $20 into a drugstore/Walmart (nothing too fancy/imported/expensive, just your average selection), and you are restricted only to the candy aisle. What would you blow it on? chocolate in all forms - chocolate kisses, chocolate MnMs, ... or, and some bright crawlers. I can't help it, I love them. I'm, like, 12 years old. What is your favorite kind of cookie? White Chocolate macadamia nut. How many boxes are you hoping for? as many as my witch wants to send! I have no hopes for things like that. How do you feel about loose leaf tea in baggies? I mean, I have a TON of loose leaf, would it be okay if I send you samples in some zip lock baggies? Or is that something that would squick you out? I'm not a big tea person, but if you have something you think I'd like, that's fine. It does not bother me. Actually, Truelove sent me the most awesome tea that she gets locally in the coffee swap that I LOVED. Just the right blend of herbs. Maybe it's not that I don't like tea, but that I'm not drinking the right tea (ponders). How would you feel about getting a custom poster with your favorite quote on it and some cool graphics? I'm an architecture student and can print posters (provided I make them) at pretty much any size using Adobe Illustrator at a low price. Also if you would be interested in this, what quotes would you like? Sure, that would be fun. Check my quote journal: username la_boheme_ @ livejournal Is there anything you would want from NYCC, something you'd like your witch to ask me to pick up? I'm in NYCC, so that's not necessary. The best thing I ever ate...:This is a TIE. My BF and I are quasi-foodies (We are not obsessed with food and will happily eat whatever, but both of us enjoy the fine dining experience). Best thing #1 is the rabbit ravioli from Alize in Las Vegas. But it's been several years since I had it, and the memory is fading. Best thing #2 (which I have eating twice in the last four months) is the truffled polenta at Scarpetta in NYC (Scott Conant's restaurant, for those Food Network aficionados). BEST. DISH. EVER. Do you like liquorice? If so, hard or soft? Sweet or salt? Normally salted or so salt it pulls your face into a fishy shape? And which shapes do you like? Not a hug fan, unless it's the usual red twizzlers. Sorry, I am boring that way. Do you like listening to audiobooks? Would you like to receive one, and if you would, what sort of audiobook would you like--or is there a particular audiobook you've been meaning to get? No thank you. Do you own a DSLR camera? Are you interested in a minky camera strap like these? What about anything from Photojojo? I DO own a DSLR and I am happy for any camera accessories. If you check my various websites, you can probably get a good idea of what I already have. Is anybody else into film photography? Interested in receiving film, supplies, etc from Lomography? YES YES YES. Medium format in particular. But Lomography is quite expensive - there are much cheaper vendors. ANY medium format film is appreciated. Does anyone else like collector Barbies?\ No thanks. What small everyday items would you like, that you keep forgetting to get? A large spatula, barbeque tongs, dish towels, soap dish Tarot Not for me. For those of you that like candles, do you like stuff from Yankee Candle? And if you had to choose, tarts or candles? I think I covered this, but I am not a Yankee Candle fan really. Reveal? Yes, please! I hope? Would you be interested in the #occupywallstreet scent? I totally already bought this. If you're the MMU type of Witchee, what Geek Chic Cosmetics tickle your fancy? No thanks. Nocturne Alchemy's NAlloween Pt. 2 update is live here! (And for a few days, last month's update too.) What do you want? I'm still testing out their GC catalogue - not ready to branch into their LEs! Have you seen the Lush holiday update? Do you like the look of anything from there? No thanks. Is there anything you want to buy yourself but have been too embarrassed (R rated or pg)? Shame? What's that? if you were my witchee, would you want some of my hot nuts my candied nuts my nuts covered in butter and brown sugar candied walnuts? Yum, nuts. Absolutely. Is there a movie you want so badly that you don’t own now? It's not a movie, but I really want more Buffy and Angel seasons. I'm happy with used!

    Fall SW 2011 Help!

