    Cockaigne

The lab frimped me this and I'm so glad they did because I love it! In the bottle: Whoa, sweet. Sweet and buttery. The scent reminded me of kettlecorn or popcorn balls. Butter and carmalized sugar. Mmm. Wet: It still smells the same as it did in the bottle, actually. Sweet, buttery. Not quite getting the 'cakey' element other people are talking about, but I don't mind that. Dry: Ah, here comes the wine. It's not an especially strong note, it's there just under the surface, tempering the sweetness. The slightest hint of boozyness. This also has an enormous throw, which is making me kind of hungry. I don't feel like this is something I could wear every day. It's way too sweet. But it smells so nice... I'll keep the imp for when I'm feeling decadent.

    Samhain

I was so excited to try this! I have to say, I'm a little disappointed because it doesn't really smell autumny to me, but I think it's growing on me. (This is the 2009 version.) In the bottle: Whoa, I didn't quite know what to think at first. My very first impression was one of... this is what my local hippie shop smells like. Lots and lots of patchouli. I almost wanted to shut it and cry in disappointment that my first bottle smelled like a dirty hippie using patchouli instead of deodorant. Then I gave it a second sniff and other notes started coming out -- spiciness (though not as much spice as I'm fond of) and lots of apple. Wet: I'm glad I'm not the only one who got a medicinal note in this, because I put it on and something in the blend together with the apple smelled like cough syrup to me. Cough syrup, cough syrup, cough syrup. However, my experience with my first order taught me to let it dry and see how it is then (I didn't realize how much I loved my two favorite scents until they were completely dry on me), so I didn't go wash it off immediately like I wanted to. Dry: Here we go! Now I'm getting the fir and the woody scent and much, much less patchouli. Thank goodness. There's also a sweetness to it -- the apple, I'm guessing. I didn't really get the pumpkin anywhere in it. I will have to stop myself from buying any of the Pumpkin Patches to get my pumpkin fix. Overall impression: It took such a long time to get to being nice that I'm still not sure about it. I really want to love it, so I think that it will grow on me. But it isn't the quintessential autumn scent for me.

    Tintagel

I hold the village of Tintagel very near and dear to my heart, since my father and I went on a road trip to Cornwall while we were in England. So many fond memories are associated with the place that I was both excited and nervous to try it. First sniff, I wasn't so sure about it, but I set it aside, and then I loved it, loved it. Of my first set of scents, it's by far my favorite. Warm and spicy with just a touch of greenness to it, a rustic and mystical scent. The only thing that I think would some up Tintagel better is just a hint of sea air.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I admit that I love Harajuku perfumes, too. I have a set of all the solids, and with the exception of Baby, I love them all, and have been wondering if there's a bpal that resembles Love (the website says that it's a sensual floral). They're really just so freaking adorable I can't resist them. I'm also on the look-out for something that resembles Hermes's Eau d'Orange Verte, which is a musky, citrusy, masculine scent that would burn a hole right through my pocket if I ever wanted to actually buy it.

    Shub-Niggurath

In the bottle: Very sweet, lots of vanilla with just a hint of ginger. It reminds me of the scent of a country store during autumn. Wet: Very sweet and vanilla even heavier, with just a hint of citrus. Dry: This one dries really nicely on me. I'm new to BPAL and the first few I tried that I really loved in the bottle smelled a little funny on me -- something just didn't agree with my skin. This one, I didn't like in the bottle, it smelled just a little too sweet for me and it smelled exactly like this store that I go to in fall. It was a nice smell but not one I really wanted to smell like. Once it had dried, however, the sweetness turned much more subtle, and all I get his a dark spiciness with a hint of the sweet and just a tinge of citrus.
