This is a lovely, lovely scent that does, indeed, showcase lilacs in full bloom. I thought it would remind me of my Mother, who loved lilacs above all other flowers. And it does, but even more, it reminds me very strongly of one of the very first "little girl" perfumes I had as a young child. That doesn't mean that this is a youngster's perfume; I think it could be worn by anyone of any age. I'm so glad I have a bottle of this beautiful perfume.

What about Lemon Scented Sticky Bat? -
White Clover, Elderflower, and Apple
wendyb1063 replied to Seajewel's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
This is a lovely, lovely scent! Even my husband (who classifies most of my scents as "cardboard", "men's cologne", or "weeds") said he really liked it. It's a masterful combination of the three notes. The white clover brings sweetness and a hay-like/coumarin-ish warmth, but also some floral character to enhance the elderflower. The apple brings its own balanced tartness and sweetness. We have lots of both of these plants growing on our land, so to me, this is the ultimate upper Midwest summer scent. I remember one time biking near a field of white clover in bloom, maybe 25 years ago, and thinking it was the most beautiful scent I had ever smelled. This reminds me of that. It has some serious throw at the beginning.- 9 replies

Really? No one has reviewed this one yet? To my nose, this perfume is richly fragrant with the BPAL snow note and coniferous tree notes. The amber is in the deep background, proving a hint of warmth. I don't detect any florals, maybe a hint of iris, but perhaps they will come out with time (although I'm not sure what snowdrops and hellebore smell like). This honestly smells more like a Yule fragrance. It's quite lovely and makes me think of walking through a pine forest on a quiet winter day.

Vanilla Husk, Nutmeg, & Hay Absolute
wendyb1063 replied to Seajewel's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
I really, really like this one! It's like Tombstone without the cedar, per my husband. The vanilla is indeed reminiscent of Antique Lace, and the nutmeg is fairly quiet. The hay is beautiful. Longevity is good: I put it on more than 12 hours ago, and it's still very noticeable. The scent profile doesn't change much over time either. -
I wanted to love this... but I just "like" it. I think I assumed it would be sweeter, with some grounding vanilla vibe from the amber. But there is something about this one that doesn't quite do it for me. The lemon here seems almost bitter, like lemon rind, and there is almost an aquatic note to this as well. It does have pretty good longevity, though. We'll see how it ages...

This one starts with a very strong almond/cherry blast. After a few minutes, the musk comes through, as does the chocolate and mint. The almond/cherry face to a marzipan/playdough note that I really like. The star anise is barely a whisper. It's not as foody as it sounds, but is more of a sweet, dark gourmand. It's got serious throw! Overall, I like this quite a lot! I suspect it will be one I wear often. It reminds me a bit of WILF but with cherry and almond.

A few suggestions: Belle Epoque: this is a gorgeous GC that doesn't seem to get enough love. It is a warm scent; a rich orange-gold in my mind. Sudha Segara: a warm ginger Xanthe the Weeping Clown: Not as fruity as the notes make it sound Balancing the Sake Cup: a fairly recent LE; ginger and neroli Mermaid: an older Lilith perfume with tiare and gardenia but also has some vanilla and other notes; not that aquatic. So Below: Amber, coconut, musk, but kind of summery Some harder-to-find ones: Queen Mab Lace, some of the Snake Oil flankers (Banded Sea Snake, Dragon-Smooched Snake Oil, Snake's Kiss, Peach Brandy Snake Oil), Marae, Et Lux Fuit, Signoir Dildo, Oval Portrait.

Help me find the perfect October scent?
wendyb1063 replied to stainedglass_siren's topic in Recommendations
A couple other ideas: Fearful Pleasure (has some smoke, but not much), Winds of Autumn (I don't get a lot of apple in this one), Magnificient Autumn (no apple in this one). -

Samhain! Although apple is not a dominant note for me. If you could tolerate amber, I would have suggested Liquid Gold is in the Air. Lamb's Wool is a great apple cider scent, too. Whiskey and Apple, maybe? -
As FeyoftheFellwood said above, Defutata is a serious reminder of why I should revisit the GC more often. This is a gorgeous olive blossom and vanilla scent. Somehow it transports me to another place, another world, reminiscent of something from my past. What a fantastic blend!

I have a bottle of this. It smells like a not-too-sweet cake (like a non-corny cornbread, if that makes any sense) with clove and a hint of nutmeg. I don't get any obvious honey notes. It's notably foodier and spicey with less honey than Amber Incense and Honey Cakes. It reminds me of All Souls Day, but I haven't smelled them side by side. Overall, it is a really nice scent, and pretty much exactly as I had expected. As someone who is somewhat of a fan of St. Hildegard, I believe this scent honors her spirit.

I like this a lot, and expect that most people will: it's a soft, feminine scent. Call me crazy, but it reminds me a lot of Antikythera Mechanism spiked with some florals and a little marshmallow. I suspect this will be a FB purchase for me.

This is AMAZING!!!!! I don't know what else to say. I've been collecting BPAL for 12 years now, and this one has just catapulted to one of my all-time favorites. Caveat: I haven't let the bottle rest, and I've only just tried it on. It's got an almost creamy, almost coconut-ey, almost marshmallow vibe to it. The weeds are soft and sweet. The cognac adds warmth and depth but not a lot of booze. The balsam is not pine-ey; it's more resiny and grounding. The vanilla is glorious. It reminds me a bit of Ivory Vulva, or Boo, or possibly even Glowing Vulva (although it has been many years since I wore that scent).