WISHLIST HELP: BPAL: http://www.bpal.org/topic/127-wishlist/page__st__1900__p__1566904#entry1566904 AMAZON: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1OASHS9ZEEHNF/ref=cm_sw_su_w ETSY: http://www.etsy.com/people/effluere/favorites social media: I covered this pretty well in my ?aire, since I'm probably the most stalkable of stalkable people since my internet presence goes back to 1998 (eep!). I have different user names in different places to make it a little more difficult for the creep-os to find me. My LJ name is sophiawestern (you can find me on SnS and BPAL Marketplace!) and I am a relatively active updater. I mean no offense to anyone, but if you don't really update your journals, I probably won't friend you back. However, if you are a good updater, I probably will. Does this make sense? I've found a bunch of great LJ friends through BPAL, so don't be shy! Nail polish: I have recently been getting back into nail polish. I mostly do my toes, so any kind of crazy fun wacky colors are good for me. Right now, I am wearing OPI Tulip. Is there a quote (or lyric or part of a poem) that really resonates with you or is your favorite?: Shit, I totally forgot one of my multudinous journals! http://users.livejou...com/la_boheme_/ But here is a current favorite, or at least something I am aspiring to: For the first time I actually felt like I owned my skin, like it was me and I was it. - Junot Diaz, The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao Weenies: Dear future witch, I have no impulse control and I will not be able to resist joining decant circles in a crazed, feverish haze of scent addiction. What I will list are the scents that went on my maybe list - these are ones that I would love to try - even just a 1/4 decant! - but I wasn't sure enough of to purchase the decants. Those are: Araw Ng Mga, A Nocturne Reverie, Autumn Cider, Askalophos, The Changeling, Expressive Head, Nightmare, Sentimental Initiation, The Gorobble, The Zoom, and The Wiley Grasser. Yes, I have a problem, but I'm not afraid to admit it. Dream candle? Scent, color, type (tealight, votive, pillar, jar, etc.), throw.: I am somewhat candle-picky (sorry dear witch/warlock-o-mine). I do not have a tart burner and I don't love using tealights because they run out so fast. I really like candles in jars, and I LOVE soy candles. I find soy candles to be cleaner burning and hold a richer, less plastic smelling scent. My three favorite candles are an apple struedel soy candle from an art festivals in PA, a lavender-sandalwood candle by Candle Lite and a lemon scented soy candle made locally in WI, gifted to me by the fabulous lucyboo in one swap or another. I do not like yankee candle - they all smell too fake to me. See, I told you I was candle picky. Do you like knitted goodies? If so, what would you like and what colors? Love them, and love jewel tones. I would adore some fingerless mitts or a cowl scarf. homemade edibles? The way to my heart is through my stomach. And I am not picky and have no dietary restrictions. What GC do you live in mortal terror of the lab discontinuing, but never get around to buying? My boyfriend always clears out my GC wishlist for my birthday and Christmas, so I don't think there is anything that I would be desperately heartbroken about not having. Maybe Sheol or Cobra Lily. Cobra Lily has long been a favorite since I started with this crazy addition. I have a roller bottle with 4 imps, but no proper bottle. Yo, yarnies! Do you Ravelry? If so, who are you over thar? I am not, but my mom is! She is VickiTal over there and she has the mad skillz. Do you have a non-BPAL wishlist? Yes, it is with my BPAL wishlist. What is your favorite animal? Penguin, but I ask that the penguin paraphernalia be limited to some degree. For a while I was overwhelmed by penguin stuff being piled on top of me by well-meaning family members. If you see something truly extraordinary, do it. Otherwise, pass on it. What are you going to be for Halloween? I don't know. I don't do the dress up thing too often anymore. I usually wear a black dress and plop on my witches hat. I kind of wanted to buy a corset (baby's first corset, aww) and do something gothic/medieval themed, but I'm trying to lose weight so I don't want to buy a corset right now. But I've always wanted one because I think I have just the right figure for it (I am an extreme hourglass). Boobage - I haz it. Witchee, do you use a PC or a Mac? PC and iPad. So .... yes. If you could have a piece of oil painting jewelry (pendant, pair of earrings, or ring) with absolutely anything painted on it, what would it be? (If you prefer wall art instead, same question as above.) For painted jewelry, I typically like something simple and striking, like dead trees on a red background. How do you feel about nick-knacks? I like them if they are really special. I living in an apartment in Manhattan, so I don't have a ton of room for such things, but I make room for the truly awesome. What traditions (family, holiday, or otherwise) are important to you? Is it bad that I can't think of an answer for this question? Do you like going to the