  1. Thanks for all of the wonderful suggestions!

I agree that Alice falls into this category too, and it is one that I like a lot. Three Brides, I cannot believe I forgot about that one!

There are a lot of recommended ones that I have tried and love but didn't think of in this category, but will have to try again now. Et Lux Fuit, Haloes, Queen Alice, The Little Wooden Doll, Kubla Khan, Inez, Two Five Seven, Lyonnesse, Echo, and Antique Lace.

And there a number on my current wish list that were recommended: Chrysanthemum Moon, L'Estate, Zarita, Lamia, Lady Lilith.

Red Lantern was too carmel-ly when I tried it the first time, but perhaps I should give it another go.

I'm especially excited to learn of some that someone have missed my radar screen until now! Bathsheba is one I definitely need to try! Strangler Fig, Pannychis, Victoria, and so many more!

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions!

  2. After looking through my list of favorites, I realize that two of the very top scents for me are Hod (Resurrected) and Flowering Chrysanthemums. I just love these scents, and would love to find others that are similar. Any suggestions? I think that Tissue is almost in the same category as well.

The Harp of The Unpronounceable Irish Name is close, but doesn't quite cut it for me. Similarly, Katrina Van Tassel and Schlafende Baigneuse are in the same general vein.

    Thanks for any ideas!

  3. This one was not a hit. My husband tried it on, and he said it smelled exactly like the herbicide 2-4-D. To me it smelled like mildew. I could perhaps smell a little leather, but that was it. I won't be wearing this one, I'm afraid!

  4. I got a decant of this from Glasspillars's decant circle (along with some pop rocks, how appropriate!). I ordered this one mostly for its name, as one of my earliest childhood memories was this event (the moon landing).

This is a very interesting blend. I definitely can appreciate the "inhaled Dr. Pepper" comparison! And the dusty museum and ice cream bar! What great analogies!

My first thoughts were that it reminded me a bit of Ultraviolet. My husband thought it smelled like baby powder. It's slightly sweet, and quite powdery and smooth on me.

I do like it, but am not sure I would wear it much, sadly, as it is giving me a slight headache. I will try again when it is a better time of the month.

  5. HUNTER
He turned, and standing there was a tall woman, with long, tawny hair, and skin the color of burnt caramel. She wore dappled leather clothes, mottled in shades of gray and brown. She had a battered leather duffel bag over her shoulder. She was carrying a staff, and she had a knife at her belt and an electric flashlight strapped to her wrist. She was also, without question, the most beautiful woman that Richard had ever seen.

Leonine amber, tanned hides, clove, and clary sage.

    Mmmmm! I like this one!

I generally love amber, but leather doesn't always work with me. However, this is a very smooth blend with both of these notes blending seamlessly. I get a hint of cloves, but it is not too dominant on me (as it is in Clockwork Couture Male).

It is a warm, fairly unisex scent, fitting well with my mental image of the beautiful bodyguard Hunter (who is described as having caramel skin, but who would not really be suited by a scent with a caramel note). It reminds me a little of Coyote, I think.

  6. DOOR
She was dressed in a variety of clothes thrown over each other: odd clothes, dirty velvets, muddy lace, rips and holes through which other layers and styles could be seen. She looked, Richard thought, as if she’s done a midnight raid on the History of Fashion section of the Victoria and Albert Museum, and was still wearing everything she had taken. Her short hair was filthy, but looked like it might have been a dark reddish color under the dirt.

Golden honey, nicotiana, blue chamomile, and cistus.

I was thrilled to try this one, as I'm reading Neverwhere at the moment. I love Door in the book, and I love this scent!

When wet it smells very floral: a green, spring-like floral, maybe a little like clover or sweet grass?

As it dries, the honey really comes out, adding much warmth and depth and beauty, but without being cloying. It becomes more womanly and powerful, in an elegant, almost regal manner. It's amazing: this scent really captures Door to me: when I first meet her in the book, she seems young and almost child-like, but my perception of her is evolving I see her strength and maturity.

I plan to slather myself with this oil as I finish reading Neverwhere today!

Thank you Beth, for this amazing oil! It is going into my regular rotation!!! :wub2:

  7. It pays to go through those frimps that you THINK you have tested but cannot remember for sure. You don't want to miss something really good! I've vowed to go through them all again and really pay attention this time! So Vixen was up today.

It might be my early morning nose, but Vixen smells a lot like a slightly less sweet, more patchouli-ey version of Snake Oil, which I love! So I am really enjoying Vixen, too!

  8. Initially, after first applying to my arm, it smelled like honey and ... citrus! With maybe something warm and rich and plant based... olive oil? This was before I read what the notes were supposed to be (it was a kind frimp from the lab). I honestly get no wine from this. After a little while it is warm and dusty and calming. I didn't think I would like this initially, but it is growing on me.

  9. Initially, this smelled very fresh, almost aquatic, and quite masculine, like something my Dad would wear. I added it to the pile of imps that I delegate to my husband. Now it is smelling very clean, like some kind of deodorant soap (Safeguard?), but in a nice way. I may have to sneak it back for myself! I can imagine wearing it on a hot summer day, just after a shower, after working all day outside.

  10. This was a generous frimp from the lab (thanks!!!!!).

My first impression was pine, and a dusty, incense-like scent. I didn't realize initially that there was cinnamon in it. My husband thought it smelled slightly aquatic at first, although I'm not really getting that. It reminds me just a little of Golden Priapus.

I definitely understand the Christmas potpourri comparisons. But in a good way! I like this. Not sure I need a bottle, but will definitely use my imp again!

  11. Oh, this is nicer than I expected! It does smell quite a bit to me like SweeTarts? Smarties (the American ones, not the chocolate ones), at least at first. Now it smells very fruity... mangoes? A little bit tart. Refreshing and sweet! I think this will be very nice to wear on a very hot day.

  12. I thought I was losing my mind when I opened my bottle of the resurrected version today and thought it smelled like... Lamb's Wool! Thank you, AmandaKay, for convincing me I am not crazy.

I have a decant of an older version of Black Lace that I adore. The resurrected version is nice, but very different. It's got a little fruitiness to it, which is nice, but not what I expected. I do get some tobacco, almost a cherry tobacco. I am liking it more and more the longer I wear it. We'll see how it ages!

  13. Isnt nicotiania tobacco blossom? If it is, I HIGHLY recommend Smoky Moon. If not, well then, disregard =)

Yes, at least the flowering tobacco that I grow is in the genus Nicotiana , and it smells fabulous. I need to find some Smoky Moon!

  14. I received this as a frimp from the lab (thanks!!!), and was excited to try it.

On me, I smell mainly roses, with a hint of cloves/carnation? I usually like all of these components, and this is a nice scent, but not something that I will be slathering myself with on a regular basis.

Note added later: it reminds me a little of Black Phoenix, which I really like. I don't get any almond from #20 Love Oil, though, which I usually do with Black Phoenix. Still on the fence with this one.

  15. My latest BPAL convert: my 4-year old nephew, thanks to El Dia de los Reys. He smelled me wearing this, and was instantly in love. He asked me every five minutes for a sniff. Then I put some on him, and he could not stop smelling his wrist. He says he is not going to wash that wrist, ever! I think my decant is going to end up in his Christmas stocking.