Invention, it must be humbly admitted, does not consist in creating out of void, but out of chaos. ― Mary Shelley, 1831 This Samhain, were reveling in the desecration of a classic blend: Damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein. I was the lucky recipient of #12. It starts out with a bit of orange and maybe a bit more of the the eucalyptus vibe I get from regular Samhain. I love it! With time, it morphs into the sweet, honey/apple-like scent of regular Samhain. I love it!!! My best Chaos Theory gamble ever!

We believe that the American dream is big enough for everyone, for people of all races and religions, for men and women, for immigrants, for LGBT people and for people with disabilities. For everyone. Lilith at the Women’s March DTLA, 2018. Nasty Woman? Nah, Nasty Tween: honeyed fig and sugar-dusted patchouli, sweet amber oud, a drop of red currant, and vanilla cream. I always blind-buy at least one Lilith each year. This year I immediately purchased "The dream is big enough for everyone" because I love the sentiment behind the scent (and the notes sounded gorgeous). It's fresh out of the mailbox, but I couldn't resist a quick test. I'll try to add to this review later. Wet: I can detect most of the notes except the vanilla cream. I mostly get honeyed fig with a tiny bit of patchouli. It's not particularly sweet, and fruitier than I expected. It's very pretty and quite powerful. As it dries, I get even more fruitiness with a bit more sweetness. It's making my mouth water!

This summer, Brian got married at the Mountain View Mausoleum. As a side benefit, the Barrials got to spend hours skulking around its beautiful, cavernous halls in the weeks leading up to the event. Lilith loves the vast quietness of the mausoleum almost as much as she enjoys playing tag in the cemetery, and wandered the halls doing impromptu math equations to figure out how old people were when they passed. I love this little cemetery creep with all my cobwebby heart. Marble-white musk, orris root, and vanilla blossom. Potent, sweet, narcotic, floral. I don't get a lot of vanilla, at least initially, nor is it overly powdery. It seems to be a close cousin of Pediophobia, although I should try them side-by-side to confirm. I like this, especially after about an hour or so.

When I first put this on, it smells almost exactly like a Tootsie Roll: chocolate, sugar, and something vaguely fruity (maybe it's the lemon balm coming through; I tend to amp that note, or maybe it is the wood sorrel). It's potent. After the initial candy rush, I start to get a bit of the clove pink. It's a bit jarring at this stage: the floral, the fruit, the chocolate. But then it starts to settle into something beautiful and difficult to describe. There is still some sweet chocolate, but it's mellowed and blended with the marigold and some of the other things, I think. I don't really smell fennel, borage, rosemary, yarrow or rue, and I don't know what butterburr, self-heal, sweet cicely, or masterwort smell like. It's not "green" or overtly "herbally", but a comforting, almost clean scent. I'm not describing it very well, but it's really lovely. And it lasts and lasts! I'll have to try it again in a few weeks. I find the 13s tend to age really well.

DOOR She was dressed in a variety of clothes thrown over each other: odd clothes, dirty velvets, muddy lace, rips and holes through which other layers and styles could be seen. She looked, Richard thought, as if she’s done a midnight raid on the History of Fashion section of the Victoria and Albert Museum, and was still wearing everything she had taken. Her short hair was filthy, but looked like it might have been a dark reddish color under the dirt. Golden honey, nicotiana, blue chamomile, and cistus. I was thrilled to try this one, as I'm reading Neverwhere at the moment. I love Door in the book, and I love this scent! When wet it smells very floral: a green, spring-like floral, maybe a little like clover or sweet grass? As it dries, the honey really comes out, adding much warmth and depth and beauty, but without being cloying. It becomes more womanly and powerful, in an elegant, almost regal manner. It's amazing: this scent really captures Door to me: when I first meet her in the book, she seems young and almost child-like, but my perception of her is evolving I see her strength and maturity. I plan to slather myself with this oil as I finish reading Neverwhere today! Thank you Beth, for this amazing oil! It is going into my regular rotation!!!

I love this!!!

This is awesome! It's a warm, soft, dusty, cocoa (not chocolate, but cocoa) and dirt scent. There is an illusion of a hint of mint here, maybe from the tobacco. It's not too boozy; the bourbon cream just softens and rounds everything out.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
wendyb1063 replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I do have decants of both Cathedral and The Magdalene; I will have to dig them out and retest them. It seems like Kit from OLLA might be a good match, but I have not tried that one. I think the benzoin is key. -

I love those burning papers too! I really don't know of any BPALs that are a close match. Perhaps a layering of Like a Girl and Tombstone? or Antique Lace with Cedarwood, Vanilla Absolute and Tolu Balsam? :). I will have to do some experiments. There is one conventional perfume that is supposed to (and IMHO, really does) smell a lot like the papers: Mad et Len's Petit Papiers. In fact, I tried the perfume first and then sought out the papers because I liked the perfume so much. -
Golden Priapus is a lovely vanilla, amber, and pine blend that smells like Christmas to me. Also, Tintagel (which was sadly discontinued) had a great winter holiday vibe to it.

Wow, this is an intense and very interesting perfume, as I had hoped from the notes. Wet, I definitely get the musks and a clean but dark marine vibe. It's like laundry soap/dryer sheets on steroids!!! With a definite hint of danger lurking underneath. As it dries, it becomes more of a sweet aquatic. It's pleasant and not so intense but not quite my thing (I'm not into aquatics, as a rule). We'll see what happens later.