movies? Yes, very much! What are your favorite restaurants? I admit that I'm kind of a foodie, so truly my two favorite restaurants are Scarpetta and Aquavit in New York. I don't eat fast food at all, mostly because I don't have to because of where I live. I prefer deli sandwiches to McDonalds and there are delis all over the place. I have fond memories of the Unos by my old apartment in Washington DC where my roommate and I would split chicken tenders. If I'm on a road trip, I always ask to stop at Applebees of Friendlys. Do you play any video games? I have a Wii, but I mostly use it for exercise related stuff and streaming netflix. Do you like any anime? Not into it. Do you have an E-reader/iPad/something similar that you need a cover/case for? Nope. Well, I have an iPad, but I already have a case. Actually, what I could really use a case for is the wireless keyboard the mac makes. It is 11" x 6" x 1". how much do you like jewelry? like, if you were to get a shit ton of it during the round, how excited would you be? Holy crap, I love jewelry. LOVE JEWELRY. Witch, you will never go wrong if you get me jewelry, I promise you. How would you like to receive some of your Witch's favorite recipes, tailored to your likes/dietary restrictions? And specific wants? Sure, I've been really trying to cook more. I prefer things that are simple and delicious as I rarely have much time and I definitely don't have a lot of skill. Do you need any boxes to store your smellies in? What would you store in said hypothetical box--imps, bottles, supplies, all of the above? I have plenty of boxes for BPAL - could use another box for jewelry though. Muppets: yea or nay? My favorite is Rizzo the rat. Do you have an affinity for Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, The Far Side, and other comic strips? If so, which is your favorite? I love the Far Side. I pepper my lectures with the caveman and primate cartoons. Favorite Mythological Creature? Dragons were always my favorite growing up. Do you like hair things barrettes, headbands, flowers ... My hair rejects all paraphernalia except simple elastic bands. Do you like to burn incense? If so, what are your favorite kinds...sticks? cones? resins? What are your favorite scents? I prefer candles. Harry Potter - a fan? If so, what house are you? Harry Potter FTW! And I would totally be in Gryffindor. If you were to receive a gift card, what places would you like to get one from? For SW, online places are great. Sock Dreams or the Soap Box Company would be super awesome. If you RP, tabletop, forum, or otherwise... Do you have any original characters you'd like to see art of? If so, please give information! Even if it's a link to a web page or a profile or picture! My role playing days are long behind me. If you could see anything, what would it be? Can be a person, an event, a landmark or monument, an object, etc. And it doesn't have to be on this planet, or in this time period, or in this reality! I have been fortunate in this life to visit so many of the places that I have always wanted to go. The city of Venice always captured my imagination and when I made in there in 2007, it almost made me want to cry (from happiness, of course!). I would like to go back in time to see the medieval period. It's so romanticized and I would love to see the real stinking, dirty thing. Is there a particular myth/folktale/legend/fairytale/godstory that you're drawn to? I'm with yewberry - I like the grrrlpower myths and legends. My personal favorite is the legend of Hua Mulan. Before Disney ever made a movie of it, I read Maxine Hong Kingston's retelling of the legend in the book Woman Warrior, and I fell in love. When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? A really awesome cup of coffee and one of my "comfort re-reads" (books that I go to when I'm bummed out) always makes me feel better. As I said last SW round, there is something about reading a book that I've read a million times before that makes me feel relaxed and happy. My "comfort re-reads" include the Dark Tower series, The Mage Winds Trilogy (Mercedes Lackey), The Hero and the Crown (Robin McKinley), Blue Moon Rising (Simon R. Green), the Deathstalker series (Simon R. Green), and Harry Potter. What are your thoughts on comics? Any you like? Any you have been wanting to try? Favorite characters? I'm not too big on comic books, although I do have (and am reading) all of the Angel comics. I only have the first compilation of the Buffy comics, but I want to read those too. I am also reading the Dark Tower comics (borrowed from a friend). I like comics that take characters and stories I already know and put them in graphic novel form. Are you musical? Do you play an instrument, and if so, what? If not, what do you wish you could play or do? I used to play the flute and the piano. I mean, technically I still do, but I have let my musical talents wane. I still occasionally play the piano. Does anyone garden? And if you do, what do you grow? If not, would a starter garden kit be something you'd be interested in?My backyard and apartment get very little light, so plants are