  1. I've had an odd problem also when using Glowing Vulva bath oil directly on my skin as a moisturizer. This has happened several times now consistently, and now I'm afraid to use it and I LOVE the smell of it so much. Several hours later, I get a visual disturbance that is exactly like the aura to a migraine (zigzaggy flashing lights, along with some general inability to think straight). This lasts about 20 minutes or so. I get a very, very mild migraine-like headache afterward. Sometimes I will get several of these in the same day (and I only generally get a real migraine once a year or so).

Of course, I'm at an age where hormones are shifting, so I'm not giving up hope yet. The other bath oils don't seem to cause this problem, just (sadly my favorite) Glowing Vulva.

    :cry2:

  2. Very sweet and foody!

At first, I really got the dusty, cocoa smell, which was actually nice (sometimes chocolate and I don't get along in perfumes). My husband commented that it smelled just like "Calflac"... which is apparently a milk replacement product given to the calves of dairy cows. So perhaps it has a bit of a dried powdered milk scent also?

Later the cocoa seemed to dissipate, and then it almost seemed like a sweet strawberry note was peeking out?

I put this on in the morning and could still smell it late in the day! It had medium throw on me, for a BPAL perfume.

I like this!!! I'm glad I have a bottle. It is a great scent to wear on days when I am wearing bright pink. It's happy, fun, and "cute", if a scent can be cute!

    Edit for Freudian slip.

  3. I'm loving this one (and most of the other Gustav Klimt scents). This is beautiful, somewhat subdued red musk... I've been wearing a lot of sweeter, brighter red musks lately (Berry Moon 2011 and Luna Negra, both of which are wonderful, and WILF and Snake Charmer which are some of of my all time favorites), and this one is much drier and more elegant.

  4. BROOD XIX
Under the heat of the summer sun, a Cicada was hopping about in a large field, chirping and singing lazily. An Ant passed him by, busily heaving along, with tremendous effort, bits of corn he was taking to the nest.

“Why not come and chat with me,” asked the Cicada, “instead of toiling like that? The day is too lovely to spend in such a manner.”

“I am helping my fellow ants lay up food for the winter,” squealed the Ant indignantly, “and I recommend that you do the same.”

“Why bother about winter?” said the Cicada; “we have got plenty of food at present. Climb this tree with me and enjoy the sun-warmed bark and the gentle swaying leaves.”

Turning away, the Ant went on its way and continued its work dutifully. The Cicada pitied the Ant, calling it foolish for wasting time working on such a lovely day, and went back to singing his summer songs of joy.

When the winter came, the Cicada had no food and no shelter. The Cicada found itself dying of hunger, while the resourceful and hardworking ants were snug in their warm holes, full of corn and grain from their stores.

Then the Cicada knew: It is best to prepare for the days of necessity.

The Cicada, in myth, represents indifference and idleness, brevity and impermanence, and dissolution through pleasure:

The story is that once upon a time these creatures were men-men of an age before there were any Muses; and that when the latter came into the world and music made its appearance, some of the people of those days were so thrilled with pleasure that they went on singing, and quite forgot to eat and drink until they actually died without noticing it. From them in due course sprang the race of cicadas.

    (John Sallis on Plato’s Plaedrus)

The cicadas also represent immortality and rebirth because of their emergent resurrection from the womb of the earth, and they embody transformation and self-preservation through guile because of the way they shed their golden skins.

The Great Southern Brood of cicadas is now hatching.

Tree sap, hay, almond blossoms, moss, hemp, corn stalks, acorn, sweet amber, and rice milk.

Yes! This is almost exactly what I was hoping for in this scent! It is warm, sweet, nutty, grainy, comforting. Somewhat reminiscent of Fledgling Raptor Moon, which is a scent I like a lot, although the notes are quite different. Very unisex and quite unique. It has a hint of porridge-like mealy-ness that I just love!

  5. I'm not sure I could stop myself from wearing Nymphia if Ow1goddess and I decided to go up to D.C. and make it legal (at least in some states!). Ow1goddess and I are both classicists, and the name is just too perfect to pass up.

That *would* be perfect, and totally awesome. :)

Anybody besides me wearing Litha today, in honor of the solstice?

Yes, I am wearing Litha today and loving it!!!

  6. I actually got a lot of lemony-ness out of this one too... at first I thought it was because I had also put Benevolent Triple Conjunction on my other wrist... I do like lemon, and it smelled pleasant (although somewhat faint in comparison to BTC) but I was hoping for more vanilla, cocoa, and patchouli. I will try it again on its own.

It seems like there are a lot of lemony scents lately from the lab!!

  7. i have to admit I was a little disappointed in this when I first got it. Fresh, the cassia dominated and it seemed to have almost a soapy character.

Today I decided I needed a "red" scent and noticed this lonely bottle in my BPAL box, and decided to try it.

It is really lovely now!!! The cassia is very bright at first, but later calms down. It has a sweet, warm, incensey smell that is comforting and a little spicy. The soapy character is gone. The dragon's blood is just a soft, sweet base and is not that strong in this blend. My husband really liked it too!

Now, what other lonely bottles are hiding in my box waiting to be re-discovered....

  8. I think this may be one of my all-time favorite scents from BPAL ever!!!! It is a lot like Snake Charmer, but with the yummy champaca from Panther Moon. If you like Snake Charmer and Panther Moon, I think this will be love. :wub2:

  9. ltrittipoe nailed this scent: Watermelon Jolly Ranchers!!!!!

I will need to wear it again to see if it eventually morphs into something with time. I couldn't get past the Watermelon Jolly Ranchers the first time!

  10. THE RUSSIAN DANCE
Florentine iris, black tea, labdanum, patchouli, champaca flower, benzoin, and ambergris.

The Russian Dance is one of my favorite parts of the Nutcracker, and the combination of notes intrigued me.