pretty much do0med. Do you decorate for Halloween? Is your decorating taste elegant, kitschy and fun, or scary? I do not decorate for Halloween. Is anyone fond of programs like Adopt a Tree/Highway/Library/Manatee/Acre of Rainforest/etc?: I am picky about my conservation groups because I know so many people who are involved with conservation efforts around the world - and I like almost all of these Adopt-A- groups. The money is usually clearly earmarked and actually goes directly do the cause. Peek-A-Boo is my favorite! I used to "Adopt-A-Penguin" through the SF Zoo, which was one of their programs to raise money for the upkeep of the animals there. The bat adoption website looks ADORABLE and I heart bats very much. Here is my blathery side-note: There is a restaurant/bar/prostitute hook up place (it is each of these things depending on what time you go) in Dar es Salaam where you can watch the birds all fly across at sunset in a huge group and the fruit bats fly out also in a huge group. The only way you can tell the difference is the shape of their wings. I took a video! http://what-now.org/remote/MOV00832.MPG I hear there is someplace in Austin, TX where you can see the same. Okay, blathery side note ended. Witchee, do you have any symbols or totems that have special meaning for you? Not really. I'll think about this more. are you interested in anything from the Villainness Bad Apples update? Yes, these are EXACTLY the kind of candles I like. All of those sound lovely. I'll pass on the soap though. What #1 actor, director, author and/or musician are you obsessed with? I don't really get obsessed with actors and stuff that often. But I guess my favorite actress is Kate Winslet. I already covered favorite authors. My musical taste is eclectic and my "favorites" shit like sand. If you have a pet, would he/she/they like to receive a treat or a toy as a gift? Does your pet have any dietary restrictions or other preferences w.r.t. said treat? The kittehs love toys and treats. And so do the chickens! And they will eat anything. What are your top three "I want to try them but I think I'll never get to try them" (or, "I've tried them and I want moar moar moar, but I don't think I'll ever get any") scents/bath oils/sprays? For me, it's Elf v4 (I have a testable sniffie and it is oh so wonderful - I desperately want more - this is my #1 BPALicorn right now!), Hellion (have v2 and I am super curious about the original) and the Sakura room spray. Is there a particular artist and piece that you would like a print of? If so, what is your max size that you could spare on your walls? I prefer original art. If you are an artist, I promise I will lovingly frame and hang anything you make for me. If you are in to beauty and makeup related stuff, what kind of stuff do you like? What is your skintone and hair color? Are there any beauty products you've wanted to try but just never purchase? I have blonde hair and skin with yellow undertones. I tend to keep at least a slight tan on my arms and face year round. Make up is fun, but I don't experiment that much. So, I guess, I welcome boring makeup! Do you like coffee or tea? Would you be interested in trying some different types? I love me some coffee. Any time, anywhere. Tea is okay - I prefer fruit flavored ones. Are there any CDs/Albums you've been wanting but haven't bought yet? What format do you prefer? (i.e. mp3, actual cd, record, etc) check my amazon wishlist, there are some CDs on there. I take music in all formats other than record. Are you going away for any part of this round? Yes, I'll be out for a weekend in October and in November, but I'll make sure and let you know ahead of time when I've decided to go. Would you like to receive a mix-CD from your Witch? Yes yes yes, love them! Do you enjoy any outdoor activities? Do you have a favorite form of "exercise"? (keep it clean, all!) I like hiking a lot. Any witchee's with a ravelry account have any favourited patterns that cost money that would be a welcome gift? I am not a yarnee. Witchee, are you a fan of musicals? If so, which ones? I love them all! DBF works in the theater industry, so I get to see a lot of them. Some of my favorites include: Ragtime, Catch Me If You Can, My Fair Lady, Chicago, Aida, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie Get Your Gun, and Les Miserables. I know this is heresy, but one of my least favorite musicals is Wicked. (meep!) I also love the opera - after all, an opera is just a musical with subtitles. And live animals! And fire! And big costumes! And people still dress up! (Yes, it bothers me that - at least in New York - a Broadway musical is no longer a dress up event. When I growing up, we always dressed up for plays and musicals. It's just a sign of respect.) I am fond of the thrift. Do you mind lightly used goods? Please be specific! For instance, I'm a little squicked by used clothing, but I don't mind any other used goods (i.e. books, glassware, games, DVDs, whatever.) Would a gift or a postcard from Disneyland make you squee with delight or puke into your mail box? Sure, that would be great! I love all postcards. How do you like your chocolate? For example with nuts, mint, peanut butter, caramel? Yes. what are your favorite types of Halloween candy? I like all of the chocolate minis. And the bright crawler worms! Do you prefer soap or shower gel? Please give examples of your favorite scents or brands. Shower gel and scrubs - I think I've covered this already? Beads! Do you use them? Would you want some? What sorts of beads do you like? No thanks! anyone like anything in particular from Think Geek? I love all kinds of Think Geekery - the Ninja Bread Men, and of the science toys, some of the molecules.... It's all so much fun. Anyone here like caramels? Sea salted caramels?!?! NOM NOM NOM. Do you work/study at a desk and enjoy interesting or cute office supplies? Yes! I always love little cute postit notes and papers to write on. e-readers: I prefer paper, thank you! stuff for the kidlets: This is covered in my ?aire, but I am child-free by choice. Would you be interested in a felted handbag? Do any of these styles appeal to you? http://tinyurl.com/3o2epzl Ooh, yes please! I love bags. These are my favorites: Simple, flared handbag. Structured bag with bamboo handles and infinite decorative possibilities. Gathered bag with long shoulder strap and flap closure. Simple square bag with lots of decorative possibilities. Unisex courier-style satchel. Strappy bag with chevron striping. Witchee, would you be interested in having a special tea cup/coffee mug/glass to drink out of? Sure! I like them to be relatively large (12-16oz.) and feel good in the hand. Otherwise, sky is the limit. Are there are patterns, motifs, etc that you especially like? I like geometric shapes a lot, in all kind of patterns. If you're a tea drinker, is there any specific tea you would like to receive, not just the kind/flavor but also the type/packing--i.e., tea bags, loose tea, compressed, etc? I do like tea and I know this is bad, but I favor tea bags. Or loose tea with the little bags you can put it in. As far as teas, I think I said this above but I like fruit teas, lapsang, and some flower teas. I do NOT like green tea, unless it is just a base for something else that is more delicious. In answer to the question about dressing up: I posted this over on the GUSP thread a while back. I love dressing up, and I go to a fair number of formal events since my SO is in the theater industry. However, sometimes dress shopping can be very traumatic for me. The last formal event I went to was in April. Let me tell you - it is frigging HARD to find an age appropriate dress for a 31 year old woman during prom season. Everything was mother of the bride or sequins and puffy skirts. I finally found this dress which I ended up loving.... even if I was one of the few people braving a color! (I took this image in the dressing room while I was trying on, so don't mind the bra straps!) I don't think I have a photo of myself in my last opening night dress, but I did post the photo of the dress. This is my favorite formal dress that I've ever worn - far out stripping my ugly 1998 prom dress. This dress should have made my look 8x my size because of the horizontal banding, but it has the mojo. When I put it on in the dressing room, three total strangers told me I had to buy it because it looked so good. AND I repurposed it for a goth/industrial night here in New York. A velvet jacket, appropriate shoes and jewelry and a head piece makes this not bad for rocking the goth. It is a little snug right now - must work on that! How would you feel about kitchen towels and other similar household objects, if they are pretty or a souvenir? I do not have a dishwasher, so all kitchen towels get beat up fast. I do need more, but "pretty" is probably lost on me. puzzles: Love them. Love jigsaw puzzles. Love crossword puzzles. I only like sudoku on the computer where I don't have to erase all of my little numbers. Love logic puzzles. Love love love. How about little bottles of booze? Ya wanna? What kind? yes please! Any kind, especially new and different stuff. I like to experiment! Can you sum yourself (whether it be personality, life's goals, ethics, whatever) in 10 words or less? Nope. What are your views on fudge and brownies? (Also, if you live in a warm place, where the fudge might melt, that'd be helpful to know. Or, if you're diabetic and fudge is death, that'd be useful to know, too.) NOM NOM NOM. Also, what about mochi? Love it, hate it, baffled by it? I love mochi. I like the white kind the best - I get it on my pinkberry! What looks interesting in the BPTP update? I may have already ordered a bunch of stuff. BUT! I am interested in Fruitbat Fruitbat, Sugar Spectre and the Beer bath oils. And the SGA soap! Does anyone like kimchi? Not this person. Would you be interested in a sample box(from somewhere like Birchbox or loosebutton)? I actually just signed up for Birchbox. I'd be interested in any of these. You have to place a Lab and Trading Post order. Right fuckin' now. No spending limits. What do you buy? I ... I just don't know. My impulse control is very bad and I have a lot of things that I wanted straight of the bat from the