Wet: Sharply floral, with black tea astringency.

A few minutes later: a little bit of the champaca flower is showing through now.

It's still rather sharp, but is starting to mellow a bit. It is a fairly bold scent, if that makes any sense. I smell the patchouli now a bit; a little bit of an earthy undertone.

I like it, but I'm not sure how often I will wear it.

  11. DANCE OF THE MIRLITONS
Marzipan, Burmese rosewood, white sandalwood, Somalian rose, tonka bean, rum accord, and white musk.

I am excited to be the first to review this one! It's got a lot of notes that I like, although I'm not sure how the actual combination will play out.

Initially: spicy almond extract, a little bit like Eclipse, and quite sweet. The rum is coming through now. Pretty strong throw.

A few minutes later: I'm getting some rose now. It really seems like there is some cinnamon in there too; I accidentally touched my wrist to my nose and it stings a little like Saw-Scaled Viper does for me.

    This is really interesting!

After about 10 minutes: lots of rose, maybe a hint of the sandalwood. I'm not getting much white musk or tonka bean. The sweetness has largely disappeared.

Overall, I like this quite a bit. I am wondering how it is going to smell in a few hours...

Edit later: It is reminding now a bit of Black Phoenix, in a good way, since that is one of my favorites.

  12. I really, really wanted to like this blend, and I thought I would, since the components are all "win" for me.

Alas, on my arm it smells like cheap hotel soap :(

I will try again in a few days before I make a final verdict...

Edit: I wore it again this weekend. It does smell better after wearing for a few hours, but it still reminds me at first of some soap we used to have around the house when I was a kid. It is a bit too sweet or something... So disappointing! I really don't get any carnation, just orange blossom.

  13. I am in full agreement with LunaLovegood's review. This is a really, really nice blend. It is rare that I wear the same oil two days running, but I am doing this with Whoop.

Initially it is all about the pine. A freshly cut Christmas tree, dragged into the house. Later the pine takes a backseat to the other components, which are nicely balanced in a sweet but not cloying way.

I worried that I would smell like a holiday candle... which maybe it does a bit, but in the very best way possible. My husband agreed when he smelled my arm: he said I really did smell like Christmas. It's a very happy scent for me!

  14. GROßVATER TANZ
The evening’s celebration winds down with a traditional German folk song: rice porridge, candied fruits, heavy cream, powdered clove, and Lebkuchen.

Yummy!!!!! This is exactly as I had hoped. It has the creamy, spicy, mealy scent of the porridge, and some candied citrus in there too. The cloves are not too strong, and overall It is very reminiscent of festive holiday cooking.

It doesn't have huge throw on me, and has faded a bit in the 2 hours that I have had it on, but it is very delightful while it lasts.

  15. Thanks to bheansidhe for organizing the circle of testers for these retail exclusives!

The first time I tried this on, I loved it. It had a dark, sweet, sexy smell that I really, really liked. I thought I would have to get a bottle for sure.

The second time (granted, this was first thing in the morning) it smelled like..... peanut butter for some reason!!!

For some reason I cannot get past that peanut butter association. I like to eat peanut butter... but smelling like it, not so much...

  16. I am not sure why, but this smells very much like Black Lace on me once it has dried down. The tobacco flower smells more like tobacco to me than the nicotiana I have grown in the garden. I think this is one I am going to have acquire in bottle form. :D

  17. This one is gorgeous!!!

It is a beautiful blend. The rose is not that noticeable yet. The lavender is there, but it is subtle. It is sweet, dark, and while there is a very slight fruitiness to it, it doesn't dominate. Feminine, romantic, and utterly lovely.

  18. JOYFUL MOON
There was a time when meadow, grove, and stream,
The earth, and every common sight,
    To me did seem
    Apparelled in celestial light,
The glory and the freshness of a dream.
It is not now as it hath been of yore;—
    Turn wheresoe'er I may,
    By night or day.
The things which I have seen I now can see no more.

    The Rainbow comes and goes,
    And lovely is the Rose,
    The Moon doth with delight
Look round her when the heavens are bare,
    Waters on a starry night
    Are beautiful and fair;
    The sunshine is a glorious birth;
    But yet I know, where'er I go,
That there hath past away a glory from the earth.

White musk, French vanilla, ambrette seed, frankgipani, angelica root, white rose, orris, and honeysuckle.

I have been looking forward to trying this one as soon as I read the description- lots of notes in here that I like a lot!

It is indeed a beautiful blend. I think in my mind it was going to smell a bit like Posset's Scent of Angels, and there is some similarity, but not much.

The honeysuckle and rose are there, but balanced very well. The white musk is gentle and clean. I don't really detect the orris much. The vanilla is subtle and sweet.

I love this! :wub2: Wish I had purchased a backup bottle!

  19. Thanks to GypsyRoseRed and her Bat's Day sniffing circle I was able to experience Rivet.Goth. Sadly, this is probably one of my least favorite BPAL oils ever. As someone else commented, it smelled like... fertilizer! Or moldy leather? I had to wash it off immediately. It does smell like the inside of a garage, but not in a good way to me. But at least I got to try it!

  20. I wasn't too excited about this one, but ordered this in a decant circle because I ordered all the other Moths and didn't want this one to feel left out. :) And I know from experience that sometimes the scents that don't thrill by the list of notes end up being wins.

On me it is fruity, sweet; mostly pear and lime. I get a hint of carnation and a little tea blast initially, but now after about 15 minutes it is mostly a nice sweet fruity light green scent. Its fruitiness reminds me a bit of Autumn Moon of the Mirror Stand.

Actually, I am really liking this one!!!! I will wear a few more times, but it might be bottle worthy!!!