lab - now I just wait for my decants. From the post, I'd buy all of the LE bath oils, Snake Oil, Honey and White Sandalwood and Fig hair glosses, both of the LE t-shirts, Gertrude Dix Atmosphere spray, Morocco bath oil, SGA soap and and and .... :: hyperventilates :: Paintbox Soapworks - anything you're interested in, in general or from the latest update? Those are the things with the balls and the courts and the sticks and stuff, right? How do you feel about notebooks/journals/stationery? Anything you need or particularly like? I like them, but I don't get so much use out of them. I prefer post its or other little note papers as I write myself notes and tape them/stick them all over my desk both at home and at work. Does confetti/glitter make you angry or fill you with glee? Neither. I am glitter-ambivalent. How do you feel about stuffed animals/plushies/general soft, cuddly things? If you like them, what kind of animals would you be interested in? I like them, but have no space. If you see something truly fabulous, then go for it. Examples of truly fabulous plushies I have received: a woolly mammoth beanie baby, one of the evolving pushies from Think Geek, a gigantic brontosaurus, a stuff guenon (type of monkey). Fabulous witches and witchees, perhaps you all could note of you've received MeiLin's goodies? Or if you want? I would take either cookbook or any of the stories. how interested would you be on somewhat personalized bottle cap labels? I am a little OCD and I have my own system of labelling. Thanks though! Tea, my masai blanket and streaming netflix because: (1) tea sooths the throat; (2) the first time I went to Africa, I got malaria (yes, I took the best, newest, shiniest drugs, no they are not 100% effective) and spent the better part of a week huddled and shivering under that blanket I bought. But I got better! And nothing could be worse than that. Seriously, nothing; (3)there is nothing that passes the time than watching 13 straight hours of some television show or other on Netflix. And if I happen to be visiting my family, my mom. I don't think I ever appreciated my mom taking care of me until I moved out of the house I grew up in. What constitutes ultimate luxury to you? (go crazy!) A trip to a fabulous city where I stay in a 5 star hotel and eat in only the best restaurants. What do you really NOT want? I think I've covered this well in my survey, but please no soap or things that can only be used in the bath. I only have a short bath tub and I am tall, so they never get used (like bath bombs and bubble bath). Soap tends to really dry out my skin and I have more bars than I could ever use for my guest bath and hand washing. interested in anything from Lush? I love their Ocean Spray scrub, but it is quite expensive I think. Do you blog? Would you like a header for your blog, a layout, etc? I do blog - the links are way up above. But make sure you look carefully at my aesthetic first because I'm a little web page picky and I wouldn't want you to put time into making something that I don't end up using! do you like chex puppy chow or muddie buddies (ingredients: semi-sweet chocolate chips, PB, vanilla extract, powdered sugar, chex cereal)? EAT ALL THE THINGS. Would you be interested in a handmade bookmark? Sure! How would you feel about receiving a Groupon deal for something in your local area? If there is anything you WOULDN'T like, mention that also. Probably not a good idea, unless you map the item and see that it is near my house. I have no car and some things in NYC are farther apart than you'd think. Are you more prone to order out or cook at home? Would you be interested in cookbooks, kitchen utensils, and the like? If so, anything specific? I am prone to order out, but I'm trying to cook more at home. Cookbooks and fun kitchen utensils would certainly be welcome. Particularly since my boyfriend is/was the cook in our household and he is in the process of moving out and took a lot of our fancier cooking things with him. sugar skulls: Sure! I've never had one. Favorite flavors? Flavors to avoid? Favorite brand? Do you need more right now or are you set? Are you one of those people who could never have enough lip balm even though you have a bowl on your dresser overflowing with them and 10 in your purse and an order for more on the way? I'm pretty much a blistex girl. I don't use much in the way of lipbalm. If you had an international witch, is there anything you would like from the UK? (Or Australia, Belgium, France any other country we have witches from. Australia: TIM TAMS. Oh my god, I love them. Please? pretty please? The ones here are not the same. Canada: Coffee Crisp. I love it, and I have yet to find it in New York (I hear you can get it in Seattle though). UK: I love Appletiser and Peartiser, but I don't think it would ship well. Although not so many that look like winners for me this year - their foody scents tend to be too rich and cloying on my skin. I would love to try: Serve in Heaven Perfume Oil, Song of Songs: Comfort Me With Apples and A Thread of Scarlet. Would you like any ecotools makeup brushes? Trachelophorus Giraffe v3

Okay, I get .... (1) Greenness - I agree, that it is reminiscent of dandelion, but I don't think it is dandelion. Some kind of bitter, sappy green. This is awesome because I love dandelion. Maybe it's some kind of leaf? According to wikipedia, this beetle lays a single egg in the roll of a particular leaf. (2) Wet Stone - I get a hint of the scent of wet stone, a la Dungeon Crawl, in the wet stage. Dungeon Crawl is all wet stone, and this scent contains within it that smell, but mixed with other things. This is awesome because I kept trying to layer Dungeon Crawl with other things and couldn't find a combination I liked. This is Dungeon Crawl + ___________________. I suspect that the description would mention something about earth, since this is a beetle. (3) Sweetness - I think the Sugar Plum Fairy comparison is good. As it dries, a very sweet, fruity/floral scent makes itself known. I would suspect sugar cane + some kind of fruit that is common in Madagascar. I do not think there is any anise in here. I hate anise with the fiery hot passion of 10,000 burning suns. I don't like to taste it, and I don't like to smell it. I don't get that scent from this perfume. Overall, this is really different and I like it very much!

Darkest orchid and general orchid discussion

If you can find them, both of the Black Orchid prototypes are heavy on the orchid. I personally prefer v5 (patchouli and orchid to my nose) over v3 (vetiver and orchid to my nose).

    Xmvlzencab Bath Oil

XMVLZENCAB BATH OIL The family of bee deities that governed creation in the Mayan lands. Their scent is wild honey, black laurel flower, plumeria, and South American ginger. NOTE: I apply oils directly to my skin as moisturizer and do not use them in the bath. Honestly, this bath oil surprised me. From the notes, I was expecting sweet, syrupy, dripping honey. That is not really the scent here. The predominant scent is honey, but there is a dark and spicy base which I am certain is the ginger. There is also a floral, almost kind of woody edge to this which must by the laurel. I don't really get much plumeria out of this which is surprising and it does usually amp on my skin. This is really a well balanced, quite wearable, spicy honey mix. Eta: the far dry down is all honey - which is as led the usual on me. But that is awesome because I love it! This has the same wonderful texture of all the BPAL oils. Light and moisturizing without making me feel greasy. I will greatly enjoy my bottle! ETA: I have continued to just rub this directly onto my skin with no problems, despite the ginger. I do have a skin sensitivity to some notes, but apparently nothing in this. But YMMV.

    PX23

Yeeeessssssssssssssssssssssss! I would classify this as a "sandy resin", in the same general family as Ra, Cat Allingham and Hatshepsut v11. Please note that this doesn't smell the same but has a note and a feel in common. This is a gorgeous, sweet amber/incense blend that will be in heavy rotation in my collection.
  19. ellebelle

    Clytemnestra v3

I think the fruit here is ... apple? Plus definitely some exotic florals. I agree with Invidiana that there is orchid, although I don't think tuberose - it doesn't smell sweet enough. Overall, it starts as a fruity/dark floral blend but the fruit goes away and it ends as an exotic floral blend. It reminds me most of black orchid or Lune Noir in my collection. Very pretty, and definitely a keeper!

    Tattered Lace

OMG, why is cognac not in EVERY BPAL BLEND???! I love Tattered Lace. LOVE it. I smell vanilla with a rich backing that - to me - is reminiscent of copal. I think this is the cognac, coconut and frankincense blending. Whatever it is, it is beautiful. This is by far my favorite of the laces, even surpassing Antique Lace.

    Phyllocrania Paradoxa v1

I can't believe no one has said this - this has the same musky note that I adore from The Girl. I'm smelling them side by side, and on me that sharp note that everyone is referring to a dead ringer for the same sharp wet note in The Girl - which I ADORE. The dry down is much more vanilla than The Girl though. But other that that, not much more to add - pretty vanilla musky amber scent. Not foody at all to me (Celeste is foody IMO; a woman in the bathroom at work told me a smelled like cookies once when I was wearing it).
  22. ellebelle

    Strawberry Moon v5

I like this better than Strawberry Moon '09. There is a strawberry note here, but it is present (to me) as a sweetness. This is a floral, musky, creamy strawberry rather than the in-your-face strawberry of the released blend. This certainly smells less fake to me as well, although there is a slight artificial edge. This is actually really pretty and I hope to get a lot of wear out of it.
  23. ellebelle

    Pediophobia v1

I'm going to guess that this has some kind of white musk as a base as it has that sharp, aerosol smell that I associate with scents made from white musk. There is freesia (love) and some kind of light fruits (more love) but the white musk makes this smell like hairspray on me. Boo.
  24. ellebelle

    BTLS1

Wet, this is a strong grassy scent. One it dries, the sharpness wears off and it smells like ... dirt? I don't really get the florals that others are getting.
  25. ellebelle

    Chimera v5

Vanilla and sandalwood. There must be a lot of vanilla in this because I tend to amp sandalwood (Tombstone smells like dry dry woods to me without any hint of vanilla) and this strikes a nice balance. There is something of a lack of complexity here, but it would be a perfectly nice scent to wear on a day when I don't want something too strong. The vanilla might be vanilla-cream because it has that ever so subtly unpleasant plastic note that I have found in other creamy vanilla blends (like Glowing Vulva and Chaste Moon 05) that is vaguely artificial smelling when I get up close. No matter, I shall wear on my wrists instead.
